We got our roof and gutter replace Oct 2025. I wanted to wait to write this review to ensure it was authentic.

I reached out in September and requested a qoute. Their qoute wasn't lower than other roofing companies in the area; however, what my husband and I appreciated was their honestly. James came over with his drone to inspect our roof. We wanted to address an area that once had a leak. After inspecting the roof, he suggested we replace the gutter which was on our to do list but we were putting it off. We had various questions which were answered promptly. James invited us to the shop to show us the products (roofing material, drain line covers, etc.) and explain to us the overall step/process with past project photos. Overall, it was a great learning experience.

We had on-going plumbing & HVAC work which added complications because the roofing work needed to align with our HVAC contractor. It was raining a lot during this time so we couldn't get the roof and gutter done asap. There were also some mix up with scheduling as well which could have been problematic. However, when I asked them to schedule us in because we had travel plans in November, UBL accomodated our requests immediately.

They had great workers who reassured us everything would be done quickly. A bonus was hearing them sing backstreet boys on the roof. They were cracking jokes and singing Was interesting to hear/watch as everyone was happy and cheerful. Any home improvement can be stressful but knowing the crew who worked on our roof enjoyed doing their job, made everything less stressful.

The work was completed in 1.5 days. Everything looked great, better than I expected. Was done right before all the storms and held together perfectly.

Would I recommend UBL? YES! It's a newer company but that doesn't mean the service/experience is mediocre/less. I really like that the owner, James, was personally working on our roof. He doesn't just offload the tasks to his crews. Chris and Claud were great too interms of coordination.

Professional, Efficient and Great work. For context, we had a leak. Water was seeping into our home and we couldn't figure out where the water was coming from. We had other roofers come, theorize, and did some work, but they never solved the problem.

UBL Roofing came to our home, thoroughly investigated, and was able to determine where the water was coming in using their expertise and technology. They showed us images of where the water was coming in, and explained what was needed to fix the problem.

Their process for the scheduling, prep, and work was the most efficient I had ever experience. From parking permits, to the day of and to clean up.

Highly recommend you use them if you have any roofing issues!

James and his team fixed an issue I had with newer roof the old company refused to fix. His team was on time, efficient, detail oriented and fixed the issue in one day. Can’t go wrong with these guys.

Do not look further for a roofer. James and his team are professional, reasonable, responsive and responsible. There are too many roofing companies that try and take advantage of you, but UBL doesn't. They do quality work, making sure everything was cleaned up. I couldn't recommend them enough.

James and the UBL team stood out to us because of how thorough they were in the assessment of the roof/siding, taking significant time to discuss it with us, and presented options based on budget and projected roof life. Very realistic and honest approach and also very particular about material and quality standards. A huge team showed up, friendly and ready to work. Our family has used UBL roofing for multiple roof projects, including installing new doors on my roof deck and for some repairs to our shingle roof. I have been so impressed with the quality of their work and their excellent communication. Right away I could tell they were unusually good because James and Claudia care deeply about explaining exactly what they were doing and how it would solve the problem. You never feel rushed. They call you back right away if you have a question or need some further assistance. You know you are in excellent hands, and the results have been just great. James and his team were great. James did a nice job of explaining everything they would do and then proceeded to show us everything they said they would do with pictures of the before and after. I would use UBL again, they are honest and have great customer service. We requested a quote almost three months ago, and they worked with us as we moved into our house to move the work date and stood by their price. James and Claudia are great to work with.

We had a huge tree limb land on our roof during the last storm. The crew came quickly, consulted with my neighbors to ensure their cars weren’t damaged and then removed the limb and repaired the roof. They cleaned up everything including the leaves that fell in my neighbors driveway! The even took away the limbs that my husband cut up that were by the curb. I’ve used them a few times and they always provide great service. Highly recommend

Extremely unprofessional services. My HOA wanted to use UBL roofing because they were a local roofing company. However, selecting this company for our roof repair was a big mistake and an epic fail. From the high pressure sales tactics of James and Claudia to the unprofessional services, this was not a good experience. Our HOA learned the hard way by falling for a very convincing sales pitch and the too good to be true cheaper price. They were the lowest of all three repair quotes that we received and the board jumped on it.
The biggest problem was in the quality of workmanship. There so called team are laborers, not experienced roofers. I wish we would have known this before we signed a contract. To add insult to injury, when their repair did not work, they were unbothered by this and insisted we needed a full roof replacement.
Homeowners and HOA's beware of this company's gimmick of buying back roof repairs to be applied to a new full roof replacement. UBL Roofing tried to charge significantly more than any other quote we received for full roof replacement. They were actually not buying back the repair at all and were actually overcharging us. We had another company come to fix UBL's work. The repair work the new company performed was superior and cheaper. We did not have to have a full roof replacement and I am so glad that we did not take them at their word and explored other options. This was a complete money grab on UBL's part and proved to us that this company was not trustworthy.
If you were on the fence about choosing UBL Roofing, I hope I saved you from making the mistake that my HOA made. I am not a person who writes reviews, but I felt this one was not only necessary, but long overdue. I wish the board and I thoroughly read their company's reviews. We actually just looked at the newest, but should have looked at the lowest. This company has a slew of bad reviews and I even question the legitimacy of the good ones. My HOA nor I would never use this company again. Overall, this was a bad experience and you should avoid this unethical company at all costs.

I had the pleasure of meeting James the owner and had Chris and Ron working on a repair to my roof flashing that another company did. James did a great job in looking things over and asking them to go above and beyond what was asked. Very happy with their service and know who to call again if needed.

The entire UBL Roofing family deserves total recognition. My family and I run P&K Market on Newark ave. Last month the insurance company came out and gave us a very short window to get the roof inspected and if necessary repaired. Claudia explained in detail about the process from step one to the last. James and his team did the inspection and then he also explained in detail the issues that needed immediate attention.
This company is an absolute necessity and essential if you want want a business that cares about the community. I truly believe their goal is for their customers, at the end of the day, to not go to bed worrying if they overpaid, were duped, or worry they didn’t get the best quality of work.

I love UBL roofing! James and Claudia, and all their team members, are the best. They have a passion for two things - roofs and customer service. We had a full roof removal and replacement and skylight installation last year. Every time it rains I thank UBL for my leak free home. We recently requested our annual inspection and they came out quickly and provided documentation of the condition of the roof for our reassurance, and for home insurance purposes. Working with them is always a pleasure and they truly care about their work product and customers. I could not recommend them more!

Had an excellent experience with UBL roofing. James and Claudia and Sherry were great with updated emails regarding the work. The workers Gregory and Ron came promptly at 8 and did not stop working till 5pm. They got it done in one day. respectful of my home as they Gregory removed his shoes that had tar on them so as to not track any of it in my house. Very Pleased.

Claudia & James of UBL Roofing are extremely communicative, transparent, and most importantly they care about doing things right. I greatly appreciated that they also took the time to educate us on materials and why certain things needed to be done or not (such as a water test), and they will take their time with you on the phone as well (one call lasting for well over 30-40+ minutes discussing the work). They provided several options when budget was a factor, and got the work done quickly. Since then, our roof has held up to two terrible storms: one on December 10th (40-50+ mph winds and heavy rain) and another December 17th-18th (50+ mph winds and heavy rain). I highly recommend using UBL Roofing. We plan on using them for maintenance going forward because of how happy we are with their work.

The roof issue persisted for 5 months, starting as a small leak and spreading. Despite multiple attempts by another roofing company to fix it, the problem persisted. UBL was a game-changer. Claudia's initial assessment was direct and transparent, setting a different tone from the start. Their commitment to resolving the issue was evident, and James and his team's meticulous work reflected that commitment. They were not only easy to collaborate with but also demonstrated trustworthiness. Since they've completed the job we've had two storms, including a major one, and there hasn't been any water infiltration. Finally feeling assured that the roof is genuinely repaired is a massive relief. Their warranty further solidifies our confidence that they'll address any future issues promptly.

We had leakage issues coming from the roof into one of the units of our condo building that were not fixed properly by the previous contractor. We couldn't be more pleased with the work UBL did on our house. We had a tricky project for them; to make a long story short we needed a specialist who could repair damaged historic millwork around the roofline of our house. An already tricky project (with the height and amount of damage) was made more difficult by the fact that brand-new siding, windows, and masonry had already been installed below the damaged area by another crew. It was difficult to find anyone who would take on the project. UBL got back to us promptly and provided a detailed estimate, along with several consultations before work began to iron out the details. When it came time to execute they delivered. Permits were instant, they showed up on time, they protected the site, and they completed the main roofline within 7 days. The creative decisions along the way were a lot of fun and James, Kamil, and the team were nothing but helpful, going above and beyond to repair missing elements and intricate details with a sensitivity we were delightfully surprised by. It was a breath of fresh air to work with people who not only know how to do the job to a high level, but enjoy doing it, and who share your vision for the project.

Besides the cornice restoration, they reshingled two secondary roofs and did various other repairs to surrounding plywood and rubber connections. James also gave us a detailed inspection of our main flat roof while he was on-site, complete with video, which was very much appreciated. (We had had several other contractors claim the flat roof was fine, but we were able to clearly see on video that it wasn't). We ended up doing an aluminum coating to help us extend the lifespan along with miscellaneous repairs to the rubber membrane and venting.

I can’t recommend them enough, especially for historic work where a creative eye and a problem-solving spirit are critical. We'll definitely be continuing to work with these guys for anything roofing-related.

I was in a pinch and needed work done, and James and his staff moved Heaven and earth to get technicians on my roof asap. The price, service, and quality were great and what more can you ask for?!

Not all heroes wear capes. In James, Claudia, ans their teams' instance, I'd assume that is an OSHA issue or safety issue. Either way, I highly recommend them.

I couldn't be more pleased with UBL. I had one firm tell me I needed an entire new roof, but UBL determined that we could do repairs. They follow best practices and are professional and sophisticated in figuring out what needs to be done. James and his team from UBL did outstanding work repairing 4 balconies on our home that were leaking water into our interior. They came as planned and finished all the work on time. I contacted James in the summer of 2022 as my recently purchased new construction (2020) home had a random leak. I had multiple roofing companies and GCs come in to check it out and they had variety of solutions , from $600 silicone patching to $3000 protective paint … then James came, spent an hour on the roof and told me I needed a FULL roof repair ( over 30k!)

I was lost for words as no one seemed to think it was a serious problem yet no one really took the time to inspect and explain to me what was wrong. I had full faith in James and worked with Claudia to get creative on the financing as this was over 20k more expensive then any other option,

I am BEYOND glad I trusted James, when him and the guys started working on the roof, it had leaks everywhere, it was duck tapped, had rotten wood all throughout the roof… had I “patched” it, it would of collapsed in the future.

My family and I live in Bayonne NJ. We’ve recently had squirrels invade our home through the roof vent. We reached out to James Ubl and he was quick to come over and put his drone in the air and pin point where they were entering from. The next day he sent over the rockstar team of Greg and Ron. These guys were awesome. They removed the old vent and replaced it with a heavy duty one. They also repaired other possible points of entry to play it safe. They were both very easy to talk to and took pictures of before ,during ,and after. They both worked super clean and were fast considering all the work they did. I recently hired UBL Roofing Company to fix a leak in my roof, and I must say it was a complete disappointment. Not only did James fail to address the issue properly the first time, but when I reached out to therm about the persistent leak, they completely ignored me.

At first, I didn't think the documentation would be important – but it turned out to be invaluable when we discovered extensive termite damage in our garage roof. Starting from the day of inspection to the day they finished up my roof repairs, James listened to all of my concerns, gave his best suggestions and then went above and beyond to help solve all of my issues. Contacted this company weeks ago and they promised to come out and give an estimate for a leaking skylight within a few days. There was no follow up or returned calls for weeks. Although Claudia was very kind and tried to assist me in rectifying this error but unfortunately James' tone and lack of customer service made me feel like I was being spoken at and not to. Don't waste your time and energy if you need things done in a timely manner or with decent customer service.

Update as of 6/13/23: As per the owners response, I appreciate the verification that my claims were accurate. Be better and do better.

We called Ubl Roofing after a big rainstorm resulted in water pouring through our ceiling and we couldn’t be happier.

James, Claudia and the crew run an incredibly friendly and professional operation, are clearly passionate about roofing and their work speaks for itself. We had some major issues with leaks and water ingress in our old roof and James was able to visit and spec out the work same day. He was able to pinpoint exactly where the leaks were occurring and where water was sitting within our structure, as well as identify some extra issues, such as damp developing in our roof space that needed addressing.

Fair to say these guys know what they’re doing and when the scheduled day arrived, James, Kamil and Gregory got through all the work in a single visit, addressed some extra issues on the fly and left the place spotless when they were done. Claudia handled everything back in the office (she also designs the merch!) to ensure the entire job ran smoothly and on schedule. Everything was above and beyond.

We’re now completely watertight and don’t have to nervously look at the ceiling every time it rains! Give these guys a call, you won’t regret it.

This company was professional and quick. They were able to identify the problems on my roof quickly with the use of a drone, and they were able to fix the problems within two days. They also sent me pictures of the work done. Great service

I worked with UBL Roofing for a roof and exterior inspection on a home we had recently purchased in Jersey City. The timeline was tight (30 day close) and they (James & Claudia) moved very quickly. The roof inspection report was 33 pages long with 107 pictures explaining the findings, drone footage and thermal imaging - the report was extremely thorough. The cost was higher than other quotes for inspection, but was worth the price. I was able to secure a significant amount of credit upon close and our family is so grateful for UBL roofing's inspection. There was active water intrusion that we did not see with our eyes, but was happening behind the walls. I would highly recommend UBL for roof inspections as well as roof and siding work. They are professional, friendly and accommodating with scheduling and helping me understand the issues & terminology. This was a stressful time as new homebuyers, but Claudia and James earned our trust by explaining things elegantly and with love.

Fantastic company. They carefully explain what they are going to do so you understand the job, then complete within the time and amount they quoted. In my case, they were fixing a problem created by a previous owner. I wasn't excited to get the work done, but UBL made the process as painless as possible. We had an excellent experience working with UBL Roofing.The craftsmanship of every single step of the installation is well documented with photography that I can see on the web. They came up with a smart solution for a tricky drainage situation where the roof of my bay window meets the roof over my front porch. Also they made skilled use of a drone so I could inspect the condition of my roof overall, looking for possible future problems I need to stay on top of.

Team Ubl's work is exceptional. They ripped and replaced the roof on our Jersey City brownstone within a day, and were meticulous in cleaning everything they came in contact with. We are so thankful that we found UBL after a long, exhausting journey with other roofers. The first contractor we contacted took a large deposit and never showed up. Another roofer painted a silver coating all over the roof and it still leaked. We contacted another big name roofing company a few times, they came out and then soon ghosted us because the job wasn't significant enough for them. We were beyond frustrated, and became super paranoid when the forecast called for rain. UBL roofing saved us. James utilizes impressive tools to pinpoint the problem areas and has an approach that was different from the other contractors. In less than three days, they repaired our roof. No leaks and the buckets were put away. UBL is a new company with a ton of past work experience, James is a roof surgeon, and his staff were just lovely to work with. Please do not waste your time and money on other contractors like we did.

James is extremely knowledgeable and takes a lot of pride in his work. He doesn't complete a job and move on, James makes a relationship with the tenants and building taking ownership of his work. He will come back and check on any concerns, help devise short term plans, medium to long term maintenance plans, as well as help plan for any potential long term repairs.

Every repair has before and after pictures/videos and come with an explanation of why the area was problematic and how it will be addressed.

As new homeowners we did not really know what we were getting into with projects at our home. We knew we wanted to work with a contractor we felt comfortable with and create a plan. So, it is safe to say I know a thing or two about contractors, construction management, general conditions and expectations for customer satisfaction. Let me tell you about UBL Roofing, LLC, lead by James and Claudia. Not only are they (James and Claudia) the most delightful people to work with... they are also phenomenally technical, professional and family oriented. When I met them the first thing they told me was that I would be treated like family. They said to me: “…you are family…” and they meant it. I have to tell you … by the time the job was completed I was family. They took an old, dull, decrepit center hall skylight that was most likely part of the an original early 1900’s installation, and which, I had covered with a new roof and "time warped" it into a modern designed skylight with great a “light-well” which has enhanced my 3rd floor center hall lighting. The resulting work is simply phenomenal. The craftmanship and care their team displayed was spectacular and my family could not be happier. Even our dog loves the additional light in "his space" … lol. Additionally, while doing the installation UBL spotted several issues with my new roof and made some recommendations for the future. The IG messages you’re referring to were from October of 2021, so your Hurricane Ida reference doesn’t make sense. Also there’s was a number of phone calls and texts to James chasing to be scheduled. Great videos, horrible followup. Tried for months to get the “office” to schedule me. Glad I took my money somewhere else, I can just imagine how long it would take to get a service call.

We used James ' service a few months ago and we have been 100% satisfied with the job he performed on our roof.. James was extremely responsive, and was even able to perform the job ahead of schedule. His crew showed up on time and worked diligently. I would definitely recommend his company to anyone.
Update: almost one year later, no issues to report, we used James services for cleaning gutters maintenance. Very satisfied of the service for the value.

James and his crew did a great job repairing and updating our existing metal awning. They’re very dependable and don’t require a lot of oversight. Will definitely do business with them again!
