My family lucked out with having the opportunity to live in a home built by Straight Ahead Construction. It’s a dream home nestled in the boreal forest. All of the details of the home were well planned and strategically selected. The home is beautifully built and a major bonus is the energy efficiency which has saved our family money in heating and electric bills. Mike has been great with communication and I highly recommend when considering a build or home renovation. Very high quality craftsmanship and design!

Mike built a beautiful house for me and my wife. Stunning to look at every detail was carefully considered. So many small items which I never would have thought of make it so nice to live in. He put a special outlet by the garage door for a boot drier, a sink in the garage, the freezer outlet is in the same circuit as the garage door opener so you know right away if it trips, I swear there is an extra heating loop by the toilet because that part of the floor is always warm. Just really nice well thought out things.

Mike is a true professional craftsman and after living in my beautiful new home for a year now I can say his work holds up. There were a few items I didn't understand and when I called him he was super friendly and responsive on helping me figure out the problem. 10/10 would call for construction projects.

I recently contacted Straight Ahead Construction looking for advice on a construction project I was involved in. Even though Mike was not going to help me with the project he took about twenty minutes out of his busy schedule to answer several questions and put me at ease. I really appreciated the advice and time he gave me. Great guy.

Mike and his crew did a phenomenal job replacing the roof on our split level. Not only did he fit me into the short building season, he finished on schedule. Of particular note was how he finished off the trim/flashing. The original roof had short flash between the step down to the garage. He flashed it from top to bottom! This was over and above what I expected. He was also able to repair a section of ice damage under the estimate. He'll be my first call for any home construction needs in the future.

I hired Mike and Straight Ahead from Anchorage to repair damage to a client's property, the communication was professional, the work was done quickly and was great quality. Super appreciate it!

My husband and I were very impressed with Straight Ahead Construction when they replaced our roof this summer. We are even living out of state and felt completely assured we were getting quality work done on our rental house in Alaska. Mike was SO helpful and professional every step of the way, so easy to get ahold of, patient in answering any questions, and offered many helpful suggestions and explanations for us as we were making decisions on our roof. In the end we decided on a green roof color, which he said was out of stock with the regular company he uses, but he took the initiative to locate another company who sells a green color, and was able to special order it for $500 extra (simply due to different pricing from that company), which we decided was worth it. Before choosing Straight Ahead, I got quotes from several other roofing companies in the area and found Straight Ahead's pricing to be on par with the competition, but I went with Mike because of his clear communication over the phone and his quick responsiveness, and his candidness in making recommendations that showed me he really cares about his customers. He truly goes above and beyond and you will not be disappointed with the process or the results. He even sent me pictures of the house to show progress and the finished product without me asking for pictures, which I thought was very considerate. We will definitely be calling them again if we have any other roofing needs!

We have had 3 different projects done that included a new roof and some dirt work for a drainage problem around the house. The work was done quickly and professionally. We will continue to use them for other projects in the future.

Mike was professional and so very easy to communicate with. He sent his crew out to completely replace our roof! The roofing team, Jordan and Michael, did a phenomenal job. Jordan is extremely hard working and went above and beyond to help us out and explain everything he was working on. This is just a wonderful group of guys and we could not have asked for a better team. Highly recommend!

Straight Ahead construction added a bathroom in my 1940 house basement and I couldn’t be happier with the work they did. Not only they provided advise on what do to with the space, they also worked with me to help me save a bit of $, and I appreciated that they worked with me despite being a fairly small but complicated job (old house, weird plumbing, etc) . I really enjoyed working with Mike and would highly recommend him.

They made sure every part of the work was done very well, above and beyond what we expected. The price was reasonable. We had our roof replaced and gutters installed. They were careful to aim the gutters and downspouts how we wanted them. The main person doing the work was very friendly, kind and would communicate with us to make sure everything was ok. Mike was also very responsive to emails. They are also going to install a piece in our sewer vent so that it doesn't freeze in the winter (an issue with off-handedly mentioned and Mike offered a solution for).

Mike with Straight Ahead has been amazing to work with for our siding project on our small-ish house this summer. He worked with us, was responsive, flexible, and showed up consistently to make sure all of our questions were answered.

Most important, the work was BEAUTIFUL, on time and on budget.

12/10 would work with Straight Ahead again and again.....in fact we’ve already got him lined up for Inside work this winter!

Absolutely excellent customer service and frequent communication and updates through the entire remodel process of the bathrooms, kitchen, and during major drainage work. The quality of work was beautiful and completed within the expected timeline. I returned several times to Straight Ahead for work on my home and will not hesitate to call again for future projects.

A friend recommended Mike for our large project. Since mike’s schedule was full, he recommended a fellow contractor who was able to take on our project. Mike could’ve just said sorry but he gave of his time to connect us to another contractor he knows and trusts.

Mike worked with us on everything from the design, budget, scheduling, all the way through to the finishing touches. There were no surprises and they finished right on schedule. Excellent, professional, quality, responsive, caring work and service! Mike even scheduled our mega job + coordinated its completion within a weather window which accommodated complete removal, repair, and replacement of our deteriorating roof prior to a week of constant rain and torrential downpours. Thanks Mike, for the excellent scheduling, and to all of the crews/crew members for the caring and professional work which now has us comfy, cozy, dry and warm under our steel roof with foam insulation! And, just in time for the rain . . . we are enjoying the music of the rain falling on the roof, and then down the gutters.

Straight Ahead Construction replaced the shingles on our roof this month. My wife and I built our house ourselves, and we're fussy and invested and care very much about the quality of work that goes into our home... But, the original asphalt shingles were thirty years old and it was time to let someone else take over.

We could not be more pleased with the level of work Straight Ahead Construction did. The crew was professional and friendly. Every day they cleaned up nails and leaves and debris and made sure everything was in shape. They communicated at every point, discussed questions, kept us in the loop, gave us choices and helped us feel as if we were a team working together. They actually made improvements by repairing the main plumbing vent in the attic space.

They met every request we made, from the new ridge vent to special consideration on our drip edges and plumbing vents-- we couldn't be more satisfied. They were even considerate enough to ask how late in the day we would be comfortable with their long work hours!

Originally, we wanted to build our house on our own, but after a few years of slow progress and work schedule restrictions, we realized we needed outside help to achieve our goals. Straight Ahead took our original home designs and provided us with realistic options to accomplish our vision.

With the help of your crew, we were able to achieve the dream of our custom home. Throughout the process we discussed different options at different budgets, and the clear presentation made decisions easy. We always looked forward to having your crew come out and work on our house because they are a fun, professional, and uplifting group of people to collaborate with. You and Bruce, your foreman, were always willing to share ideas and give input, providing solutions to design problems and challenges that were thoughtful and creative. Your guidance on subcontractors, and the best means to meet our goals and timelines saved us time and hardship.  Your attention to detail and care in delivering a quality product is evident throughout our new home. We are proud to say that our home was built by one of the best crews in Fairbanks.

Straight Ahead Construction does a great job! Mike and his crew are very hard working, courteous, and experienced. We truly enjoyed having them working on our home - after so many weeks they were almost like family.
Most importantly, they did a great job of working with us. Mike agreed to meet with us even though he had a nearly full schedule. We had a fairly large remodel planned and Mike listened carefully to our needs. He found a way to make our plans work on our timeline, when other contractors turned us down.
He gave us realistic estimates for the work, his crew was always on time and cleaned up every day before they went home.
When changes needed to be made, we discussed options and knew the costs before moving forward.

Residing of 1938 Home in Fairbanks Ak.
Original siding was T&G Clear Douglas Fir, applied directly to the balloon framed construction, which over the years had seriously deteriorated. Straight Ahead, took on this project, removed the old siding, (and sawdust insulation, installed new foam insulation, replaced several windows, and installed new cedar T&G siding matching the original profiles, assisted with correction of deficiencies found during demolition. Great job, wonderful communications, great crew. on time and on budget. Was a fun project, and we are very happy.

We hired Straight Ahead Construction to do some renovations on a home we just purchased in Fairbanks. Mike was in touch with us from day one, he had excellent suggestions on design and local materials usage which we were really grateful for, and which looked great in the finished home. We had a variety of work done, flooring, painting, electrical, and the work was top notch, we were super satisfied with our home, it really has a great first impression now. It was dated and in need of some love, but it really got brought forward about 50 years. I think most importantly though for us, beyond local and natural material incorporation into a fine finished look, was the fact that the team at Straight Ahead was really easy to communicate with and when they said "this will get done on ______ day" it was done on that day and it looked great. Our bamboo floor looks awesome, the paint and light fixtures really shine, and later we called for a plumbing reference to get some work done in that area, and the guy they recommended did a great job. It can be stressful to put your home in someone else's hands,but we really wanted a professional look and that's what we got with Mike and Straight Ahead. If we need anything else renovated or built we hope they'll have room on their calendar for us as they've gotten pretty busy! They're good dudes.

I hired Straight Ahead Construction to do exterior finish work on a 2-story, 1,200 square foot home. The exterior finish included corrugated steel siding with a generous amount of cedar accents. The job went well beyond typical exterior finish work: among other things, SHC reworked the foundation and framed in a ground-level garage, installed exterior foam on the walls, beefed up the roof insulation and air space, and installed a large exterior deck. My wife and I continued to live in the house for the duration of the project so we were able to meet with the crew and monitor jobsite progress on a daily basis.
During the planning and design phase, Mike showed me some of his past jobs, and was generous with his time in discussing pros and cons of various options. We were able to bounce ideas of each another until we came up with functional, affordable solutions and a really sharp look for the house. The crew was reliable, with no delays or stall-outs, and I was impressed with their attention to detail and the overall quality of the workmanship. The job really did proceed “straight ahead.” They were also very friendly and easy to talk to. Mike and his crew have many years of experience in cold-climate construction in Interior Alaska and we really felt the difference last winter. SHC was easy to do business with and there was no nonsense when it came to the billing.
SHC did a terrific job on our house. I am very pleased with the results of last year’s construction season and would not hesitate to recommend SHC to my friends and family—whether for new-build construction, remodel, or for finishing up an existing project.

Last spring I discovered some wood rot at the base of the wall in my garage. I contacted several contractors to get quotes on the repair. After contacting Straight Ahead Construction, Mike came out the following day and gave me a thorough assessment of what needed to be done and assured me my garage wasn’t going to fall in on it’s self before repairs could be made. So with that information I took my time and got several quotes. I decided to go with Straight Ahead as Mike seamed very knowledgeable and honest. When I let Mike know I wanted him to do the work he informed me what his schedule was like and when he could start work. When his team arrived I was happy to see how quickly they went to work. There seemed to be a good game plan, and their work was well orchestrated. I was very pleased with the level of professionalism and good communication throughout the process. The work was finished in less time than originally predicted and ended up costing less than the original estimate. Over all I couldn’t be happier with the work done and I would highly recommend Straight Ahead Construction to anyone looking for honest quality work.

"Straight Ahead has done it again for me! First they modified my front deck with new stairs and railing, now they’ve made the most beautiful deck at the back of my house. It’s the attention to detail that I really love about their work. There’s an extra handrail built in to the back steps and an extra wide top rail around the deck so I can set out flowers. AWESOME! Mike Knoche and Straight Ahead Construction undertook a major home renovation on our 28 year old house. Essentially they did a highly energy efficient roof replacement, added an upstairs bathroom, a bathroom remodel downstairs, flooring install, and drywall repair.
Despite a very late spring that caused our project to begin much later than anticipated, Mike kept things moving along smoothly from one part of the project to the next. Plumbers, electricians, painters, etc., were all lined up and ready to begin work as soon as needed.
From the beginning of the project to the end, Mike worked with us to ensure that we stayed within budget while getting as many home improvements and little luxuries as possible. Throughout the entire home renovation (and even afterward) Mike was always available for a quick consult or to share his creative flair and expertise as we tried to decide on materials and fixtures.
I very much appreciated that the house and yard were kept as clean and neat as possible given the scope of work.
Our renovated home is warmer and more comfortable than it has ever been. The bathrooms and finish work are beautifully done. It would be difficult to overstate how much we are enjoying our “new” home.
