We contacted this company based on existing online reviews because we have an older cedar shake roof that needed cleaning and conditioning. From the very beginning we were extremely pleased with the timely response we received from this company's owner, Chad Westover. When Chad came to personally inspect our roof he provided information regarding the work to be done (including the option to include some repairs) and explained the process to be utilized, He provided an immediate estimate that remained the same amount that we were actually charged.

The work was started and completed in a timely fashion and we are completely satisfied with the resulting outcome. Chad and his crew were extremely respectful towards us and our property during this job and did a great job of cleaning up when they were finished. We really appreciated Chad's dedication to customer satisfaction and his outstanding communication skills in maintaining contact regarding work schedules, status of job and also checking in on his crew.

We will not hesitate to contact Chad in the future for our roofing needs and consider him and his company to be honest, reliable, skilled, and of the highest integrity. We not only gained a revitalized roof but a new friend during this process. Thank you Chad!

Chad has taken care of our shake roof for decades. Each time the roof is thoroughly pressure washed, damaged shakes replaced and then a preservative treatment is applied in the color tone you select. Whatever Chad applies last for three to four years and looks great. It seems other firms offer two color - red or washed out beach look. We like the honey tone color of new shakes. Excellent service and job performance on my cedar shake roof, cleaned it thoroughly of every spruce needle that was embedded into and between the shakes and applied a high quality preservation oil. Roof looks great and will stand up to the elements and protect our investment.

Update: (changed from 1 to 4 stars) While the initial interaction was not as expected, Chad did reach out about a week later to follow up and offer a quote on performing a roof replacement. Although I had already chosen another contractor to do the work, Chad's quote was competitive and he was honest and straightforward and committed to being more up front and open when it comes to providing quotes in the future.

I have no clue if this company does good or bad work. I have no clue if this company has good rates or not. This company expects you to just choose them without any quote or estimate. The purpose of getting quotes and talking to the contractor beforehand is part of the selection process and anyone who blindly chooses a company without doing so is rolling the dice. My experience matches others who called The Portland Roofers looking for a quote - I was effectively told to call back when I'm ready to hand over the money and have them do the work - and put blind trust into them doing a professional job at a competitive rate. It is my opinion this company preys on those who don't know better. Again, they may do great work and have great prices, but attitude and professionalism go a long ways in choosing a contractor, and this company is disrespectful and not professional at all from my experience.

I never thanked Lawrence and you for fixing my roof leaks. I climbed up on the roof yesterday and looked at the chimney pan flashing repair that Lawrence did. I saw it and thought "This is a thing of beauty. There is no way it leaks anymore." I just went up in the attic and checked. The leak is fixed. Also the other leaks at the eaves appear to be fixed, too. Thank you and let Lawrence know he does great work.

Wish I could give them ZERO stars!!! Local small business in need of 1 (one) gutter repair or replacement so we called and left a message to ask someone to come out and give us an estimate on either replacing or repairing 1 (one) gutter on a very old well known and respected property in Portland. Return call response was $275 for the first hour and $150 for every hour following, refused to come and even take a look without making a $275 deposit. When I repeated my request for a free estimate I was told "when we are done with all the other head scratchers and want the job done right to give them a call and pay the money and they will come do what they think needs to be done". When asking why he was being so rude he began yelling into the phone, this is when i thanked him for his time and hung up while he continued to yell. This guy sounds like an arrogant, angry and ignorant man, even if their work is great we will never know due to extremely poor customer service and communication.

This guy is an asshat. Very threatening demenor when we asked him to slow down in a neighborhood. He then proceeds to ask if i live at the address im at.. Then scopes my licence plate.. Id never want this guy near my house with his disregard to peoples kids and pets.. Creepy for sure.

You charged my 78 year old mother $18000 for a new roof when the contract was for just under $10000! Then you came back and spent a half an hour taking items from my mom's yard AND my yard! You were caught on video STEALING! My mom's NEW roof is LEAKING! You are not getting another single penny! That's elder financial abuse at its worst! You will be prosecuted! YES YOU ARE A THIEF! IT'S ON VIDEO! YOU TRESPASSED ON MY PROPERTY AND STOLE FROM ME! YOU TOOK ITEMS THAT WERE NOT GARBAGE AND WERE NOT LEFT OVER FROM THE CRAPPY JOB YOU DID! MY MOTHER TRUSTED YOU TO COME AND GET THE 2 AND 1/4 SHEETS OF PLYWOOD THAT WAS LEFT OVER AND YOUR CHECK! YOU HAD NO RIGHT COMING ONTO MY PROPERTY! It's posted NO TRESPASSING! There is a fence seperating my property from my mom's property! My niece doesn't live there anymore and what difference would it make to you who lives in my mother's house? I turned your letter of admitted theft over to the cops. LIES? IT'S ALL TRUE! We have also contacted the news! I want to make sure you NEVER do this to anyone else! We will have pictures of the leaking roof today as proof! Have a great day Chad! I like all your FAKE reviews given on the day of the theft! Trying to cover your tracks? Sorry but $10000 that can be seen? We have cancelled checks! And as to your previous reply that you have changed about not having leaks in the new roof, you sent a guy out and THERE WERE LEAKS THAT HE FOUND! Call me a liar again? There IS a fence up! Do I need to post a picture of the fence to prove it or were you to high to notice you had to walk behind the fence? I have screen shots of every time you have changed your response!

Chad asked me to write a review today based on my experience with him earlier this year. A tree fell on our house during a storm. I called The Portland Roofers. Chad answered the phone. Chad was very straight and to the point. He took a $475 deposit by sending a service agreement through QuickBooks. I read the terms of service and made the deposit online . Two hours later Mark of Elite Tree Service came to remove the tree from my roof. Same day service just like Chad said. Chad came later that same night in rain gear wearing a head lamp and attached some type of waterproof material to our roof in such a way that it withstood the wind until he could provide us with a new roof. Chad explained how they would replace the roof in very simple way without without His crew began replacing our roof the next time weather permitted. The Portland Roofers fixed the framing damage that the tree caused to our roof. Chad added blown in insulation and improved or ventilation system in the Attic. They also repaired our fence and deck and replaced a section of gutter. All of these things were also damaged by the tree that fell during the storm. Chad and Mark billed my insurance company separately. State Farm insurance was great during the whole process.

BEST ROOF EVER - Portland Roofers are the best roofing contractor and quality driven company I ever met. Their work ethic is superior and my new roof is beautiful. My job wasn't even close to being easy from what 10 other roofers told me and it showed in their bid. My roof had 25 years of dry rot and extreme structural damage that required a contractor not just a roofer. The 10 other companies acted like they couldn't handle it but The Portland Roofers said "No Big Deal". The best part about this company is they are reliable, honest, down to earth and just good people, and they keep their word. Once I saw them in action replacing beams and dedicated to doing the job right not just slapping it together, I was stunned. They gave me the lowest bid out of 10 companies and they didn't pressure me or request all the money upfront before starting the job like the other guys did. I will only work with this company in the future for roof cleaning, roof repair, and any other jobs relating to my home.

I had Chad and his crew do our roof last March. He was very helpful and professional every step up the job. They went above and beyond to make sure we got the best roof we could. Our old one was in bad shape and leaking in our garage and arrive space. Chad explained exactly what would be involved in the job and how much everything would cost. There wasn’t any surprise up charges at the end of the job. They showed up on the date the said they would and finished on the date that was promised. After reading some of these one star reviews I feel some people like to leave bad reviews for everything. Give these guys a chance and you shouldn’t be disappointed. I love my new roof.

I get that everyone needs to make their money. I get that different people do different things and that Chad prefers to work with a deposit. What I don't appreciate is threatening tones and lack of patience. Maybe when you talk to your customers you can stop talking about making money and show more concern about your customer's needs? Your call, though. Your business.

Chad was very helpful. I maintain several buildings and he seemed very honest and frank. I believe I will be calling him back for future work.

This company is completely rude & unprofessional! Simply called to see if I can get an estimate for roof repair (not a full roof replacement). After being told that's not worth his time because he wouldn't make any money he then proceeded to lecture me about me about how I'm the type of person who is going to get multiple estimates. All after he said he wouldn't even consider my job. Felt belittled and lectured by this man and will never EVER consider doing business with this company in the future.

Fast, quality repair job was done on our home in the prime of roof repair/replacement season. We called Friday afternoon and had the problem fixed by Monday afternoon.

The "no BS" attitude turns some people off who need that special touch but I appreciated Chad getting down to business and being honest with me. I too am busy and just want the problem fixed. I did not feel taken advantage of at any time. For repairs, the $1,000 retainer thing makes sense to me.

Roof repair has to be worthwhile to the business. Bidding out repairs takes time and if you've tried calling around town in July, everybody is 2-3 months out or is simply not taking new customers.

I called 13 roofing companies. Of those 13, 4 were 1-3 months out, 2 said they weren't accepting new customers, 1 was only doing complete replacements, 2 took 3 days to return my VM, 3 never returned a call, and the last one was The Portland Roofers.

The $1,000 retainer makes perfect sense to me given the market and what their business model is. Whatever is unused from the $1,000 retainer can be used on future work, which is perfect for us.

Two years ago I had a bad experience with this company which was never resolved. They are now under new management and took the time to contact me (2 yrs later) to apologize for the previous bad experience and offer to make things right. We reached a mutual agreement and I was impressed by their effort. It makes me think the new management is eager to live up to their promises and is much more customer oriented. If I need roof work in the future, I would give them another try.

Texted them to ask about a repair for our chimney flashing, a chimney cap, and a roof cleaning, they said I would get a faster response if I texted on their voicemail. His response was to ask for my address then direct me to pay a $500 deposit on his website. Said I could get a better idea of pricing there. I looked around on the website but all I could find was a minimum price and a PayPal button, nothing on repair costs. I asked him if he could give me a ballpark for flashing repair since that was our first priority and if the entire flashing needed to be replaced if part of it is missing. His response was to say I would know the total after they did the work and that:
"If it is a priority make deposit today will send a roof for tomorrow you can be home and watch the entire time that he is working the entire time you pay for the time and the materials. Did you not read what it says on that page of our website?????????,?"
It was the rudest response to a question I have ever gotten, I told him that I needed at least an idea of cost and that he was being rude to me. He said I didn't understand that he was trying to help me (by insinuating that I was an idiot and refusing to answer a question) or his business model and that there were plenty of people who appreciate him. That he would spend all day on the phone if he answered questions yet his home advisor description states: "I look forward to answering any roofing questions you have."
I reminded him that I only asked one question and his business model is fine if he would take the time to answer a question about his business model and the job. He then told me another customers FULL NAME and said that they had just made a payment on the website and were pleased. Nice privacy for your customers man.
I don't care if you don't do estimates, but answer a question with respect to your customers. Just because you understand exactly how you do business doesn't mean everyone else does.

They have a minimum charge of $380. It is openly stated but really high compared to other places in town. I was in a bind with a bad roof leak on a weekend so I agreed. Roofer came out Monday and fixed some cracked sealant around a small vent with some putty. Fine. But then they told me on the invoice that I really need a new roof. My roof is only 5 years old and several other contractors have recently remarked about how good it appeared. This seems disingenuous.

Great experience working with Portland Roofers. The owner, project manager, and workers were all honest, hard working, quality people. They really worked WITH me, every step of the way, to make sure I got a product I was happy with. My new roof and gutters look great. They are a small business, who will make your job a priority, and you'll feel good about giving your business to real family-people.

Chad Westover was so rude and very unprofessional. I called to ask if he or someone can come fix the leakage and we didn't care how much we would spend as long as it was fixed by today Chad went on about how a review gave him a 1 star review and that he done with roofing. I was just show on how rude he was on the phone. I told him never mind and that I was going to my business somewhere else!

Wouldn't tell me what materials he planned to use, wouldn't give me an estimate on materials or labor for a little 500 sq ft ADU and required $200 to come take a look. Then wrote me back to say he'd blocked my email and phone #. That was the most considerate thing he did! When Chad started copping an attitude - my response "No thanks!"

Absolutely thorough and professional job from quote to finish. Thank you Chad for the increadable roof job on our home.

Removed moss and cleaned gutters. Did excellent job and even found slight damage I wasn’t aware of and fixed that. Very nice. Also did an excellent job of clean up afterwards.

Andon was an absolute pro! He made my roof look like new. The gutters shine and flow like the day they were originally installed. I was really impressed with the clean-up as well. For as much moss, leaves and gunk that were on my roof, there was no mess left behind. I would highly recommend The Portland Roofers to anyone, with a special thanks to Andon for doing such an outstanding job!

TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE. I called for someone to give a quote on several small leaks in one of our commercial roofs in Portland, and "Chad" said that he wasn't going to give me the time of day unless we replaced the whole roof because "there wasn't any money in repairing." After I explained that I work for a large company that is always looking for an exclusive vendor, Chad literally laughed at me and told me I was wasting his time. Great. There are literally dozens of other roofing companies out there, I urge you take your business elsewhere. You will NOT be treated like a valued customer with The Portland Roofers.

UPDATE: Less than 2 hours after I placed this review, Chad calls me to try and talk me into taking it down. Of course he takes a different tone with me this time and tries to explain his thought process to me. I almost considered taking it down because I felt bad for the guy, but he should have considered that the first time I spoke with him and not after I posted a 1-star review for his customer service. His potential customers need to be warned of the level of service they will be receiving by going into business with this company.

Extremely disappointed in the customer service - or entire lack there of.

This company is not only very unfriendly but seems to value big money jobs over customer service. I called about some minor roof repairs and was told "the money in roofing business is in roof replacement not repairs", which true or not is no way to make an customer who calls about repairs feel more comfortable with the company.

I assume that since my job was deemed as a lower money making project it seemed that if I wanted my repairs looked at I was going to have to do most all the leg work by making calls to the company's roofing foreman etc, etc. A company with better customer service probably wouldn't make the customer make all the calls.

If you call this company for repairs be prepared to be: undervalued as a customer, make multiple phone calls because there is not one number you can call, be told your project isn't where the big money is.

Chad and Angel’s crew over delivered on my new roof. They were extremely polite and extremely fast in getting a gnarly tear-off done, dry rot fixed and roof on. Best of all, my yard looks better than it did before they showed up. Overwhelmingly a positive experience!

Jessica gave a very thorough explanation of the roofing process and of various options (including possible tax credits) to consider in terms of roofing. She was very helpful with shingle color selection, and when she gets a Virtual Remodeling App, I know she'll be able to help even more. She also patiently went through each component of the bid to ensure we knew what we were paying for. She's clearly committed to getting the job done right.

We had a positive experience with The Portland Roofers from Jessica coming out to give a bid (with a new toy for each of my kids!) and providing a thorough description of the products and process to respectful workers who picked up all of the debris throughout the day. We love our new roof and would recommend this company as being competitive in price while providing a top quality product. The follow up and customer service by Jessica and Angel was above and beyond our expectations.

I called 503 New Roof, for a client of mine. I am a mortgage banker. Chad answered the phone, went out within 24 hours, to bid the job. Finished the job within the same timeline he originally gave me. Came in within his bid, I closed the mortgage ahead of time. The client is extremely happy.

This last rainy season caused several leaks in my roof. I called Chad on a Saturday evening, he and his crew got put plastic over the leaky areas and got me a quote for replacing the roof on Sunday morning. They were able to replace the entire roof and fix my broken chimney later that week.

I was out of town for the entire process. I don't think I could have managed it with anyone else. I highly recommend The Portland Roofers for both the speed and quality of their work.

Awesome job cleaning my cedar shake roof. Angel definately knows his stuff and Chad was very helpful throughout the whole process. I can't believe how clean and beautiful the cedar looks now.
