I can't express how deeply I regret using Coastal Contracting and spending over $150K with them to dormer my house. Not only did the process take approx seven months, but almost every aspect other than the initial sales process (funny how that works) was extremely frustrating. After it's all been said and done, I was left with terrible floors that aren't level throughout and make noise while walking on them, a bad paint job, cracked and damaged tile, with some tile not even grouted fully, and a design that I feel had no care for the people actually living in the house.
The amount of space that I have in a Google review is far less than I need to tell you all the things that went wrong with this project. I also don't expect you to read this entire review so let me give you my opinion up front. It is my strong opinion that you should NOT use Coastal for your project. To me, coastal did not care about the livability of my house and at times seemed to have a complete lack of quality control (My second PM admitted that he didn't inspect the job). If you are someone who has ANY attention to detail, I urge you to look elsewhere. If you do plan to go with Coastal make sure you brush up on every single trade so you can tell them about issues because I would not expect them to notice.
Coastal left me with floors that are not level throughout and a nice (sarcasm) step to get into my bathroom. When demo happened, I (THE CUSTOMER) asked to pay extra for a new sub floor so that I could be sure the floors would be level/flat (even though coastal told me that wouldn't be necessary). Well guess what, my subfloors aren't flat and coastal won't fix it. I think my second PM felt bad for not inspecting and tried to baindaid but the end product is still far below what you would expect for the money. Even after their "punchlist" I still have cracked tile (they won't fix them), grout missing, drywall mud just in the grout lines of some tile, paint on my tile, paint missing from spots of the wall, and just an overall disappointing finishing job. How is that you can spend 150K and have flooring that moves underneath your feet and separates as you walk on it? Should I have spent 300K Would that have been enough?
The hvac design sucks and placement was not properly explained to me and now I have a loud dehumidifier pump going off throughout the night. Thanks guys.
They left some of my stuff out in the rain and threw it away (never paid me for it), they also didn't credit me for items we didn't use but I paid for, and even tried to blame me/my supplier for things missing that they left out in the rain then put into a closet (soaking wet).
Did you know "entire" upstairs doesn't mean "entire" to Coastal it doesn't especially when it comes to floors.
Ethernet - Coastal did not use a sub who actually runs Ethernet properly. My PM admitted to me he knows basically nothing about Ethernet. They used their electricians who proceeded to run the cables in possibly the worst way possible. No conduit, no straight drops, tuns of bends and then entombed in foam. Thanks guys. (They also refused to test NEAT!)
Spray Foam - MY PM seemed to have zero experience with spray foam and in my opinion it put my health and my cat's life in danger. He didn't tell me that I needed to get out for the spray foam and then was audibly upset when i told him I couldn't leave my house for the day completely unplanned.
Trash left throughout my property during the project.
Building materials left in the rain, or on my patio, even in front of my back door! My flat roof is now needing to be replaced from all the wear and tear of seven months of traffic on it. Coastal never once suggested putting something down to protect it (thoughtful!)
I had my PM switched on my project, "It wasn't working out" was the only info I got the Coastal. (thanks?)
I truly think I could have managed this thing better myself. There are so many more things I want to say but I don't have room in this review to mention.
This review is entirely my opinion and based on my experiences.

We had our roof replaced and did a renovation upstairs in our cape cod style house to reconfigure the floor plan to allow for a bathroom and nursery as well as adding closets to our primary bedroom. The roof replacement went quickly and cost less than I expected. The renovation of course took longer. We had some ups and downs trying to address unique challenges caused by slanted walls in a Cape Cod house, but Cameron, Christian, and Dan worked with me to find solutions. They listened to my ideas about what I wanted for the project and helped give feedback on what was possible and helped make suggestions for how to solve the challenges in my space. It was also helpful to have their guidance on how to address some work that had been badly or improperly done by the previous owner. When I found out I needed to deliver my baby three weeks early, Christian and all the sub contractors also worked extra hard to get the project finished so my baby would have a safe space to come home to. She is now home with her own bedroom, a safe roof, and her parents have a much needed updated bathroom.

Our experience with this company was extremely frustrating and unprofessional. Communication throughout the entire process was poor. My husband tried contacting Brandon, the estimator, multiple times via phone and messages, but he never responded or called back.
At one point, we called the main business line. The woman who answered told me the estimator was “currently on the phone.” That was especially interesting, considering he had yet to return any of our calls or messages — clearly made to that very same phone.
To make matters worse, they required us to sign a commitment to use their services before even providing an estimate. That is completely unreasonable. No one should be expected to agree to work with a company without first knowing the cost — it’s like asking someone to commit to a mechanic without knowing how much the repair will be. It just doesn't make sense.
Between the lack of basic communication and the unfair policies, we can not recommend this service.

The average roof replacement cost for a residential home typically ranges from $7,000 to $15,000, depending on factors such as roof size, chosen materials, roof pitch, and labor rates in your area. Premium materials or complex designs may increase the price.
The cost to replace the roof of a commercial building typically ranges from $5 to $12 per square foot, depending on several factors such as roof size, material, labor rates, building type, and local code requirements.
Several factors influence roof repair cost, including the extent of the damage, roof accessibility, material type, labor costs, and whether it’s a general repair or an emergency fix. Minor repairs can start around $150–$400, while major repairs may exceed $1,500.
Roof leak repair cost generally ranges from $300 to $800, depending on the size and location of the leak, the materials required, and labor intensity. Complex leaks involving structural repairs or interior damage will cost more.
Flat roof repair cost for commercial properties usually ranges from $500 to $3,000, depending on the roofing material (TPO, EPDM, PVC), the extent of the damage, and roof accessibility.
Mobile home roof replacement cost typically ranges from $3,000 to $8,000, making it generally more affordable than traditional home roof replacements, due to smaller size and simpler structure.
It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.
The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.
To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.
Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.
When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.
Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
