We had an excellent experience using Blake Building to renovate our basement. Blake was transparent and highly organized regarding the project's cost and stayed within budget. He stood behind his work when we had a small issue with flooring and replaced the flooring quickly and at no additional cost. Our project was extensive with an added bathroom, laundry room, bedroom and rec area. He paid attention to detail and the beauty and quality of the final project exceeded our expectations.

Blake and his team did a great job finishing our basement. It was a full job that included adding new plumbing for a bathroom and laundry room, flooring, walls, ceiling, and finishes. Blake is super thorough at keeping track of costs and estimates to make sure there aren't any surprises when changes or decisions impact costs. He is incredibly accessible and responsive to feedback and getting issues addressed quickly. They continue to support their work, as we had some plumbing issues related to the basement on a weekend night, and he offered to drive over and inspect the issue himself, a year after his team was finished with the job! Would definitely recommend Blake and his team for additional remodel/finishing projects.

Blake and his team did a great job remodeling our bathroom. It was our least favorite room in the house and now it is one of our favorites. He listened to every concern that we had and drafted up detail plans so I was never out of the loop. Always gave me a heads up when someone needed to work on the project and always responded to my calls/emails/texts. Blake is a hard worker who does things by the book and I will definitely be using him again for future projects.

Blake building did a full basement finish for our family. Ed and team were professional, timely, respectful of covid precautions, and we're very responsive and communicative. I have hired and worked with many contractors and Blake building is the best of the best. The work is very well done and the team stayed within the timeline estimated which made it a very peaceful experience.

Ed and Blake renovated my kitchen and replaced the entry level flooring with real hardwood. They did a good job. The timing was longer than anticipated due to supplier delays caused by COVID-19. Once materials were available the job was finished very quickly. My wife and I are very happy with our new kitchen.

We hired Blake to finish our basement 2.5 years ago and I can recommend his work with confidence.

Our project was a medium sized project of about 1000-1200 square foot of finished space including a full bathroom, wet bar, entertainment room, extra bedroom, and a home gym. We had a rough idea of our design but had not formally hired a designer or architect. Blake and I worked out all of these details together. I had talked with 3 other companies before settling on Blake. His pricing was fair and competitive…not the cheapest but not the most expensive either.

What Blake gave was a true old fashioned builder experience (despite being a relatively young builder). When people come over, I can name my builder and say Blake built this. A larger design-build company cannot give this experience. Blake was on site almost every day and actually swings his own hammer with the rest of his crew. They do most of their own work and only sub out the things they truly cannot do or the things that just don’t make sense for them to do. He went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and for a while was meeting me on site once a week late in the evenings on my time to go over the progress and discuss our detail requests. In several areas, he gave us extra and a lot nicer level of finish than we requested, simply because it was going to result in a better end product. He took great pride in his work and I got the sense that he tries to do something special and extra for every customer. He also made a great effort to ensure that his crew and subs caused minimal disruption to our quality of life. They kept the site clean and arrived and left while we were away so there was no construction noise or interference with our family time.

I have procrastinated in writing this, but this does give the perspective of being able to look back a little. His workmanship is standing the test of time. We have no problems at all with anything of the work that was done and it is very high quality with the best of materials and hasn’t aged at all. I can also attest to the pride he takes in his job as we (through no fault of his) have had our basement leak twice since he finished due to our own bad luck. Both times I called him to help and he was out immediately to help us figure out our problem and get on the right track to fixing it and keeping our basement nice. He did not charge us for this service and only did this because he is a nice guy and wanted to help us out. Thank goodness we were able to get each issue fixed quickly without any actual damage to our basement.

As I said, I can recommend Blake with confidence. Coincidentally, we are building a second home up North. I am looking for my “Up North” version of Blake and I am having a hard time. Too bad I can’t talk him into building my house up there but honestly, I would feel guilty pulling him away from that beautiful family of his.

We used Blake Building to renovate an unused section of our basement into a home office and we were very pleased with the Blake Building team! We got a great initial quote and stayed within budget throughout the process. The crew is professional and courteous and provided updates whenever needed. Most importantly, the work is top notch. No cut corners and was built to last. Very pleased all around!

Blake and his team were great. Our bathroom remodel went smoothly and he was very willing to accommodate and resolve unforeseen changes along the way. Pete who did our shower and floor tiling was a master. Definitely recommend and we plan to call Blake for our next renovation job.

Blake Building and Home Improvement redid our house after a fire which affected every room. They did a beautiful job with it! Ed and Blake were on site a lot, making sure things were going smoothly. Ed had some ideas that would never have occurred to us, but he knew what we needed. I appreciate his suggestion for door knobs every time I go in and out of a door! They kept the work site so clean that I was careful when I came in to not make a mess. Andy, Tommy, Rachel and the rest of the work crew were friendly and professional. We recommend this company for small jobs and huge, complicated jobs like ours.

Blake and his crew put on a new roof for me. They got to it quickly and completed the job in a day. Blake personally stopped out on the job site a couple of times to make sure everything was going smooth. He also communicated with me every step of the way. Blake Building did a beautiful job with the complete renovation of a cramped, old bathroom in our Ann Arbor home. Blake and Ed were extremely responsive and helpful with all our questions and helped us work through the various surprises that come up in this level of complexity work. Completed work included wall relocation (including replacement/routing of plumbing, electrical, HVAC) re-tiling of floors and tub surrounding, tub replacement, window replacement, vanity installation, vent fan installation, drywall and painting. Blake’s whole team was courteous and friendly and took all available measures to ensure the construction mess stayed as isolated as possible.

Great work, excellent service, wonderful people. Ed and Blake answered all our questions, worked with us to get the project done at a price we could afford and were personally on site almost every day. All of the workmen were very skilled, friendly and polite. We love our new doors and trim!

Blake stopped by several times during the process ro ensure the quality of work, met his expectations. His crew was exceptional at their trade. Called this company to come out and give me an estimate on a small job. They called me the nite before and told me they couldn't make the appointment, and didn't offer to reschedule. If this company can't handle a small job, I'm surely not going to ask them to do any other job!!!! Just saying!!!

A very positive experience. Blake Building converted our screens-only porch into a three-seasons room with all new windows and doorwall, new insulated walls and floor, updated electrical and painting. The work was high-quality, accomplished on time and on budget. We couldn't be happier.

A second project was the construction of a new deck off the new three-seasons room. The quality of the construction was outstanding. The deck is absolutely rock-solid, on posts embedded in concrete cylinders. There is no movement whatsoever. It was put together using screws, not nails, and the floor was installed using a technique that concealed all the screw heads, giving us a smooth finish. Again, on schedule and on budget.

Communication was excellent; we always knew what was going to happen next and when.

Another much-appreciated dimension of both projects was the willingness to go beyond the scope of the proposal, at no cost to us, to improve the final product. For example, two kinds of insulation were installed underneath the floor of the three-season room and then plywood was installed and painted to give us a finished look. This involved someone working lying down on his back in a three-foot tall space. Another example; handrails were installed on both sides of the deck stairs leading to the ground; again, not called for in the proposal.

We highly recommend this company.

I requested a proposal from Blake Building and was set up with a 10 am appointment for a week later. At 10:20, I called and was told that they had been trying to reach me to say that they will not bid on my project unless I pay them $2,000 to handle the variance that I had already spoken to them about. I don't mind if a company changes their mind about providing a quote, but please let me know before I sit at home awaiting your sales person who is not planning to show. This was very disappointing.

YES. I contacted Blake Building to work on a roof replacement for my home. At the time, I had active leaks in my roof and, as you can imagine, it was a period of relatively high stress. Blake was very responsive and we were able to set up an initial appointment quickly. From that time forward, my stress disappeared as Blake assisted in every step of the process, including the recommendation of the perfect shingle color. We were able to schedule the roof replacement for the very next week (awesome) and his team knocked the job out in 2 days (with an additional 1/2 day of clean-up, final touches, etc). Blake's team was friendly, professional, and did an excellent job. Things didn't stop there, as Blake continued to follow up, ensuring that the job was done right and that my satisfaction was nothing short of 100%.
