Appalachian Foundation was a pleasure to work with since day one. They installed 9 helical tiebacks, waterproofed my foundation wall, added a whole-house drainage system, backfilled, and leveled the extracted soil where I wanted it. Appalachian Foundation installed a long drain curtain in my backyard as well as buried my downspouts. Everything from the sales process to scheduling to performing the work was seamless and pain free. Great workmanship, well considered and ethical inspections (they didn't try to upsell anything I didn't need), and the crew was very professional. They replaced a foundation wall, installed drainage for it, installed a foundation containment system, and reparged a few other walls in the basement. Removed and restored fencing, and laid down straw and seed afterward. They even took care to reconstruct a little patio I have after installing the drainage for the foundation wall. 10/10, would recommend.

Appalachian Foundation Services has been fantastic from start to finish. They have been extremely communicative, the most professional, and display impeccable craftsmanship. Appalachian did a great job putting a sump pump in our basement entryway. Rico Carter, and Caleb Mattox worked hard to make it happen. Very neat, cleaned up afterwards. Would recommend these guys.

They were easy to work with during all steps of getting the foundation fixed. Also the price was half of what another company quoted and they didn’t even find the source of the problem that caused our foundation to crack. I felt Appalachian foundation took care to prevent any more damage and fixed up our problems we had already with the minimal amount of cost to us. The team that came out in December worked all week in the freezing rain and they cleaned up the best they could considering the weather. I would use them again if we have any other foundation problems.

I shopped around for some much needed work on our house and found Hunter and crew to be by far the best choice. The reps from the two other larger companies seemed more like used car salesmen with agendas that felt, at best, aggressive, at worst shady. Hunter's approach was honest and straightforward. After many lengthy delays on our part, AFS was able to complete the work. All members of the crew were courteous, professional, and left the site looking as it should. One young man even moved a heavy object to the barn while I was at work. Highly recommend!

I called Appalachian Foundation to look at a house I have under contract that needed a full foundation rebuild. I told them on the phone that the entire house needed to be lifted and a new foundation built. 2 guys came out and looked at the project and told me their company could do the work and they would get me a price, the following week comes and they said we are not interested in doing your project with no real explanation of why they turned down the work. They gave me no quote and only the phone number to a mason who is going to need the houses lifted to do the work. I only have so much time while under contract to do my due diligence and when companies like Appalachian Foundation cherry pick the work they advertise it costs the consumer time and opportunity.

1. Your office manager was given enough information to know this was a full lift project and according to your estimators that is just not a service you really do often and the person making the appointment should be able to convey that to a potential customer.

2. That is a "cop out" answer as stated above I told the office what I needed and your crew should have been able to come to the conclusion that this was not a good fit the same day.

3. The only missed calls I have from your firm came after the first visit was done and I am insinuating that your firm never had any intention of providing the services requested or a full quote.

4. I said if the lift was going to be like $100,000 and this is what is really pissing me off with your firm, the person that called to tell me it was going to be $100k+ could answer no questions on how that was possible. To build a brand new foundation for a new home this size would be $30,000 so how do we get to $100k?

Your company is not interested in doing certain projects and my reason for this review is to inform other people that if they need a full lift and foundation replacement that this firm is not offering those services or if you are then your are being selective in the types of communities and demographics you are will to work with.

Our home is over 200 years old on historic property near Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest. It was built in the early 1800s with a dirt foundation, handmade bricks, and local timber. Time had taken its toll.

We got various bids. Prices and approaches spun across the board. AFS did a thorough under-house inspection, followed by a detailed plan and estimate. We discussed options with Hunter, who addressed every question or concern.

It was a major project. They taped off the work area, put in a big HEPA fan, and spent the next month constructing a load-bearing masterwork. They literally rebuilt the foundation from the ground up. Each team member was polite, steady, creative and skilled. The crews kept a neat work area while they shored up the house, restoring value, stability, and longevity. Its heritage and history can continue.

We recommend Appalachian Foundation Services as an outstanding company that provides expert foundation restoration with integrity, fairness, service, and quality.

All workers were friendly, knowledgeable and very accommodating. Sam, malachi, Wyatt, Rob, Ben, calvin, and preston were the workers for this project. Appalachian Foundation is a very professional contractor and knowledgeable in their field, and I highly recommend.

I had AFS encapsulate my crawl space. This was a preventative move, as I didn't have moisture issues. But, with some indication of mold growth and higher humidity than I wanted, I made the move to get my space taken care of. The initial inspection and quote were very reasonable, and I appreciated that they were willing to price match a competitor's quote as well.

The team did an excellent job. They were communicative, timely, and cleaned up very well. I was kept apprised of the progress and plans for the next day throughout.

It's been over a month since I had the work done and I am very pleased. I definitely recommend AFS for their professionalism and high quality work!

The crew (Wyatt Early, Ricco Carter, and Malachi Jackson) on my deck repair were all highly professional and courteous. From the initial quote from Ryan, I could tell this was an honest company, as they recommended repairs over a full replacement. They made a mistake on my quote and made it right by offering a sizable discount on a portion of the repair. The job was done correctly and efficiently. I wholeheartedly recommend this company.

I chose Appalachian Foundation to do the much needed repair work to the foundation and surrounding area of our home and putting in a french drain to remove any water from the foundation area, Hunter and his team were very professional and easy to work with and did a great job in a timely manner as well and reasonably priced compared to the competition. I highly recommend them to anyone needing foundation repairs.

We had a small job, but these folks treated us like we were their best customer. Quick response for a solution and estimate, exceptional communication about scheduling and scope of the work, completed the work on the scheduled day and left the area perfectly clean! The team who performed the work were also friendly and professional. I highly recommend Hunter and his exceptional team!

In 2023 we hired Appalachian Foundation Services to shore up our garage and front porch, both of which showed cracking. They worked efficiently and explained everything they were doing. In 2024, as we prepared to renew the cracked decorative tiles atop the front porch, we discovered that there was an 8-foot cavity under it and that the wooden frame "holding" the cement slab had rotted. The foam support AFS had pumped under the porch surface to stabilize it had fallen undetected far below. We called AFS to come review the situation and they immediately agreed to repay us the cost of the foam application. They also said they'd never seen such a thing, that usually the space under a porch was only about 6 inches. We believed them -- it was a very weird way to construct a porch -- and asked them to remedy it. They did by opening up a hole, descending into the space, and placing multiple metal support braces the length and width of the porch. They provided photos before and after, and gave us a discount on the repair. They also said they were changing their assessment protocol to double-check for such things in the future. All in all, an excellent experience.

I had another provider complete work on basement foundation and was unsure if I needed additional work. Hunter and assistant inspected the work as well as questions I had regarding foundation outside. They were professional, knowledgeable, and friendly.
They didn’t try to sell me services I didn’t need. Instead they let me know that the work already completed was sufficient. They were also very helpful ensuring I understood my options for the outside work. This was honest customer service at its best!! Thank you Hunter and assistant!

Summary: an outstanding experience from start to finish, tackling some very tricky issues!

Appalachian Foundation Services came out to help us with about five days of work across foundation repair (carbon fiber straps across two long walls) and foundation drainage improvements (multiple new pvc drain lines and drain line extension). We also had an exterior drainage issue on our back porch that had stymied multiple previous structural engineers re: remediation.

The Appalachian Foundation Services team gave us a job quote, was great about working with us to adjust the scope and the quote to meet our budget, worked with us to find a good time to do the work, and came to do the work precisely when we had slated it.

In addition to the easy experience above, I’d like to highlight several things that made working with them truly outstanding:

- when they got into our back porch drainage work they quickly realized the planned approach was not going to work due to the insufficient thickness of our concrete pad. Steven did a thorough investigation of our options and in the process discovered there was a root cause that prior pros had missed. Steven and Hunter came up with a long term solution for the actual issue (different than what we thought heading into the project) that was two days faster and thousands of dollars less expensive than the originally planned solution. They finished the project early and under budget! Unheard of!

- the team was great about checking in and getting my opinion on things as the project took place. I felt like we were listened to and taken care of the entire time, especially when the need to pivot on the back porch happened

- the team left the job site in impeccable shape every day and indisputably nicer than it was when the project started

- every person that came to work on our project was friendly, considerate, dedicated, and easy to work with

It was a pleasure to work with them and they have our unequivocal recommendation. Thank you to the entire team!

After discovering humidity issues in our crawl space, which led to cupping of hardwood floors, we decided to pursue a crawl space encapsulation project. After receiving three quotes, we opted to go with Appalachian Foundation Services because of the ease of communication, customer service, and fair and reasonable cost estimate. We have been so pleased with our choice! From the first point of contact, the entire project was completed in 6 weeks, with the encapsulation process taking ~3 days. Wyatt, Ricco, and Steven made an outstanding team, and were very pleasant to work with. Special shoutout to Wyatt for giving me a tour of the crawl space after the project was finished to explain the process and answer all my follow-up questions!

Everyone is so helpful and prompt! We were thankful to get on the schedule earlier than originally quoted. The work we needed done was done in a timely manner, and we appreciated the response rate and communication. It's difficult to find contractors who show up and work when they say they will. We're very pleased!

I bought a house at auction that needed serious attention, not gimmicks and sales shenanigans. Hunter from AFS was very professional and knowledgeable. He did a thorough assessment of my house and its needs and provided a prompt quote. When I had questions, he answered them. And, in fact, when I had more questions at a later date he came back to my house again. His service and attention to detail are exceptional. When I asked how he would be involved with the site work, he said he would not but had full confidence in his team. His team proved themselves as well - courteous, prompt, excellent communicators, hard working come to mind as descriptors. One day Nate also had Hunter dialed in on a video call in the middle of the work to consult. Bravo. Because of this experience I already asked Hunter to come assess another part of my house to consider additional work. I work on houses in the trades as well, and I am around all kinds of practitioners from all fields. I place Hunter and his AFS team at the top of people I have crossed paths with in my profession. If you have a structural need I recommend AFS wholeheartedly.

First thing I noticed about the crews were how safety minded they where. All work completed with the quality as expected from the standards of the profession. Nathan, Cameron, an Rico were always polite and had the best possible answers to my questions.

Had an awesome experience with these guys. Ryan came to our house twice to check on things we found, and even helped us compare our estimates from other companies to make sure what was needed. Very knowledgeable and accommodating staff to adding additional projects and completing the job in a timely manner. We are so pleased with our experience with this company. Our team at Virginia Realty Group needed repairs done in preparation for a closing. I am extremely pleased with the work performed by Appalachian Property Preservation. The steel beam with steel jack posts was installed in the crawlspace to correct a problem with the primary bathroom flooring. Having quite a few projects completed on an older home, the construction by APP was by far the best quality repair completed on this house and I’m a 100% satisfied with every aspect from beginning to end of this project. Our 100+year old house was showing signs of structural issues evidenced by buckling floors and a split in our gambrel roof joints. We had foundation inspections by several companies. Appalachian Property Preservation, LLC definitely had a grasp of the causes of the issues and solutions to stabilize the house. Their knowledge was extremely apparent from the VERY thorough inspection from the attic to the crawl space to the completion of work. We are extremely satisfied with the quality of work performed. The work crew was very professional and knowledgeable of the structural engineering aspects that needed to be performed. They kept us informed of their schedule and worked non-stop while they were here. The materials used were of high quality from the structural supports to the encapsulation installed. They even vacuumed the crawl space when they were finished! I highly recommend this company for the expert knowledge and quality of work.

I completely lucked out finding this company. They did an amazing job with my crawlspace encapsulation. That wet musty smell is gone and I’m so looking forward to not manually sump pumping after every rain.

Hunter and his crew did some extensive structural remediation on a 50 year old house I recently purchased. The corners had stair-case like cracking and a basement wall underground had horizontal cracks. They drove piers under all 4 corners of the foundation and applied carbon fiber support straps to an underground wall. They also did some water drainage remediation to get water from the gutter downspouts further away from the house. It took several days but I was well informed of there work days/times and they were very professional, including the guys with shovels in their hands. They did a great cleanup and I feel very confident with what I saw, that my house is now stabilized for another 50 years.

APP initially came in to encapsulate our crawlspace and renovate our bathroom in our new home due to water damage. Some structural issues were discovered, and they were able to fix those as well. Our bathroom turned out beautifully and we could not be more grateful to Hunter and his team – Nathan Patterson, Robert Railton, and Steven Ingold. Our crawlspace is now fully encapsulated, complete with new plumbing and new jacks under the bathroom.

I used Appalachian Property Preservation for some electrical work, a deck repair, and some repairs to my gutters/soffit. They did a great job, were punctual, good communicators, flexible with my timing needs, and did good work. The two crew members I worked with were Jesse Gilley and Cameron Campbell. They were great.

Hunter was very responsive, kind, and informative when I first reached out to him about installing an exhaust fan in my upstairs bathroom, as well as having my basement crawlspace cleaned out, encapsulated, and adding a dehumidifier.

Cameron Campbell, Rob Railton, and Jessie Gilley are the fellas that came out to do the work and I must say they all did a fantastic job. It's obvious that they know what they're doing; they installed the exhaust fan seamlessly into my 1940s era bathroom and it looks like it was always there. They did both jobs well and cleaned up after. They were kind and patient with my nosy dog, and me -- with my many questions and curiosities.
