When a company really knocks it out of the park, I feel compelled to share the experience so others can also receive excellent service. A new roof is something you probably only do a couple of times, and it's very costly, so it is important to find someone you can trust to guide you through the journey and advocate for your best interest. We were fortunate a neighbor recommended the Columbus Roofing Company - and that CRC sent Nick Saxton to attend to our needs.
I had several companies inspect our roof for storm/hail damage and for general age-based wear. From the beginning Nick separated himself and CRC from the pack. Everyone got on our roof and provided their thoughts and recommendations. But Nick was by far the most thorough, providing a written report with pictures where he clearly marked in chalk all areas of the roof with hail damage along with recommendations for replacement. Nick provided very helpful and detailed instructions of next steps for navigating the claims process, offering to be there every step of the way. An inspection was scheduled but canceled by the adjuster due to weather, but Nick was still here ready to go. He again came out and walked through the rescheduled inspection with the adjuster, and shared his observations - and concerns - with me regarding some irregularities in the adjuster’s actions and in his report. When the insurance company denied my claim - saying it was due to age and not to weather, Nick went through their report with me point by point, calling out flaws in their logic and helping me understand the details so I could craft a response for an appeal. Based on this the insurance company offered to send out an “objective” 3rd party engineer to settle the issue, and again Nick insisted on being there for yet another walkthrough to make sure his concerns were understood. Unfortunately, that inspector also canceled and rescheduled for January, making it too late for our roof to be replaced this year. We decided to pursue the project anyway to get the roof done before greater damage might occur and deal with the insurance company later (boo Liberty Mutual, who I have been with over 35 years! ).
Knowing we were concerned about leaving the old roof until spring, Nick researched and suggested a roofing solution from Malarky which was engineered to be installed in cooler weather, and which offered much better ratings against future storm and hail damage. There were special installation steps for this product and Nick ensured us he would work to get their most experienced crew assigned to the job. He also came out the morning of installation to make sure they were aware of and following the process. The crew worked very diligently all day, and due to shortened daylight hours, even dawned lighted helmets and used extra lighting to ensure they could get the roof covered in one day. They came out the next day to finish the job cleanup. The roof looks great (a very good match to our colors) and to be honest, after cleanup, I found less debris in our yard from our own job than I found when some of our neighbors had their roofs replaced. Nick came back for a final walkthrough, answered all my questions, and offered to gladly return anytime to address any concerns or follow up requests I may have in the future.
There are many choices for roofing companies and since it is something most people do so seldom, it’s hard to know how to go about finding a good one. I’ve always found actual experience is the best gauge. My neighbor shared his experience with me, so I wanted to share mine here. I feel Nick Saxton was truly honest and looking to make sure we were treated right, ensuring we received the right solution for our situation, and that the crew from CRC was skilled and dedicated to doing the job right the first time. Additionally, Nick went above and beyond in his attempt to assist us with our insurance claim.
I hope this will give you some useful info if you decide to get a new roof, and that you’ll at least include CRC in your selection process. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
