Top Shield Roofing - Portland, OR

I chose Top Shield Roofing to replace my roof in the middle of winter when it started to leak unexpectedly.

I received quotes from multiple firms and decided to go with Top Shield because their quote was very detailed and professional and they gave prompt and detailed answers to my questions. They were not the cheapest but it was still a reasonable price.

I was very happy with the the process and the end result. The crew worked professionally, there were no surprises, they decided to switch to a harder solution for a problemmatic part of the roof at no additional cost, and they honored additional small requests. They informed me about the process and were flexible around my schedule.

Hopefully this roof will last me 30 more years and I will not need their services again. But they are simply top notch and I can not recommend them enough.

Wow, Top Shield roofing is the very best choice for any roofing needs that you may have. They are truly there to do what's right as if they were working on their own house. I got 14 bids for a new roof. I also did research on different types of material as well. When Oscar came out for that initial look/estimate. He was the only person who took a very good close look at my roof. Really to get a good idea of what it would take to get this job done right. He addressed all of my concerns and even made absolutely sure that they were all included in my estimate. I believe he was the second of 14 estamets that I had received. I did not forget what he had done to show me that he really cared that it was done right. He was the only one who got up on the roof to see what really needed to happen to do it right. Another cool thing is that he even owned the project working with a great crew to get it done. I was able to speak to him about concerns at any time during the project. There were some serious underlying issues with proper ventilation. Oscar shown me exactly what was going on and what needed to be done to fix it. These guys don't just go put new shingles on, they make sure that it is done right! This is what I was looking for. Top shield will put whatever material that you like. They are certified and insured to do so. My research led me to go with Malarkey Vista AG. The granuals seem to hold up longer and it has an Algae component that helps keep the moss from growing. My roof is 3 stories high with a very steep pitch. One mistake that the last roofers made besides bad ventilation was that they used staples instead of nails. This destroys shingles because the staple surface is so thin. Top Shield only uses the correct hardware suggested by the shingle manufacturer. They also put weather barrier and metal in the valleys. My old roof didn't have that which is terrible in the northwest with all the rain we recieve. Top Shield did a fantastic job protecting the grounds around my property. Every day the crew went around and cleaned up any staples and nails which may of made it to the ground. They even used magnetic rollers to insure nothing was missed. Another item that I needed help with was an antenna. They helped me mount that with no issues. It was a big deal to me but they didn't even charge me any extra for doing it. Speaking of cost for the project which was certainly a factor for me. They came in just under mid range. Their estimate is exactly what I was charged. No surprises. I hate getting unexpected charges. Top Shield does a wonderful job making sure that bad workmanship doesnt happen. Keep in mind, Top Shield owns their craftsmanship. If any mistake is made you can be sure that they will make it right. These guys are the best. They replaced my roof and were great and professional every step of the way. Their price was fair, their service was impeccable, and their venting solution for my roof fixed a longtime issue with the upstairs of the building being too hot. If you read one thing from this review, it is that Top Shield Roofing is the best roofing company in the Portland metro area. Go with them. You won't be disappointed. Unlike most companies, they are certified in attic + roof ventilation.

A few months ago we got a mold inspection done of our house. One problem area found was mold in the attic, which is quite common in the PNW. I researched all of the top 5 star roofing companies in the area to have them walk our roof and ensure we have proper ventilation. I had 10 companies come out and 9 of them said that our roof was perfect and no ventilation was needed. Top Shield was the 10th and they took 2 hours to review every piece of our roof. They saved our lives.

Oscar open up the air vents and the insulation was pushed to the top, meaning that there was not air flow. He showed the mold right away in our roof. Our roof was incorrectly done without the right gaps for the hot air to flow up and out to the attic and out. We spent time designing out how much intake to exhaust vents we should have and where (Oscar is brilliant and knows ventilation to Oregon building codes). We went from some ventilation perhaps installed in our attic to a reroof. It was scary and we were uncertain that we made the right decision. We did.

When they took off the shingles, they pulled up the plywood and our plywood was actually BURNT - not a little bit, a LOT. I have never ever seen this before. The team took off all of plywood, created air gaps to ensure the insulation doesn't push up, and then redid the roof with the ventilation everywhere per our discussion.

They communicated each step of the process. To say they are detail oriented is an understatement. Out of all of the 5 star rated top roofing companies in Oregon, they were the only ones that found this mistake and our roof was crumbling from heat and mold without us knowing. That's why I say that they saved our lives. They noticed what others didn't. And they redid our roof to perfection. I am in awe. Top Shield is like family to us now. They are kind, respectful, ALWAYS on time (to the minute), the hardest workers and the smartest in the trade.

If you want to make sure your family stays healthy, go with them. They will not only do your roof but make sure it's done right and with the correct ventilation. Mold is no joke and I swear that this company is the only roofing company that does it right.

The whole team was great to work with. Edlin (in the office) and Oscar (up on the roof) are great communicators. They came and tarped my roof Thursday, sent me the quote by the end of the day, got materials the Friday, and did the entire job Saturday. From when I called them to when they completed the repair (partial reroof around my chimney, and a vent repair/replacement) was just three days! I probably got lucky with timing or something, but they are capable of great things. They also charged a fair price. I wouldn’t hesitate to hire them again.

In the Portland snow storm of January 13, 2024, our skylight flew off and the snow and wind was blowing right into our house. I called Top Shield and they actually came out within a few hours and were able to seal and put the skylight back on temporarily to get us through the storm and the next few days. Those guys were up on our roof in the snow and wind! They came out on MLK day to install the new skylight. It’s just amazing that they even came out and are able to fix the skylight permanently in such a short time period.

Finally, they are just nice people! Super easy to deal with, professional and communicative. I don’t know what we would have done without Top Shield! They are hero’s!

Professional and detailed inspection of my roof and attic; provided pictures and written estimate with notes on each repair needed. Oscar was responsive and on time, and very knowledgeable. Office staff also very responsive and friendly. Provided pictures after work was done and explained additional options to extend life of the roof. Just routine maintenance for me, a small job, but I felt like they put just as much effort in as they would for a bigger job. Overall great experience!

The crew at Top Shield Roofing work extremely hard and diligently! I found a water spot right above my bedroom area and called them to inspect it. They came out right away and found the problem, took care of it and gave me a free assessment on my roof's condition. The office staff sent me updates promptly before 7:00 pm with pictures of the progress, they listed and took great care that no debris fell on my flower beds. One of the owners is the installer and he runs his crew with respect and quality.
