7/25 I had a 40 gallon Rheem electric water heater installed in my condo by After Hours Home Improvement. Upon completion, I received an non itemized invoice in the amount of $2,575. I called to complain about the charges and inquire why the invoice was not itemized. I spoke with a person named Reid and he told me that was the way they billed and sent out their invoices. I will never use this company ever again and will inform my fellow condominium owners of my dissatisfaction with this company; they all have 40 gallon electric water heaters.

Hiring After Hours home improvement has been the greatest experience I have had working with a contractor. The owner Reid is incredibly knowledgeable, extremely communicative, tremendously trustworthy and honorable trustworthiness. I am putting my home on market and the first thing I told Reid was that I was looking to put my house on sale and hope to receive near top dollar and we toured the whole house highlighting issues from past contractors and he gave me options that ranged from low cost to higher costs , certainties and uncertainties and everything in between. He ended up doing a lot of work and his men were trustworthy knowledgeable and great to work with. He spent time educating me on certain aspects of home ownership, maintenance and repair and did it all with a smile. I’ve attached photos of their work. Highly recommend After Hours if you want your work to be done correctly! Many thanks

Upon initial contact, I was pleased with not having to pay a fee for them to come out and give a quote. They arrived on time which was appreciated but unfortunately the positives end there. We had them out to replace a garbage disposal and inspect a leak. They indicated the leak was because there was no gasket installed between the faucet and the sink and that the faucet would need to be replaced (despite being only 3 mos old, they said they could not just seal/caulk it). The cost they gave to replace the faucet and disposal was $1500. Since this was for a rental property and we didn't want to inconvenience our tenant further or have to take more time out of our schedule to get the issue resolved we agreed to the work. I followed up with Reid (whom I presume is the owner) once the work was completed and his attitude was less than professional. Shortly after I hung up with him, he sent me a long text message that further demonstrated how unprofessional he was.

Upon seeing owner respond to my review: A Hunter Bay faucet, at Home Depot is approximately $100-$150, a 1/2 hp garbage disposal is about $150, so assuming $300 in parts and even a 50% markup...$450 in parts leaving $1050 for 3 hours worth of work, half of which was your people going to purchase the parts. We agreed, yes, but you charged $525 for your people to go to shopping at Home Depot.

After Hours Home Improvement was the best I have ever seen in how they handled our situation. Reid and his team(Walter, Jose, & Manuel) were extremely patient with us during our difficulties we encountered because of a mistake on our part.

They changed the entire setup of the plumbing that was done wrong under our kitchen sink, and repaired the wall behind sink exhibiting their expertise!!! We are extremely happy to have asked their company to do the job!!!

I cannot speak highly enough of their professionalism and expertise. Mr. Reid Gravitte and his team were amazing. I will explain. So, 4 years ago when covid started, I had the opportunity to WFH. Not knowing how long this opportunity would last, I called a few contractors for an estimate on a bathroom renovation. And Reid was the one I trusted. Because the truth is we have 3 three bathrooms, but each bathroom had a purpose. One for washing hands, one for a restroom and one for showering. Yes, it was that bad, but it could have been worse. So, we decided to get one bathroom done, so we would at least have one whole bathroom that works properly. I informed Reid I only wanted the necessities done to the bathroom. So, he and his team proceeded to start the job, but while the job was happening, he came by and noticed the bathtub needed to be done. I knew I needed a new tub…but I was thinking about one thing…. MONEY! LOL. He then said what he would do to help me out, by the time the job was completed, the whole bathroom was done. We were very pleased. He is passionate. He is thorough. And at the end of the day, he will ensure the job is done well. Besides, it is more expensive to get it done TWICE.

Beware. We hired After Hours several years ago based on a referral from a friend. At first, we thought they were great. We used them for all of our quick repair needs. Recently, we have become very concerned that they are not being honest with us. We got a notice from DC Water that our water bill was unusually high. We asked After Hours to come look and see if they could figure out the problem. They did a dye test and couldn't find the issue. Without doing any further research, they told us we had to replace the water pipe connecting our house to the city mainline that runs under our front yard. We had also asked them for a quote to fix the retaining wall. After they claimed we needed to replace the pipe, they said the retaining wall was just going to end up part of the project anyway and quoted us $34,000 for everything! We thought that was outrageous and got quotes from Magnolia Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling and another company as well. The Magnolia technician came out, did some more research and first said we needed to find our meter in the yard before we could confirm the pipe in the yard was leaking because we needed to turn off the water at the meter to see if the meter was still counting water usage--which would indicate a leak. After Hours never even suggested to do that before claiming we needed to replace it! In fact, After Hours didn't even look for the meter, which turned out to be buried in our front yard! Magnolia also said it was unlikely it was the pipe anyway and probably just a problem with the meter. And they were right! The meter was just miscounting the water usage! Thank God we got Magnolia's second opinion. In any event, Magnolia said it would only be $10,500 to replace the pipe even if we needed to. After all that, After Hours had the gall to charge us $375 for "the diagnostic visit and dye test." They didn't tell us this was the cost beforehand and it's almost twice as much as Magnolia charged us for the same service--and in Magnolia's case they at least gave us an honest assessment and saved us thousands of wasted dollars.

I can’t say enough good things about Reid and After Hours Home Improvement. We’ve used them 5 times in the last six years. We have called them for HVAC, water heater, and drain issues and have never been disappointed. They’re honest, responsive, competitively priced, and they explain the issues so you know what you’re buying and why. And they’re dedicated to getting the job done right.

We had an HVAC that stoped working without explanation. After Hours spent the time to extensively troubleshoot and get it working again, then didn’t charge anything because it was still under warranty, not even labor for the hours spent troubleshooting. I couldn’t believe it.

If you need “an HVAC guy”, call Reid and After Hours. And if something else breaks around the house, give them a call. You won’t be disappointed!

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
