To put it bluntly, Dave and his team are amazing. They renovated our staircase: they put in a new set of beautiful black walnut stairs with black walnut railings and balusters with iron newel posts, and installed new black walnut wood flooring on our 2nd floor, replacing our carpet. The work was top-notch, they were considerate and conscientious, they came in under budget (we did a little prep work ahead of time), he walked through options as we went, and we felt comfortable with them in our home when we were not there. David and his crew have completed a variety of jobs over the course of multiple phases at my home. From reflooring the kitchen, replacing deck railings, building a staircase to our deck, to a beautiful stone walkway and wall, he has been able to do it all! His attention to detail can’t be matched anywhere else.

Not only does he accomplish what you plan for, he also helps you make decisions and give fair estimates on additional issues that commonly arise during repairs. You only know so much about your home until you tear a wall open! We went over budget on our repairs but that was only due to David’s honesty on what repairs were critical to home safety as well as repairs necessary to prevent further damage. I hired Dave and Bartlett Hill Builders on two occasions. First to replace two windows. Second to install a custom slate hearth in my living room.

The window replacement was not easy. Every other contractor I talked to wanted to rip the walls apart and install new construction windows. Dave was able to figure out how to reuse the existing jam and meet the egress requirements all within my budget and time constraints.

The hearth installation was challenging because nothing in my 150+ yr old house is square or true. In addition I requested the hearth be flush with the original wide plank floor boards. Dave and the guys did an amazing job ensuring the structural integrity of the hearth and using professional finishing touches paying attention to every detail. Dave is the kind of builder who is willing to think outside the box when tackling those not so common jobs. His craftsmanship and quality is second to none. Simply put, he's my go-to guy.

If you are searching for a carpenter or general contractor, I am so very happy to recommend Bartlett Hill Builders for any of your home improvement or renovation needs. After sustaining some wind damage to my home in 2018, I hired Dave Hargrove and his crew to replace the damaged siding and to install two new windows in order to restore the area to better-than-new condition. I was so impressed with the finished product that, once again this year, I engaged them for another phase of long wished-for improvements. I must explain that my home is very old, very crooked (sometimes referred to as having "character"), and presents challenges at every turn. In addition to all that, I have preconceived notions of what I want the finished product to look like. Unlike others I had interviewed for the work, Dave was completely open to implementing my "design" ideas, and I am happy to report that he made them happen - beautifully, too!

Bartlett Hill Builders has now installed a total of ten new windows, all of which were complete not replacement windows, and replaced siding where necessary. The whole crew's conduct was professional throughout, they showed up on time and when they said they would, and cleaned up when they left. Best of all, even when this house presented unforeseen challenges, Dave worked hard to minimize the impact on my budget. We're now talking about phase three for next year.
