We needed to replace an old deck. Our deck was large and we wanted to make the deck half the size and add a patio as well. We had several contractors come and talk about what we wanted and give us bids. Acumen promptly responded with a personal visit and multiple solutions to our situation. Peter Schneider, the salesman, answered every question we had. He told us about the quality of their work, timing of the job, materials to be used and this was spot on. The work crews were professional, courteous, friendly, timely and cleaned up the job site at the end of each day. They measured and re-measured before cutting. We are extremely pleased with how the deck and patio turned out. The quality of the construction was superior to how our old deck was constructed. Because the new deck was smaller, part of our siding had to be replaced. The color of our siding was no longer being made but they were able to get siding that matched really well. They did a fantastic job and we highly recommend them.

Would like to start with how happy we are with the work that Acumen Renovations did with our deck and patio. From the beginning with Peter coming out to talk options with us, to the quick removal of the old deck, to the building of our vision for our deck it was a great experience. There was no pressure put on and it was just a great experience from start to finish. We had an unexpected delay during the process with irrigation lines needing to be moved with delayed the whole project but the team was respectful and patient as I tried to get the situation resolved. When our deck needed replacement we decided to upgrade our outdoor space with the addition of a covered deck. We had 4 contractors bid the project. We selected Acumen Renovations for their integrity, quality of craftsmanship and their professionalism demonstrated to us during the bidding process. Pete Schneider, our first point of contact with Acumen, would not continue the bidding process until we had engineered drawings to ensure the new project was structurally safe and would pass the city’s inspection process. Pete was our point of contact during the construction. He was responsive to our phone calls and/or texts. The construction crew was organized, efficient, so very skilled and maintained a clean work site. We are more than pleased with the outcome and highly recommend Acumen Renovations.

I hired Acumen Renovations to replace my deck with composite decking and to do the same on the two sets of stairs that lead up to my front door. Both were big projects, and I couldn't be happier with the quality of the work! I was surprised that Pete got back to me the same day I requested a bid as several other companies never even bothered to call me back. He came to the house the next day to provide an in-person bid/consultation. Then, after I hired them and the work began, he organized all of the communication, addressed any concerns I had, and literally acted like a personal assistant throughout the process which I greatly appreciated. Angel is a master carpenter and runs a great crew too! If you're looking to hire a small, local company for home renovations I cannot give you a single reason to not consider Acumen Renovations. I will definitely use them again!

Acumen Renovations did an excellent job installing the screens and screen doors for my screen porch. I’ve seen shoddy screen installations in my neighborhood, so I knew I wanted a professional installation for my porch. The Screeneze product is outstanding! I highly recommend Acumen for screen installations.

Acumen renovations did a amazing job on our whole house renovation. Communication through the seven month process was outstanding. The crew was prompt, professional and tidy they went above and beyond to make sure everything was meeting our expectations. Their expertise for their craft is evident! Our 34 year old home is built on a steep and wood lot with limited access to the back yard, and when it was time to replace our rotten deck, we invited 6 companies to give us bids. Our deck is about 23 off the ground! Only two companies were brave enough to even offer us a bid, and Acumen won the contract. Their price was definitely not cheap, but this was a very challenging job. We are thrilled with the outcome and expect our new deck to last longer than WE will! The guys with Acument were VERY helpful in the planning process, very professional and prompt, and they worked great with the city of Shawnee building inspector. I don't know if the photos here will give you the idea, but take a look.

Acumen Renovations screened our covered deck and added a screen door. Initial process to get an estimate was very easy and informative. Estimate was provided quickly and options provided to ensure it met our financial needs. The plan to start was communicated as early as possible and the work was completed in a reasonable time and done professionally. Materials used feel to be superior to any other screened decks I have experienced. Everyone who worked on the project was friendly and professional. The project from estimation to completion was done before my expectations.

We have loved having a covered and screened deck and it has basically added an extra room to our house!

Acumen Renovations completed a window, sliding door, and siding replacement on a 35 unit apartment complex that required 84 windows and 24 sliding doors. Acumen quoted the job and worked with us to plan the job and communicate the start date to the tenants. The project went smoothly and the few times that Acumen ran into unexpected issues, those issues were communicated immediately, a resolution determined quickly, and the project continued forward. Acumen worked well with our maintenance team and the tenants. Working with Acumen simplified the project because they handled the windows, doors, and siding. They are a one stop shop. We are in the early stages of a second project with Acumen. I would feel confident recommending them for any project, large or small.

Acumen is an excellent company, great workmanship, very prompt, they keep you informed and have great customer service and communications. We liked they so much we put them to work on my sister-in-laws home as well.

The Acumen guys replaced our old worn out deck with a great looking new one. They were courteous and responsive to all of our concerns through the whole process. Have already recommended them a couple of times and will do so again.

They replaced both bedroom windows for me. The communication earns a ten out of ten. The follow up before, during, and even after the install was completed. They called to make sure I did not have any issues after the install! This was even after they had been paid! The work quality I would also rate as a ten. They went above and beyond what was required. Very professional! I would absolutely hire them again.

These folks are super trustworthy! I hired them to replace the posts on my front porch. They acquired the materials and drove out to Lawrence, but on second inspection decided my post were holding strong and it wouldn't be worth my money to replace them. I took up a couple hours of their time (they even caulked my porch post!) and wouldn't take any money. I'm amazed. Thanks fellas!

Great experience with the Acumen team. Installed a Screeneze system on my back porch with door and hinged bottom panels for access and cleaning. The team was on time, worked long hours through very hot days, and were very communicative via email and phone throughout the project. The Screeneze system is more durable than your average screen system, looks great, are backed by a 10 year warranty, and the team installed them flawlessly.

This is the second time I've hired Acumen to do work on my home. When I needed siding replaced prior to painting this summer, I didn't think twice about who I wanted to do the work. Once again, the attention to detail and the quality of the work Acumen performs is exceptional and can't be beat. I've had really bad siding replacement done in spots before by other companies. Never again if I need siding replaced will I hire a contractor who is not properly trained to install lap siding. Josh and his crew are outstanding craftsmen. I contacted Acumen on line via an email response link. That same day I got a call back. The review and bid on my deck project was very pleasant and encouraging. Upon choosing Acumen we were scheduled for eight weeks out with the understanding if scheduling allowed it could be sooner. It was less than two weeks later when we got a call to ask if we wanted to do our project the following Monday. It started on time and all the staff on site were thoughtful and considerate throughout. It finished on time with only rain showers to slow up progress. So very pleased with the products they helped us choose. And both owners were on site parts of both days. Deck now looks amazing! I would highly recommend them for any project.

I wanted the walls around the stairs torn down to open up my kitchen to my living room. There was also a ton of the old wood paneling around it. They got the walls down, wood paneling removed, created a nice smooth surface, and left a beautiful open flow from my kitchen to living room. I will continue to call Acumen for any work I need on my home!

Todd and his team did a wonderful job on our new pergola. Todd was very easy to communicate with, kept us up to date, and did what he said he was going to do. They arrived on time and did quality work. I would have no hesitation using Todd again for our next project.

We love our master bathroom and master suite Acumen did for us. Such great craftsmanship. We knew we were going to use high end material and wanted a company that would deliver a high end finished product. From the heated floor installation to the laying of the travertine tile, it was all done to perfection. We are going to use them to remodel our basement next year. I’m not sure there is another company that delivers this good of a finished product.

Seriously, Acumen Renovations did an amazing job on my house.

Cleanliness - Every night they would tidy up. Nothing was left in the yard and there was no debris from day to day. When they were finished, they left the yard and all work areas pristine. I have NEVER had a crew keep everything this tight.

Quality - I have an older house that needed a lot of work. There were issues that they encountered and I was worried that the solution would be to just hide it under siding. That was never the case. They went above and beyond in fixing the problem patches on the house and making sure the job was done 100% right.

Cost - Acumen was the best bang for my buck I could find. At Josh's suggestion I created bid sheet so that everyone was bidding on the same thing. There was no comparison!

Professional - Josh came out and bid the house. He also gave me a lot of really great advice on the project that a lot of the time was probably detrimental to him increasing his bid price. The whole way I really felt like we were doing the RIGHT thing for the house. I never felt up sold or like we were doing it the cheap way.

Acumen recently replaced my decrepit interior and exterior front doors. The doors are beautiful ! And their quality construction and dead bolts add a layer of security.
I picked Acumen randomly out of the phone book as I was desperate to have a large hole in my deck repaired. Josh inspected the deck and ,while he was here, we discussed other renovations that were needed on the house. I received product information, estimates, and possible timing for the job to be performed in a timely manner. All my dumb old lady questions were answered courteously.
