The Backyard at Meehan's

Really enjoyed this spot! You definitely feel chill backyard vibes from St. Augustine. Although our food took a bit longer that we expected, once we ate it was delicious! Good spot to come have a drink and relax if you’re not busy.

Food was delicious, large portions, service fast and friendly. Great value for the money. I would definitely come back whenever I visit St Augustine

great little spot to listen to music, have a drink &/or a bite to eat and listen to live music. Be forewarned, it can get crowded, (it's small) and is often standing room only

A group of us (10 people) tried to go here tonight- most have already been here before- it’s Saturday night so they of course had a person checking ID’s and decided to turn me away saying word for word:

“It’s 23 and up, there’s been too many fakes.”

Those in our group that have been here obviously were dumbfounded and asked when was that rule put in place and:

“They just started the rule yesterday.”

We thought the guy was messing with us being that I’m 22(close to 23), handed him my CDL and I guess he just decided me out of all 10 people conveniently couldn’t go in so we gladly left taking our business elsewhere.

If he for some reason had suspicions on if my ID was fake I would’ve had no problem giving another form. But making up a very specific rule on the spot to turn only myself away is a little ridiculous.

The Backyard at Meehan’s is a great place to grab lunch in St. Augustine. It’s got a cool outdoor atmosphere and they are pet-friendly so if you’re visiting with your fur baby, be sure and stop here! Try the Tommy Dolan if you’re in the mood for a great bacon cheeseburger. If you’re looking for some Irish fare, you can’t go wrong with the fish and chips. It’s very close to Castillo de San Marcos as well as the popular St. George Street. Do the fort in the morning, grab lunch at The Backyard, then do some shopping on St. George in the afternoon. Just be aware that parking can be very difficult to find close by. If you can’t grab a spot on the street or at the fort, try the Historic Downtown Parking Garage.

Eric, the bartender, was so awesome. He accommodated both days we went there. One person in our party has dairy allergies. Eric got with a chef to ensure her food was prepped without dairy. He remembered us from the day before. 4/3 and 4/5 2025. Great place.

Only place I've found stateside that has Smithwicks on draft. Service was great, food was delicious, and the beer was phenomenal. Definitely will be back

We passed by this location earlier in the day and came back in the afternoon for lunch. So worth it the food was amazing. The burgers here were incredible. The food came out very quickly and the servers behind the bar were very attentive. The prices for the 3 burgers and 3 beers was under $60. Not bad for 3 people. They had live music on the outside where we were sitting. The inside is an amazing looking Irish pub. The bar was beautiful. They also have an area in the front where you can sit outside facing the street and the Castillo de San Marcos. Definitely worth the visit if you are in the St. Augustine area.

Limited time only free sunshine is NOT true. As you a clearly see I am drinking and there is no sunshine as it is nighttime outside. Absolutely a SCAM!!! Everything else is great tho.

We decided to go in because the tables looked nice, however, when we went in all the ones with fire pits were occupied, so we sat at a regular one, and as soon as one became free we moved. I felt that the wait time for the food was long and the taste of the food was not the best. Although the food is not bad, I think it is a place I would not go back to. The service is good and the place is nice, but their dishes are not good, although they are not disgusting like their bathrooms, which by the way are shared with a bar where drunk people come in.

I had delicious meal l ate the whole plate . The waitress was friendly and helpful. I recommend this restaurant to all

I don’t like leaving bad reviews. Unfortunately we did not have a great experience. Firstly, after we ordered, it took a really long time before we got food. When we did, the man who brought it to us was rude and confused us because we asked for a Meehan’s Chicken sandwich, and he called it something completely different, then raised his voice at us when we tried to figure out if we got the right food. The man eventually did walk back and make sure we got the right order, then came back out and said we were pronouncing the name wrong which confused him. The guy basically got mad at us for mispronouncing the food which was pretty unprofessional of him. When our original waitress came back to check on us, we tried to ask for the name of the guy who gave us the food and she wasn’t very sure and said “we all work together if there is an issue you may ask him about it”. When my fiancé got her food, her Pita bread looked like it had gotten cross-contaminated with some other food. Lastly, do not drink the water here. It tastes disgusting. I am not sure how to properly describe it, but its taste is similar to the smell of gasoline. Not sure why water would ever taste like that. Ended up walking down the street to a snack shop and getting bottled water to supplement this restaurant’s water. Overall our experience here was pretty bad and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Was here during the Christmas Eve time (about 3 weeks ago). Not many places were open...which was to be expected. But The Irish Pub attached to this is killer. Love the ambiance of both Meehans (Backyard) and the (Irish Pub). A definite must while in town.

Great place, food and service but it was slow to get the food. But really enjoyed it when it came!

Went for lunch, it was steady but not busy. Service was timely and friendly. We both had burgers with fries. Fries were cold and not crisp. Burgers were ok, one was undercooked. I also had a draft, a half and half, it was more like a one third/two thirds. Overall ok meal, be ok to go again in a pinch.

After having such a good experience the night before on second floor inside we decided to give the backyard a visit yesterday.
The live music was amazing!! The drink were wonderful but what made this spot extra special was our server Mary. What a lovely person. She made great suggestions and had such an upbeat bubbly personality.

Reuben sandwich was Amazing! Wait staff was friendly and on top of their game! Wind spilt a drink, and they were on top of the cleanup and free replacement! Definitely recommend!

Stopped for a lite bite.
Live music. Good atmosphere. Had wings, Rueben rolls and smoked fish dip - the fish dip was particularly good.

The food was pretty decent. I had a burger with coleslaw and pineapple chutney on it (I can't remember the name of it) and some French fries. And the atmosphere was very friendly and inviting in the outdoor area. The bar seemed to be a little high for the chairs, so it was a little difficult to eat, and I felt like a little kid. But the waitress and clientele were friendly. I'd go back.

Yummy food and live music! The Ruben was delicious. We tried to conquer the shark bowl but didn't quite finish.

Wonderful shrimp! FYI, it comes with a lemon rind but looks like a pepper...DO NOT BITE INTO IT! Other than that, wonderful!

wonderful atmosphere and service. The drinks were wonderful as well. The clam chowder was absolutely delicious and I would get that again in a heartbeat when we come back. The French dip was good, but I have had better. Same for the mac & cheese.

Our server, Kristy, was great, super nice! The buffalo oysters were absolutely amazing! Best buffalo sauce I have ever had! I will buy the first case if ever bottled! Love the atmosphere, always a favorite!

We waited 20 minutes before we were event asked for drinks and then another 20 minutes before an order was taken. We received our apps with no silverware, plates, or napkins. I eventually went to the bartender to ask for silverware and napkins and he stared “whatever man, we’ll help you shortly”. However, he had no problem hitting on the locals. Completely unprofessional business.

Worst bar ever, my friends and I were pub hopping for a wedding party. I was DD, when my friend (who was getting married the next day) tried to enter the bar they refused service, when he asked why, he got sucker punched in the face by the bouncer for no reason, they proceeded to punch his dad who came up to ask what was going on and pushed his sister who had just had surgery on her ankle. It was so stupid, they didn’t answer any questions just started swinging like it was no ones business. Worst bouncers ever!!! The cops came and said it was no fault! Ridiculous!!! They should be held accountable for their terrible actions! I demand these bouncers be fired, tattoo arms short(night of May 26th 2024) Terrible place! Never go here if you want to have a good time, I wish I could give zero stars or negative stars. (Posted on both their, pub and backyard section) update!!** they pushed his sister so hard that she broke her ankle in three different spots!! You guys will pay for their incompetence I promise!!

Terrible place. If you want to be assaulted by untrained bouncers, whos only option is just punching people come here! If you want to have your night ruined by a pub then this is your place to be. Terrible service, bouncers whos de-escalation tactic is to surprise punch you in the face without any verbal warning over asking a question about admission. Owners wont even respond back with apologies or a stance on the action that was taken. Unbelievably unprofessional.

Best Reuben south of New York. The bartenders and wait staff are amazing. It's a great place to meet friends or make new ones

Absolutely our favorite bar / restaurant in St. Augustine. The atmosphere, food, and service is consistently fantastic ! The prices are very reasonable and the portions plenty. I would highly recommend The Backyard at Meehan’s, you won’t be disappointed.

We had a great time at Meehan’s. Went there twice. We had the best service at lunch. (At night, the bartender will give you whats the most expensive to boost their bills.)

I had the fish sandwiches and it was delicious! I recommend!!

We thought we weren't going to be able to get in because the place looked so crowded for lunch, but that was the front of the building. Do yourself a favor and go around to the back. Much more open in terms of seating. Less of a hustle and bustle feel. The wait staff was very nice, super friendly and very attentive. We all loved our food! The fried oysters I had were probably the largest I'd ever seen. The Mac and cheese with bacon was absolutely delicious. The piece of fish with the fish and chips was huge The only complaint was the Ruben egg rolls. So you might want to avoid them. We would absolutely return next time we're in town.

It has been a while since we were impressed with literally everything that came out of the kitchen! Some of the best fish and chips I’ve had. Wings are amazing, try the screaming whiskey sauce!! The Rueben rolls are fantastic. We had multiple styles of baked oysters, all soooo delicious. And some of the absolute best key lime pie!

We weren't greeted when we walked in. The patio was not busy. Some staff were in uniform some, some weren't. Ordered a drink, it had a fruit fly sitting on the top. I pointed it out to the staff member and I said, can you please remake this?

I witnessed him "filter" my drink. He returned the same drink to me sans fruit fly and I asked, is this my original drink. He said "Yes". I asked "Is this acceptable to you?" He said he would remake it, but would charge me for it! I asked for a manager. It took a couple minutes. He said he'll remake it for you. Then he didn't tell him to remake it! Horrible all away around.
