We had a great experience working with Tough Builders. They re-did a large portion of our basement: hung new drywall, installed new installation, and painted. I was beyond impressed with their work. They worked with my budget and timeline. Redoing a shower tub and a walk in shower conversion in a week! Honestly couldn't be happier with our bathroom reno. Victor and team transformed our huge 1990s master bath (see before pic) into my dream spa-like retreat! The crew was awesome - they showed up when they said they were going to show up, did what they said they were going to do, and fixed a few little things that we requested without any fuss. They were in and out in 2 weeks when the other contractors said 1-2 months. Literally our only regret was that we wasted so much time with flaky contractors before finding these guys. Hector and the Tough Builders team was absolutely the best and we are so happy we chose them to rough in our basement bathroom. Not only did they have to move/reframe 3 walls, relocate electrical items, plumb the bathroom to add a shower/toilet/sink and hook up the vent, but they had to incorporate a large Liberty Pump injector pump! I didn’t share any before photos because, frankly, the kitchen was hard to keep organized and clean. Many of you with homes built before 2020 may recognize the old layout: a desk, a wall oven, and a center island with a stovetop. Our dishwasher was awkwardly positioned to the left of the sink, making it difficult to load and unload.

This outdated design meant limited storage, zero prep space, and a kitchen that felt more like a chore than a place to enjoy. We honestly didn’t like spending time at home and always found excuses to be elsewhere.

Now, with the renovation complete, we can’t wait to be in the kitchen! We love being at home more than ever.

I want to start by thanking Tough Builders Inc and their team for their amazing work on our kitchen remodel. From start to finish, they exceeded our expectations. The design process was collaborative, and they really took the time to understand what we wanted. The custom cabinets, new countertops, and stunning backsplash are all just perfect! This was a terrible experience!!!!!

Our front porch overhang needed to be re supported. We paid them to used 2 parallel 2x6 to insure the weight would be no problem. They slapped twosome 2x4s and some osb board and tried to cover it up before we saw it. Hector told me it was just as good ???

We had then do a recessed electric fireplace. Looked ok but first time we turned it on out breaker box exploded, they did not put it on its own circuit. Hector said it was my fault because I selected the unit ???

There was more work we had paid to be done but by this point it was obvious we made a bad decision.

When we pointed out the issues to Hector he simply told me it's not his fault and refused to fix anything.

We ended up just asking him to leave and not come back, then had to hire someone else to come behind them.

Do not hire Tough Builders

The company did a shower remodeling for our house. Great communication, timely and quality work. I would strongly recommend them and I will definitely consider that company for my future construction needs.

This is our second project with Hector and his team. We had been wanting to add a deck to our house since we bought it five years ago, but have never been able to find a company both reasonable and flexible enough to do what we wanted. Hector and his team took our designs and nailed it (pun intended). They are always prompt, responsive, and thorough with attention to detail. They even accommodated our design changes mid-project with ease.

While we had them working on the deck, my wife had Hector and his team repair a couple of cracks in our ceiling drywall as well as paint the ceiling in a couple of rooms. Hector made sure the job was completed to our satisfaction and had minor imperfections corrected promptly.

This certainly will not be our last project with tough builders and we can't recommend them enough!

We recently hired Tough Builders to step in and save our home renovation project. Some projects we started but we were not able to finish, like cabinet installation. Others had mistakes that needed correcting, such as LVP flooring, while some, like installing a vanity, we hadn’t tackled at all.

Just a few days after reaching out to Tough Builders, they visited our home to provide a quote. During the walkthrough, they took the time to understand our vision and reassured us that they could handle everything with ease. Their confidence, professionalism, and clear explanations immediately impressed us.

We quickly decided to hire them, and within a week, they got started. The entire renovation took about a week, during which they efficiently completed multiple projects while maintaining excellent communication. Anytime we had a question or concern, they addressed it promptly. What amazed us most was their ability to fix our previous mistakes—you’d never know we had attempted (and failed at) several of these projects ourselves.

With more renovations planned in the coming months, Tough Builders will be our first call. Not once did we feel taken advantage of, and their honesty, craftsmanship, and professionalism are truly rare. We cannot recommend them highly enough!

Wow. I have had lots of small jobs at my house, however closing off a two story family room to add a sunroom, bedroom, bathroom, closet and relocating the laundry room upstairs was a first. Tough builders really made this experience seamless. There are always hidden ups and down in a large project like this, but Tough Builders listened and acted on my concerns. We even had a standing weekly meeting to go over what was done and work for the week to come. I

Several other noted mentions...
1. On time to work
2. Minimal dust and cleaned up as best they could daily. I often come behind just to sweep the little I saw or vacuum up.
3. Cost was good, but the cost at the end was 20,000 over with good reasons. My house did not have the structure to support a second floor in that area and was not known until the walls were open. I added several higher end items, and wanted some added features that was not noted as needed until the construction time. Overall, it was to be expected with such a large project.
4. Time line was good and completed in 5 months.

They were the best contractors I have ever hired. They were very professional and knowledgeable. They were polite and friendly throughout the entire process. Cleaned up meticulously every day. Converted a window to a door. Built raised deck and enclosed front porch with patio doors. Everything came out perfectly.

We recently replaced our original wooden deck with composite decking. Our original wooden deck was of poor quality and had started deteriorating; we couldn't even use it for fear of falling through. We had Tough Builders install a new composite deck. We couldn't be happier with the results. The framing is night and day compared with what was there before. It has a very hefty construction and is extremely solid. The new composite material looks fantastic and has completely transformed the outdoor space. Not only does the new composite decking look great, but it's also much easier to maintain, which is a big plus for us. The installation team did a fantastic job, and we were impressed with their attention to detail. Overall, we are delighted with the deck replacement and highly recommend Tough Builders to anyone looking for a deck replacement.

The Tough Builders Inc team did an excellent job with the new deck installation. They worked diligently to complete the project even with the high temperatures exceeding 95 degrees. They were attentive to all of our requests when it came to design and quality. After construction was completed they quickly cleared the area of all debris and hauled it away. We had the pleasure of working with Hector, Nery, Alvaro, and another gentleman (I cannot remember his name, but he helped with the installation) on our window replacements, and I cannot recommend them highly enough!

We had 6 upper windows that needed to be replaced. We got the window replacements sent to us by our builder since they were under warranty, but we had to find someone to install them, and for some reason, it was a bit difficult to find someone to do the installation - until we found Tough Builders Inc while searching on Google.

Hector was extremely responsive, quick to provide a quote, and he even arrived a little bit earlier than he said he would be here by (which I highly appreciated). He did a thorough look at our windows, reviewed over the pieces that we had sent to us by our builder, and explained the process of how he will get done what we needed to get done. It took less than 6 hours for them to uninstall, replace, and clean up the trash (which I am so happy that they hauled everything away for us). Once they were done, Hector came on by to check out our windows to ensure they met our expectations, which they totally did, and we even got a couple more quotes from him for some projects that we have planned.

A few small things that I also want to highlight that I appreciated, because it's the little things that count sometimes:
1. At one point when Nery was coming to check on Alvaro and the other gentleman, I was carrying a heavy FedEx box inside my house, and Nery was courteous and asked if I needed help carrying it.
2. When I was getting ready to move our extra window parts down to our basement storage area, Alvaro and the other gentleman went ahead and carried it down for me.
3. They took their shoes off while walking on the carpeted areas (I know, this one sounds a bit weird, but it was very respectful in my eyes)

I hired Hector to repair the ceiling drywall in my bathroom from a roof leak. Hector and his team are hardworking professionals, they are detail orientated and punctual. All work was completed in a timely manner and they confirmed I was pleased with the work before they left my home. Highly recommend.

Hector Vasquez and his team from Tough Builders, Inc recently finished an unfinished portion of my basement, which is now called my office. I am extremely happy with the entire process. Hector gave me the best estimate, took care of getting permits, and, most importantly, stayed within budget and on schedule. The crew was professional and personable. We decided to use Tough Builders for several different projects inside and outside of our home. We practically rebuilt the entire exterior of our home, we replaced all windows, removed 3, changed the shape of two, re-wrapped the house, replaced all outside trim work with rot-free PVC, got new siding, new soffits, new larger gutters, added a new screened porch out back. Inside, we remodeled three bathrooms and had solid oak floors installed on two levels, including both sets of stairs. I feel like our project with Tough Builders covered a lot of different categories. From the beginning, I felt comfortable dealing with Hector. Hector was easy to talk to from the initial quote to the final walk-through (clear, detailed, and without any hidden surprises). Isaias, our project manager, coordinated the different work as it was being done. They listened to my ideas, offered expert suggestions without being pushy, and kept me informed every step of the way. A project this large is going to have some issues, but we were able to work through them. Hector and his team always worked to satisfy our concerns. I know big remodels can be a nerve-wracking experience, but Tough Builders made the whole project less stressful.

We recently had Tough builders remodel our front entry to our house to create a small covered area over the front step.
They did great work, finished on budget, and on time. We like the finished work and can strongly recommend them for any work you have small or large. We ahve had them do a near total remodel to our house in 2022 and later in 2023 as well and as usual the work was outstanding. Get your work done right at reasonable price rather than get work done which needs to be fixed at additional expense.

Another fantastic job by Tough Builders! This is the fourth time we've worked with Hector and his hard working team. It won't be the last. Isaiah, the project lead, kept us well informed and was always available for questions. There never was any guess work with what was going on.

We will finally be able to use our back deck! They replaced the old one and added a roof, with a ceiling fan, over a good portion of it. It was just too hot without one. Some open space was left for grilling and basking in the sun. They also got rid of the eyesore deck off of the master bedroom (we never used it) and added a nice set of stairs.

They are very dedicated to great quality in craftsmanship. To give you an idea, the old deck had three 6×6 posts supporting it. Now we have ten. Not overkill, but a very solid deck that will last a long time.

Considering the amount of time worked and the materials that went into building the deck, roof and stairs, we got a great deal!

Our project with Tough Builders was a big one: we tore off our existing kitchen and added on a bigger one. The main part of the house was built in 1735 so we had a lot of structural considerations.

My husband is a retired home remodeler and I worked for an interior designer for years. As you can imagine, we've got very high standards.

Hector and our site manager, Isaiah, worked hard to meet those standards.

We are thrilled with our finished product. It is even better than we imagined it!

This company remodelled and updated all of my bathrooms. This is by far the best company I have dealt with. Very professional and their entire workforce was very polite and catered to our needs! 10/10 would recommend.

We started looking for a contractor to build our addition a year prior to finding Tough Builders. Either they simply would not respond back, came out and never gave us a quote or simply wanted to build it their way and not how we wanted it and they wanted way too much money, as much as buying a new home. Prayer and persistence finally paid off when we met with Hector. He gave us a quote in the timeframe he said he would. This gave us a good feeling about him; but as time went our decision to go with them would be one the best decisions we made.

Not only did he get back to us in a timely fashion as promised; but everything he said he would he actually followed through on! He made sure to have the crews lined up so when one finished the next one started without hiccup. From beginning to end his word was golden. I was pleasantly surprised when he said he only works with friendly professional people who are great at what they do and want to work. I was ecstatic when each crew came did their jobs and this was true.

Through the entire process any questions we had were welcomed and promptly answered; communication was prompt and always friendly. Any changes we wanted were done; even after the framing had been done. (I widened our kitchen and made a closet smaller.) The contractor simply said if that is what you want, we will do it; no problem. Everyone was always smiling, happy, professional and very polite. This was awesome to see and we enjoyed getting to know each of them to some extent while they were working.

I must add; I love pictures and videos. So, I documented the entire process from the time the first delivery for the foundation arrived all the way to the end. They had no problem with this; they could feel my excitement. And, I have to say Bella, the framer’s dog, came with her daddy everyday and is the most amazing dog. She even climbs up and down ladders. She just made me smile so much. She was very well behaved; and probably thought my dogs were a bit crazy because they liked to bark and chase her. She is very well behaved and quiet; I don’t think I heard a peep out of her. She just kept an eye on her daddy and the workers and hung out.

In closing I have to say, Tough Builders will be our go to for any building, remodels we do in the future. Fantastic work ethic with reasonable pricing! Multiple contractors for various jobs and we have found the right one we will continue to work with. Tough Builders Inc. has repaired multiple leaks for us and completely remodeled our basement. Their work is always done with attention to detail and professionalism. They even caught me trying to “fix” a leak myself then advised me of how to PROPERLY fix it… and then fixed it properly for me. The basement remodel was taking a finished basement and turning it into a properly permitted two bedroom, one bath with a kitchen apartment. Hector and his site manager, Isaiah, kept us updated regularly. Both gentlemen were quick to respond when we had minor questions or concerns, which were then were promptly addressed.

We are happy with our projects' end result and are certain we would contact Hector again when we decide to tackle future projects.

The modern version of “You get what you pay for” is more accurately phrased “You don’t get what you don’t pay for.” You might find a lower price for your project, but you won’t find a better value than Tough Builders.

Our project was a complete bathroom overhaul. Mr. Hector Vasquez, Tough Builders Project Manager, came to our home before demolition to discuss scope and take measurements. He listened to us as we described the materials and effects we wanted to create. As we discussed options, Mr. Vasquez took careful notes to ensure an accurate proposal that specified important details, including what materials, what fixtures, who would procure which items, and on what schedule.

Following separate demolition, Tough Builders took over the space with sheathing on the walls, raw subflooring, and no ceiling. We discovered that the selected sink and toilet would require significant plumbing modifications since modular housing often takes shortcuts such as routing plumbing through the floor instead of the walls. Mr. Vasquez accurately scoped the required work and submitted a change proposal to cover the labor and materials. Everything was up front and approved before the modification work started. No surprises.

The sequencing of work was very well-planned. The right workers with the right skills arrived on time and prepared to work. The plumbing was corrected with minimal interruption to our water service. The wall boards were installed precisely and sealed exceptionally well in the shower enclosure area. The paint team spent the time to ensure that the surfaces to be painted were smooth and free of any defects. The shower tiles were precisely squared and well anchored. The flooring and fixtures went in last and brought an already beautiful space to life.

Every single craftsman who came into our home worked diligently, quietly, and professionally. They respected our home and our family as the project progressed. Each team thoroughly cleaned the inside work area, the outside preparation area, and the path from one to the other. Every single person from Tough Builders was respectful, courteous, and trustworthy. They answered questions when asked and offered opinions when requested. We were completely confident in the quality of the work that was being done.

My entire basement flooded on Christmas Day. I called Hector after the new year for an estimate and he came out the next day. He did plumbing, flooring and remodeled my entire bathroom. I decided that I wanted a little kitchenette put up, and he did that. He also but up a door and replaced a sliding door. He was always on time, communicated well, did what he said he was going to do and the price was very fair. I am very pleased with the work he did and plan on using him for anything else I need done in my house.

Replaced front door jam and trim. I wanted to keep the door which would mean they would need to fabricate a new door jam. Spoke with a couple of companies that wouldn't replace the door jam so I could keep the door and they insisted I would have to get a new door. I understand why they want to do it this way but we really preferred to keep the same door. Fortunately Tough Builders was able to fabricate a new door jam and reuse my existing door. They did an outstanind job as it opens and closes 10 times better than it did before.
Trim around the door looks great as well. Very clean and smooth.

Hector and Team did a phenomenal job on renovating my basement. As I’ve come to learn of most home contractors they are messy and don’t clean up behind themselves but I’ve just accepted that as the norm in contractor business. That aside, his crew did a great job on my basement renovation. The attention to detail was evident in the work and they were efficient, professional, meticulous and provided me with the end product I was expecting.

We hired Tough Builders to remodel our home including: carpet removal, level flooring, install new LVP flooring, remove a wall between kitchen and dining-room, install kitchen cabinets, update lighting, update plumbing, paint, install new stair-treads, install new ceiling fans, with all trim etc. They did a great job within schedule and budget, kept me informed of progress, were willing to work weekends to get things done, made very few errors, were polite, cleaned up after themselves, and we are happy with the new house! I strongly recommend them to anyone in the Stafford VA area and beyond.

Hector was THE BEST. Great work at a great price. Will definitely call him again for future tasks since he does other handyman jobs, too.

We hired Tough Builders to do several renovation jobs within our home to include bathroom remodeling, fireplace makeover, window and door replacement, garage conversion including flooring. I am very pleased with the work that was done. All employees are super nice, and regularly checked in with me on personal touches, ie. which direction I wanted the tile to go. They made recommendations to me on what would work best, and set very fair prices. Towards the end of our renovations during a door replacement, they discovered pretty severe water damage behind the walls and siding that we couldn't see. They were able to tear down and fix the issues within a week, working overtime I'm sure. The prices I felt were very reasonable, if not less than what I expected, and Hector always answered my calls/texts, and kept me informed and up to date, which I truly appreciated.

We will be hiring them again to redo our deck, and I have no doubts they will do a fantastic job. I highly recommend this company for any renovation needs, they can do it all!

Hector and his crew were amazing. They installed two shower stalls/enclosures in our main and master bathrooms. We contracted them to remove the old drywall and install new drywall in both bathrooms. The mudding and finishing work was superb! They also ran new plumbing in our kitchen, replacing older piping and installed new piping and hookup for a refrigerator. The price was extremely competitive and fair.
Hector was accommodating and responsive to all of our needs and concerns. He was also very open to lend his advice, expertise, and consultation about other construction concerns that were outside of the scope of the services he was contracted to do. His guys were true professionals! Absolutely no complaints. I've added "Tough Builders" to my contact list on my phone - we will be reaching out and using them again for sure!

Hector and his team at Tough Builders were incredible. He showed up the day I called requesting an estimate and spent his time assessing the work that needed to be done. He provided a very competitive and reasonably priced estimate and stuck to our agreement. He and his crew fit us into the schedule within just a couple of days given the importance of the repairs we needed. They showed up on time and were very professional. They took their time to make sure each step of the repair was done correctly and were patient with my questions. The work was done on time and exceeded our expectations. Tough Builders can certainly be relied upon for home repairs!

Tough Builders finished our basement and laid down hardwood in place of some original carpeting. When we first reached out, they were very responsive - they set up a prompt meeting for us to talk about what we were looking for, and Hector talked us through our options while keeping our budget in mind. He was very flexible, both with things we chose not to do and things we asked to add on while the job was in progress. He was also very communicative with us, often sending us pictures and updates before we needed to ask (we hadn't yet moved into the house). The basement and the flooring both turned out beautiful. We were very happy with Tough Builders, and definitely plan to hire them for future projects!

Google will not allow me to do a new review, so I’m adding our latest project, very successfully completed by Tough Builders again, to a previous review. My wife and I will it consider anyone else to work on our home, but them. There aren’t enough superlatives to explain our experience and their work. Water damage led us to renovate our bathroom. Work was also required in our guest bedroom bathroom and a basement closet, but our bathroom was a complete redo. We love it. Tough Builders was there cradle to grave - planning, design, recommendations, upgrade, repair, everything down to the smallest detail. Every day we were updated with the progress made and then what was next. I added photos (before/after) for consideration. One of the shower photos was before the glass was added.

Review from 2 years ago - We were impressed very early on in regards to the level of professionalism. Hector was open about all discoveries made in preparation for the work needed as well as all the options available to get the job done. He stayed in constant communication of progress. The work done was high quality and very thorough. We really appreciated the integrity in regards to the work that needed to be done, or in our case, not needed. The original estimate expected that all the joists would need to be replaced. However, after removing the Trex decking it turned out that the joists were still good. We were advised of such, and the estimate lowered. The job was not done until we were given a chance to provide feedback. Even the smallest issue was resolved.

Hector Vazquez & his excellent crew at Tough Builders, Inc. not only completed a full basement build-out at a cost savings but achieved the results commensurate to many of the higher-priced competitors of the area without deviating from the quality we expected from the beginning. From providing an estimate, design, pulling permits from the county, and build-out, Hector and his team worked diligently with us throughout the process, including weekends to ensure minimal impact to our daily routines. One of the qualities we appreciated was Hector's honesty and trust, something his employees stood by as well. This was our first major project, which came with a lot of unknowns; however, my trust in Hector paid off big time because we have a fantastic looking basement, one that we’ll enjoy for a lifetime. Going anywhere else would be insane…..Tough Builders will be hard to beat, especially when commended by industry professionals and county inspectors for the scopes of their projects and actual costs.

Tough Builders Inc saved my day when strong winds blew off parts of my gutter and roof facia. Hector came over on a very short notice and did all required emergency repairs preventing further damage to the house. Hector and his team were amazing! We had a really bad experience with another contractor, who took a month to do nothing but break things. Hector came with his team and installed tile, plumbing, vanity, faucets, mirrors in our main bathroom within a week. It was a joy working with him and his team. The Tough Builders Inc team did outstanding work! Very happy with their service, professionalism, and responsiveness, and will definitely work with them again! Work included installation of new flooring in the kitchen, pantry, and laundry room, interior and trim paint in multiple rooms and on multiple floor levels (including a high foyer), installation of L.E.D. recessed lights in main floor areas of the house, a 1/2 bath refurbishment on the main floor, and demo, removal, and replacement of an enclosed fence which included installation of multiple, sturdy large-access swing doors.
