I am a 67-year-old retired aerospace engineer. I've moved a lot, and owned many homes. I've hired a lot of contractors for tasks big and small. Caribbean Solar Company is among the very best I've ever hired. That's especially good because this solar power system was the largest project I've ever done on a house. I bought an older, problematic house for retrofitting new air conditioning and solar power. The project was challenging. Kevin Schnell, the owner of Caribbean Solar, surveyed the house in detail, measuring the tilt and azimuth of every segment of my complex roof, used a sophisticated computer model to estimate power generation, coordinated with the air conditioning contractor, and designed an off-grid solar power system to handle everything. The project included reinforcing the wood portions of the roof with an extra layer of 3/4 inch treated plywood, two thick coats of silicone sealant on the whole roof, custom design and installation of a reinforced concrete shelter for the Powerwalls (smart batteries) and electric breaker boxes, tailored electric connections for two air conditioning condensers, upgrade of several old breaker boxes in and under the house, and finally installation of 42 solar panels (approx 13.6 KW) and 4 Powerwall batteries. I was extremely impressed by the work ethic of everyone on Kevin's crew. They all worked hard and effectively despite many brutally hot days. They powerwashed the roof, removing the old coating. The roof has two octagonal shaped sections, so they had to custom cut and fit every piece of reinforcing plywood. They were meticulous craftsmen fitting each piece of plywood. They properly installed gutter drip panels on the plywood. They carefully sealed all seams in the plywood before applying the silicone sealant. It took a long time in extreme heat, but they did the job right without wasting any time. Very hard workers! They neatly dug out and poured a concrete pad for the batteries and five breaker boxes and control boxes. They used top-quality fiber-reinforced concrete and proper rebar reinforcement. They let the concrete cure for a full ten days, no shortcuts, while they finished mounting rails on the roof, so no time wasted. They plastered over the concrete to match my house. They even tore out and replastered a large section of the shelter that had a minor crack due to unexpected rain while they spread the plaster. They did that on their own initiative. I didn't think it was necessary. They sanded and painted the concrete shelter white on one side to match the color and texture of my house, and steel grey on the other side to match the breaker boxes. It looks very sharp! Kevin's crew is professional. They all knew their stuff. They were very friendly and always answered my many questions. And they cleaned up after their work. They even did a couple of side jobs for me, running cat5 cable between the floors of my house, and running wire for a solar water heater from the roof to the pump on a lower floor. Throughout the work Kevin coordinated with the air conditioning contractor to make sure breaker box locations and wire gauges were appropriate. That proper coordination between contractors helped them both do their jobs well. Kevin kept me informed about the installation schedule at all times. There were a couple of brief unavoidable delays due to the covid-19 pandemic and one tropical storm. Kevin kept me informed about when work would stop, and why, and when it would resume again. There were no surprises. Upon installation, one brand new controller computer failed out of the box. His crew was on it immediately, and they replaced the part the next morning. The system works perfectly. Kevin's electrician trained me how to use the smartphone app to monitor and control the system. Kevin's team finished this large job ON BUDGET and with NO TIME WASTED. I am extremely happy with the results. I enthusiastically recommend Caribbean Solar Company to anyone installing solar power.
