The words "customer service" and "contractors" are rarely used in the same sentence—but that’s not the case with Detroit Build. Kevin, Seabrook, Gina, and the entire team were fantastic throughout the entire process of adding an addition to our home.
Their workmanship was top-notch, they finished on time and on budget, and they communicated clearly every step of the way. They also showed great respect for our living space, keeping the work area clean and professional at all times.
Excellent experience from start to finish. Great job, Detroit Build—A+!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We're thrilled with the recent addition to our house, thanks to the fantastic team at Detroit Build!
From coordinating the project to maintaining clear communication and respecting our wishes, their professionalism and dedication were impressive. The construction crew delivered top-quality work with great attention to detail, making the experience smooth and pleasant.
We're very happy with the results and look forward to enjoying our new space for many years to come!
After working with a realtor and lender who were absolute wrecks, it was incredibly refreshing to find and work with the Detroit Build team. The ENTIRE team works from a professional and ethical foundation which permeates throughout every interaction--which you will quickly realize is a RARITY. They are experts when it comes to 203K loans and went above and beyond to support us in closing the loan. From the craftsmanship and the design expertise, to the thorough communication, Detroit Build can be trusted with your home design projects. You will be pleasantly surprised by the professional and quality services.
Had great service with great results. For every hiccup, there was a fix already determined. Place looks great. Thanks guys!
The folks at Detroit Build are first class all the way! They did a fantastic job on our kitchen/laundry room remodel. We couldn't be happier with the work they did bringing our design by Whiski Kitchen to life. We are already planning our next project.
My experience with this company was very discouraging. A pipe burst in my house causing extensive damage. In September 2023, I contacted Detroit Build (DB) to do the repairs and remodel. At first things were proceeding well and DB was communicating with my insurance company. But DB never bothered giving my insurance company an estimate for the cost and anticipated timing of repairs, because DB and the insurance company use different software for estimates so it had to be calculated manually. December 2023 DB told me it completed the estimate. Last month my insurer told me it never received anything from DB. I had a lot of trouble reaching my DB "project director" to follow up on that. When I finally was able to reach him today, DB told they'd changed their minds about the project because DB believes the cost might be more than the insurance company would be willing to pay. DB never informed me it changed its mind about doing the repair work on my house, but did ask me if I might be interested in paying for the work myself. DB never even gave my homeowner's insurance an opportunity to accept or reject the estimated cost of repairs -- which I believe my insurer would have been willing to pay if DB had ever bothered to provide an estimate.
2/20/2024 UPDATE: Your response is a lie. I have the emails and texts from October, November, and December 2023 to prove it ,as well as the records of communications from my insurance company! Wow. How dare you be so untruthful. Initially, you falsely blamed my insurance company, claiming to me that Liberty Mutual had denied your estimates, but you never even submitted any estimates to my insurance.
So, months after inspecting in 10/2023 and telling me that Detroit Build will do the repairs you did not even bother letting me know that you had changed your minds. George told me in mid-December 2023 that Detroit Build finally was submitting an estimate to Liberty Mutual; he told me the estimate was completed. But, Liberty Mutual repeatedly called your company requesting the estimate. Detroit Build ghosted the adjuster's calls. Detroit Build did not even bother letting me it had changed its mind about doing the repairs until I called on Friday 2/16/2024 for a status update -- which is when George told me he's on vacation now in Traverse City and that Detroit Build decided it will not being doing the work after all. If you did not want the job because you thought the damage was older you could have let me know that. WHATEVER your reasons were for not wanted to do the work, you could have let me and/or the adjuster know last year instead of last week. ...AND yes the pipe burst last year in 2023, which my insurance company VERIFIED. Detroit Build said it was no longer interested in the work because of differences in the estimate software -- that is what you told me, you never said anything about disbelieving me or my insurance company about when the damage occurred or that the damage was too extensive like you are claiming now.
Detroit Build is 5 stars all the way. I have worked with them for almost a decade, whether it's serving my clients or my own personal home, their attention to customer service is not to be outdone. The finished product is even better!! I would refer DB to anyone looking for home improvements!!
I worked with Detroit Build in conjunction with a kitchen design firm. I was very impressed by the craftsmanship of everybody who worked on the project. I was updated frequently, the project was done in a reasonable length of time and turned out beautifully. I highly recommend Detroit Build. I'd actually like to come up with another project so that I can use them again.
We have worked with Detroit Build several times - first on a garage rebuild and most recently on our kitchen remodel. They did a wonderful job and we appreciated the care and communication throughout the process.
Detroit Build was wonderful to work with. We had estimates with many other contractors and are so happy with our selection. From design with Whiski Kitchen to demo, rebuild and completion, communication and work was efficient. We would use them again for other projects and would recommend them without hesitation.
Detroit Build remodeled our kitchen, according to the design by Whiski Kitchen. The crews were respectful and conscientious from demolition to punchlist, as well as administratives support. Made a world of difference for the value and enjoyment of our home. Thanks to all at Detroit Build and Whiski Kitchen!
We have an approximately 800 square foot apartment in Detroit that Detroit Build (+Whiskey Kitchen) completely remodeled. The final result is pretty spectatcular as you will hopefully see if pix get posted. We are really pleased with the quality. Everything - tiling, electrical, plumbing, floor install, paint... were done extremely well. We did more of the design leg work than we had anticipated, but that turned out ok because we got to put our stamp on it.
Our only complaint is that is took sooooooo long! Also, we were a bit perplexed(disappointed) that we were hit with a $5K change order due to the building's strict building codes. This is something we figured DB(WK) would have had some experience with due to the fact that they had worked in other buildings in Detroit. There was nothing unusual in the code requirements (metal conduit for electrical, thicker drywall..) all fire safety stuff.
Anyway, the usual stuff for remodel moaning - took too long, cost too much, not the best communication through the process, yada yada yada. In the end, we were lucky to have found a builder willing to do the job in the coming-out-of-COVID times, many phone calls were not even returned from other prospective builders. And all in all, very friendly staff, very good work, beautiful end result.
Detroit Build did a fantastic job with remodeling the exterior of my house, including re-building my front deck... I'm so happy with everything and highly recommend Seabrook and his crew!
(Before: brown, after: gray)
They did great work - overall time line was as expected/promised. Communication with the contractors/manager was great and really allowed us to plan when they’d be in the house. They were great with providing tile samples/ideas/suggestions to improve upon our ideas. Very satisfied with the work and it’s overall very much as we imagined.
I hired Detroit Build for a kitchen remodel and cabinet installation in my Royal Oak home. Seabrooke and Kristy were excellent at communication through the entire process. The work crews were all on time, professional and respectful from start to finish.
I decided to check out this company due to the reviews on google. I filled out an application for a call back online. I received a call back which was great.
Gina called and was a bit rude. Not even saying “Hello” like most people do when they call a person. I felt like i was in trouble by the way she asked for me on the phone. After i figured out who was calling i was excited as I didn’t expect a call back so soon and just wanted to get a price estimate.
Gina preceded to ask a few questions and then quickly jumped into the pricing of kitchens and bathrooms quoting $12,000 - $45,000. This is not the problem. The problem was i felt as if she was attempting to discourage me from using their company based on what I completed in my call back request. Witch was stating my budget was $5k - $15K.
I have no issue with the cost. It was the lack of customer service and the fact that i felt judged based off a simple questionnaire. Maybe she was having a rough day but that’s no reason to take it out on customers. If other people had a good experience that’s great but I wont be calling back. Good luck with you business. All the best.
I've have worked with Detroit Build for over a decade. They do a fantastic job and I will continue to use them for all of my construction needs. Thank you!
Very good experience! Very responsive to our requests/questions and did a great job making our kitchen and bathroom look fantastic. Thanks!
We are absolutely thrilled with how our new office and library turned out. The Detroit Build team was great to work with from Seabrook always being available and responding to emails, to the carpenters who worked on our bookshelves and transom until it was exactly what I envisioned. Will be calling them again for any future projects we may have. Thank you!
Look, our experience with this company (and Seabrook in particular) was horrible from basically start to finish. From messing up the bathroom tub size and installation to making a mess in our basement (from both a shower leak and just contractor dirt) it was not a good experience.
As much as I had said I wasn’t going to write a review, after only 2 years since our remodel, our bathroom tile and grout are falling apart. As I was mopping the floor today, chunks of my floor grout is coming out and the shower tile grout is also peeling away from the walls. I had them fix it 3 times within their 1 year work guarantee and yet it’s still not right. I’m fact, I’m not having to call a different contractor to fix the bathroom tile since DB couldn’t be bothered to do it right the 1st, 2nd or 3rd time. And after paying what we did for this bathroom, grout should not be failing after year 2 of regular use.
Look, am I happy with my kitchen and most of my bathroom now? Yes. Would I ever recommend this company to anyone? No. Are their designs for kitchens great? Sure. But don’t be like us and get sucked in with the modern design. Use someone else who knows how to get a job done right the first time.
Update November 2022:
Seabrook did come to our house and give us options but never followed through with them. We called Detroit Build several times to get more clarity about how to move forward and those calls were never returned. And as of today, our basement drywall now has wet, soft and moldy spots on it due to the leaking bathroom.
Seabrook said this is normal wear and tear, but this bathroom was “completed” in 2019. Normal wear and tear does not include missing grout, leaking into the basement and loose floor tiles less than 3 years later. Normal wear and tear is a chip in the paint because your dog ran into the door.
Look, if you’re looking for the cheap option, maybe go with Detroit Build. If you’re looking for the good option, go anywhere else. Their contract only covers their work from 1 year of completion. Read the contract and call any local permit office and you will see who this company really is run by.
We worked with Detroit Build for our kitchen renovation and couldn't be happier with the result! They were timely, responsive, and great at their craft. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to go through a renovation.
I would definitely recommend Detroit Build for anyone looking for some help on any renovation projects! They replaced our front porch and it looks beautiful. The only negatives we had with them was the amount of time to complete the project (which we understood going in to our relationship with them, the market is crazy), but we also wished they were a little bit more proactive in reaching out to us with where they were at with the project.
I would still hire Detroit Build for my next project!
Went to the business back in March and set up an appointment for them to come out and give me an estimate for a complete bathroom remodel. They informed me that they are 6 weeks out for an estimate and that they start at $15k for bathroom remodels. The appointment was set for April. When the date come for the estimate someone called from Detroit Build to cancel the appointment because the person who was coming out contracted the coronavirus. They said they would call to reschedule. To this date no one has contacted me. I guess they only have one person who can give an estimate and apparently that person must still have the virus.
We were looking to put an addition on our house and decided to postpone our project until next year.
Prior to postponing, we researched various building companies in the Metro Detroit area (approximately 7-8) throughout the spring and summer. We found that Detroit Build was the best company to work with thus far. We were really impressed that both Victoria and Seabrook knew our architectural plans very well before coming onsite, they listened extremely well to what it was that we wanted, and we appreciated the capacity of timely and prompt communication throughout the estimate process. We were also appreciative that what we spoke about onsite was very well laid out and detailed within the estimate. We did a lot of research too on Google reviews and were impressed that Seabrook's team took the time to address any potential negative reviews. Lastly, the few times my wife called in for assistance to Seabrook's team, she was pleasantly surprised with how helpful everyone was.
Based on Detroit Build's attention to detail, transparency, and client service, I would recommend Detroit Build for any construction project.
I contracted Detroit Build to complete my Kitchen Remodel. If I could give them 10 stars I would. From the first moment I called, I knew this was a company I could trust. They were the most professional, respectful, courteous, knowledgeable and customer focused team. My project started when I wanted and was completed when expected. Dean was an amazing project manager from start to finish. He always gave me a sense of ease in my decisions, would offer suggestions when I struggled with choices and kept me up-to-date on the project. Now let's talk about the contractors.....OMG...DAVE I love you! You felt like part of my family! Although I don't remember all the names of the contractors, I do remember Kevin the Plumber who was great, the guys that disassembled the kitchen, they guys who hauled the trash away, the guys who completed the floors, the painters, the counter installers, the electrician and Seabrook....simply a talented group of professionals. THEY DID EXACTLY WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO! Each one of them completed their crafts perfectly. Gina and Kristy, I didn't forgot about you too, thank you for your part in the process as well! Thank you for transforming my 1970's brown Formica kitchen to a beautiful WHITE AND BRIGHT masterpiece! I have even referred a friend of mine and told her she had to work with Dean! Thanks again Detroit Build!
Had a front deck rebuild a year ago on a rental. Visited the property recently and was disappointed. Several broken spindles and splintering wood. The planning/quoting stage was great though (Thanks George!). But putting up a deck is par for the course.. attention to detail and quality of wood they use was terrible. Also getting them to come sand the splintering was a joke.
This company continues to deliver on my jobs, so I continue to come back to them !!!!!!
Seabrook, Gina, and Victoria have been a class act with great communication, competitive pricing, follow-up, and great quality work.
They install glass block windows for me that look great !!!! Workers showed up on time ready to go. Very professional team and polite. Cleanup was outstanding and they left my house looking like new money.
Thanks for all your help DETROIT BUILD !!!!!!!
We were referred to Detroit Build for a large renovation. We were told that they were busy, as most contractors/builders are nowadays, but that we would be a priority. After over 2 weeks of waiting for a bid, I reached out and we were told that the house was too large of a project, too old, and too far away but that they would try to find a way to help us. It’s been another week and a half with no further communication. We would have loved to work with their team and have them complete our projects. Needless to say, we are disappointed.
Update-/reply
A lot of what you mentioned in your reply is inaccurate. For example, there is a crawl space and we would not be living in the home. Also, we weren’t entirely ”working” with another contractor… we had only received and bid from them and per our inspectors recommendation of your company had put off working with them to wait for your bid. Again, all things put aside this review came down to lack of communication. We would have loved to work with you but your lack of communication was disappointing.
OMGoodness the bathroom glass project is wonderful, thank you! We love how it turned out! The glass delivery guy, and Calvin who installed are fantastic too. Calvin was kind enough to also hang my new mailbox too and wouldn’t accept anything for it either.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you and Detroit Build already; your follow up, attention to detail, timeliness, and the quality of communication and people you work with.
Truly grateful and I look forward to moving forward with the house. Thank you again.
Great experience with Seabrook and Detroit Build! Seabrook is incredibly responsive. The work was well done and was a really good value!
Detroit Build did a fantastic job with our wall removal project. Victoria kept us up to speed during the project, and was on top of scheduling the contractors, etc. The team worked with the township with permits, etc, and kept things moving and on schedule. The demo crew was quick and cleaned up when they were done. The build team was absolutely great. The quality of work was top notch and we are so pleased with the end result. We definitely recommend the team at Detroit Build.
We hired Detroit Build for a straightforward kitchen remodel this summer. Based on our experience, we would recommend them to others, but with caution. Overall, the quality of work was good, and the price was competitive among the other companies/contractors that we were considering. Maybe this is how it is with all contracting companies (especially during Covid), but it took nearly two months to get the project started after our initial meeting. During this time, we were only communicating with the ladies in the front office, who were nice but didn't give us the impression that they a) wanted our business or b) knew what was going on. Eventually we found out that the delay was due to some cabinets being slow to arrive, which wasn't Detroit Build's fault. Once we started communicating with Seabrook directly, things improved. Seabrook was responsive, clear, and knowledgeable, and we were usually able to get enough information from him, including work details and what time workers would arrive etc. All the contracted workers were respectful, though they varied in punctuality and cleanliness. We liked all of them, especially Perry and John (carpenters), who were always on time. One glitch that we felt was not okay was an unexpected confusion about the countertop we'd picked out at least a month before the project started. A few days before it was to be installed, Seabrook asked us whether we had wanted granite or marble, but we had actually chosen quartzite (and it had been priced into our deposit). We couldn't understand why/how this mixup occurred so late in the game. It got sorted out, but it was strange.
Our initial meeting with Detroit Build (where they provided an estimate) was beginning of July, and we signed a contract and paid a deposit end of July. Work started beginning of September and was completed in 3-4 weeks. We are VERY happy with our kitchen, and everything has been functional so far. If you have a tight/inflexible schedule, I might not recommend Detroit Build. I would also caution that allowances in their initial estimates tend to be on the low side (their allowance for the cabinets we ordered was $400, but they ended up costing over $1000.) Besides for these things, we enjoyed the experience and are grateful for Seabrook and his team's hard work!
The good folks of Detroit Build were an absolute pleasure to work with on remodeling our master bath. The makeover transformation was stunning and well worth the time/efforts!
We started our renovation/addition process almost 2 years ago. It started as a potential kitchen remodel, but turned into our dream of an addition: Fully renovated/remodeled kitchen, addition of another bedroom and full bath. Detroit Build made it all feel easy. We have counted our blessings since that day that we chose them as our contractors for this project. They made the process smooth, friendly and were always can-do! Their owner was friendly, responsive and always had an answer. He went the extra mile for us on many occasions. It was clear that he wanted to make sure it was done right and we were happy. The workers/trades that came in were hard workers and had to deal with our family being home for most of the project. They were great about it and very professional around my two young daughters. The work is beautiful. We're more than happy, we're overjoyed! I would highly recommend Detroit Build to anyone and would use them again in a heartbeat. We have our dream home, and it still feels unreal!
Just completed a extensive remodel of our kitchen & baths; I cannot say enough about Detroit Build & Whiski Kitchen! They are terrific and I would recommend them to anyone. Our house is over 100 years old, but they didn't miss a beat - all designs & renovations were completed with respect and in keeping with the characteristics of the home. The office staff is super responsive and very professional (and reallyl nice!), and the field staff (employees and sub-contractors alike) were awesome - excellent at their work, super clean and professional. Never once did I have a concern for anyone in our home. Work began right after Covid restrictions were lifted, and surprisingly, they were able to keep pretty close to the original time line, despite being so busy. I feel very fortunate to have found them, and if we ever undertake any future work, they will be our first call. Thank you again!
We had a complete kitchen remodel completed by Detroit Build and Whiski Kitchen. It was an excellent experience, all of the contractors were very good to work with and responsive. We were initially given an estimate of 9-12 weeks to complete the project and the final timeframe was 10 weeks, which was great, and particularly impressive due to COVID restrictions. Dave was our main contractor and he was great to work with, we were very happy with him! Gina at the front desk was always very quick to answer our questions and get back to us in a very timely manner. Sometimes things happened a day or two after we were told they would, but overall we were very pleased with Detroit Build and we would recommend them. We love our new kitchen!
Detroit Build completed a master suite and walk-in pantry addition at my home in Royal Oak. They did great quality work and did an excellent job navigating the challenges that came along with beginning a project the month before the pandemic shut everything down. Their prices were competitive and well worth it for the quality of the work. Seabrook kept me updated on the status of my project and helped me figure out the best solution when anything did not go according to plan. Gina and Kristy in the office were both so pleasant to work with and helped make my experience feel more personalized. I would highly recommend using Detroit Build and plan to use them again for future projects.
Detroit Build helped renovate my first home. There were quite a few jobs which had to be done such as plumbing, electrical, drywall, demolition, concrete and more. Without Seabrook, Gina, Kristy, and George's help coordinating the multiple teams of contractors and answering my many questions, it would have been a nightmare! Would definitely recommend Detroit Build in the future.
We had a huge remodel that included a new kitchen, shower, floors, doors, walls and paint. Unfortunately we had an huge amount of unseen structural repairs but had enough contingent money to cover it, even though I’m fairly certain the repairs cost more than we had, we only paid for a few small things we added after the fact. All the contractors who worked on our house were amazing. From the repairs and demo through the final details each person who came into our house were respectful, helpful and did amazing work.
I don’t see us needing any repairs/remodels soon, but if we needed help we would reach out to Detroit Build immediately. We suggest them to all our friends and family. Highly recommended.
Seabrook at Detroit Build did a full home renovation on my house in the Spring of 2012. At the time, we could not have been happier with the experience and the end results. Whenever we had a question on a paint color or cabinet over the years, he has continued to give us amazing customer service. I cannot recommend their services more! You can’t go wrong with Detroit Build!
A great experience replacing my porch pillars and two door walls. Tom and Rob were the best! They showed up on time, communicated well, as to what I needed to know and were very competent. Gina was always on top of things and everything was fairly priced. It certainly was stress-free! I would recommend Detroit Build and Seabrook to anyone looking for quality and timely work!
They were quick and responsive to inspect the home we were looking to buy and fix up. However, thanks to their experience in home renovations along with their caring honesty, Detroit Build saved my family from a bad purchase. So grateful for their wisdom and integrity, which is often hard to find. I will definitely consider having them contracted for a future project.
I am so pleased with my bathroom renovation from Detroit Build. The process went smoothly with plenty of support from the office gals, the designer, and the entire professional team. Throughout the project, the crew assured me they wanted me to be happy in the end. And I am! Thanks for an amazing job and positive experience. I highly recommend Detroit Build.
We were in a big jam with a house we just bought. After a bunch of rennovations we found a huge problem: the extension above the garage was not structurally sound (after we removed drywall and more we found the problem). We were moving in a few weeks and needed this fixed asap.
Detroit Build was the only firm that responded quickly and was able to do the work within a week. The work was solid and the price was reasonable.
I will definitely use Detroit Build on another project soon.
I am soo pleased with the way my kitchen turned out! Perry and all the contractors did a great job and tried to keep the mess down as much as they possibly could, schedule everything in a timely manner, and if something was wrong—they fixed it!! Everyone at the office was helpful and accommodating! Would definitely recommend and use again. Thank you all!!
I would dread coming home each day knowing that there was either an excuse or something done wrong by George and Seabrook. Their ability perfectly leave my house in worse condition and then take the money and run seems so perfectly orchestrated that it seems like calculated incompetence. I can't help but to wonder if their business model is to maximize profits by causing mishaps or if it was something about us. I know Seabrook went to college in Massachusetts and people up there aren't known for their affinity for couples like ours. It's disheartening that my experience with them was so bad that it makes me wonder if it was personal and rooted in prejudice.
Edit based on owner response:
I have never seen adults or a business flat out lie incessently rather than simply own a mistake.
Please tell me which other name I have posted under or other social media platform I left a review under. You can't, because I haven't. I would assume fake accounts would only have one overall review. The majority of your positive reviews are left by accounts where their only review was for DetroitBuild.
The fact that you would reach out to google to remove my true and valid post brings into question how many valid negative reviews you have had removed. So not only are you flat out lying, you're brazenly trying to undermine my first amendment rights. So because Seabrook's father worked at a HBCU, he can feel more than comfortable trying to silence an interracial couple.
The purpose of this forum is to share our experiences as real customers; good, bad, and ugly. So that consumers can discern for themselves and make the most informed decision possible based on facts.
What is hurtful is that the entire way you have handled this made me think prejudice was a factor. What is even more hurtful is that your justification is, 'well, my dad taught black kids (so I can't be racist)'. So, we're both hurt by your actions.
But you're crying all the way to the bank, right...
I keep coming back to Detroit Build for all their services. Because they helped me with home redesign, they're very familiar with the nuances. So when I have a problem - like a broken sewer pipe - they're able to make the best recommendation for my property! Thank you to the whole team.
Detroit Build replaced my roof on an addition. The job was great their clean up was awesome. Didn’t they were when the job was done.
Seabrook and co. turned our outdated dingy kitchen into a beautifully renovated space. Quality work and project was completed on time. A real pleasure to work with, thanks again!!!
Seabrook and The Detroit build team was extremely responsive with a water issue I had in my home. I reached out once and their contractor was out to look at my problem. I wasn’t home and they came back, walked me through to figure out our next step to solve my issue. I really appreciate how kind and professional each contractor was. Thank you for helping to solve my issues !
Did a great job of our wood floors and matched it amazingly well to the existing color!! Very little mess around the edges too - I was amazed by that. I could touch it up with a Q-tip!! Would use again and recommend highly!
Very unprofessional. When the owner have to step in and get his workers to do their job something is wrong. The foreman that was assigned to our project was let go in the middle of construction. It took them almost 2mths to start back up. The office person that was in charge didn't respond to any calls or emails. From the beginning I was very specific with the items that I wanted and they still messed it up. I didn't receive any apologies or anything. They acted like they were paying me to do the job. I own a business and understand things happen but as a business you should take responsibility for your SCREW ups.
Detroit Build came in to a difficult situation and didn't blink an eye. The previous builder botched my job and they were able pick up and finish everything. My job was a complete renovation of a vacant home in Detroit. It's VERY difficult to find any contractor that will work in Detroit, let alone, finish a job someone else started. I saw everybody: framers, plumbers, drywall, electrician, tile, finish carpentry, kitchen cabinets/countertops, etc. and they all did excellent work. The tradesmen all were great with offering solutions to problems that arise in any renovation. Detroit Build are also pros at working with bank loans. Do yourself a favor and hire Detroit Build from the start. I wish I would have.
The Detroit Build Team were professional, efficient and timely. We were looking to install an electronic garage door (with Paul Kramer at Kramer Garage Doors) on our existing farm-door style, 2-car detached garage. However, the front of the garage required reframing for a garage door to be installed. Paul suggested Detroit Build (located a few blocks from our house) to reframe the garage. Detroit Build came out to look at the garage, provided a quote/contract same day and within 1.5 weeks completed the framing. We will definitely recommend their services to family and friends.
We had an overall great experience working with Seabrook and his team at Detroit Build. They worked with us through several changes and obstacles along the way and were very responsive throughout the project. I would definitely use them in the future for our next project!
Had some squeaky floors taken care of. They were honest and upfront about expectations from the beginning.
The crew were polite, punctual, answered questions in detail and cleaned up afterwards.
Gina in the office was very accommodating towards my schedule too.
I'd be happy to use these guys for further projects in the future.
Working with Detroit Build was great. They were able to come out and get the job done quickly. All the contractors they sent were professional and friendly. We look forward to working with them in the near future on other planned home renovations.
I purchased a home that required a top to bottom cosmetic overhaul. The deal was completed with conventional renovation financing. It was extra tedious and ultimately resulted in the scope of my project changing a number of times before closing. The team at Detroit Build was committed to my purchase/project from the very beginning and had countless hours into design, consulting and paperwork before it was ever a done deal with keys in my hand.
I knew the house had potential but there was also a budget that would limit how much I could accomplish with the financial resources available to me. The team at Detroit Build could not have been more wonderful to work with. Their ideas for accomplishing my desired look and feel were invaluable. It was as if they were mind readers with my vision and executed to perfection.
I wanted a kitchen that sparked my pretend cooking show/bakery dreams. From the design that included a professional range and pot filler faucet to the quartz counters that go on and on.... check. I wanted a master bedroom suite that felt boutique/loft/hotel retreat. From my industrial black window pane double shower doors, to my quartz shower bench, to my mirrored marble arabesque tile niches, to my freestanding soaking tub, to my rebuilt master closets..... check. I wanted my main bath to function well for grown kids and feature updated vintage elements. The cement tile accent wall, old hose spigots turned towel holders and transom windows that stream natural light accomplish exactly what I wanted.... check. Additionally my first floor layout was redesigned for how my family lives and finished with new flooring, lighting, doors and trims.
There were unforeseen circumstances that did develop on occasion during the project that were handled quickly and thoroughly. I can say that every person I encountered, from office staff to designers to tradesmen, were sincerely patient, kind, respectful and understanding through the complete process. Their attention to the many, many details while educating and never considering cutting corners was so reassuring. I am reminded everyday of how wonderfully rewarding the experience was when I look around my transformed house and feel so very much at home. They are all masterful experts with what they do!
Very fast; good quality work; very knowledgeable; very accommodating of a couple of changes; wish i could have them do all my work; they are a bit pricey
Detroit Build has done excellent work for us across two separate homes, involving basement finishing, electrical, custom cabinetry, and plumbing. Estimates are accurate, communication is clear, and schedules do not slide. Highly recommended!
I truly loved working with Detroit Build. I bought my house with a 203K loan, and needed a contractor who is knowledgeable about the process of the loan. From the first day that I met Seabrook he was extremely helpful and knew all of the details about the specific loan, which is hard to come by in this area. I had a full house remodel done so I dealt with many different workers and staff members at Detroit Build. Each person I met along the way was very courteous, hard-working, and professional. Everybody I met went above and beyond my expectations. They finished the work in a timely manner and it was done way earlier than I expected. The work they did to my house was flawless, top to bottom. If I ever had any questions (which I always had a ton) Seabrook was very prompt in answering all of them. Seabrook and his team were the best people I have ever chosen to work with. I’m reminded every day how great they are when I look at my beautiful house. The transformation was incredible. I’m so thankful I chose them & will definitely be recommending them to everyone!
So pleased with Detroit Build! My neighbor recommended them and as soon as I called to set up an appointment I was really impressed. They set up the plans for our rennovation quickly and gave me dates of starting work and completing work. They finished a week earlier than planned! And each task that was done was serviced by different experts. All the work was done quickly and beautifully. Thank you!
I would recommend Detroit Build to anyone that’s looking for a company that’s professional, punctual, and that’s very knowledgeable in their craft. The owner was available for any questions that we had, and that means a lot when you have the most expensive investment in someone else’s hands. Thanks Detroit build and your staff for the awesome work that you’ve done!
Owner, Seabrook Satterlund, step into our 203K mess with another contractor and provided us with a professional product. Major work was needed both exterior and interior. The finished product gave us a beautiful new kitchen, 2 new furnaces, which included running duct work were none existed, bringing plumbing and electrical up to code; major exterior repairs such as rebuilt a brick back porch, stabilized and repaired the front porch, chimney repair, and garage repair. Detroit Build are masters in housing construction and followed the 203K loan requirements perfectly without incident from the beginning with a bid within our budget, to the end with the final payment. They provided all necessary documentation to our consultant and mortgagor to ensure no hiccups in the final stretch. Thank you Seabrook and your Detroit Build Team for a great job!
Long, rave review!! If you’re thinking of going with another contractor, don’t! Choose Detroit Build! You will not be disappointed!!Seabrook Satterland is a wealth of knowledge, and each team he puts together is no different. The office staff is extremely courteous and helpful; Jamie Sachs is a gem. My husband and I hired Detroit Build to do extensive work in our 1938 home; specifically plumbing, electrical, drywall/plaster repairs, and tiling, as we were renovating a kitchen and two bathrooms among other things. Detroit Build came in after we’d had a terrible experience with a contractor that we had to fire! But, Detroit Build did not let us down. In fact, THEY SAVED THE DAY! They did a wonderful job on our home, offering us all the experience they have in working on older homes like ours. Simply put, they are professional, organized, and honest. Detroit Build is staffed with people you can easily consult with and rely upon. Each trade appeared to our home on time and on the days that they’d promised to be there. I never had to wonder when the job would be done; Seabrook always kept us well informed of what was being completed in relation to our desired timeline. If you’re looking for a team of polished professionals that you can trust, with reasonable prices, experience working with or without a renovation loan, and with as much passion for doing the work as you have for your home, call Detroit Build. We certainly will for our additional projects in the near future!
The team did a great job! Easy to communicate with and the guys that installed went above and beyond with out over charging. Also didn't leave a huge mess when they were done. kitchen was only out of use for less than a week and the finish project is well worth it. Thanks!
Detroit Build has completed two projects at my Royal Oak home. They helped with an indoor and outdoor project- they can do it all! Seabrook and the team at Detroit Build have been fantastic to work with. They were quick to respond to my request for work and completed both jobs in a timely manner. Everything looks great. I've used other companies in the past that were not as good and I'm happy to have found Detroit Build. I would highly recommend them.
I am a freelance interior designer that works with Detroit Build. It is so important to work with a contractor that understands the intricacies of design and they do such an awesome job of turning all of my design elements into a reality. Detroit Build knows that attention to detail is key when it comes to the execution of a design.
We are very happy with the overall experience with Detroit Build. In preparation for our second child we knew we needed more space. They took our half finished basement, removed a dividing wall, created a new living space, dedicated storage room, and a beautiful full bath / laundry room with stackable washer and dryer. Seabrook and his team were always polite, responsive, and flexible to changes as the project went on. We will recommend to family and friends.
Seabrook is the best contractor I have been in contact with. He is honest and straight to the point. He gave us great advices and was always here to answer all my questions. If you need somebody hands on to get your project done correctly call Detroit Build.
I had Detroit builds refurbish the exterior of my home, and they were absolutely top notch. Communicated regularly about work days (rain days, etc), were polite and respectful, and when they were done the only way you knew they were there was by how beautiful the house looked.(not a single piece of trash left behind!). When I start the inside you can bet I will call again.
I was need of services to finish purchasing a home and at the last minute , I called Detroit Build in Royal Oak, they were able to assist me in a very timely fashion. Thanks again...
