They did an excellent job of removing the solar panels from the roof so the roofers could replace the old roof. They also did an excellent job of getting them back on the roof and getting them working again.

Big dog solar staffs wonderful, helpful people. The whole process of getting a battery and having it installed was easy. They are transparent about the process and costs, which were lower than their competitors. Eric with his team installed the battery. He was prompt, courteous and answered all my questions. Before leaving they made sure that I had the Franklin app and knew how to use it. I loved working with Big Dog Solar and will go through their company if I ever want to add more solar panels. I highly recommend their business.

Travis is very knowledgeable and helpful. Big Dog stuck to their schedule. Really nice conduit work on their electrical wiring. We are waiting on Northwest Energy for the meter change, so system isn’t on yet, but installation was awesome.

The installation crew worked quickly and were polite. They overcame obstacles well.
Everyone we encountered was professional and polite. At the beginning of the installation, we were frustrated because it was obvious to us that the crew that approved the locations for the equipment had not coordinated with the crew that did the installation. The install crew told us we couldn’t put the battery where it was approved to go. We had to scramble and move furniture and storage items to find another place for the battery. In the end, the battery was installed in the place that was our first choice, but in the beginning, we were told it couldn’t go there.
Overall, we are satisfied with the solar system we purchased.

My SolarEdge system had not been working for months, and I was having problems finding anyone who would help me get things straightened out and repaired. Ciara at Big Dog started helping me and things were straightened out soooo quickly. She gave clear explanations, was totally dependable, and knew how to work through the system of supplier/installer, etc. Super easy to work with. Tyler came out and did the repairs. He was patient (had to wait for me to get back home), efficient, and he cleaned up after he was done. Definitely a 5 star for this team!!!

We've needed solar since we moved in and Big Dog did more than deliver. They made sure we were up to code, made a custom ground mount design, ran about 300 feet of line back to the solar and connect into our home. The layout is perfect and the system as been working great so far.

Our solar panels were installed early in 2024 and Big Dog Solar did a great job of managing the project. They arranged for our new roof to be installed beforehand and got us a terrific price on it to boot. The installation was rapid and we started seeing the benefits right away. As with many others, we sighed deeply when we received the news of Idaho Power's reduction in compensation for self-generated power. But we also recognize that we had been told up front that future changes in the rate structure are always a possibility so we were aware of it going in. Disappointing? Absolutely. But that's on Idaho Power and the PUC.

I have never written a negative comment on Google until now. I am very disappointed with how Big Dog Solar handled my installation. They did not stand behind what their sales representative (Chris) told me. I was informed time and time again that my system would have a backup battery connected and it never happened. I even tried to work up the chain and they were not helpful whatsoever. They are not about creating win-win scenarios. My system was nearly $100,000 and I referred a customer over to them (who signed up), and they still could care less. They never even presented any type of solution to try to make it right. Crazy!!

Beware and know that the only thing that matters is what’s written in the contract. It doesn’t matter what your sales representative tells you they only care about the contract. One other caution to be aware of is if your system goes down it could take up to two months for them to get it rolling again. I wish I had never signed up with Big Dog Solar. Be very careful working with this company.

We installed a SolarEdge solar system without a battery in September of 2024. The first full day of production was on Nov. 1. The installation was not straight forward due to 3 banks of panels being located on the home and shop, having brick and stucco exterior, and no direct attic access. Fortunately, the installation team listened to my concerns and did an exceptional job with the installation. I believe the home office underestimated the level of effort, but the crews on the ground were very conscientious and worked many long hours to provide a very professional installation. “My congratulations to you”. Notably, Big Dog Solar coordinate all the permits etc. for a seamless installation. We are able to monitor the system, see energy production on a real time basis using the my SolarEdge App. We are very pleased with the solar system

It was a good process from start to finish. There ended up being a few problems, but Big Dog Solar was quick to respond to any problems and fix them. I've worked with other solar companies and Big Dog has been by far the best. I highly recommend them.

Caught on my security system going into my back yard supposedly putting a flyer on my back door!?! - took some time looking over my back area as if really logging the surroundings- THIS IS TRESPASSING!!! What business do you think you have at my back door uninvited peeping into a private residence? There was no attempt to go to the front porch door- only up my driveway of 100+ feet onto my back patio and back door. Your face and actions are saved. Secure locations can be dangerous

Carlos, the technician that came out to do my job, was wonderful… he took the time and explained things very well. Turned out I had some old communication devices on my equipment.
My experience with the help in the office left a bit to be desired. It took a long time for them to schedule someone to come and other communication problems on their part.

Big dog was open and honest about the installation process. The installers were easy to work with and listened to any concerns we had.

We have had our system up for a little over 6 months, and I am extremely disappointed in the return. We were definitely misled to believe that the panels we purchased would produce 90% of our usage. The system was $40k and the 90% was apparently just for our summer usage. That was never mentioned. Now we have a solar bill and are still paying a huge Idaho power bill for spring fall and winter. Be sure to ask questions regarding usage THROUGHOUT the entire year before you move forward. Wish there was a return policy honestly because it was a complete waste of money. After the initial 18 months, we will be paying almost $500 a month in the winter for our power. Also, anyone doing a review, please update after a full year of usage. Our initial review was 5 stars. I'd also recommend calling Idaho Power directly to discuss how the solar program works prior to install as well as talking to a tax accountant about the tax CREDIT to ensure you will get the tax credit since you will have to apply that to your loan in order to avoid an increase in payment.

In response to Big Dogs comment below- we added additional panels to increase our production after the initial plan and the projection was for 88-90% production, or so we were told. Regardless of that, customers should have all the facts when making such a large financial decision. I thought we had done all the research needed and here we are with a 40k system and a power bill. This review is to inform people to not trust the sales rep completely and to make an educated informed decision prior to install. For us, it was not beneficial and the production has not offset our power bill.

BIG DIG SOLAR ENERGY took care of everything. All we had to do was say yes!! `they took care of everything, from start to finish, friendly, helpful, and quality workmanship (And workladyship). Great company to work with.

I HAVE TO SAY I WAS SKEPTICAL ABOUT HAVING SOLAR INSTALLED. We HAD A FEW HICCUPS ALONG THE WAY, BUT THE BIG DOG SOLAR TEAM (AND THERE WERE MANY) THAT CAME OUT AND ALSO WALKED ME THROUGH A PROBLEM OVER THE PHONE. EVEN NOW, 2 YEARS LATER Krystal HELPED ME OVER THE PHONE IN DECEMBER. SHE EVEN FOLLOWED UP THE NEXT 2 DAYS TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS WORKING CORRECTLY. I DO APPRECTATE THEIR HELP. BEST OF ALL THEY ARE JUST A PHONE CALL AWAY. BIG THANK YOU'S TO THE BIG DOG TEAMS.

Big dog Solar installed my system in December of last year. The system is running fine, but I am very disappointed in the return. I was told it would supply all of the energy for the year with the surplus energy I made in the summer. Unfortunately, I’m already not producing enough And having to pay a monthly electric bill in addition to the bill for the solar system. I still have all of the winter to go through paying electric bills before the solar system begins to cover my costs again. It is a decent install but they certainly way over promised the output. I wouldn’t do this again and recommend against it.

Excellent Service Quality from Marketing, Operation Management, Accounting and Install. Everyone I spoke with was fully informed on my project and willing to find the right person if not. Everyone I met in person was friendly, knowledgeable, and excited to be a part of Big Dog Solar. That's a lot of good stuff in my book.

We had other company’s out to give us a bid. We just felt at ease with Big Dog Solar. They had done a couple other jobs on our street. They walked us through everything and it was very simple.

Big Dog did a great installation of a 10kW solar system with a Tesla Power Wall. Everything went according to plan from sales, to site inspection, to design and install. They handled everything including permits and interface with the power company. The installation crew arrived on time and went through everything that was going to happen to make sure I understood. They were patient and worked with a few quirks at my home. (Membrane roof, multiple electrical panels, etc). They kept me informed all along the way. The work was done professionally and they left the job site clean each day.
I highly recommend Big Dog.

Very fast efficient install. Output a few months in is basically what we expected. Couple bumps along the way getting the monitoring app to connect but they worked very hard to troubleshoot and communicated well. Now just a matter of waiting 30 years to see how the panels hold up and what market power prices do in comparison, wish me luck.

Although we ultimately decided not to install solar panels, our experience with Big Dog was overwhelmingly positive. Both people that we met in person were polite, informative and enthusiastic about the product. And when we passed on the opportunity, they were pleasant about it, again no pressure exerted. Highly recommend, at least as far as the sales team goes!

I just wanted to let you know that I have been extremely pleased with my new solar system. I actually had originally went through another company to begin with, but my agent was meeting many obstacles to get my solar project started and decided to go with a local company with Big Dog. What an amazing difference because one of the issues was getting the permits needed for the installation and Big Dog came to the rescue and was able to get the needed permits and from start to finish they were able to get the needed permits and had my system done in about 2 weeks (that’s including getting the permits and had a great crew to complete it in a timely manner) . I was also very impressed because I have a lifetime warranty roof and they didn’t want to void my warranty so we compromised with a ground mount. I submitted a picture of the ground mount and for the majority of my solar grid it almost completely covers my entire electric offset. I did have to pay a little bit in the middle of the summer (the month of July) when I am irrigating and my highest bill was about $50 when past years it was costing me about $500-600/month. It has been a game changer, especially since the power company continues to increase their rates. Again, a big thanks to Big Dog for making this possible and a pleasure to work with. Thanks Paul O.

Setup my solar panels within one day. Explained the process to me on how the solar panels are connected to the energy company. Broke down exactly how much energy I will produce vs. how much I use per month. They also have an app that connects the solar panels to your house so that you can actively see how much energy your panels are producing. They did a great job through the whole process and would most definitely recommend to others to get solar panels if possible.

The whole team was great! From the office staff to the installers they were so so helpful through the process!

They were the only company in Eastern Idaho who answered their phone and trouble shot my system after having a terrible experience with my initial solar system installers. Great to work with initially when everything was simple. However, once they get the panels installed they pressure you to collect money ASAP even though it isn't due until they are fully operational. Unfortunately, mine took 8 months to be fully operational and I had to get them to come out 6 additional times, spend countless hours monitoring our system, sent 100+ emails/texts/phone calls to 5 different people at the company to get them to finally fix the monitoring and battery issues. They told me they had "the most knowledgeable person on it" and then later another employee told me that person didn't understand what was going on at all.

I wouldn't recommend them and unfortunately we are stuck with them for the next 30 years of our warranty. I get that we had a complicated system, but just the way they went about it was a terrible customer experience.

On a plus side, Colin was great and now that the system is actually working properly it is awesome. Only reason this isn't a 1 star.

We had solar panels installedast February. Then added a couple more in the summer. Big dog was great to work with. They explained everything and always answered all of our questions thoroughly. We have. Ot had any problems with any of out equipment. I would recommend big dog for your solar needs

Service has been great. We did have a little bit of a wait with the permits with the city but once they went through it got set up fast.

From start to finish the whole team was great. Things moved quickly. Jason was a great sales rep and he was honest and helpful and really made us feel good about our decision to go solar.

* update. Hey thanks for responding 5 years after I left this review. I had forgotten I wrote it. let me update. As of 2025... after everything business wise was completed and installed Jason used his access to customer files and got my phone number to send me inappropriate messages and pictures of a sexual nature. He called me and harassed me constantly until I blocked his number. Solar sucks and I regret ever getting these panels. Idaho power screwed all solar customers over. The part that sends and receives data gets outdated and costs hundreds to upgrade. They seriously over hype the benefits and I am still left with $200+ power bills in winter. Biggest waste of money I have ever spent.
