I have used Advantage over the years for several handyman projects and recently a major bathroom remodel that is so beautiful! All of their teams/design/office staff have been reliable/on time (every morning 7:30 am!), responsive, respectful and courteous. I choose them every time because they are honest, experienced and do what it takes to get the job done. Home ownership isn’t for the weak, but, Sean and his teams always put me at ease-there is a solution and they will be there to see it to completion.

Sean and his team are great, professional, knowledgeable. I've thrown a lot of difficult projects at them over the years and they have always nailed them in a timely manor. From deck expansions to major repairs to power washing, they are the best.

I have had a great experience with Advantage and would definitely recommend for your home needs. They were quick, efficient and talked with me through everything that I wanted done.

As a realtor, I refer my clients to many local businesses. I’ve had great success with the team at Advantage. They’ve flipped a home with one of my clients and completed new kitchens and bathrooms for others. I would highly recommend them for any home improvement project.

I wanted to hire Advantage to do a large-scale renovation but Sean was open and aid our budget was below what it would take to hire Advantage but it was what he did next that surprised me. He went step by step on how we could oversee our own project and who we needed to hire and what order. He than provided the contact numbers of people he recommended. He genuinely took us step by step through how we could do it. Finally he said if we get stuck somewhere just give him a call.

I scheduled an estimate with Advantage Home Contracting. My wife was supposed to be present for the appointment but was running about 30 minutes behind. I received a call from their receptionist, Heather, who was rude and unprofessional from the start. I got in touch with my wife and tried to call Heather back, but got no answer. Heather returned the call shortly after, I apologized for the mix-up, but she remained rude and unprofessional.

I fully understand the missed appointment was our mistake, but the way it was handled by their staff left a very poor impression. Customer service matters, especially in situations like this, and based on my interaction, I won’t be using this company for any work and can’t recommend them to others.

Did a great job! Established a great relationship. I am so happy I picked the right color! They went above and beyond by replacing the vents in the bathrooms that were rusted. The new bathroom floors are gorgeous!

I never leave reviews, but I’m making this one exception because Sean, John and the whole team did an exceptional job building our screen porch out in Madison County. No detail was too small, and Sean and John‘s advice was always excellent. From the stamped concrete floor, to the seamed metal roof and copper gutters no detail was ignored. And the overall result, with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside, is just spectacular. Thank you so much!

We needed some repairs on our house and found hidden water damage that made the job much more difficult and extensive. Advantage was honest, helpful, and qualified every step of the way and did a fantastic job on the repair work.

A key differentiator is how easy Advantage is to work with. A contractor that answers the phone when you call them, shows up when scheduled, stays at the job until it is finished and complete. We will use them again.

Someone referred me to Advantage and I was eager to call because the plans I have for my home. Crystal answered I explained how I got their number. She asked what I wanted done…I told her. Gave her my address and she immediately said “no” he can’t do that he doesn’t go that far. Well I was taken aback because I’m exactly 33 minutes from this place. The website says surrounding counties. I asked would she suggest another reliable company. She said I’ll ask the guys and let you know. Never asked me for my phone number. ‍♀️. A little disappointed…

Sean and his staff and crews are The Best! From my first phone call to Crystal, to Sean providing estimates, to the painters and carpenters that completed the work- We had the most wonderful experience. I was nervous about having painters in my home for 3 weeks, but Aaron and Edwin were both professional and did marvelous work. Buck and Jerry did a great job on the deck and front porch. We recommend Advantage to anyone needing home improvements!

Advantage has done a bunch of work on our house (roofing, siding, electrical, and more!). Most recently, they rebuilt/repaired most of our 30-year-old deck. The workmanship is great and they explained what they were doing every step of the way. When there were delays (not their fault: there were weather and supply delays) we were always informed and kept in the loop. Aside from the great work: The crew was so incredibly nice and friendly! Thank you, Advantage — my wife and I couldn't be happier!

Sean came by to give a free estimate for a possible 3 season room conversion on the back of the house. Was considering making a small, roof covered patio into a 3 season space. With his wise advice and penetrating insight, Sean ended up saving me 25K on the project.

Advantage was such a great company to work with and specifically the owner, Sean. He was so patient and helpful with the design and oversight of my project.

John Cox and his crew completed a cedar-to-asphalt roof swap precisely to plan - no delays, no surprises. Communication was excellent throughout the process and we appreciated the team's professionalism and attention to detail during daily clean-up.

In late November 2023, Advantage came out to quote multiple projects at my home. The smallest, but most pressing, was an exterior basement door replacement. I had removed the old one and purchased an identically sized pre-hung door that was ready to be mounted in the rough opening covered by a tarp. The other projects were more extensive remodel projects and were ready to get started. Multiple times, Tony quoted the handyman hourly rate of $95/hr for the door, but we were not permitted to schedule its installation until we received an email estimate. It took five days to receive an email estimate, just a few lines of text that included the hourly rate plus time and half for the first hour (not mentioned in person). Had Advantage allowed us to schedule the repair during the estimate appointment or immediately after, and been upfront with the pricing (even at the higher rate), we would have hired them. I reached out multiple times over the next few weeks, attempting to receive estimates from the other projects discussed during our appointment, but Advantage did not respond.

Edit: Obviously not everyone's Google account is linked to their name, but regardless I will still call the office tomorrow to confirm our details and send you email and call receipts for where we were completely forgotten about.

After receiving our estimate, we have had to chase this team down for WEEKS attempting to get our contract and pay our deposit by both phone and email. Being in contact with the office and Tony both, they completely left us in the lurch while continually promising the emailed contract while never delivering. No one from the office ever followed up with us to let us know with what was going on, and we've wasted precious weeks waiting for nothing. Poor communication and unprofessional.

Advantage Home Contracting transformed our bathroom and exceeded our expectations. They handled everything from designing the layout to the installation, and completed the project efficiently. We are extremely satisfied with the final outcome and will definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a bathroom remodel.

Our bathroom was so outdated with ugly tile and a tub we could no longer get in and out of. They resigned the bath to build a larger senior friendly shower and gave us some storage ideas that were so helpful. They crew was friendly and I must say very talented. Larry and Carl were fantastic.

Write down and sketch with whatever you wanna build and take a picture, because owner has a good language , you can easily get fooled!

From start to finish the entire team were truly outstanding. Sean arrived within the time frame provided to review the project and shortly after provided a quote to redo a newly installed walk in shower by another contractor that was leaking. Larry and Carl arrived when scheduled to begin deconstruction of a newly installed shower and discovered 4 leaks. They installed a correct shower floor, built a new shower bench and installed all new tile. Larry and Carl were beyond professional, kind and did phenomenal work. They provided daily updates on where they were in the project and completed within the time line provided. We could not be more pleased with the team, the final results and look forward to having them back to work on a future project goal. We would highly recommend the superior quality of their work and are extremely thankful for Larry, Carl and Sean.

Advantage replaced two stoops and a ramp for me. Good quality work, reasonable price. Will call them again and highly recommend.

I have had Advantage Home Contracting do many renovations for me at two different homes and have always been pleased with the results. After a few estimates I hired Advantage Home Contracting for redid my kitchen. The experience was great from start to finish. Advantage to save the day! After discovering a rotten joist under a sill during a bathroom renovation I was in over my head. Advantage was professional, on time, reasonable priced, and cleaned up after themselves. The work was exactly as I hoped for in a fraction of time I thought they would take to get the job done. Advantage Handyman was replacing some shingles and fixing a small hole in our roof and said that the roof vent boots that we had were not correct and needed to be replaced.

These were the roof vent boots that Advantage Handyman replaced a few years earlier.

Since they said that we could have leaks we had them replaced again and they charged us full price without giving us a discount (even though they installed the incorrect boots a few years before).

Tony and his crew at Advantage remodeled our house prior to listing. Remodeled kitchen, bathrooms, painted interior and handymen work. His crew of Juan, Paul, Aaron, Robert, Jack and Buck did fantastic work for a very reasonable price. We gave them a tough backsplash to do and Paul is frankly an artist. It is some of the best tile work I've ever seen! Highly recommend for any project.

Top-notch! We did a full master bathroom remodel (getting rid of a old jacuzzi tub was the main inspiration), and Advantage did a fantastic job. see photo. They worked with us every step of the way, and communication was very good. Even some minor supply-chain issues (not their fault) were resolved quickly. Wouldn't hesitate to call them again for a major project.

We are so thrilled with our new screened porch completed by Advantage in May 2022. The work was completed in approximately the time frame quoted and very professionally. We have used Advantage several times and would not hesitate to recommend them.

I have used Advantage Home Contracting for numerous projects from a complete master bath remodel, kitchen remodel, to painting and most recently to install new baseboards in my first floor after having new flowering installed. They alway do a great job and have been flexible with scheduling to get the job done in a timely fashion. I'm an engineer and am very particular when it comes to details. The workers listen to what I want and execute accordingly.

We turned an upstairs closet area into a bathroom and finished our basement. We were very happy with Advantage's work. The construction crew was professional, completed work on schedule, and did good work. Sean was very responsive and easy to deal with.

Brian did an outstanding job tiling our shower and Sean coordinated the project while we were out of town and was able to complete the project ahead of schedule (with the exception of the glass door to be installed in the coming weeks).

The Advantage Home Contracting crew was on time, full of ideas and did excellent work. The crew built an interior wall with French doors, a fireplace surround, and completed a number of smaller jobs. The results exceeded our expectations in every way.

I needed to have an existing tub caulked and also have the floor replaced from linoleum with penny tiles. The rep came in to inspect and provide a quote. He stated that I would have a quote by Friday. By the next Wed I had to contact them to obtain the quote. It took several days before I had a response. When I finally did receive a quote, it did not include installing the new tile floor. I had to contact again and wait another week+ for a response. It's a small bathroom of 5x8. The quote was $4000+ to just install the floor and $200 in caulking materials and $150/hr for 1st hour and $120/ each additional hour. That's at the bare minimum of $500 for caulking. That quote is outrageous! We are talking about almost $5000 to caulk and tile (not including the cost if the floor tiles). I contacted them to discuss further and try to bring the cost down, but have not had a return response. I now have to find another contractor and have wasted over a month dealing with this company. I DO NOT recommend using this unprofessional company.

Had a major drywall repair after a huge plumbing job. They were great to work with, did a thorough job, and came in under budget. Very satisfied!

Updated to add: Tony contacted me about my experience and set someone over to finish/fix the work. The person was considerate and did an excellent job. Tony also mentioned that he has a new more customer service oriented team. Four stars because of the hassle but I would consider using Advantage again.

Had a terrible experience. Costs went way over the estimate, workers were horribly rude, work was so poor the first time business had to send people to fix it, and, despite assurances they would find a missing component of the kitchen, they never did and never got back to me.

Needed some outside siding repaired. Tony’s team was courteous and very professional. I was not over charged and the work was very high quality. Great group of people, I plan to use them again.

On March 13th I completed the generic contact me/estimate type form on the company’s website. I have a home addition and deck replacement project I’m in the planning stages of. I read through reviews and looked over their website at length. The website is professional, and the “Best of” awards that are displayed in addition to all their positive reviews I felt like the company would be a good candidate to work with on my project. The morning of March 15th I received an email from the office manager that I needed to call into the office to schedule an appointment. I completed the form for someone to contact ME. If I wanted to call into the office to schedule I would have never filled out the form. I would have just called to begin with. Defeats the purpose of the form if you make everyone just call you. Less than an hour later I received yet another email from the Office Manager. In this email I believe she was attempting to forward my website inquiry to a member of her team and instead emailed me again. The email was “ This is in (my location) if you want to reach out via email to quote.” I followed up with an email to her pointing out that she had emailed me in error. I let her know I would be waiting for the person to contact me when they were able. I have not heard from anyone since. No one ever contacted me and she never responded. Her emailing was very unprofessional and made it seem like my job inquiry was of little importance because it was “if you want to reach out” like just an optional thing to do. I’ve waited a few weeks now before leaving the review as I understand the company’s line of work is really busy currently. I wanted to see if someone would be like hey we dropped the ball. But no one even followed up to say “we can or can’t take your project.” The lack of professionalism from the office manager and no one following up with me at all is very unfortunate. I was hoping for better from the company and looking forward to talks or the opportunity to work with them. I’m glad everyone loves their quality of work. I wish I had gotten that far.

When looking for a contractor, I asked friends for recommendations and also checked the google reviews. I saw a few negative reviews on-line that seemed more like miscommunications than real complaints so we took a chance and were very happy that we did. Our projects have all been completed to our satisfaction, on budget and before the expected completion dates.
The people from Advantage were all super friendly and very skilled. Sean (owner) is very high energy which may be off-putting to some but he really has an eye for detail and turned out to be a pleasure to work with.
John- Our project manager extraordinaire: John kept us apprised of next steps, addressed any concerns and checked in regularly. All important aspects in a large-scale renovation and he eased our minds.
Robbie and Ryan: our hard-working hands-on guys: we can’t say enough good things about them. Always pleasant, always professional, and at the end of each day cleaned up the site before leaving.
The roofing team: holy moly!!! I’ve never witnessed a group that could quickly and efficiently strip and replace a large roof and clean up so thoroughly afterward. Our neighbors were all in awe of this team in action.

Sean and his team were great! When they first came to remodel my kitchen and bathroom, Sean was so helpful in giving me advice on how to proceed with everything. They took down a wall in the kitchen, installed new drywall, new cabinets/countertops and lighting in the kitchen and dining room and installed flooring throughout my downstairs as well as taking out a bathtub and putting in a stand up shower, vanity and flooring in my bathroom. As a first time remodeler I had no idea what I was doing but Sean and his team guided me through the entire process and I and I am thrilled with the results. I recently had them come back to put in a tile backsplash in the kitchen and painting in my living room, dining room, stairway, and bathroom. Jeremiah did a fabulous job painting and Charles did a great job on the backsplash. I am very pleased with all the services Advantage Home Contracting has provided for me and will use them again when I need work done!

We had a great experience with Advantage, helping us finish off a playroom for our kids (inc. framing, insulation, drywall, subfloor, windows, lighting, duct work, electrical, etc). They did excellent work, even when they ran into unforeseen challenges, and were willing to work with us on our budget from the beginning. Very friendly too!

We have used this company on many occasions. They are fast, friendly, and efficient. They have helped us with appliance installation, door repairs, blind hanging, and even prevention of birds coming in!! Highly recommend this team of professionals.

We had a master bath remodel from demolition to finished room. There were a number of questions that we worked out on the spot, with plenty of discussion with the main workman. It was all very professional. And flexibility was key. I always knew when someone was coming and the schedule was firm for the most part, as was the price quoted. I had a couple issues after the project was competed and Advantage was on the spot immediately. And, as with most projects, things came up long after completion and those were handled as well. I was pleased that most of the work was done by Advantage employees. I did not use the design service that is offered.

I contacted Sean (owner) of Advantage to get an estimate on re-doing our deck and extending it to make it slightly larger. In addition to that I was looking for a quote to install a sliding door and put pavers on the lower level. I received quotes from two other companies but felt that Sean's pricing was fair and transparent and moved forward with Advantage. After tearing out our old deck it was discovered that our rear wall had a significant amount of wood rot. The entire team went over the damage and alerted Sean right away so we could come up with a plan. Despite it being completely unforeseen, the work was done within a day, and I feel confidently that our house is now in excellent shape! The deck was finished flawlessly and we have already been enjoying it daily, even in the winter.

The team to install the pavers were incredibly talented, they worked with a difficult gradient. The final product is stunning. I felt that my preferences and concerns were heard and respected, and I appreciated the transparency in pricing. Sean and his team want you to be happy with the work done, and will do everything in their power to ensure a beautiful final product. My only suggestion in working with Advantage would be to work with Better Living in acquiring the materials instead of Lowes. Our decking material purchased from Better Living was delivered without an issue, however we tried to adjust our budget and order items from Lowes for other parts of the project. Not only did some items arrive broken, but Lowes lost our order within the store multiple times, leading to wasted hours of the Advantage team waiting for them to retrieve the materials. If you do go with Lowe's make sure to call ahead the day before so they are prepared for the order pickup! Thanks Sean, Robbie, and Micah (and teams!)!

Advantage has taken care of a wide variety of jobs over the years at my primary residence, as well as a rental property. Tony and company are reliable, professional, do good work and are very responsive. Pricing has been clear and fair. I use their services for any jobs I can't do myself (or don't feel like doing).

Update (February 16): Having hired an independent home inspector we were informed of several additional major problems with the basement that will likely cost several thousand dollars to have redone properly.
****Anyone reading this who has had issues with Advantage should file a report with the DPOR. Due to our filing , the DPOR gave Advantage a warning, if they are found to be in violation again they will likely lose their license.****
If you hired Advantage and think they did a good job, I recommend hiring a professional home inspector look over the work they completed, it likely won't take a fine tooth comb.
In our research and efforts we also uncovered several unsavory aspects of Sean (the owners) character, to include dishonesty, manipulative efforts and a prior history that would have me uncomfortable leaving him around minors...
This company DOES hire subcontractors, contrary to the claim on their website. I have also met with several former employees who had choice words about their employment with Advantage

Original Post: I am extremely disappointed and disgusted by the operation of this company.
My partner hired Advantage to finish her basement. Despite her paying exorbitantly more than the square footage of her basement warranted, Advantage left a mess on site, and left several areas of the basement that they had worked on extremely unsatisfactorily. Improperly hung doors (of the 5 they installed, one works), studs are not plumb, sloppy caulk lines, floating sections of flooring, floor improperly assembled, holes in the wall, unpainted and unfinished sections of wall, etc (there’s a lot). There is one part of the basement that she requested be finished that never was, though it’s in the contract, and another part under the stairs that was finished without her requesting but still being billed for time and materials (not to mention the poor quality of how they finished it).
When we asked the project manager John to return to the site to go over the discrepancies he came with an extremely rude and inappropriate attitude. I was there to support my partner and was shocked that she had hired a bully to build her basement. He acted not only extremely disrespectful and condescending towards me, but to her, the homeowner and client
In calling the owner of the company, Sean, we were told that he would have a crew out first thing to fix the problems that had been noted...
Some of those problems were “fixed” with a cover up of paint, the majority of issues were not even touched.
I have done similar projects to these in a DIY capacity. Though I would not consider myself an expert or professional I know what a quality job looks like, this was not one.
I have documented in pictures all of these problems and hope anyone reading this would look at them and consider the implications of quality control... An entire basement is expensive to have redone.
What my partner paid should have gotten her a luxury basement and increase in house value What she got instead was a long-standing headache and stress that cost more than the value it will ever add. I shudder to think of how many other folks have been conned or bullied by this company.

The workers were so nice and professional and did just a great job. I have had countless contractors not show up to either do the estimate or do the work so it was nice dealing with someone who respects my time.

John and his team listened to our vision and completed our remodel on budget and ahead of schedule. Very pleased with the communication and quality of the work. Would definitely recommend.

I had a wonderful experience working with Advantage Home Contracting on an emergency job where they identified a leak under my kitchen flooring, repaired the leak, and replaced the flooring. Their work was quick, clean, and professional. They were incredibly responsive in their communication, helpful in their suggestions and cost-cutting recommendations, and overall were a pleasure to work with!

We heard of this company through a mailer in our Post Box a while back! Since then, this construction company has done 2 separate projects (staining one deck & building a second custom deck) through their Turtle Decks division, for us and we have been absolutely impressed with work! We have been 100% satisfied!

All our friends, including other builders and engineers, who have visited our home has also been impressed by the workmanship as well!

The pricing was comparatively fair and competitive!

The employees that worked on our projects were absolutely fantastic. They served with the highest integrity and effort.

Based on our personal experience, I highly recommend Advantage Home Contracting and Turtle Decks!

I was so excited to work with this company as the designer had talked a big game for our kitchen. They were also half the price of other contractors/designers I had bid on the project (I found out why later). Work started ahead of schedule but that was one of the last positive aspects. Many items were verbally said they would be taken care of but of course when the time came they were not in the contract, cost more money, and I was never given a price ahead of time. They installed a brand new floor before doing any drywall work, did not cover the floor, and got drywall mud all over my brand new expensive floor. The same kid who did the drywall also accidentally turned on a burner on my range and left it on (it was glowing red when I came home). They say they never use subcontractors and yet had a subcontracted plumber on my job who did not do anything right (I had to fix almost all of his screw ups) and buried a LIVE wire behind my dishwasher. The workers were constantly bouncing from job to job often only spending an hour or two on my project per day. I had to constantly check bills as they came in as often there were mathematical errors and discrepancies on the hours worked on my job (I was home for most of the project and would see charges on days that they were supposed to work and never showed up). The owner of the company, Sean, came by the project once to see what was taking his crew so long. He was very rude to myself and to his crew in front of me. I asked that he not come on to my property again. For additional work I was given outrageous quotes that I was easily able to find other skilled contractors willing to do at half the cost. Many of my cabinet doors came damaged, took a long time to replace, and Better Living had to come out several times to address issues on their very expensive cabinets (some of which I am still not happy with but don't want to deal with it anymore). While the end product does look good, it is still incomplete do to miscommunications in the contract, and I am left never wanting to deal with this company again and very leary of contractors. The name of the company should be Take Advantage Of!

We have used Advantage for multiple projects including a master bathroom remodel, prepping a home for sale, and miscellaneous small items. Working with Sean and Tony has been a pleasure every time. Every. Single. Time. Their crews are professional, efficient, courteous, and flexible. I’ll be using them again and again.

Advantage Home Contracting provided an estimate that they kept to, and provided personnel that delivered an excellent fence and gate. The lead installer worked with me on design and details. We ended with a fence that was built well and pleasing to look at. I definitely recommend this handyman service.

Staff is extremely friendly however the quality of the work was very poor. They told me they could match the texture of the ceiling for a repair and then could not but "did their best". It looks horrible and there was really nothing to do at that point unless I "wanted to replace the whole ceiling". (Paying for both services which was already over $900 for the repair only.). The repair is also noticeably uneven with the rest of the ceiling. I wish they would have just said no we can't match that; you're best bet will be to replace the whole ceiling. A new company is now replacing the ceiling.

I wonder how "Brit Pop" knows friends and family are posting positive reviews?
This is a decent business run by a decent guy, who I have met. Hanging a light fixture is a job hard to estimate over the phone and any figures given are usually just guesses. I'll bet there were complications that customer either didn't know about or failed to mention when calling on the phone.

This company was quick to respond. However, since they were not able to do service in Madison, I asked if he might have a referral for another company in this area. It then became all about money. and he/she would not refer me to anyone. EXTREMELY RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. I am not the type to write bad reviews, but this really set me off. I will make sure to let everyone I know not to use your services. All you had to do was be courteous and let me know that you could not do remodels in my area...

Reliable Handyman and Quality Work! Not the cheapest estimate I received, but the technicians were friendly and professional. The office staff is also wonderfully helpful. I highly recommend.
