Many thanks to Mike @ Chimney Rescue for getting up on our crazy A-frame with something like a 50 ft peak & virtually no walkable angles, to fix our leaking chimney! Through the frustration of finding available lift equipment, to manuvering that equipment into place on our difficult terrain, you stuck with it and got the job done! We also appreciate the before/after pictures provided, because truthfully there's no way we'll get up there to see any of it! Thank you again.

We called after discovering some water coming in through the chimneys. Mike came out and inspected everything thoroughly before making repair recommendations. Pricing was reasonable and we opted to get the work done and both days he worked hard to get our chimneys repaired and wood insert functional. I appreciated the knowledge, transparency, and service. Like did a great job doing a chimney inspection on my 90 y/o home. Unfortunately there was damage beyond "repair" he provided options to continue utilizing it, explained it in detail and ordered the parts. Was back about 2.5 weeks later, as scheduled and completed the job. I couldn't be more impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. The cherry on top for me, was when he didn't bill me labor, rather asked that I donate it to the local fire department. Small business giving back to the community. To say that Donna and Mike were incredible still feels like an understatement. From start to finish, they were polite, professional, and kind—qualities that are often hard to come by in the world of home maintenance and repairs. Despite the challenging weather conditions, they responded promptly to inspect and address the needs of our 1928 chimney.

Mike was not only thorough with the cleaning and inspection, but he also took the time to teach me a few helpful tips about our fireplace that I had no idea about. With the owner's permission, we contacted him to survey a chimney in our fire department's jurisdiction.
Mike came out to the property the next day in an ice and snowstorm to do this job. He said he would be there at 10am and he was there at 10am. That says a lot for his character and professionalism.

Had smoking issues with our wood stove. Fortunately we got an appointment for the next day. Mike showed up early and accurately diagnosed our problem. He had all the necessary parts to repair it. It was a complex issue to diagnose and repair. He did both. The charges were fair for the services provided. We will use and recommend Chimney Rescue in the future

100% satisfied. Chimney Rescue scheduled me the same week of my initial call. Being in Law enforcement, I am very picky about who works on my house. I highly recommend this company to all my friends and co-workers. Call them, you won't be disappointed.

Charged $350 to clean each chimney for $700 total. Never did upper inspection stating that camera had been left at prior appointment. Noted thimble on furnace exhaust needed repair. Charged $400 to repair, which was paid upfront. Stated repair and upper inspections would be completed at next appointment and to call office. Appointment was set. Secretary called the night before to cancel. New appointment was set, which was a no-call and no-show. Another company ended up doing needed repairs. I'm out of at least $600. Do not pay these people up front. In fact, do not use them for chimney work, period. They are thieves.

Absolutely terrible service, and unprofessional, expensive, dishonest and unreliable.

I called them to get help on a remodel house my husband and I started working on early spring of this year. At first they were very responsive. We set an appointment for them to come and work on two chimneys, to prepare them for new gas logs. This involved both adding a liner in our largest chimney,
Adding flashing, and installing a chimney cap…and then also preparing the larger fireplace on the inside of the house for gas logs.

We live in Wilmington NC, so scheduling a time to meet them (Mike, I believe is the owner’s name) needed to work around when we would be in Elk Creek…so we worked with them to do that.and set a meeting time to have them come by and get a scope of the work involved to get a quote.
However, just before our scheduled time on the day we were to be there, they called me to say they couldn’t make it due to trouble with their truck. My husband and I arranged our schedule that day around this meeting and rushed to Elk Creek specifically to meet with them at the remodel house.
But, things happen so we rescheduled for the next time we would be in town.
So, the day they said they would come the owner/tech was late. But they finally made it, assessed the scope of the work…gave me a price of $1400 to do the repairs on the two chimneys and charged me a 50% deposit.
Mike at Chimney Rescue scheduled a time to come back and do the work…when the day came I got a call just before our meeting. they said they had to reschedule…again.
So, we did, and then when it came the time they didn’t show…I called and called…finally got a response from the owners girlfriend…she said they were running behind and had bad cell issues.
At this point I was running out of patience and time because I had to get back to Wilmington. Mike finally arrived that day, and said he would be there all afternoon and evening ti finish the work.
However…he didn’t. I had to leave at one point to run an errand, came back and he was gone! He hadn’t finished…and he left his ladder on the roof. I figured he was coming back at some point…but he didn’t.
I texted and called. No response. He didn’t call me or leave any word on what happened.
After several attempts to reach him, I finally got a response from his girlfriend that he was not able to finish that day because he didn’t have what he needed to finish. This is after he had had several days, even weeks, to prepare for our job - that he had scoped out and received a $700 deposit on prior to doing any work!
What really bothers me is that He never called me back to explain himself. Didn’t give me any money back from my deposit. I know he could not have done more than a few hours of work on our project and he used minimal materials. Literally, some concrete, a ceramic chimney liner, some sealant and a metal chimney cap he likely got at Lowe’s for $60. I ended up having to purchase another one due to the storm Helene.

I felt robbed by Chimney Rescue, honestly…and am so upset by the whole frustrating experience.

Later, after hiring a professional roofer and some carpenters to help with the remodel project, I learned from them that Chimney Rescue actually damaged our roof by using a ladder on our roof area at the chimney during the heat of the day. They had tore a place in the roof from the ladder, and we realized it when we were trying to figure out where water was getting in the house each time it rained. We hadn’t had any leak issues up to this point.

I don’t like doing reviews like this at all…and have not said anything up to this point…for that reason…but I was recently told by another local service company to contact Chimney Rescue for some work we need done…and I told them my experience. It made me realize they are recommending these folks and I just had to put this here as well.

I would not recommend this company to anyone, ever. They are expensive, unprofessional, unreliable, and dishonest. We don’t want to see anyone else experience what we have.

I found Chimney Rescue to be very professional and knowledgeable. They do not try to upsell and educate you about how to best care for your type of chimney. I highly recommend!

Mike did a great job in restoring the top of my Chimney. Did a liner repair, crown repair and installed chimney caps. Got the job done using the best materials. Great to work with. I would highly recommend him.

We couldn’t have asked for better service. Mike came out and thoroughly checked out our chimney and it’s set up. He explained everything and got it set back up for wood burning. He made us feel safe and confident in his work. We are very pleased with his company and the prices.
After the review and setting up an appointment for future work, the day of the appointment no one showed or called. I called in the afternoon to inquire about no one showing. Was told by a female he got behind and could possibly be out the next week. I explained I had a leak and it was supposed to rain later that week. She said she’d see if he could work it in the next day. Have never heard back from anyone. I retract my 5 star rating because of that.

I received a very prompt appointment with an estimate for repair to my chimney. Had to reschedule my first appointment and called after not receiving a promised confirmation. Was told my appointment was at noon but no one showed. No one was available after my morning call to answer the phone, and the greeting said to leave a message. The voice mailbox was not set up so there was no way to leave a message. Am disappointed with the lack of service. Sadly, this is 'par for the course' in SWVA.

I would highly recommend Chimney Rescue they are very responsive with appointments very reasonable with pricing. Mike got right to work upon his arrival, very knowledgeable and polite. Explained everything. Pleased with the service.

Chimney Rescue came out and did a thorough cleaning of my wood stove and chimney. They did a fantastic job, checked my configuration out, made recommendations, and answered all my questions. I highly recommend their services.

Mike arrived on time and efficiently cleaned the woodstove and chimney chimney in the mountain house we just purchased as well as filled out a detailed report for our homeowners insurance . He was able to explain the way the stove and chimney was installed and give us pointers on maintenance and safety procedures and preventing the build up of creosote. All of this was accomplished quickly and he left our hearth cleaner than he found it. We feel much more comfortable about using the stove to heat our house this winter and would definitely recommend Chimney Rescue for yearly cleaning as well!

I called them on a Wednesday to cap two chimneys on the education building at Hillsville Christian Church, and they came out on Saturday. It is a 75-year-old building with a slate roof, so I knew from the outset it was going to be a difficult job. Mike figured it out and had the job done in quick order. He and Donna were courteous and professional and explained every step along the way. The church board was so pleased that it hired them to do crowns for the chimneys as well as treat them to withstand the weather.

Mike did an awesome job with my chimney repair and sealing. He was responsive, quickly diagonsed my issues, pricing was reasonable, and completed my repairs in a timely fashion. I'd high recommend Chimney Rescue!!!

Chimney Rescue was able to come out the same week I call. Excellent service and very knowledgeable. They took pictures and explained everything that was wrong and needed to be repaired. I highly recommend them.

Seemed very knowledgeable, had 2 chimney's that needed addressed was prompt and even put up a ladder to get up close and personal, and the house is 2story 117yr old farm house with a steep pitched roof.the good...very satisfied with the work, it was challenging, and the cost was reasonable and actually less than previous estimates(which NONE of those contractors bothered to return to do the work, or answer phone,txt,emails)..the bad...after initial estimate meeting and 1st day on the roof, I never knew when to expect them back, there were several broken apps, what on estimate said 4days took a month +, that's my only gripe,there was a 2wk period when it could've been completed b4 weather became an issue,but in the end I think Mike's work was worth the angst!And he warranties his work 5yrs

On time first , first company to actually answer and the standard of service was noptnoch. Watching Michael work was so impressive the way he moved on a 12 /12 pitch like it was a walk in the park ! My neighbors were drinking wine on their patio fully entertained by a craftsman doing what seemed impossible and risky to say the least . Michael and Donna did a great job repairing the chimney crown, cap and flue, cleaned out the chimney and ash catcher. Very efficient and left everything clean.

Michael did an excellent job! He did the masonary repairs, put a new cap on the chimney and sealer over the brick. He went above and beyond. If anyone needs chimney repair or work I highly recommend that you call Chimney Rescue out of Galax.

Mike & team did an amazing job getting our century old chimney back in working order. He & his beautiful lady made several trips to our home to complete all of the necessary work (cap, fix mortar, concrete piece on top, insulation, fire clay). So happy to have them local in Galax. Could not recommend enough - great people!

BEWARE!!! What would have been an easy 5-star review has turned into a 0-star review (well, 1-star since 0-star isn't an option...). All started well with Mike coming out late Dec to perform a chimney inspection and install a cap. Inspection showed mortar cracked on top, but didn't have the materials with him to fix that day. Installed the cap, was to schedule a time to come finish after the holidays.

Mid-Jan, the cap blew over and is hanging. Contacted to let them know, and to schedule finish for the remainder of the job (which was already paid for). Seemed like that would happen, then dead-air. After trying to get a response for several weeks (calls go to VM which has been full for 3 months), no response to texts or email. Finally when I mentioned that I assumed they had ceased to do business and would post as much, lo and behold a response that was basically "Sorry been out of town a couple weeks" (March 1).

Attempts to find an agreeable date were generally met with 4 word responses, and never an actual call. Fast forward, finally agree on a window of 4 days to allow for weather (this is an AirBNB, so we have to arrange appointment windows when available, and make a 4-hr drive. Moved appt from Sat to Sun because of weather. Last word was "Okay". Sunday morning I text asking the planned time, no response for almost 4 hrs, and then it was "On way". No response and no show for 4 hrs, so I send a LONG text stating how absurd it was. Response was something about a family emergency and "will call this evening with a definite time". I stated it would have to be Monday since new guests were arriving. Response was "Send me your address yes I can do it depending on weather". So, if you needed the address where were you going when you said "On way"?

At that point it was blatantly obvious that there had never been any intent to actually show up, especially given that a review was posted yesterday about an inspection on a Sunday (assuming that review was referencing yesterday).

Was supposed to receive a call last night to discuss an agreeable arrangement, no call. No answer to texts about a call. No answer to texts throughout this morning about arrangements to come out today, as was stated in texts yesterday.

At this point I'm just angry about the total disregard for a paying/PAID customer and the lack of respect. This is no way to run a business, and no way to treat people.

I SO wanted to be able to recommend Mike and Chimney Rescue since options are so few in the area, and the relationship SEEMED great at first. But whatever has happened in the last 3 months is not good. If you choose to go with Chimney Rescue, MAKE SURE that all possible repairs can be done the SAME day, because good luck getting a follow-up. But also good luck getting an appointment when the VM is full for 3 months....

I requested Mike to perform the 21 point inspection. This included inspecting the chimney, flu, fireplace and wood stove insert. I knew from the beginning a cap needed to be installed to prevent rain from entering. I also knew he would need to reseal the concrete on the top of the chimney. Mike identified a number of aspects that needed to be corrected. I was pleased with how he addressed those concerns, doing so in a timely manner. I am particularly impressed with the level of excellence/quality Mike strives for and expects of his assistant. Any aspect that Mike questioned, he returned to and completed to his high standard. I was also pleased with Mike and his assistant's attention to cleanliness.

The one challenge we experienced was having to reschedule the appointment due to weather and in that there were communication challenges as his business partner, Donna, was out of town.

Mike worked outdoors and indoors on two of the coldest days we have experienced. During the job and upon completion Mike not only kept me posted on the status of the job, but sent me photographs of before and after pictures as well as a video explaining what he had done. I am impressed that he not only aspired to enable the unit work to its fullest potential, but desired, and achieved to have a finished product looking far better than when he arrived.

Would I use him again? without question!

Would I recommend his services to others? I already am.

The icing on the cake is his wife and business partner, Donna, whose telephone greeting and personality are winsome, making the financial transaction as smooth as possible.
