When The House of Redemption (THOR) was left holding the bag after a former contractor deserted us mid-construction-build, we knew there were roof issues to address. Some were visible and some were not. Over the course of several months, as THOR addressed plumbing, electrical, and other major problems, we had three different roofing companies out to assess the roof.
For one reason or another, THOR chose not to enter into a service agreement with them. Two of the three insisted we needed a brand new roof.
When we next went searching for a roofer, Jason Whitley, of Benchmark Roofing and Restoration, came into THOR's life.
Mr. Whitley came and evaluated the roof, and then addressed three small problem areas which had the very real potential of becoming critical issues. In the repair quote we received, the identified problems and how each was to be addressed were clearly explained, the cost of each part of the work was individually listed, and the pricing was quite reasonable and fair.

Equally important is that while anyone can call themselves a roofer--and get paid for it--Jason Whitley actually specializes in roofing construction, similar to the way a neurosurgeon specializes in medicine. He also enjoys teaching problem prevention, which THOR loves!

These guys just finished replacing the roof on my 100 year old Clintonville home. It was a tough roof job in hot weather. They showed up on schedule, tore off 3 layers of old roofing, installed the new roof, and did an amazing job of cleaning up. I got a great new roof at a fair price. I call that a good deal. This company checks all the boxes of the things you look for in the perfect roofing company: a family-owned business with lots of experience, who answer all of your questions before you ask them (and, in some cases, before you even think of them!), who are a joy to work with because they are nice people, who are meticulous in seeing to the details, and who clean up so well that you barely know they were there—except for the beautiful new roof that went through the 2024 Ohio monsoon season without leaking a single drop.

Honest service provider! We reached out to Benchmark to inspect our roof after the recent storms in the area. Not only did Daniel assess that there was no damage at no charge, he also replaced our ridge vent caps during his inspection. We will certainly look to Benchmark when we’re due for a replacement in about 5 years.

Dan was super nice and helpful with my roof inspection today. This company was referred to me from my insurance and he came out (early for the appt too) and explained to me the situation with my roof and was able to assist. Benchmark put a new roof on our home after wind damage. We did not know any local roofers, and they were referred to us by our insurance company. They are super easy to work with, very professional, and willing to answer ANY question you have about the process without making you feel like a burden to them. Had whole house resided from the front office to the crew supervisor and crew were very nice and personable have other projects and I will use them for those they did an excellent job

Needed some fascia boards and soffit replaced as the existing ones had rotted out. Been trying to get someone to do this since early in the year. Nobody had even replied. Benchmark gave us a quote, and did the job. It was done a day late and they warned us about it ahead of time that the previous job was taking longer and might cause a day's delay. Found them to be very professional, and the repair work looks very well done. The workers cleaned up fully after themselves as well, which was a nice surprise. The only down side was it took them a month to get the materials, but at the same time, they kept us informed throughout of any progress made, Gabriella is very much on the ball, I didn't even have to bug them. Overall, very pleased with their work. This is the third time we've used their services over a couple decades, including roof and siding replacements and it has been similar experiences throughout.

The folks at Benchmark, everyone from the young woman that answered the phone to Gabby in production is just wonderful.
David came out and gave us a quote right on the spot. We thought we would have to wait 2-3 weeks for the roof and gutter work we needed, but because we were having issues with squirrels getting in Gabby worked us in the schedule sooner. We were so grateful.

Benchmark installed my new roof in 2018 and job was done on time with great customer service. 4 years later I had a question about the roof and found the customer service to be great again.

I am a bit dissatisfied with the professionalism of this company. They were recommmended by Nationwide as a preferred company but I however would not recommend their services. Invoice is not itemized and quotes and materials are not accurate giving this company the ability to change, manipulate and negotiate to their best interest. Their word and contract means nothing as it meant nothing to me as I refused to let them finish a project that was originally discussed. Integrity, trust and communication originates when a company steps foot on your property to discuss damage and cost. Thank goodness for the contractor who did this job, they did amazing! Too bad it didnt originate with them.

We had a flood and Benchmark came out and removed 175 gallons of water just in the carpet and removed the carpet. They took off the baseboard and drilled holes in the paneling for the walls to dry. They will be putting in drywall to one wall and baseboards. They will also install flooring. They did a great job. Irl, Josh and Carl did an excellent and were professional and personable. They worked very hard in high temperatures. We would recommend them. They were referred by Nationwide out insurance company and we’re quite glad and pleased. Please pass this onto Nationwide. Consumers & Insurance Companies, beware!

We entered contract with Benchmark on January 11th, 2022 after experiencing water loss from a faulty bathroom faucet on December 14th, 2021. Our contract was signed with Benchmark for $14,795.78 to perform work including flooring, drywall repair, painting, vanity replacement, etc. Benchmark's contract in the bottom right hand corner includes insurance work addendums which were not filled out by the project manager, were not orally disclosed to us by the project manager nor did we as home owners initial or sign to the terms. It is important to note that we were referred to Benchmark by our insurance company and were not required to utilize this company but elected to. (All loss dollars were paid directly to us and were instructed we could hire any contractor we chose to.) Upon work completion in April payment was made to Benchmark in full. Unbeknown to us, Benchmark filed a supplement for additional work they claim to have completed in our home that was not included in the estimate for $2,327.37. After several written communications back and forth with the company owner, our adjustor was included. It was discovered that Benchmark furthermore did not updated the insurance estimate to include the real costs of materials used for repairs. This includes hundreds of dollars saved on a vanity/countertop and thousands of dollars saved by the hard wood flooring we selected being on close out. In addition, we were "required" by Benchmark to work with Rite Rug flooring. During this process, we replaced the additional carpet and flooring in our home in order for all rooms to match. We learned that Rite Rug adds around 20% of the invoice when working with Benchmark due to this being insurance work. Benchmark refuses to acknowledge this as true though the invoices once migrated to our names directly were around 20% lower and essentially mirrored what our neighbor had just paid a few weeks earlier for the same material and square footage. From our insurance adjustor's perspective, this dispute became between us as consumers and the contractor. Several emails from the owner included the language "we will move forward" with the assumption that they would file a mechanics lien on our property. The supplement has been paid to them at this time as we work with the Ohio Attorney General and the Ohio Department of Insurance Fraud & Enforcement Division.

Hundreds if not thousands of dollars related to this claim belong to consumers or insurance companies related to this claim, not this contractor. Consumers are price gauged via increasing insurance rates from these types of poor unethical behaviors. Consider hiring a different contractor to perform your work.

Very professional, friendly, and timely company. Will be using them for all our future needs and would recommend to anyone and everyone looking for any work to be done!

We had Benchmark Roofing replace our roof with GAF shingles and they did an excellent job, it came out great. They did a quality job and their customer service is exceptional. We do highly recommend Benchmark Roofing.

I had Benchmark put a new roof and new siding w/faux stone accent wall on the front of my house. My experience was so positive starting from when David, our Sales Rep. came to provide an estimate for our project. I can't say enough good things about the whole experience. The crews were professional and did the best quality work. They worked so hard from morning to night and were always pleasant when we would check on their progress. I also love that Benchmark is a local, family owned business here in Powell. I would highly recommend them without hesitation. We love how our house looks and it exceeded our expectations.

The vinyl siding on my house was damaged by wind. The whole house needed to be resided. The people I worked with in Sales and Support were fantastic. The new siding looks great! The work crew did a wonderful job. They cleaned up all trash and extra material each day before they left. The crew lead made a special trip to install new shutters that were delivered after the job had been completed. I’m extremely satisfied!

We’ve used Benchmark for past annual roof inspections and repairs, so we asked for a quotation for a new roof when the time had come. Their quote was competitive but what most impressed us was the quotation detail and the thoroughness of the inspection. We are very pleased with the results and the experience. Through the entire process they were the best. We tried many roof companies and they were above the rest. They sent someone out the same day as our insurance came, and tried to say it didn’t need much, and fought for us! They showed them why it needed replaced. Then when insurance said they would just patch areas, they followed up with code on why it needed replaced! In the end they won for us and we got an entire roof replaced! Insurance started out saying we needed 6,000.00 for repairs and benchmark fought and got us a brand new 25,000 roof!
The install was professional and done in one day! 10 guys worked amazingly and cleaned everything up! I was most impressed when a guy came out 3 days later to inspect the entire roof and make sure it was done correctly! They don’t cut corners and they do amazing work!!!!!! Would use no one else! David and Dan Dawson are honest, hard working, and put their name on everything! Thanks so much!

We recently had a metal roof put on our home by Benchmark Roofing and we couldn’t be happier! Josh Fitch was our project manager and he was very professional and helpful. From helping us select the color to making sure the project was started and completed in a timely manner, he and the rest of the Benchmark crew did a stellar job! I have had numerous compliments on the roof and the quality of the craftsmanship. I have referred anyone who is in the market for a new roof to contact Josh at Benchmark.

I have used Benchmark Roofing for 3 projects and will probably have them do 1 more. The high rating I have given them (actually, the overall rating would be 4.8) is based on the following: (1) they're a small company & easy to work with; (2) reliability--each project involved some tweaking & they promptly and successfully resolved issues; (3) dependable & ethical project manager-- a guy named Terry who has deep experience in the construction industry.

I'm writing this review for my Dad who recently used Benchmark to replace his roof. He had nothing but great things to say about service, quality, communication, and clean up. 5 stars! Highly recommended!!

We couldn’t be more happy! After having our roof claim denied twice by our insurance company, Benchmark worked relentlessly to get it covered. They were professional, timely and took time to explain the product and process. We are 100% satisfied!

We had extensive hail damage to our home repaired by Benchmark on an insurance claim in October/November of 2006. They replaced the roof, 3 sides of siding, chimney cap, outside lights, etc. In early 2020 the chimney cap was leaking so I contacted them. They denied even replacing the chimney cap because their salesman had left it off the invoice. Dave showed up an hour and 15 minutes early for our initial appointment. I took off work early to meet him at the scheduled time and he had already been there. No call, nothing. I had two other roofing companies come to look at the chimney cap and the roof because they were denying that they had done the chimney cap work. Benchmark wouldn't return calls, finally fixed the chimney cap and a plumbing boot that was done incorrectly 6 months later and acted like they had done me some huge favor. Nevermind the 15 year workmanship warranty they advertise so proudly. Nevermind the roof on the 2 story portion of my house that they installed incorrectly per 2 other GAF Certified roofing contractors I had inspect the roof. They acted like I was trying to pull something over on them when it was discovered toward the end of the 15 year workmanship warranty that their workmanship was not so good on that portion of the roof. They lied on their response to my Angie's List review. Would not recommend.
We have found fitment issues with the vinyl siding they replaced along with careless cutting of trim pieces and a furnace intake vent that was replaced with a vent that can only function as an exhaust vent. Overall, poor quality workmanship on everything they touched is apparent every day on the outside of our home.

This company was recommended to me when I had problems with another company making errors in replacing my gutters. (The gutters still leaked after replacement and the company changed the price and the installation date.). Terry Wright came over promptly at the agreed upon time and inspected the site, stating the problem clearly and concisely. The installers were professional and thorough and the gutters were reinstalled (with the appropriate flashing that the previous company omitted). In the last few days, there has been no leaking from the gutters, even during the downpours! I cannot say enough about the honesty and integrity of this company and their employees. My only regret was not hiring Benchmark in the first place!

Recently sold my home. The home inspection showed active leaks in the attic. I was referred to Benchmark by a friend. When they came to assess the leak, they found MANY lifted and torn shingles, which is indicative of storm damage. (I also had 3 other roofing companies assess the roof and give quotes, but I ultimately chose Benchmark). From that point on, things moved VERY quickly to get the insurance ball rolling. I had a new roof within a week and was able to close on the home as scheduled. I truly appreciate the responsive action and direct communication throughout the process. The entire team was extremely responsive and professional. The roofing crew, in particular, worked into the night (almost in the dark!) to get things done on time. I have already called them to help with the roof on the house I've moved into!! I highly recommend Benchmark Roofing and Restoration.

We hired Benchmark to replace our roof on a 135 year old home that had asphalt shingles on top of slate. The chimney's (5 of them) needed pointing. Benchmark hammered the whole project in a week and we have been leak free ever since. Our house is 3 stories tall and they did a great job installing, cleaning up after and sealing our home. Great work!

We had all new siding, gutters, and trim wrapped replaced on our house and couldn't be more pleased with the results. Our 36 year old house looks virtually brand new! Mike and his crew did a fantastic, high quality job and were extremely professional and helpful throughout. I initially chose this company because of the selection they offered in both color and style of siding. They had more options than some of the other companies I looked at. They did our siding and gutters. I was so pleased with the detail of their work. They not only trimmed around windows and doors but also the outlets, lights, and water spigot. I can't find my negative review of Benchmark because the monster owner tries to cover up bad reviews. She points to her 'great ratings for 20 years' but there are more unhappy customers than she'd like you to know about. In a nutshell you might get an okay roof, or you might get a bad one. You're screwed if you get a bad one. She'll never own up to it. I highly recommend you buy elsewhere.

They came out promptly for an inspection of my basement damage but dragged me along for 5 weeks saying they would get started and never did. It would have been fine if they actually communicated properly and set a date to fix it but they made it clear I was not worth it.

Originally left a one star because of all that but was called begging for a better review by the owner. It is nice to see an owner with the confrontational tolerance to call an angry customer and try to fix their mistakes. Probably a decent company.

Had Benchmark put a roof my parents house and my house. What an operation. The crew showed up early, worked quickly and the workmanship has proven to be top notch. When they left, not a single nail or a single piece of trash was left on the property. Over the years I’ve found it can be a challenge to find a reliable contractor that does quality work. In my experience, Benchmark was a pleasure to work with.

Benchmark came to Findlay, OH after the hail storm in 2011 and replaced the roof, siding, gutters, vents, and garage door on my home. At the time I did not own the home but when I purchased it two years later, I started to find multiple issues including roof leaks.

I contacted Benchmark as the prior owners provided the contract (with 15 yr. workmanship warranty) at closing. Benchmark refused to honor their warranty (only two years old) since I wasn't the homeowner who signed the agreement and I was stuck with over 5 roof leaks causing thousands of dollars in damage. But hey, what do you expect from an out of town contractor that cruises in to town after a storm?
Please note, any contract with Benchmark is NON-TRANSFERABLE, and to correct their review response, I never "asked for free services" I simply wanted to have them come look over their product "they stand behind for any Benchmark Customer" and we would work out what they felt was a fair repair price. And I never threatened to write a bad review...I promised.
