Chuckanut Builders

We engaged Chuckanut Builders to do a remodel of part of our home involving converting a sitting room into a bedroom and expanding two bathrooms. It was a big "little project" in that all the trades except for the roof were required. We were able to remain in our home during the entire construction project thanks in large part to the willingness and ability of Chuckanut Builders team to cordon off the construction area and confine the inevitable dust and debris. During the entire project the team was most attentive to our needs. The weekly status meetings with the project manager and site lead were most helpful in tracking progress and addressing any issues that had arisen. The fixed bid format and budget tracking application enabled us to control costs very well and Chuckanut Builders was most helpful in providing options when plans needed to be changed. They were able to save and reuse existing hardwood flooring, as well as preserve existing shower wall tile when the other side of the wall was demo'd. This saved quite a bit of money. Throughout the project the team did quality work with great attention to detail. We are very happy with remodeling project and highly recommend Chuckanut Builders.

Chuckanut Builders built a garage for us and it’s pretty much the jewel of our alley in Fairhaven. it’s hard to call it a garage but it is and it functions better than we expected . Working with them was a breeze. Over the year we got to know many of CBS and their own skill sets. They are honest, intuitive and skilled. We also came in on budget which is important. We have booked them for our next project which will be bigger and more complicated because we trust them to get it right.

We had a very positive experience working with Chuckanut Builders. They built a backyard office for us and were amazing through the whole process, from recommending someone to turn our vision into actual plans to doing the last paint touchups. They are very responsive and clear in their communication and one can sense that they care and take pride in what they do. I appreciated how transparent and straightforward they were about budgeting and about what was possible and not possible when it came to working within the budget we had planned. Our project happened during the height of the pandemic and supply/chain issues impacted progress. They kept us updated with new timelines as issues arose, explained what the issues were, and did as much work as possible to continue to make progress given those impacts. Overall, we could not be happier. I would absolutely hire them again. The quality of the work and attention to detail was superb and the interactions were always a pleasure. We love our space.

We did a major renovation of an almost 100 year-old home with Chuckanut Builders while we were living in the home and we can honestly say it was PAINLESS!!! Not only are they very talented craftsmen but also unbelievably neat and tidy and extraordinarily professional. We felt very well-informed every step of the way and the project totally stayed on budget. Oddly enough we actually missed them a little bit the first few days after the renovation was complete!

We loved working with Chuckanut on our cafe/restaurant build out in downtown Bellingham (Camber). Their entire team is talented, organized, hard-working, and extremely friendly. It was a complicated process and their support and skill was key to how beautiful the space now looks. By troubleshooting and taking many last minute changes in stride, they helped us achieve all of our goals. On top of all of that, they are eco-conscious and efficient. I will not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a great partner for commercial projects.

Building a brand new house on a tricky lot, Chuckanut did a terrific job and we could not be more pleased with the result. It's beautiful, incredibly energy efficient and they were a joy to work with.

They were realistic (and pretty accurate) about dates/timelines, great about offering suggestions and ideas, and excellent at communicating issues in a timely and effective manner while also offering potential solutions. Chuckanut Builders did a bang up job on our energy audit and energy upgrades. Ian and Forest and Howard are real professionals and took care to not miss any details on the job. I thought that I was pretty expert in energy issues, but not like these guys. They are excellent.

A couple of years ago I was wanting to add a bedroom onto my small 1920s house, and a friend recommended Chuckanut Builders as a company that did quality work on small as well as large construction projects. After talking with Ian Rae about my ideas, I decided to go for it. Due to the hidden problems and eccentricities of the house, however, my small project quickly turned into a larger and more complicated one. This was my first home renovation, and I so appreciated the intelligence, patience, and sense of humor with which Forest, Ian, and the rest of the crew explained the steps of the process to me. Given that I was on a limited budget, I was also grateful for their willingness to explore options in order to keep costs manageable. And finally, with all the complications, I was really impressed that they miraculously managed to finish the project within the expected time frame. I've lived in my renovated house for two years now, and I've been so please with the results. The house is both safer and more enjoyable as a result of all the hard work that went into it. I recommend Chuckanut Builders to friends who are considering renovations and wouldn't hesitate to use them again. I feel fortunate to have had the experience of working with them.

Chuckanut Builders has done several projects in two of my homes. Their work is excellent. It is organized, careful, patient, efficient, fast, and very skilled. Their projects for me have included knocking out walls, building skylights, remodeling bathrooms, remodeling kitchens, adding support beams, and insulating. Recommended!

We've had Chuckanut Builders work on several remodeling projects in our home. We appreciated so many different aspects of working with them: creative ideas during the planning stages, thoughtful and accurate estimates, working with us to stay within our budget and still get what we wanted, excellent project management, staying on track even during the worst of winter storms and ferry outages preventing material deliveries. They showed up, worked hard, did excellent work, finished when they said they would, and we're delighted with the end results! Some of the projects: Energy Challenge work on insulation, fans, heaters, crawl space and attic clean up and sealing, rewiring, building a pantry, remodeling a bathroom, replacing our exterior siding and replacing, redesigning our exterior trim. These men and their subcontractors are easy to work with and will end up being like part of the family, by the time they are finished!
