I just recently had my roof replaced in Windsor, VT by CG Family Construction. There are many good things to say about this company. First, the initial meeting, I found the folks very polite and respectful, despite the condition of our home given the various other construction projects happening at the time. They were very direct and to the point and not in the least bit pushy. There were no sales tactics that made us feel pressured at all. First, they took measurements of the home and did a general analysis of the condition of the roof. We had five or six other consultations at this point and had been told similar conditions by all contractors. CGFC simply had the same scope of services at a great price, while remaining exceptionally friendly and asformentioned, not pushy.
I must admit, my wife and I were very indecisive in choosing a color for the roof. We had sent many texts messages back and forth changing the color before the final order was placed. These folks were patient in a saintly way. I think many contractors would have been annoyed with us, but CG, and I can't express this enough, was so patient and kind. They never expressed any annoyance even though I know we were probably on the more difficult end.
We eventually made up our mind on a color and the materials were ordered and construction commenced days later. I can't vouch for their schedule at this point, but they fit us in quickly, which we were in dire need of, as our roof was leaking in many places.
They arrived on time and our 200 year old roof was completed in two days. Our home is essentially two sections, a tall main section and a shorter sort of addition. They planned the demolition and construction perfectly. The rusty steel roof was removed quickly, and the original wood shingles were then stripped to the barn boards. I actually found the noise to be meditative while working from home. It wasn't bad, actually. The plywood sheathing, flashing, felt, and weather guard were all completed the first day The smaller section of roof was completely demolished the second day, while the entire shingle job was also completed that day. They arrived early and worked late.
I arrived home from work at 5:30 pm to a nearly finished job. Some cleanup was still in progress and final touches replacing the siding that had to be removed for flashing and such.
I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful and thorough a job these folks did. It is stunning, really. They did a great job on the drip edge and ridge vent. I am so proud of my home at this point, with a job well done.
If I could have done anything different, I would have kept better observation of their basic needs. We did put out a cooler of drinks with ice, water, snacks and such. These guys worked so hard in the hit sun that I couldn't help feeling bad about not having supplied them with more. As they finished up, we grilled a bunch of food for them, as it was nearly 7:00pm and they were finishing up.
While this post is definitely long, I felt it necessary to explain the process. I am very pleased at the preconstruction dialogue, the quality of work, communication, cleanup, diligence, and general kindness the crew presented us with. I am already considering a gutter job later this fall.
I highly recommend CG Family Construction for your roofing needs and if you want to take a look first hand at the quality of their work. Drive down State Street in Windsor and I will be proudly advertising their sign on my lawn.
