What people say about “The Westin St. Thomas Beach Resort & Spa”?

Customer feedback is mixed regarding the Westin Resort. While many reviews highlight the excellent service provided by staff members, like Claudia and Reese, several guests have raised concerns about hidden fees and issues with room conditions, such as inadequate air conditioning and cleanliness. Effective communication and attentive customer service were praised, though some guests experienced significant delays and unresponsive staff regarding their complaints. The delivery of additional services, particularly those related to the spa and room assignments, was also a source of frustration for some visitors.

We did not stay here, but we were staying at the Bouy Haus. However, we came here for breakfast at the buffet because the food at Bouy Haus was horrible. Our server, Claudia, was amazing always warm and welcoming with a bright smile. Her great energy truly enhanced our experience and made our visit enjoyable. If you go I would highly recommend to ask for her as your server.

I really HATE leaving bad reviews but I have to be honest and help others know what they are getting in to. My main concern is the spa on the resort (Westin Wellness) and my issues with the Spa staff. So many problems unresolved....

1. I booked spa treatments for me and my mother online, my mother's was 30 minutes and mine was 25. Once I booked the one thing I did not like was I got NO receipt to my email. I only knew the prices on the website which was 95 and 75. Thus, my total to MY knowledge was $170 and maybe some tax. I got emails reminding me of my appointment and I read ALL the fine print which told me the charges that would have been charged IF we canceled the appointment the day of. There was NO mention of a "service" charge or "gratuity".

2. Our appointments were at 11:00am but we arrived at 11:07am because we had to check out before(the check out line for the resort was long). So we get there and apologize for being late(keep in mind they were not busy at all, it seemed we were the first to get there) and then we each went to our respective rooms. My massage person stopped exactly at 11:24 and I was out the room at 11:25 so I essentially paid $75 for 17 minute massage. My mother also was cut off exactly at 11:29 and left the room at 11:30.

3. I understand they have to end at that time but it seemed very cold especially with how much we paid for it and that we ar guests at this resort. But, I understood that we were late and that was our fault. However, this is where it gets tricky. Once we left the resort I got a call saying my card declined a transaction for $222, I was in shock that this is how much I was paying because it was $52 more than anticipated.

4. I was told $40 for "gratuity" and the rest was a "service charge", I tried to explain to the salon people that I had no idea that I would be charged gratuity or a service charged. I only anticipated taxes which would probably bump it up to 180 not 220...

5. This was alarming to me because I only had $185 in my card to pay it off. I kept trying to get the spa people to understand that I could not pay the new price because in all my emails and communications no one mentioned these extra charges. Also, gratuity is optional and it was especially concerning that they expected me to pay forty dollars tip for a 20 minute treatment.

6. I kept getting calls repeatedly from different people at the same time salon during business meetings, on the plane, and during my leisure time essentially trying to force me to pay the rest when I kept telling them "How could I pay something that I had no knowledge about".

7. To this day I payed my $170 but they are still trying to charge me for the extra. Honestly, I am super disappointed. I am a content creator and I was ready to recommend the Westin to Everyone on my social media platforms but after this spa visit on my last day I take back anything good I said about this resort. I am so appalled by the rude treatment at the spa and really never want to come back here. I told them, "I will pay the extra charge if I need to but I will never return".

That is my experience.

Staff was nice, place was beautiful, I disliked the hidden fees on arrival, if you charge something to your room and they feel like you will go over the deposit they will take another deposit without you knowing just in case you go over. There’s a daily 75 dollar resort fee & a daily 200 deposit for each night stay. Beautiful but wouldn’t stay again.

This place is excellent experience exciting and extremely nice.it needs nightlife, the people who work there are amazing.Andrea at the front desk should be a part of management she is that good.I hope the hotel will make it happen.I stayed in room 1516 and recommend this hotel.I surely will be back soon. The food needs some tender care!

I was initially skeptical based up the reviews. Upon checking in the staff was professional and provided exemplary customer service. The room had an amazing view of the ocean. Shanique and Kamilah were amazing.

When planning our family vacation, we absolutely fell in love with the photos of this resort. As a Marriott Bonvoy premium member who has stayed at many Marriott properties, we felt confident booking our stay here. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to expectations.

Upon arrival, we were told we’d been “upgraded” to an ocean view room. While that sounded great, we quickly realized the elevator to our room was out of service. This meant taking a different elevator down one level, walking down a hallway, going out two doors, through the convention rooms, across the resort walkway, and then up three flights of stairs. Normally, that wouldn’t be a huge issue, but after a long flight, taxi ride, and hauling all of our luggage, it was exhausting.

When we finally got into our room, I immediately noticed it only had one king bed and a pull-out couch. For a family of four, I specifically booked two queen beds. The floor was sandy (understandable at a beach resort) but clearly had not been swept. There was also a black dirt spot under the TV, like the floor had never been mopped.

I called the front desk right away to ask about my original room type. I was told the resort was at 100% capacity and that the pull-out couch would “work fine.” I asked for linens, a comforter, and pillows for the couch and for someone to sweep the floor. I was told no one was available for cleaning, but linens would be delivered in 20 minutes. Three phone calls and three hours later, the bedding finally arrived so I could make up the couch for our girls myself.

The next day, I again asked room service to clean our floor. Instead of cleaning it, the housekeeper told me she was too busy because she had other rooms to clean — but handed me a broom and mop so I could do it myself.

The views of the island were truly breathtaking, but unfortunately, the service quality quickly overshadowed that beauty.

Breakfast at the buffet was $30 per person and, frankly, not worth it. Later, we dined at Luna Mar, where we were offered sparkling or distilled water with our meal — only to later discover the water cost $22, something we were never told beforehand. We expected resort pricing, but we also expected transparency and service to match.

Throughout our stay, we often felt ignored by staff when we had simple questions.

One of the biggest disappointments happened on the third day. When we checked in, we were told we could enjoy the amenities at both sister properties. After spending time at one of those pools for a few days without issue, we were suddenly asked to leave because we were staying at The Westin. I explained what we were told at check-in, but the staff insisted we leave. It was not only awkward but deeply embarrassing — especially after how much money we had spent on this trip.

Finally, once we returned home, we noticed we all had multiple bites all around our ankles, legs, and arms. The bites look very much like bed bug bites — an extremely unsettling and disappointing discovery after an already frustrating stay.

This resort is undeniably beautiful, but the service, communication, cleanliness, and overall experience did not meet the standard we’ve come to expect from Marriott. Sadly, it turned what could have been a dream vacation into a frustrating and uncomfortable experience.

A Perfect Getaway – Westin St. Thomas

My husband and I stayed at the Westin St. Thomas last October and had an amazing experience from start to finish. The service was warm and attentive, and every staff member made us feel welcome. Our room was spacious, beautifully maintained, and had a breathtaking view of the bay.

We especially loved the food—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, whether we were dining at the restaurant or enjoying poolside snacks. The private beach and peaceful atmosphere made it the perfect romantic escape. We left feeling refreshed and already dreaming of our next visit!

We were excited to get an upgraded ocean view room. Upon entering our room there was a brand new pedestal electric fan which I thought was odd. The room never got cooler than 75 degrees. The next morning I contacted guest services to get the AC repaired. The AC never got fixed. I had to ask to get another room only to be told by the manager of guest services that “we are at 100% capacity tonight and maybe a room could be a possibility tomorrow. I finally fought to be moved to another room at 8 pm. The room was smaller and the air quality was stagnant. What a shame as the appearance of the property is awesome. Food and drink prices were high. Two of my four nights were stressful. So much for a relaxing vacation!!!

Location is nice. Service not so much. We were assigned a different room from what we booked upon check in (however, they quickly fixed that issue). We didn’t have hot water for a couple of days; we discovered a small roach climbing up the wall in the bathroom; the air conditioning unit didn’t cool the room off very well; service was VERY slow and sometimes non-existent and lastly our room had a very damp, mildew smell.

Our stay at The Westin was truly wonderful. The aesthetics of the property were beautiful, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The kids especially loved the pool area, and the ocean view from our room was absolutely stunning.
We want to give a special shoutout to Zelek, Andrea, Kara, and Khymoi, they were incredibly helpful and informative throughout our stay.
The only issue we encountered was with the water temperature, which fluctuated between hot and cold intermittently. Even after changing rooms, the issue persisted, which was a bit inconvenient.
As for dining, Luna Mar Restaurant was just okay. It lacked side options suitable for kids, which . We highly recommend walking over to The Salty Shack, right next door. The food there was delicious and offered many more options — a great choice for families.
My family and I want to thank General Manager Alyssa, who was so warm and welcoming. She made us feel truly appreciated with her kindness and gratitude and she also recommended restaurants for us to try out back home in NYC.
Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely return!

overall I give this place a good review,it's just a few things that can be better to improve the resort..it's plenty of activities/excursions to make your trip a special one never a dull moment..The restaurant quality is not great the only restaurant worth the money was the salt shack..

The $75.00 dollar a night resort charge is ridiculous especially since our room never got cleaned once by the hotel staff..The ice machine was broken for our entire stay, you would think with rooms going for almost $500 dollars a night the least they could do is provide ice cold water throughout your stay..

Sunset sail is a must 110% pure class and professionalism if i could give ten stars I would, the drinks and the food was awesome if you visit st this adventure is must do..overall I had a good stay just giving my 2 cents to make the place better..

Absolutely Stunning Resort with Outstanding Service!

Our stay at the Westin Resort in St. Thomas was nothing short of amazing. The facility itself is absolutely beautiful — from the pristine beaches to the well-maintained grounds and modern amenities, everything was designed with comfort and luxury in mind.

What truly made our visit unforgettable, though, was the incredible staff. Jorge and Kiara went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with our stay.

Highly recommend this resort for anyone looking for a relaxing, top-tier Caribbean getaway. We can’t wait to come back!

We stayed there a couple weeks ago paid in full. When we got there they wanted our card on file to have a 200 dollar a day holding charge for incase damages. Well when when we left few days later they charged us 920 dollars for whatever reason. We left the place spotless no damages. We've called and call just get the run around and put on hold for hrs. On top of that we had all included breakfast and they tried to charge double for that too. So watch your statements if you go to this place.

Room smelled sour and the large floor rug under the beds was constantly damp from the high humidity. We set the thermostat to it's lowest (65) as soon as we got in the room and it's been rubbing constantly for three days now and it's only 76 degrees in here. I haven't been able to sleep well this entire trip cause it's too hot and humid in this room. We were told someone would come and check it out, but nothing.

St. Thomas is absolutely breathtaking. The views are stunning, the weather was immaculate, and getting around the island was incredibly easy. The taxi drivers were consistently friendly, warm, and hospitable, making us feel safe and welcome throughout the trip. The island itself feels like a hidden gem—peaceful yet vibrant, and very easy to navigate.||||The Westin Resort is beautifully designed and sits in an ideal location. It’s centrally located, making it convenient to access both city attractions and local shopping. The property is expansive, with access to shuttles between locations and reasonably priced taxis to take you into town. However, it’s important to note that this is not an all-inclusive resort, so guests should plan their budget accordingly.||||While the resort has a lot of potential, especially with its stunning backdrop and prime location, I was disappointed by the overall hospitality experience—which did not feel reflective of the Marriott brand.||||From the start, the required deposit hold was unusually high, and the front desk interactions felt transactional and at times unwelcoming. Several staff members—including at the bar and restaurants—seemed disengaged, curt, and less than accommodating. For example, at the Lana Del Rey restaurant, our food took nearly an hour to arrive, was incorrect, and had to be sent back. At the pool bar, we were surprised by a cold interaction from the bartender when asking about service timing. These instances may seem small individually, but they add up and can leave a lasting impression—especially when guests are paying premium prices.||||The customer service inconsistencies continued at breakfast. While our hostess and server were kind and attentive, the staff at the omelet station were noticeably unfriendly. During what we were told is the resort’s slow season, our room was not refreshed until after 3 PM most days. One evening, housekeeping didn’t arrive until nearly 7 PM. We also had to repeatedly request towels and washcloths from the front desk. While that alone could be forgiven, we also experienced an issue with ants in the bathroom—likely due to humidity—but it was still unpleasant.||||Despite these concerns, I want to acknowledge that some staff members were kind and professional, and I do believe this resort has incredible potential. The setting is nothing short of paradise, and with more consistent and elevated hospitality, the experience could truly match the environment.||||My recommendation to management would be to invest in more frequent customer service training and real-time feedback loops—perhaps through guest surveys or pulse checks during the stay. Many of the service gaps we experienced felt like missed opportunities to delight guests.||||Overall, I would still recommend the Westin in St. Thomas for its location, views, and natural beauty. However, I hope to see a renewed focus on service excellence in the future to truly meet the standards that travelers expect from a luxury brand like Marriott.

I spent four nights here and was provided with a complimentary upgrade to an oceanfront balcony room before arriving at the property. I assume this was because of my Titanium Elite Marriott status, but it was still a great first impression.

I opted to self-park each day, but was still charged the valet rate. The cars use the same lot, so there is no difference in price if valet is used or not.

I was provided with a late checkout via the Marriott app, but the onsite hotel team told me that they would likely be unable to honor it, as they were busy on the date of my departure.

The programming on the schedule started in the late morning hours and ended in the early afternoon each day.

Overall, the stay was good, and the view from the room was fantastic, but communication could have been slightly better.

Excellent quiet location with convenient beach access (and a shuttle to take you there and back). We tried most of the property's restaurants and all of the pools, both very nice while viewing the ocean. Great sundries store, check in and out was efficient.

Our stay at the Westin started off a little rocky coming from a previous 2 night stay at a boutique adult only hotel which we loved. My fiance was here for his 40th birthday and I wanted to make sure everything was perfect. After the first night we voiced our concerns to the manager Frank who was on top of it every step of the way. He was able to change us to a better room and even sent us bottle of champagne. We really appreciate this level of customer service and will definitely stay here again. We also love the adult pool and how they have a day party on Sundays. I think adding some activities would liven the crowd more and more diverse music but overall we had a great time.

Really loved my room, amazing view of the bay and always had cute cats running across the lawn in the morning. The excursions were my favorite part of staying at this hotel, big kudos to the sailing and night kayaking crew for making things fun.

However, I found some things frustrating. The edge bar was very dirty and in desperate need of skimming or tile cleaning. There was also a daily maintenance fee that is not disclosed upon booking. It would not have altered my choice to choose this location for my vacation; but, knowing this ahead of time would curb a lot of confusion upon checkout.

The lack of variety in the restaurants is very disappointing. When I am on vacation I like to sample local cuisine. The amount of times sushi showed up on the menu is ridiculous (no conch at all?!), and, the sushi itself was sub optimal. It would be in the interest of the head chef to offer more variety for patrons to really get a feel for the islands and local culture. As a huge foodie I was most excited to see what the hotel could bring to the table and was let down almost every meal.

There also needs to be more places in check to ensure minors are not allowed in adult areas. An incident occurred wherein minors were given alcohol at the edge bar and were being very belligerent to other hotel guests. This is very alarming and I hope this can be corrected before something serious results from this.

I don't think I would stay here again but the time I had while here was fantastic and I thank the staff for their kindness and commitment to ensuring guests enjoy themselves.

This resort was beautiful and luxurious and we had an amazing time. Andrea and Jevon at the front desk were the first people to greet us and were so warm, welcoming and accommodating. It really set the tone for a great experience at this property.||I also loved that we had several excursions that left right from the dock at our hotel making it easy and convenient to participate in activities without traveling far.||I am taking away one star for the limited food options. The restaurants were rolling out new menus when we were there and the options were very few and expensive. The brunch buffet was delicious though!

Location is amazing. Service is up and down. during the two days, there were great help, and care less. Rooms seemed clean, till I found one bug alive. Notified desk immediately. They said they would send someone up to spray. No restitution offered. Put it in garbage can. Property, overall, is awesome, with evidence occasionally of lax maintenance, and sometimes impressive. Pools are great. Restaurants usually good, everything is Super-Expensive. Hate Sunday DJ at adult pool, (way too loud) but towel lady said previous weekend was good.

We have stayed at this property for many years as a Marriott resort. I have over 3000 nights at Marriott properties. After the restoration and rebranding of this resort we wanted to go back and have those same great experiences. We didn’t!!! The place has been sectioned off with access to the ocean pool not available to all guests. The dope smell and drug use was everywhere and truly disgusting. We had a guy in a drug induced stupor try to feel us up at the pool, the guests were twerking, it was an awful experience. The staff was completely clueless and disrespectful to us the entire time. Will NEVER spend my vacation dollars at this “resort” again. Go to one of the other properties on the island. We love St. Thomas and am so disappointed that my time was waisted at this location.

While the room itself, plus beach and pools, were nice, we had multiple issues. We went without hot water for 2 days. We also had to repeatedly ask for towels and housekeeping. The dining options on-site were very limited, and what they had was IMHO way over-priced. Individual staff were very polite, but I think as a whole there are high-level issues to work through. We would not stay here again if given a choice.

My husband and I took a trip to Saint Thomas in April. While we encountered several issues during our stay and were ultimately disappointed with the overall quality of the hotel, we have to give a huge shoutout to Frank at the front desk—who we affectionately began calling “Front Desk Frank.” Frank went above and beyond to make things right and did everything in his power to ensure we had the best vacation possible. His kindness, professionalism, and genuine care made a lasting impression. This 4-star review is entirely because of him—Frank deserves 5 stars!

I’m currently at Frenchman’s Reef in St. Thomas and had the pleasure of dining at Sugarfin Restaurant. As a regular guest, I always look forward to the experience—and once again, it did not disappoint. My bartender, Sonell, was an absolute delight. Her warm personality and consistently excellent service truly stand out. The food and atmosphere were amazing, and the service continues to be top-tier. Sugarfin remains one of my favorite spots on the island.

My sister & I booked a stay here last minute & we’re blown away by the beauty & location. The lotion in our room was already opened/used but other than that it felt very cleanly. I had to take off points for service because both waitresses we had at the pool bar were so rude & I couldn’t tell if they were on drugs because they both had sunglasses on the whole time. They asked us multiple times if we were staying at the hotel which seemed a bit rude especially since we already had a tab open & she also happened to know our room number off the top of her head after we confirmed we are guests (with an open tab???), & we also sat there waiting to put in a food order for over 30 minutes & they waited until the kitchen closed to take our order. They were weird about closing our tab as well as giving us copies of our receipts so we are going to be keeping an eye on our credit charges for a little while. Other than that, all the other service was amazing & everyone was very pleasant besides those two waitresses. There’s also a 20% tip already included for restaurants so don’t be fooled or expect the pool bar waitresses to impress you with their service!

Would not return here. When I first arrived service was not very friendly at all. Also agree I did not get any information at checkin regarding the resort fees. I am not surprised as I travel a lot and see this all the time but $75 is a lot considering it’s not all inclusive and there is not even a courtesy bottle water in the room when you first arrive and are tired. The idea of filling a water bottle, but I have to go down to the lobby in the middle of the night with one functioning elevator is unfortunate. Breakfast was mediocre. Toasters were broken. Service at the pool bar was disappointing. Room was beautiful and the phone operator was very nice but that was it.

Giving this place a one-star review honestly—and sadly—still feels generous. Let’s get into it:

We arrived a little after 4 PM and were told the room was ready, but that they would double-check and update us. What should have been a brief wait turned into an hour-long delay. That update never came, so my boyfriend had to go to the front desk to inquire. When I walked up and overheard a staff member speaking to him, I was disappointed to hear her speak with a smile on her face but in a sarcastic tone. It felt completely uncalled for, especially considering the delay was the staff’s fault, not ours. Very unprofessional from the beginning.

We were “upgraded” to a suite for the trouble, but upon walking in, it was obvious the room wasn’t ready for guests. The air conditioning was off, leaving the room warm and muggy. Neither the downstairs nor the upstairs thermostats worked. The downstairs bathroom was dirty—there was a hairball and other debris left in the toilet, along with leftover body scrub in the bathtub from a previous guest. Hair behind the toilet indicated that the cleaning staff doesn’t thoroughly mop between guests.

The quality of food at every resort restaurant is absolutely not worth the price. Even without alcohol, you’re likely looking at a $70+ bill before tip for two people. The wait staff generally had an attitude and gave off the energy that guests were an inconvenience.

Calling this resort “beachfront” is a stretch. Yes, you can walk to the beach, but the walk from your room to a beach chair is about 15 minutes.

There was hardly a time during our stay when both elevators were working. Guests were literally rushing to squeeze onto the one that did.

There is a $75 daily resort fee that is not openly discussed at check-in. Whether or not it’s disclosed in fine print, it should be stated clearly at the front desk. Booking sites do not include this information, and quite frankly, that seems like a communication issue between hotel management and the booking platforms. It shouldn’t be up to the guest to hunt for information when “all fees are included up front.”

When we inquired about the resort fee, we were told it was for the gym, pool, and Wi-Fi. Fine. But the phone service—even on Wi-Fi—was slow and spotty. The gym clearly isn’t where the money is going, and the infinity pool had mold all over the plaster.

When I checked the website to see what the resort fee covers, I saw drink tickets were listed as part of that daily fee. That doesn’t make sense, considering the drink tickets are advertised as “complimentary” upon check-in. Bottom line: this property is charging hundreds of dollars per reservation in resort fees year-round, and it’s clear the fee is nothing more than a money grab. With that kind of revenue, the property should be updated and in pristine condition at all times.

Needless to say, we will not be back. We left feeling like money was wasted from beginning to end. The mention of St. Thomas and the Westin name might sound like luxury in paradise, but honestly, resorts in Mexico are infinitely better—better properties, better food and service, and far better beaches.

Hotel was nice, food was good but a little overpriced. The workers over there were rude and did not seem to care about the work they were doing and it would give me bad vibes every time I encountered the workers. They would just make you feel like you were doing something bad. Overall a decent stay though!

Nice spot for a tropical layover at a premium price. Decent pool.
Service is very slow all around. No door or bellman at the entrance both times I need one. Waited over 10 minutes and had to flag random employees off lobby.
Metal water bottles in rooms with hydration stations in lobby, so not sure why another reviewer said they paid $10. (Perrier in resto, Maybe?)
Breakfast buffet pretty standard fare but $40. Had to beg for first coffee and refill.
Nice view off lobby, but not spectacular.
Not interested in returning.

The resort was beautiful. I gave three stars because I am not happy with the hidden charges of $75 dollars per day that I was not aware of and was not told to me when I checked in. I had to find out through my bank statement and after I call them they told about the resort fee that I never knew about. I was also unhappy with the room that was first given to me with no elevator access, only stairs. But they did switch me to another room after I requested the change. The resort was great, just need to be more informative of their fees when guests check in.
