Considering the entire project in total, from conception and material selection through finishing touches and final billing we felt that we overpaid for the experience and product delivered. Initial payment was made in August of 2022 and the work concluded at the end of May 2023.

The Good: The team who did the vast majority of the work on our home were amazing. Brandon and Charlie did most of the work in the house with project management by Shaun. They worked quickly but the quality never suffered. I work from home and they were courteous and accommodating in scheduling work around my frequent meetings and calls. They made my wife feel comfortable and were respectful of our home, dogs, and schedule. The kitchen and bathroom look amazing and almost make up for the more substantive complaints.

The Bad: The higher level project management was frustrating from start to finish. Frankley I am hard pressed to see that Traditions added value to the process outside of employing good workers. During material selection we were steered towards cheap materials and given minimal options that were “in-budget”. We had to push regularly to get the materials we actually wanted ordered on time. The budget and billing process were also a source of frustration. We agreed to progressive billing but failed to establish progress metrics. Traditions was comfortable billing us for 75% of the work before the first phase was even completed. When we selected materials that were outside of the extremely basic options presented we were told they were “out of budget” but when we asked about the budget we were told that we had agreed to “all-in pricing”. Getting an actual cost breakdown of even roughly what each phase of the renovation cost or how much was budgeted for a given item was treated with condescension and we were fed the line “they didn’t account for every nail” multiple times.

The Ugly: The final phase of the project, once we had paid 95% of the final costs, was rushed and the quality suffered. Light switch plates were painted over rather than removed and replaced, leading to a rather sloppy and unprofessional look, a patch of wall that isn’t easily visible was missed all together, some of the paint on doors and trim is already peeling, every single interior door no longer latches correctly with the door latch striking the newly painted trim rather than the strike plate, paint got onto the floors in several areas and was left for us to clean.

Conclusion: Traditions was the second highest bid for the work we wanted done and they were $15,000 more than online estimates we received. We selected them because we wanted to step up the quality, off-load the project management tasks, and get the renovation done quickly. Ultimately, they did not live up to our expectations. I wish we could have hired Brandon, Charlie, and Shaun directly and done the ordering and project management ourselves. If you go with them for your remodel I recommend insisting on a milestone based payment plan and to come to the table with materials selected and sourced yourself.

They did a great job on our garage addition. We were very pleased with how it turned out. They were very professional and kept us in the loop throughout the whole project. Would use them again.

In the planning stages of our project, Traditions was sure to design a project that matched our budget and expectations. Other companies weren't nearly as flexible with our requests, so we chose Traditions. The personal contact that Brooke maintained with us throughout the project helped us to feel confident in each step of the process.

As with any home project, there were things that went wrong, or took longer than we expected, but the team was flexible and willing to fix problems in a timely manner.

As first time homeowners, our advice to others undergoing a project like this is to write everything down/get everything in writing and to schedule a meeting with the contractors in person to make sure everything is on the same page.

There are lots of moving parts to a basement remodel, and when we had a conversation with one member of the Traditions team about a part of the project, it wasn't always communicated to the whole team.

There were a few instances where we didn't know exactly what was happening with the project or where we felt communication was lacking. Once the project was underway, we didn't get much choice with decisions about the project.

However, Brian and Jason ultimately worked with us on each of these instances and were flexible to complete a project that matched our expectations and budget.

We especially loved working with Brennan, the plumber. Brennan was a hard worker and great at communicating with us.

Also, our dog, Jo, loved every member of the team-- we underestimated how nice it was to work with a dog-friendly team!

Traditions Company added an apartment/casita onto our existing home. The entire staff priorities customer service. They were respectful of our neighbors and willing to make make adjustments that best fit our needs for the project. They are a great company to work with!

I have been working closely with this company for a year and I can say they go above and beyond for each one of their clients. They take a considerable amount of time and effort to walk through the process of your project with you and do great quality work.

I am very impressed with their attention to detail and the care that they seem to give each person they work with. They have helped many of my clients with pole barns, garages, and additional dwelling units.

Totally unresponsive and dishonest. Estimator came out in May, seemed very positive. Said we’d have an estimate in a week. I called after two weeks and left multiple voicemails to no response. Texted the estimator multiple times to no response. After a month he finally picked up and was “shocked” I hadn’t received a bid. He was talking to the owner and “guaranteed” I’d receive the bid in 24 hours. Never received the bid. After five months I suddenly get a text from the estimator that they lost the specs and he’d like to come out and rebid the job. Since I hadn’t hired anyone yet I gave him the benefit of the doubt and he came out again. Same routine, I’d receive the bid in a week. Two weeks goes by and I start texting. Then I call, get voicemail. As soon as I hang up I get a text that he’d call me in a couple of minutes. No call. Two more weeks. I send a few more texts. Crickets. Yesterday (it has now been five months) I tried calling again and got voicemail again. The second I hung up I got this text:
“ Good afternoon sir, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. After going over everything with the owner, he has decided to pass on this project. I truly apologize for this taking so long.”

Unbelievable.
