The Gutter Gopher

Inquired about coming out to repair the gutters and the drain for my 3 story home fixed. I Indicated to him that a home inspection found a gutter with a negative slope holding water on the backside 3rd floor. I also indicated that the drain that the front gutter dumps into is backed up and water was flooding out where the gutter drain went nto the drain pipe. He told me it would be $65 for the service to inspect and most of the time it can be corrected in the first hour or 2. If it was going to be longer then his rate was $35 per hour. The guy Tyler went out to work on it, showed up with no ladder or way to reach the third floor. He ran a hose into the down spout drain and confirmed that the 4" corrugated drain pipe was indeed backed up as I had told him. He was unable to locate the exit of the drain line and did not have a shovel to trace the drain line. He did not try to snake out the drain line either. No ladder no shovel no snaking. He basically hooked up a hose and said yep I see the one problem. After that he said he could come back out but he needed me to sign a No Harm waiver in order to proceed with the work. I asked why he need a no harm signed contract and he said to avoid lawsuits. I asked if he was bonded and insured and he said he was insured. His comment was if I had a claim filed against my insurance they would raise the rates on him. This seemed very shady to me and made not want to use the guy. A guy wants a minimum call charge, comes out with not the proper tools to do the work required then after looking at the work says he requires you to sign hold harmless after he shows up where you waive your rights to if he damages things he may claim to be defective or not of quality. Oh and yes the guy still wants his $65 for coming out to fix a problem without the proper tools for which the issues were identified up front. I am finding another person that comes prepared and is honest up front about what is required for him to work.

We moved into a new home that had really full gutters. We were also having a new roof go on in a few days. Gutter Gopher owner, Alec, rearranged a few things to be able to help us before the roofers arrived! He did a superb job and was so meticulous moving patio furniture back exactly where it was supposed to be and the price was great!
