I am writing to formally express my deep dissatisfaction with the quality of essential operating appliances that were installed in my newly built home, and the appalling lack of accountability shown by the builder.

Upon general use and through routine maintenance inspections, the following were found to be glaringly inadequate and faulty. The refrigerator has failed to maintain a consistent temperature since the beginning, putting food at risk for freezing continuously. The “upgraded” water heater filled with rust and sediment that simply wouldn’t be possible unless a used or one that was sitting for a long period of time was installed initially. The supposedly brand new sump pump that was installed was in fact the opposite and faulty as it failed after one season of use.

It’s painfully obvious that the builder either selected the cheapest and lowest performance appliances and/or partnered with contractors that installed used and/or poor quality products. I’ve contacted Thomsen about the water heater and refrigerator. The first received empty reassurances and has since seen no action whatsoever. No technician visits. No replacements. Just silence. The second was inspected and told, it was just fine, which is completely false as it continues to be an issue. The third was discovered only after our entire basement was flooded upon having the first rainfall of this season. The plumber, our insurance agent, and the Water Mitigation company all stated that there is no way the pump that was installed initially was new, even someone who has never laid eyes on a sump pump before can tell that by looking at the removed pump. Pictures enclosed.

I purchased this home in good faith, expecting at least a baseline standard of quality. Instead, I’m stuck with substandard equipment.

I am strongly advising any potential buyers to think twice before working with Thomsen as a builder. If they cut corners on something as visible and essential as operating appliances, I can’t even imagine what’s hidden behind the walls.

Recently purchase a new home in Grand Forks and had a great experience with Thomsen. Specifically the local Grand Forks team went above and beyond to help me and my family get settled in the new home, always making themselves available and helping with all issues as soon as the come up with great customer service!

Let’s start with the good and why the three stars. Thomsen had great lot choices and an amazing (now discontinued) rambler floor plan. Korey was a great sales rep to work with. Everyone we interacted with at Thomsen was friendly and helpful with as much as they could be helpful with. Brandon was very good at fixing issues and assisting with what he could assist with.
The bad: Clearly higher ups at Thomsen are only concerned about their bottom line. Brandon and Tracy were helpful throughout with issues that came up, however there were multiple things that weren’t covered that one would think would be, but apparently higher ups didn’t think so.
Let’s start from the beginning. Thomsen doesn’t allow you to visit the home your building unless they are present with you. I highly suggest setting up multiple walk-thrus as their project managers are not catching the issues in your home. Our island was not in the location it was supposed to be and multiple lights had been covered by sheet rock that we had noticed during walk-thrus we set up. They were fixed, but it would have been a pain had they not been caught when they were.
Thomsen has you do a walk-thru a week before closing or so to catch “all” cosmetics. This is the only time they will fix cosmetics so you better make sure to catch them all. We had an issue with a scrape in the bottom of our stove as well as a dent in our range hood found during our walk-thru. What we didn’t catch was the chip in the floor that was clearly visible during our catch of the stove and Thomsen wiped their hands of it as we didn’t catch it the first time during our cosmetic checks.
I’ve included photos of the “rough grade” and how they left our window wells after our inspection resulted in them needing to be addressed for being bowed in.
Quality Concrete subcontracts with Thomsen and I’ve included their work to show our driveway and the voids under our driveway and main sidewalk. Thomsen all stated the voids aren’t their issue as their “higher ups” don’t believe the voids will cause structural issues.
We had a bathtub that squeaked when using the shower of it. At first they claimed they wouldn’t do anything and then after 6+ visits of different contractors it’s finally better, however there’s viable marks of where they put spray insulation in to help combat the noise. The plumber even told me they forgot to put felt down, but Thomsen did everything they could to not replace the tub. They stated if they had to, there’s a chance the tile around the tub wouldn’t match and they weren’t responsible for fixing/replacing all the tile even though the tub was their issue to begin with.

At the end of the day, we love our house and the floor plan. The higher ups need to do more to help their customers even if it means going after their subcontractors. I know for a fact the concrete issues and voids would be covered by the concrete company, but Thomsen didn’t want to deal with it. Maybe it’s more of a contractor issue that Thomsen should address moving forward.
It’d be 4 stars if there were contractors being held accountable and 5 stars if Thomsen would have gone after the contractors instead of saying the issues are not theirs.

We moved in August 2023 in WF we had a walk through of the house to find imperfections with blue painters tape so those issues can be fixed by Thomsen and that took an act of God and a lot of complaining and after 5 months those things finally fixed sort of speak. The backyard had a bad water drainage problem whichever turned our backyard into a swampy muddy mess and we where told this would be addressed and in spring of 2024 and they would have their landscaping company come and it taken care of properly I reached out them 3 times with no action taken and it now almost July and still nothing. The did even clean the patio concrete pad so we had to do that ourselves This has been a terrible experience when buying a brand new home shame on me for selecting Thomsen Homes.

We've had an absolutely great experience with Thompsen homes. Tracy has been very responsive to all warrant claims. There are for sure going to be times that things go wrong with new construction homes but any minor issue that has come up with us, they've been able to help us out one way or aanother. We love the house they built that we've been able to turn into a home.

They just take your money then NEVER fix anything. We have waited over 5 years for them to get someone to fix our poorly built patio and still nothing. We’ve reached out multiple times and all we get is the subcontractor is scheduled way out. 5 YEARS!!! I’ve turned away a lot of people from building with them because of this issue and I will continue to do so. No one has taken responsibility for our patio not getting taken care of especially in a timely manner.

My husband and I have purchased two Thomsen Homes. Regret both purchases, especially the second most recent 2024. Advice to others, research this company before you purchase. Talk to other buyers!!!!! Listen to them, and read reviews.
Update: Haven't even lived in our house 90 days, siding coming off on top westside of house already. Moved in March 20th and still do not have a working dishwasher, two days in, needed a breaker reinstalled. We built & owned an Eidco home for 11yrs with zero issues. For those of you who know about Eidco, i dont need to elaborate. If your a buyer looking for a new home, come and see their (Thomsen Homes) excellent workmanship firsthand beforeyou buy. Our house is first one on the corner of Maple Lake Estates.
UPDATE: Been in now 5 months. Dishwasher replaced, maintenance parts ordered on oven, box going to central air conditioner, wires melted, left without operational air conditioner over night as interstate electric has no after hours line. Circuit breaker kept blowing every time dishwasher ran, had to be replaced. Found out this weekend breaker box mislabeled. Turned switch off for master bedroom and familyroom went dark. Had to shut all switches down to find correct one. Basement bathroom floor had to be replaced, kitchen island top quartz had to be replaced. Master bathroom fan doesn't work, still not replaced. We've got numerous kitchen backsplash tiles cracked or damaged. Forms still on front steps from All Finish, called twice, nobody has come out to remove them. Serious cracking on front step in multiple areas around post. Large hole in siding in front entrance repaired today by Thomsen. Guy told me maybe I could change my negative posting about them and our house because he came out and fixed our hole in the siding..COMICAL to say the least i found his comment quite amusing. How about you quit building pos houses? Eidco homes back in the 80's were castles compared to these crap boxes their building!! My advice? Thomsen Homes needs to tell their employees to keep their personal opinions to themselves. Radon Mitigation system being put in, company just informed me given this houses short history, they're not comfortable wiring it in.....told me to get an electrician. Hope this review speaks volumes to future home buyers!!!

This is my third new house (third builder too) I have purchased in the past roughly 25 years. I can be very difficult to please as I tend to hold high expectations for those I give my hard-earned income to. I have seen good reviews and not good reviews about Thomsen Homes so I waited to write my review until our warranty period was over.
No new home build is going to be 100% perfect. I am happy to report no major issues with our Thomsen Home. No big issues with client services, communication, warranty work (all completed timely as situation would allow). Warranty work done has been satisfactory and above satisfactory. We have been very happy with our purchase from Thomsen Homes.
Only little quip is that I wish there was a garage door opener installed for the third stall door and spruce up the garage so it looks as nice as the rest of the home. I know it's a garage but still part of the purchase... right?
The team at Thomsen Homes and their contracted services have all been pleasant and always worked to make us happy. We LOVE our home and do not have any regrets.

I cannot express how utterly disappointed I am with the service provided by this company. I've had ongoing issues with them, and it's come to the point where I feel compelled to leave this 1-star review.

First and foremost, the lack of response from this company is baffling. I've reached out multiple times about issues in my home, and the radio silence from their end is frustrating, to say the least. It's as if my concerns fell into a black hole.

One of the primary concerns I've been raising is the drainage problems behind my property. Stagnant water has become a constant issue, and despite my numerous complaints, this company has not taken any concrete steps to address it. This negligence has not only impacted the aesthetics of my property but also raised concerns about potential structural damage.

Their responses saying it is due to fences not being installed properly is totally bogus. When the issues started the ONLY fence that was installed was a fenced installed by Thomsens. My fence install was pushed back several times due to standing water. They are trying to blame home owners for an issue that’s existed the entire time.

Furthermore, the promise of warranty repairs is nothing but empty words. They might say they'll return to complete these repairs, but in reality, they never do. It's been a never-ending cycle of unfulfilled promises.

I'm writing this review to warn potential customers about the lack of accountability and care exhibited by this company. Please think twice before engaging their services. My experience has been nothing but a headache and a waste of time and money.

We absolutely love our Thompson home. We LOVED working with Libby who went above and beyond in our design for us. We love our pond lot with our pond view. The choices for everything from backsplashes to light fixtures to flooring were abundant and allowed us to build exactly what we wanted. While we didn't fully take advantage of all the custom options (adding doors, adding windows adding garage space, adding concrete to the back) there are many choices that can make a home even more custom if that is what someone is looking for. I think the thing that most surprised us about the entire process was the moment we walked into the model home during the May Parade of homes (2022) we were promised a closing date (with out a contract).... the STUCK TO and LANDED that closing date. And with the one year warranty they have been amenable to fixing things that have come up that need fixing. I have recommended Thompson to everyone that has asked me since we started our process a year ago.

I closed my house on April 2021, after two year. Last month April last week, my sump pump went bad and my whole basement is gone, never expected the sump pump will go bad, came to know the pump they put was only one year warranty and it was not used by the plumbers. I also had very long time closing the vanity , then next neighbor after their closing they damaged my yard and did not correct it , overall very bad responses from the builder after the home is purchased and bad experience, seems they don’t care once they get our money

We chose Thomsen Homes to build our new family home. The entire process was made as easy and smooth as possible by their staff. They were professional and highly responsive at all times. We are excited to be moving in to our new home and are quite satisfied with our decision to build with Thomsen.

Don’t have customer service representatives if they don’t get back to you. Josh is awful.

Another update- our entire house has drywall issues a year later and they hired another company to come out and fix it. It’s now going to take a week to fix our whole entire basement. And there are also many areas upstairs that need to be fixed. This has displaced my whole family as it isn’t healthy to my 6 week old baby and 2 year old child to be there. Absolute nightmare.

*Update* our subfloor to our framing is not secure in one of our bedrooms, resulting in constant squeaking when you walk over that area- and you can physically feel the board move under the carpet. We were just told that this is a non warranty item and is not covered. My husband then simply asked what was covered in our warranty for flooring- and there was no reply.

People’s frustration is coming from the lack of empathy and communication Thomsen holds. They won’t listen and they aren’t willing to learn and grow- so these bad reviews will keep growing. I’ve had better customer service at a Jimmy Johns getting a $6 sandwich than I have building a home…

Hands down the worst customer service in the FM area for homes, warranty department does nothing but say it's "within standard' two years in and our grade hasn't been fixed properly, concrete is cracking and uneven and the basement toilet is leaking purple plumbers glue ruining the flooring (for the second time) as it was "fixed" previously. This was the second and last home that will be built with them, an absolute joke.

We closed on our house March 9th 2022 and our yard was left trashed and full of garbage. We’ve tried to contact them multiple time via email and phone call and have gone days without a response or when we do they blame it on the weather. As you can see other homes are getting driveways poured and have no no garbage in the yard and no one lives in it. It’s even to the point that our dog has cut his paw multiple times just trying to go to the bathroom outside.

Libby Martin was amazingly kind and attentive. She worked with my wife down to the final hours (literally!) to help make everything on our wishlist was accomplished. Korey made sure that anything that needed changing was accomplished. Luther was fantastic with his touch up work and completing our project on time. Tracy walked us through everything diligently at the end before handing us our keys. I'm sure some small things will come up but that is all part of a new construction build. We couldn't be happier with our new Thomsen home!

We enjoyed our experience with working with Thomsen. We bought one of their model homes, so the building process was a little different for us as the house was already completed when we purchased. A special thank you to Korey, our new home consultant, for all of his work with helping us get the home. He was great to work with and he was always able to help answer our questions. All the responses were provided in a timely manner.

1) During the design process we had a lot of drama due to the designer not liking the choices my husband and I liked.
2) They tried to tell us the doors we wanted did not exist when my husband had worked for the supplier and could give exact part numbers and locations in the warehouse of the doors.
3) Total radio silence during building process, often drove by home to find garage door open with house materials in there and exposed to elements and theft.
4) Poorly filled and colored nail holes
5) SPLOTCHY uneven paint that they refused to fix, painting professional told us it was from 1 coat only and people not knowing how to use paint sprayers.
6) Terrible sod quality and materials used to build deck.
7) Never properly fixed/sealed front door.
8) Messy and incomplete job fixing our CRACKED FOUNDATION.
9) Terrible inter office communications.

We are pleased with you new home built by Thomsen Homes. Their process is very efficient and well organized. They paid much attention to detail on the final inspection. They are up-front and transparent about their building process. Their staff is knowledgeable. Darcy Riddle was our main point of contact and she did a great job.

Thomsen Homes has been fabulous to work with. While of course there have been minor issues after we moved in, they have a super handy and easy to use website along with an app, both of which are used to file warranty claims. For important things they respond quickly and send someone out to fix them. For minor things like paint issues, they’ll fix them all at once closer to the end of the warranty period. I’ve been greatly impressed by how they’ve handled these warranty claims.

All in all they’ve been fabulous to work with and I’d recommend them in a heartbeat!

We worked with Thomsen Homes to build our first home and they delivered! Working with Darcy our sales consultant, Alyssa and Cydney our design team was smooth and successful. They were all so responsive and understanding of our needs and questions. I’m a back and forth person and the entire time I felt understood and was given options. They are Very professional and we were excited to even have our closing day scheduled earlier. It’s coming to 2 weeks since our move and wherever we look in our house it is quality construction and it feels like home. From meeting the team at the office to having everything come to life is surely an exciting and accomplished feeling!Thank you Thomsen Homes!

Loved a model home that I saw in February and bought (to be built) within days. The home was ready earlier than anticipated and was immaculate and darn near perfect at the final inspection. The staff was accommodating, always helpful and honestly a dream to work with! The process was easy, they kept me on track with prompts for paperwork and such, and provided detailed informational tips for the move and connecting with utilities. I literally completed setting up all my new local accounts within 30 minutes. Thank you Thomsen Homes for the quality home you built just for me and the easy, worry-free process you provided. I LOVE my new home and am delighted with the beautiful design, attention to detail and exceptional quality. Korey and Libby thanks so much to you both for the ongoing communication and personalized service throughout the process. I highly recommend Thomsen Homes. Ask for Korey. He is amazing!

Thomsen has been an absolute mess with trying to get our warranty work completed. I have been lied to and pushed off for nearly a year and a half just trying to get my grading around my house fixed. My grading has settled 8 inches or more on one whole side of my house and no matter how much we ask, we cannot get it fixed by them. All I keep hearing is that it will be happening soon. Incredibly disappointed with Thomsen’s warranty service. This has been a miserable experience.

Yes, another review! Thomsen Homes specials! They hire big companies to do their job, when issues rise, they won’t be there to help you! They will send over a guy who stares at the issues 1-5 times (visits at your house)
Than say the issue was resolved and it’s YOUR fault. Not theirs… ever. We are coming close on our 11 month walk through and our utility room has had water come in from the concrete walls for unknown reasons and guess what, yes Thomsen homes won’t do a thing to make it right! Lovely. Oh and “I’m a rude homeowner” and I’m “particular” who here would allow your brand new home to be full of claims with unfinished work that is being crossed off as completed, also who here would allow builders sub contractors to destroy your brand new sprinkler irrigation system than point them finger back at you? Does that makes me rude and particular? When will you make it right from the very first time we met with your famous words of trusting you and your company? Just because I call you out on your unprofessional behaviors doesn’t make me a rude person it’s holding you accountable for your promised words!

Thomsen Homes continues to exceed expectations. As a local Realtor, I can say their team is top notch! From the initial sales rep to the design team and all the way through closing. I'm a local REALTOR and work with many local builders. I've had past and current clients build with Thomsen Homes and have been happy with their ability to do things timely, work with individual buyers design ideas, and give very good value for the money. It's a competitive market for builders and Thomsen does their best to stay at the cutting edge in design & quality construction. I highly recommend checking out what they have to offer!

We love our new home built by Thomsen Homes. We were out of state and they were so accommodating with our schedule when we flew in to go over any details with us. Also the way they worked with us to make it a senior living home customized just for us was great. After move in of course there are always a few things that might shift around as with any new build in Fargo but they have been very helpful and quick to get them resolved. We couldn't be happier! We have been moved in a month now and just Love it! I highly recommend them.

My Wife and I chose Thomsen Homes build our house. They did it in an excellent and timely manner. We have lived in the home for about a month now. There have been no major issues thus far. I was blown away at the home buying and home building experience through Thomsen homes. As a first time home owner, they were extremely helpful in walking me through the process without making me feel like I needed to add more or spend more money than I wanted to in my purchase. From the design consultations to the walkthroughs and finished product, Thomsen Homes went above and beyond to make sure my home was exactly how I wanted it! Every detail seemed to be important even when I wouldn't even think about itI highly recommend the Thomsen home building experience.

Alyssa, our designer was amazing to work with! She made the process fun and did a great job of making our ideas come alive. Nate helped us navigate a mistake in flooring that was made and stayed in communication with us. He also was quick to respond to our agent.

The only thing we would say has been a bit disappointing is the quality of paint job that was done on our doors and cabinets. The ‘touch ups’ that were done are noticeable when the sun shines on them.

There's a resounding theme in a lot of the recent Google reviews here: poor communication; poor responsiveness. I can't reinforce that enough. We've lived in Bison Meadows by Davies HS for just over 2 years now. Since they filled in the lots behind our home we've had an awful drainage issue in our backyard where snow melt and heavy rains (and when neighbors over water) just pools up and goes nowhere. The grass would get wrecked, weeds would grow, bugs, etc. Finally something was done this past week. They got a landscaper to hook a drain tile line into a nearby sewer inlet. While I'm happy an effort was finally made to fix the issue, there was NO communication. No knock on the door, no call, no email, no memo letting us know there's going to be equipment on our property and work being done. Also no heads up that they would shut my irrigation water off at the spigot outside and then not get turned back on. Now even worse they ran over my of my sprinklers before putting new sod down so that needs to be replaced. Perhaps an honest mistake, the problem is again, I have no idea who they were, what the name of the company/sub was or what their contact info is to get them to come back and fix it. So I have to call Thomsen Homes to try and find that out. First try the warranty rep. Karin I believe was out to lunch; left a voicemail and didn't hear back. Called again the next morning, they were all in a "warranty/dept. meeting", left another voicemail that hasn't been answered yet. In the meantime my wife tried calling in and apparently Karin had answered and we finally got the name of the subcontractor and his phone.

We've felt multiple times that once you get past your 12 month warranty period, your priority is absolutely minimal, whatever issues you're still having and that seems to be pretty loudly echoed in many reviews. Thomsen responds to a lot of the complaints telling people to email or reach out to the warranty dept. and they will try and address the issue. That seems to be a moot point when voicemails and communication goes unanswered for long periods of time or even indefinitely. It shouldn't take that much on-the-job training or a college degree to be punctual in responding to customers.

Listen to these people who have bought from this company! We have been here in a brand new remodel home sense June 8th 2020... we are still waiting for our roof to be fixed that was checked as complete, our kitchen stove fan wasn’t attached and marked complete, our sod that was promised before we moved in still not complete!!! , our garage needed to be retouched with foam as it was leaking with every rainfall that was marked completed. This was all promised. The construction manager gets blamed than is telling us that we need to speak to Stephan and Carren for the office and they end up pointing the finger at the construction managers who I just spoke to and says I was abrasive towards him when he was being blamed from his own company!!!! We want sod that was promised and we want our home fixed!! Who would be just as upset as us?????????? I’m sure everyone who bought!!!!!! Our children can’t even go outside to play in their own yard!!!!!!!!!

The build experience was great up until closing after that it's ridiculous. Nate and Allyssa were amazing to work with during design. The warranty team is an absolute joke. They don't like responding to claims and when the do it takes them forever to get anything fixed. I wouldn't recommend building with them.

If I can give Alyssa and Nate 10 stars I would! I am beyond grateful for them and everything they did during the home building process.

Since closing we have had numerous issues with cabinets falling apart, trim, siding.

The biggest issue has been getting our escrow items complete. Any communication to Carin falls flat. Heidi is the only one there that tries to get information and gets back with me. It has been pulling teeth to get anything done. Was told by Carin my AC unit was to be installed on a Wednesday. Never showed. Finally when I reaches out they had no idea that my home was even ready for the install and was never on their schedule. No communication to Carin after repeated phone calls, voicemails, and messages. Items were suppose to be completed by the 30th of last month and here we are still waiting.

We had a horrible experience with Thomsen homes.

When we had a design meeting, we told them that we wanted a hood vent for our home since we cook a lot. Not until right before final walk through, we notice there wasn’t a hood vent, we told them about it and they said I didn’t wanted one even though it was listed on the design paperwork. They said it was too late to add one since they already have a microwave installed, so we were very disappointed in that.

Within the first year of owning the house, there were so many dry walls, walls cracked, appliances breaking down, paint on the doors starting to come off within the first couple months... Right before our 1-year warranty was over, Keith stopped by and fixed the dry walls.

Despite all the things that happened, we moved on knowing that we made a mistake choosing this company as our home builder... Then all of sudden our microwave STOPPED WORKING (this is literally just right after our warranty is over) We called them and they transferred is to Ferguson warranty appliances, it took us weeks to a get a hold of them and then said since it’s now after a year of warranty, they don’t cover it and there’s nothing they can do. We either need to pay for a new one and fix it but then it would be very expensive. We called back to Thomsen homes, explained what happened and they refused to help us since they don’t do extended warranty and that what “we paid for the base price..”

A microwave should have last for a long time, it shouldn’t just stopped working within year or two... Other things in the house also started cracking, breaking and it’s a hot mess.

Therefore, I would not recommend this company, building a home shouldn’t be this frustrating. Listen to other negative reviews, and consider them before you decide to go with this company. It’s a long term investment, they only care about taking your money and closing your home, you don’t really het what you paid for with this homes builder. Once closing is over, they don’t really care what you have to say.

Overall, poor quality, horrible customer service! I do not ever recommend anyone to go through this, specifically if this is your first homes!
