Finding a custom home builder, who does net-zero homes, is a little like a leap of faith. We did research and hoped the positive reviews were true, but we really didn't know what to expect. TC Legend wowed us, and we are super happy with the experience. They worked with our budgetary constraints and made suggestions on site selection and house design. Just as important, they navigated the morass of county regulations to smooth the process for critical areas mitigation and get the appropriate permits.
We wanted a passive house, and they built us a fun, gorgeous, super efficient, super insulated passive home. We love it and are very happy that TC Legend is helping us tread more lightly in this uncertain world of climate change.

Jake, Ted, and the TC Legend crew are an amazing group to work with. They kind, fair, and build homes that align with the actual needs of their clients. Their homes are thoughtful designed and priced competitively. They aren't like many of the other builders that will push you to build a unnecessary and inefficient mini-mansion that just returns the maximum profits for the builder.

TC Legend built our house based on our collaborative design and it is fantastic. Our house is energy efficient and has a perfect layout for our family. It was also built for a very reasonable price compared to other builders and buying an existing inefficient, smaller home. The team at TC Legend is professional and personable and encourages involvement in the design and build process. We highly recommend them to everybody we know and have a lot of fun showing off our rad house to everybody who visits.

We first contacted TC Legend in August 2020 as lumber prices were skyrocketing, supply chains were breaking down, and we were still in the process of closing on the property. By early December we had worked with Jake to settle on a general floorplan and budget, by late April 2021 we were breaking ground, and we moved in to our new home early December 2021. Even more impressive than achieving this timeline amidst the most difficult home building environment in ages was the fact that we also stayed on budget. Much of that success owes to the fact that the team at TC Legend was extremely accommodating in helping us find ways to save money and in allowing us to take ownership on large portions of the project to keep the costs down. Norm and the rest of the crew were an absolute pleasure to engage with throughout construction and we are very happy with how the home has turned out. Thank you TC Legend!

TC Legend Homes worked with us over a two-year period to help design an energy-efficient home for our eastern Washington property. Jake and Ted followed us through the process of creating a set of engineered plans that met our local building codes and could be implemented by a local builder.

The home design incorporated TC Legend Homes energy-efficient principles and utilized Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) for exterior walls and roof. The southern-facing location of the home and the design maximized solar potential for a future install. The concrete floor and radiant floor heating kept our home toasty in the cold eastern Washington temperatures this winter. The doors and unique window style and placement took advantage of views of the river and local mountains from throughout our home.

Now that we have completed the construction of our home and have been living in it for three months, we know the resources were well spent. We really are pleased with our new home and are thankful that we worked with TC Legend Homes to develop a plan that was able to be implemented by our local builder.

We love our home! This team knows their stuff and worked closely with us to create a space that fit our needs and our budget. We were fortunate enough to be able to be onsite often during the build and I was repeatedly impressed with the quality and precision of work. Everyone was fantastic to work with and really helped us out when we had permitting issues with the county. The final product is beautiful as well as eco-friendly and efficient, and we love living in it. I wouldn't build a house with anyone else.

Working with TC Legend Homes has been a great experience. After the purchase of a building site on Orcas Island, my search for an innovative firm to design and build my dream home began. We wanted an affordable, energy efficient and custom designed home on an island with numerous impediments to such a project.

From the start we depended on Ted’s superb knowledge and experience with energy efficient technologies. The firm’s designer, Jake, was a joy to work with and I imposed upon him far too often without complaint. He saved me from numerous errors, unneeded expense and walked me through a tangled San Juan County permitting process I would have struggled with.

Ted leads a great crew. It is fabulous to watch true professionals work with SIPs. There may be other projects in my future. I hope to build again with TC Legends Homes. Highly recommended to all.

I had been thinking of adding on to my house for some time but really didn’t have a great way to do it due to the nature of the existing structure. I reached out to Craig and Norm at TC Legend Homes and they got me in touch with their designer Jake (Powerhouse Designs).
We were able to work through some concepts and find a solution that seemed to work well for the property in conjunction with the existing building. Jake drew up the blueprints for a new ADU and got the structure through engineering while Craig and I worked through the budget numbers and financing hurdles. Before long we had an approved building permit from Whatcom County and were ready to break ground.
The build went very smoothly and completed in about 3 months through the winter. TC Legend managed all of the subcontractor work and kept the project right on budget, always letting me know if there was capacity for cost savings or any tasks that I could tackle myself to save some money here and there.
At the end of the build we have a terrific building that has stayed warm and comfortable through some of the coldest temperatures I’ve encountered up here in northern Whatcom County.
It was great to have TC Legend as the contractor to pull together all the necessary resources to make it all possible. The whole team was great to work with and they are all very nice down to earth guys. I would highly recommend TC Legend Homes to anyone with a construction project in mind!

We contracted TC Legend Homes to build a house for our family with the goal of accomplishing the highest standards of green building while staying within a limited budget. Ted and his team were fantastic partners in the process. Aside from the great client-builder relationship, we were particularly impressed with Ted's skill to design for efficiency (in terms of cost, space use and energy performance), with the openness to apply innovative approaches and the practical and solution-oriented attitude. Our project turned out very well (even winning awards!) and TC Legend Homes remained a trusted partner who's been available even after we moved in. Would highly recommend this builder!

I would build with them again and again.

Service questions
1. Should I stay home during roof replacement?

It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
