True North Roofing, LLC

I was sincerely hoping to have a better experience with this company as they were sold to me as a "woman owned business" on Minnesota Public Radio. I waited over 2 weeks (due to rain es explained by Sarah) to get an estimate for a small job at my home. I needed one shingle reattached and a piece of metal covering wood on my gable replaced, approximately 16' of custom shaped metal.

Jose came to my home to do an inspection in order to give me a quote. He was amazing. Kind, thoughtful, communicative. He even reattached my shingle while he was up there. After his inspection, I received a quote for over $1800. I reached out to the folks at True North and stated that I felt this quote was a bit high for what I knew was only going to be an hour worth of labor. It was explained to me by Kim that the reason why was that it necessitated them purchasing materials and that it was on the second story. I asked if there was any wiggle room on the quote since it was coming out of pocket and not processing through insurance. The quote included disposal of debris/old materials. I offered to take care of this myself and asked for a revised quote at which point Sarah, who had been my contact, and Kim, my second contact, basically ghosted me. I did not even receive a revised quote without the disposal.

I would say that overall, my customer experience was awful. Meanwhile, Jose deserves a raise as the only person I had a positive experience with. Go figure the dude who goes up on the roof is the only one who gives me good vibes.

I have had the job completed by 1st Team Exteriors. They did a fabulous job at 1/3 the cost. My contact there had a quote to me within hours, which included him going up on the roof in the rain. The work was completed the next day and was very well done.

I had a great experience with True North Roofing on my siding project this spring. Chelsea answered all my questions, found the perfect color for the house, made great recommendations, and even set us up with a painter for the brick. I love that this is a local and woman-led company, and the work was completed quickly. I'm so happy with the new look of our house!

Very professional and fast working. They gave us an honest inspection, didn't find anything that needed to be looked at, and provided all of the pictures to confirm. I would recommend them to someone considering roofing work.

Brendan from True North Roofing came out and took a look at my project and gave me an honest opinion and I really appreciate that. I have a very old barn/garage that is in rough shape. He took photos and discussed the project with his team. He then followed up and instead of providing a quote for a new roof, he was honest with me and said it needed a lot of work and it might not be worth it. While I didn't have them work on my project, I will def recommend True North to friends and family.

Roof and partial siding after 8/23 storm. Roofers damaged siding, forgot to install the garage roof. Just over $58k worth of work.

Told my point person both things and they kept managing to forget until I asked for the bill to be adjusted given they hadn't installed the garage roof to which I had to show proof.

When addressing the areas of the dormer the installers had damaged, I was told there was no proof for one aspect and the second they would fix with a $350 discount. Hard pass.

" In this case it was flashing around a window that was not removable without causing issues to the window. We attempted to offer multiple solutions to meet homeowner expectations. The siding was replaced by insurance and not a crew related issue. The garage was schedule and rescheduled again upon homeowner request so they could do to other home improvement projects. Items not related to the storm or install are not the responsibility of True North Roofing."

The flashing was not the big problem here. It was the fact that the install damaged fascia. I've posted the before with the area highlighted, and the after looking like a crumpled soda can.

The roof and partial siding was replaced by the crew from True North on as part of the storm insurance claim. So I have no idea what universe the insurance replacing the siding is from but it's not this one that is for sure. The crew replacing the roof damaged the fascia on my home.

The easy fix, would have been to say -- "we need confirmation that this was cause by us". I provide confirmation. "Okay, we'll send someone over to replace that part, sorry about the damage!" I don't need a discount, the flashing being an issue they didn't cause is absolutely understandable.

That was not how this was handled and as a result I don't want True North doing any further work for me because they handle issues poorly. In response the president of the company said "We get to fulfill our contract to replace your garage roof or you have to pay us that cost even if we don't". And! No direct apologies for how any of this was handled in the two emails I've received focusing on them getting the last $3k.

If you would like a company who lies to you as a homeowner and to other homeowners to make themselves look innocent, please use True North Roofing. If not, find another company.

I would recommend True North Roofing to anyone! The roof turned out amazing, and they were responsive and great communicators. Additionally, four years later when we needed information to remove our PMI and also our insurance company needed proof of the age of our roof, they responded with all the documents I needed within one hour. Such organized and wonderful service!!!!!

Do not use this company. My experience with TrueNorth was very disappointing. It took nearly an entire year to get my roof. The first project manager that was assigned to me was very knowledgeable and helpful, when I could get ahold of them. They ordered the supplies for my roof, but stopped responding to me not long after I paid my 50% down payment. Soon after, the season was over. They would not respond to my emails or texts when I tried to reinitiate communication with the company in the spring. I called the office and was assigned another project manager who was knowledgeable, but rude. She came out and re-assessed my roof and I had to submit my insurance information and paperwork all over again. Shortly after that, she stopped responding to any emails or phone calls for another 3 months. When I finally got my roof installed, it took them another 3 months to send my certificate of completion and invoice. They pulled the permit for installation, but when I called the city 4 months later, TrueNorth had not closed the loop or submitted any of the required paperwork. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Had a positive experience with True North and Tracy Pionek, their representative. The crew that replaced the roof was on time and professional. The work was done in one day. The gutters were installed a week or so later. True North also sent a project leader to inspect, finalize and make sure we were satisfied with the results.
Tracy worked closely with our insurance company and kept us informed along the way. The roof looks great but we were also impressed with the work done before laying a shingle. True North met all expectations.

I just wrapped the process of having my roof, gutters, and window wraps replaced by True North, and I'm happy to leave a great review. Being a relatively new homeowner, this was my first time going through the process of working with my insurance company to complete a big project, and I'm really grateful that I chose to work with True North.

A few reasons:
- First, I called them—they didn't call me. You always hear horror stories about fly-by-night roofing companies who swoop in after a storm to get your business, and then it's a battle to get them to finish the job. This was not my experience at all. They're a local, professional company that cares about getting things done right.
- They're woman-owned, which I appreciate as a queer woman. I trusted them to get the job done and not make things any harder than they need to be, and this was definitely my experience. They showed up when expected, and the right work was done. As simple as it should be.
- My sales rep, Mackinzie, was very accessible, communicative and helpful throughout the entire process. She guided me through everything, step-by-step. This was super helpful as someone unfamiliar with what to expect.
- I did have an issue with the subcontractors who did the work—they broke a storm window on the job and didn't tell me. However, when I found out, I reached out to my rep, and they resolved the issue and replaced the storm window. With renovations and house projects, there will always be surprises, but the most important thing is how they're handled. At the end of the day, they took care of it, and I appreciated that.
- And perhaps most importantly, we're really happy with the end result! The roof, gutters, and wraps look great.

If you need a roof replacement, I'd definitely recommend the folks at True North!

I trusted True North based on their reviews. They were extremely kind and helpful in the planing stages of the project (thanks Linda). However, things quickly changed after True North had the papers signed and money in hand.

True North caused extensive damage to the exterior of my home. After three days of work, I came home to broken siding, severely damaged fascia with large gaps, missing drip edge, and loose shingles. True North did not contact me when the damage occurred, which was surprising. Walking up to my damaged home after work that night after spending thousands of dollars, with not even a heads up from them felt insulting and dismissive, as if my home did not deserve care or a standard of quality.

I have asked True North to come to my home numerous times to inspect the damage. They refuse. I had a third party inspection done that confirmed extensive damage that will potentially let water into my home - True North has ignored my request repeatedly that they fix the damage they caused as shown in the report, instead maintaining that they only repair they will make is to the siding, and even with that will not confirm their responsibility for paying for the damages. In each of my attempts to communicate with them, True North has consistently put words in my mouth, lied, and evaded accountability for their actions.

As a public school teacher with a limited income, it was important for me to find a contractor that would be capable of working on my older home, and who also has respect for regular, working people in this community. True North’s actions have shown me that they are a company willing to take advantage of people with little means for their own profit.

We were looking for a new roof, and saw all the good reviews. They really are the best company. Completely transparent with lots of communication throughout the entire process. Everyone we talked to was very professional, honest, and clear. We worked with Mackinzie, who really was the best. Like others have said, not only did she go up on the roof to inspect it when we called, but she also looked into our attic to take a look at it underneath. She showed us all the pictures of the state of our roof and really helped make the decision easier. Other companies had just people just go up on the roof and tell us that it needed to be replaced with a small handful of pics. But Mackinzie basically gave us a pic of the entirety of our roof, from top to underneath. Kari and the crew, when they did the replacement, were all very good and professional, and very efficient. We stayed out of their way for the most part. But they did a great job cleaning up when they were done. And True North Roofing sent out another crew later in the evening just to double check everything was cleaned up, like all the loose nails in the yard.

I have had a number of bids over the years as our roof came to the end of its lifespan. Levi was by far the most thorough and thoughtful. No one ever checked the attic before TNR looked at it or offered much in terms of upgrades to improve ventilation. Strongly recommended if you are looking to get things done right.

Called True North after finding out they were a local company and saw good reviews. Worked with Mackinzie to evaluate a small problem with our roof. Mackinzie was straightforward with the assessment and plan for repair and was a very clear communicator! I appreciated all the texts keeping us up to date on where things were at. If and when we need a new roof in the future we will call True North!

Chelsea and her team were great to work with - especially César and his crew who are too notch professionals and exceptional at their craft. We couldn’t be happier with the results.

We needed soffit and siding repaired. The team at True North were fantastic...very professional with lots of communication along the way. Pricing was very reasonable. Thanks to Chelsea, Owen, and Breck for the great work. Will reach out again in the future.

True North roofing promised me I would pay my deductible and nothing more. Partway through the project they tried to get me to sign something saying I would pay whatever insurance didn’t cover but would not give any sort of estimate whatsoever. They then stalled the work knowing I was on a deadline. They now finally sent a bill 30k over the initial estimate and will not give an itemized invoice. So I don’t know what they charged for. They also left an electrical wire hanging, a window that no opens correctly and dozens of nails all over my yard. Very difficult to deal company to deal with. I don’t recommend at all.

The team was great to work throughout the whole process. They asked detailed questions about what we wanted, answered questions we had, and were very transparent about cost changes + timelines. A great Minnesota company!

DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY. True North was a nightmare to work with. It took 530 days from the day we paid the project deposit to them finishing the work.

We started working with them to replace our house roof & garage roof in the summer of 2022 after a hail storm in the spring, they finally finished the project in the spring of 2024. The contractor we were working with didn't return our calls or texts for weeks at a time. When I called the office to get the issue escalated, I was told the owner would contact me several times, she never did. It is literally impossible to get in contact with these folks. I've spent hours over the last 18mo trying to get in contact with them to get them to do their job.

True North left supplies in piles in our yard for weeks. The crew broke a window (they fixed it) and tore a screen (did not fix it). Then the roof leaked after they had replaced it, causing water damage inside the house. We referred friends to True North in 2022 when the project was just getting started, never got the referral payout.

Don't do it, avoid this company at all costs.

I had remodeled my attic and insulated with a ‘cold roof’ with a ridge vent. Tracy told me that the current vents didn’t work well so i went with her much more efficient slot vents. The house is cooler and my air conditioning runs less saving money. True North also had a lower quote than others I had gotten. Really glad i went with them.

True North Roofing replaced the roof on my house and garage and repaired the rotting and neglected siding and trim on all three gable ends. I couldn’t be happier with the job they’ve done. The project manager, Chelsea, was responsive and pleasant and easy to work with. In the planning stage I had lots of questions and different options that I wanted to explore and she patiently came back with answers. The whole project was completed on time and everyone involved was great to deal with. The house looks so much better and I’m delighted. I unreservedly recommend Chelsea and True North. Thank you!

I was referred to True North after the August 2023 hail storm. Project manager Lauren worked diligently to get the job completed by the end of the season, always super responsive to my calls and able to answer my many questions!! True North worked directly with my insurance company to handle my claim, and I was truly amazed at how simple they made all the paperwork. Everything flowed seamlessly. And a big shout out to Sam and Jose for stopping by after completion to handle some detailing work. So wonderfully courteous and professional. The culture of this company was apparent in all my dealings with their staff. Thank you!

True North Roofing was wonderful in accommodating the needs of my tenant during the process of rebuilding the roof. It was a sensitive situation that they treated very respectfully and patiently.

I was also very pleased with how they handled working with my insurance so I didn’t have to worry about submitting any paperwork and I got the full coverage I needed to replace the roof.

I called and asked for a roofing estimate since they were local and was told a salesman would call and set up a time time in a day or two. So a little more than a week later and still no call. So I called them and said I no longer want an estimate from them. If they can't return calls or follow through on appointments, how is the job going to go?

True North Roofing is the real deal! They were timely, super responsive, and clearly experts on all things related to roofing in Minnesota. In addition to our initial roof inspection after a big storm, they also came back to meet with the insurance adjuster on our behalf. I'm certain their presence helped with the approval of our hail claim. We worked with Tracy and were really impressed with her at every step of the process. I can't recommend True North enough!

Tracy came and gave an estimate of needed gutter repair. While on the roof she found two existing areas near the chimney and showed me via pictures she took while up there. She offered to caulk them on the spot free of charge.
I felt she was honest and sincere. We will definitely use her company. Our neighbor across the street had their roof work completed by them as well.

From start to finish True North Roofing and Lauren Wagner made it easy. Lauren was out one day after my first phone call. All of my texts and emails were answered promptly. All questions answered patiently. Special requests for avoiding an old, fragile, and planted terrace were followed by all of the crew. The worksite was left neat and tidy. We began working with True North when we had hail damage. Always professional and prompt and they take extreme pride in their product and work. They were especially helpful in navigating the insurance process, and providing sound advice throughout.

After a long search for a roofing company and many companies trying to finance a roof to me, I contacted True North Roofing. Lauren came out to complete an inspection and was absolutely amazing from the first phone call. She showed up when she said she going to, she explained everything to me, and explained everything step by step. I had a storm chaser come to my house who wanted to check my roof for hail damage. I said sure. He checked, and said he found damage and I needed a new roof. I thanked him for his time, but didn't work with him because I wanted to work with a local company. So I called True North Roofing. Levi came to my house today to do his own inspection. And after inspecting, he said my roof is actually in great shape, and I won't need a new one for several years. I really appreciate this honesty! I don't need a new roof now, but when I do I will definitely be calling True North!

We had our roof and gutters replaced by True North. True North came and took pictures which were then submitted to our insurance company. Our insurance claim was approved very quickly and True North handled it from there. They were extremely professional. Every contact with employees of True North was positive. They came when they said, did the job and cleaned up after they were finished. It looks great. I would definitely recommend True North Roofing.

I needed my roof to be replaced after a storm when I noticed a sign in a neighbors yard for true north roofing. I had been speaking with a couple different companies but decided to give them a call. Lauren got in contact with me soon after and was very helpful with the process. She was easy to get a hold of and was able to explain every step of the process. I only had actual cost value replacement coverage on my roof and thought my liability limit would only cover a portion of the repair but Lauren and her claims department were able to review my policy and were able to get almost the whole roof covered! The quote was higher than the other companies but between them getting me more coverage and the quality of the repair it was definitely worth it. The roof and gutters look amazing, and the crew completed in a timely manner. Hopefully I won’t need a roof replacement any time soon but if I do I will definitely use true north again.

My roof required tear off and total replacement. My insurance company disagreed. It took more than a year, but True North hung in there providing photos and samples and more photos and samples. In the end, truth won! In record time the most wonderful team of hard workers banged out a new roof and I go into winter assured and secure. This is the best company. Maybe because it's woman owned, they go an extra mile.

Many, many thanks to Tracy, Sarah, and the wonderful True North roofing crew. For various reasons, I needed this job done as soon as possible-and True North made special efforts to accomplish this. I am so very pleased with the work done. The roof is beautiful, and the work expertly done (and quickly) by true professionals. This is roofing done right! True North Roofing came out to inspect my roof after another contractor told me my ridge vent was not right. Tracy took her time to inspect ALL aspects of my roof, both on top and from the attic. They she explained to me what kind of vent I have, how it works and that it was fine. Very professional and I feel well taken care of. Will definitely be calling them when it’s time for a new roof!

The people I worked with at True North were very nice and professional. The lower review is because everything took much longer than I was told it would take and they left my yard and garden full of trash. It took almost 4 full days to complete the project after I was told initially it would take 1. As a parent of an infant, it was a huge disruption to have to keep planning around loud noises multiple days. No one asked me about my gardens before the roofing started, so many of my plants were trampled. I had to ask people to stop walking on my newly planted pollinator garden at least 8 times. My vegetable garden is inedible for the season because so much roofing junk got ground into the soil. I will have to remediate the soil for next year if I don’t want to be eating construction chemicals. Also there was trash left all over my gardens. I’ve pulled large pieces of roof, caulk guns, plastic bags, nails, water bottles and more out of my bushes and flowers. As of writing this review there is still some plywood they’ve left on my boulevard in front of my house that no one has collected, weeks after the project has been completed. The company has been apologetic but I’m going to be cleaning up bits of roofing and plastic out of my yard for years to come. As someone who strives to keep an organic yard with pollinator friendly plantings, this is a huge setback and massively frustrating.

Top notch people, from the rep/salesperson, to the roofing crew, to the gutter crew, to the owner who was on site for part of the roofing. Rep kept in touch frequently. Despite language barrier, the crews were respectful and made sure we had vehicles moved. Cleanup was also excellent. Could not have been any better; I highly recommend them!

We were concerned about a leak so we contacted True North and Tracy came out and did an inspection. She was absolutely wonderful to work with. Very easy to talk to, professional, and she put our minds at ease. We will definitely use True North when it’s time for a new roof!

Nothing but professional. Tracy went above and beyond to help me through the project and was able to fix issues that were unforseen in the project. The crew were great and worked hard and did amazing work. Lots of attention to detail...especially running magnets when we needed to move vehicles around to make sure no one ended up with a flat! If I could give 10 stars, I would! True North Roofing, a female owned company, was wonderful to work with from start to finish. Tracy (and Sarah) was very knowledgeable, responsive, kept in good communication, worked directly with the insurance company, was on-site during the job, did a final, thorough inspection, and went above and beyond what other roofing companies do, including painting the radon pipe. Their attention to detail and a clean job site were greatly appreciated. A+!

The whole True North team was patient and responsive. Jose A, Cesar, Erik, and Jose S answered our many questions and made sure our home turned out beautiful. Sarah and Jose at True North Roofing are amazing. I had an attic vent that wasn’t hooked up right that caused water to leak into my kitchen. They came out right away and replaced it out for a reasonable price which included a full roof inspection. They followed up after it rained to check in and make sure all is good. From the very beginning, Sarah walked me through what to expect, and worked with my insurance company to get me the best refund possible (our roof was old and only partially covered). She made suggestions on ways to improve the roof and explained why she uses the materials she does. Update: I appreciated the work True North did on my roof so much that I called them back after a heavy snowfall destroyed our gutters. We walked through how they were currently set up and how we would like to change them. True North is always look out for their customers, it's so refreshing to work with a company that has integrity.

Sarah, Penny and her team worked relentlessly with my insurance company after a storm. They walked me through the process step by step and made sure I understood the complexities of the claims process. Sarah even spoke directly to my insurance agent, who was both hostile and unprofessional when he found out that I was in the process of filing a claim.

Later, I reached out to Sarah to help me with a leaky skylight. In no time at all, the leak was fixed.

Throughout our many interactions, TrueNorth has been extraordinarily responsive, affordable, understanding and friendly. And the quality of work is among the best you can find.

If you are in the market, I absolutely recommend this woman-owned and run roofing company.

Never thought I could feel so passionate about a roofing company, but I’ll be recommending True North for years to come!!!
After storm damage my insurance company has been way less than fun to deal with, but True North has done an amazing job at dealing with them and advocating for us! Tracy has been super responsive at every turn and Sarah, the owner, is always accessible as well.

My original review was from 2020 after my experience as a customer. Should’ve known by my enthusiasm that I truly loved this company because I started working for True North in the summer of 2022. Now that I know is from the inside out, I would recommend us even more highly.

True North was a pleasure to work with, Trudy was very kind and knowledgeable and she walked us through the claims process and exactly what would need to be done for our roof. Her crew arrived early and did such a wonderful job putting on our new roof and cleaning up all the debri when they were finished. We could not be happier with the work they did and I will recommend them to everyone looking for a fair priced, professional, prompt and very knowledgeable crew!

Sarah was very easy to work with. She did a great job walking me through the process of what to expect and even helped me fill out some of the paperwork when I was confused. She was very easy to reach when I had questions or concerns. The construction crew was very respectful, efficient, and did a great job cleaning up after the work was complete. I'm very happy with my new roof.

TNR was so helpful when I consulted them after a different roofing company did a terrible job replacing my roof. Sarah was so helpful advising me about how to handle the situation to proceed forward, what exactly to ask for and what to expect. She is very professional, personable, informative, thorough, and responsive. She also kept checking back with me to make sure I got the help I needed to correct the problems. Penny came out to my house to inspect my roof after a recent hail storm she was very up front and honest with her assessment of my damages which were minimal and was in no need of repair unlike a few of the other companies who came to inspect before that. True North was the 2d company I called for a roof bid. First guy went on the roof and gave a bid. Penny of True North inspected the roof and determined there was wind damage. She returned when the insurance adjuster came to inspect the roof and he agreed that the damage was enough for the insurance to cover a new roof. So Penny saved me thousands of dollars! This allowed me to arrange with True North for new gutters as well. Penny supervised the actual roofing and was always responsive to questions in person or via email. I highly recommend this company!

Penny came out to my son's home to inspect his roof for hail damage. She is at the top of the list when it comes to professional work ethics. She is AWESOME! We have had a nightmare on our hands dealing with the insurance company. I lost track of how many times Penny had to return and get up on that steep roof. She never complains and she is at this moment trying her hardest to work with insurance. If you want honesty and a professional, give Penny a call!

Sarah is an outstanding communicator. Her team was able to fit in a small custom window wrap job for me. And they did it for a good price.

Their Pro, German, was prompt and did top-notch work. He was also very nice to my curious 6 year old son who had a TON of questions for him during the installation.
