From our first visit with John Stephens to discuss our project to the final walk through after the project was completed, it has been a pleasure to work with Stephens Landscaping. Our problem was a sloping beach which was increasingly difficult to walk on and was slowly eroding into the lake. John listened to our concerns and gave us several options of how to create a safe beach as well as a comprehensive plan to manage water runoff into the lake. We had ample opportunity to change elements of the plan as it progressed. By the end of the project, we had a beautiful perched beach with stone retaining walls and stairs which have saved the beach area as well as a comprehensive system of pipes and drywells to manage the flow of water around the house and beach for many years to come.

The team was professional, polite, respectful of our property and very helpful answering our questions. We were very impressed with the responsiveness of all the team members to whatever concern we had. We have received numerous compliments about our new perched beach with stone retaining walls. We are very happy we chose Stephens Landscaping.

Stephen’s built us a front porch, and a newly landscaped front walkway and new flower beds. The project is beautiful, adding a custom designed porch and landscaping that was on time and budget. They have great craftsman, both on the building side and with the unique stone work design for the granite walkway. They were very professional and responsive. Good people to work with!

Very very clean. Parking is easy, even with the big truck.dont know about prices so you should call. Easy in and out also.

John and Rhonda and their fabulous crew did a full landscaping job on our property a couple years ago to address major erosion issues, and we continue to be delighted with how effective and beautiful the result is. Yet we aren’t ones to typically have a landscaping company take care of our property throughout the seasons. We decided to give them a try and can say it was a fantastic decision. The teams who work on our property are always professional and thorough. And every single year the tree looks as beautiful on the day we take it down as the day it went up which spans 5+ weeks. It’s a great experience!

We have used Stephens Landscaping for all of their professional services. They beautifully transformed our landscaping by replacing walks, building patios, building stone walls, building stone steps and handrails, adding shrubbery, flowers, an irrigation system and a waterfall and fire pit.
we have also used their seasonal services and they are very efficient at plowing, shoveling our walks, and general maintenance jobs.

First, my apologies to Hunter and his team for taking so long to post this review.

We hired Stephens to do a substantial bit of both landscape and hardscape for the lake house we recently completed. I’ve work with several very good landscape designers and contractors over the last few decades and Stephens is right at the top.

We were very interested in having the grounds around the perimeter of the house appear mostly natural and respect the existing shoreline vegetation. While there are a lot of companies that can install a decent paver patio or put down sod, sculpting new areas that merge seamlessly with the existing surroundings and appear to have just organically happened is very tough. Their use of boulders, reclaimed granite, and native plantings does an incredible job of blending the existing and the new. They also managed to create a ton of cool little vignettes that most folks would never notice but really add to the experience.

While we had a general concept and plan, Stephens really took our thinly defined vision and pushed it to the next level. We were very interested in using low maintenance, native, and local material whenever possible. Stephens was great in helping to facilitate that. They even scouted the surrounding property and marked boulders on site we could extract and use for the new work.

Price was very fair for the complexity of the job and amount of work/equipment committed. Landscaping is a big expense in general, but they were very respectful of the budget constraints and spent not an insignificant amount of time in the pricing and scope selection phase fine tuning the materials and boundaries around our budget. They pride themselves on well-defined scope which eliminates a lot of the ambiguity and unexpected cost that can come along with this type of work.

We do not live locally full time, so Hunter sent daily photos and maintained a very active dialogue with us about the status of the work and any questions or suggestions he had. Performance, professionalism, and timing was top notch. They have clearly invested a lot of time and resources into their equipment with an aim for maximum productivity. The speed they were able to bring together the project was frankly shocking.

Follow up and post occupancy service is always something I worry about on a project like this. We specifically went with low maintenance native plants, but they still require some care while taking root for the first few years (I am not a plant person at all, so it is totally foreign to me). John, their service account manager, took the time to familiarize himself with the site and spent a solid 20 min chatting with me and answering any questions I had about the properties long term maintenance and seasonal needs. Since completing the work, Stephens has visited the house multiple times just to check on the plantings and make sure everything is taking the way they intended. The pride they take in their work really shows.

Working with Stephens was an all-around great experience and the final product dramatically enhances the whole house.

Stephens did a full landscaping for us, including grading, perched beach, plantings and irrigation. The team was terrific and dealt with several challenges without missing a beat. The best part for us was that they knew what would look best and guided based on their experience while considering our particular needs and preferences. The project came in on budget and on schedule. It does not get much better.

Stephens Landscaping just finished a fairly extensive paving and landscaping project for us. We had a general idea of what we wanted to do and Hunter had various good suggestions as to ways we could improve the plan . They were also open to ways we could cut costs reusing materials we had. We were also very pleased with Rob’s landscaping plan which greatly improved the driveway entrance to our home.
Hunter’s coordination of the project resulted in a fairly seamless conclusion and all pricing changes due to changes in the plan were set out clearly and agreed to.
I would highly recommend Stephens if you are interested in a creative, knowledgeable and responsive team.!

First let me apologize for taking so long in letting you know how pleased we are with our boat ramp.
The heavy rains last tested the run off, and the ramp passed with flying colors.
Fish and Game has used the ramp and commented on how nice it is.
Our members should be starting to retrieve their boats in the next month, so looking forward to that feedback as well.
As usual, Stephens Landscaping has provided Lake Waukewan Association with excellent service and a quality project.

The SL team recently completed a major transformation of our lakefront property. This included a complete shoreline wall reconstruction, perched beach reconstruction as well as a new fireplace, patio and seating wall. These types of projects can be intimidating and therefore easy to delay and procrastinate. Having worked with the SL team on smaller projects in the past, we had confidence that they were the best company to get the job done. I’m happy to say that they exceeded our expectations in every aspect of the project. First, we worked closely with John and his team on the design. They are true experts in this area and were not shy about making suggestions and explaining drawbacks to some of our initial ideas. After a few timely revisions of the plan we came-up with a final design and very detailed cost estimate. After this we did not have to do too much. They took the lead on the permit applications and obtained all necessary approvals within a couple of months. The work started during the winter and they sent us regular updates including pictures when we were not at the house. When we were at the house, we were very impressed with the professionalism of the crews. They always arrived first thing in the morning and worked hard all-day. My favorite part of working with SL is the timely answers to all of our questions and the flexibility they had with some minor revisions during the final stages. The project was completed on-time and the quality, especially the stonework, is excellent. I highly recommend John and his team to anyone considering an enhancement to their outdoor experience at the lake.

We recently had the Stephens team come in and do the hardscaping and landscaping on our new lake front construction project. I can’t even express how happy we are with the service, professionalism and work product. We had them bid the project on a total solution basis and every thing they did was not only done properly but exceeded expectation in every way and in perfect alignment with the permitting. Too often when you work with a contractor on a project bid basis they either try to cut corners after things get rolling or nickel and dime you on change orders. Never once did I get that feeling from this team. Often they were the ones saying “if we add this here or that there this would be awesome” and boom, it was done and never once did they push for an up-charge on things that should be included to make it perfect. As an example, at one point in the project we realized that the stone drainage swale that was installed to control run off for the driveway was going to cause a ‘navigation problem’ for our 92 year old neighbor, who likes to drop by and visit us from time to time. So we talked it over with Hunter (our Stephens Project Manager) and came up with a plan to add a granite slab bridge over the swale. We used some repurposed material that we had on site and the Stephens team jumped on it, and before you knew it, they built a cool little bridge. No up charge. As a side note we named the bridge after the neighbor just to make it cooler. After all, every veteran should have a bridge named after them! Another point I should comment on is that a couple times during the project we did add some things to the overall scope of the project that were not in the bid. When we did ask for additional work we were given extremely fair pricing and excellent work in every case. I would highly recommend this team to any one that wants a professional job, done right, and at a fair price. You will not regret your choice.

Stephens has done multiple projects for us in Meredith over the last 3 years. It starts with their permitting process which has a 100% success record at the State level. It's very reassuring to know that your project is going to get approval and on time. The work they've done for us was started and completed on time and according to schedule. The quality very high. And the price very fair. We couldn't have asked for a better contractor relationship. We will be using them for our landscaping projects in the future. For sure!

The four man crew arrived right on time and worked continuously from 7:30am to 5pm. And what a job they did. Every detail of our property, lawns, flower beds, bushes, driveways were detailed and at the end of the day I look around and am stunned with the beauty and completeness of their hard work. I simply cannot find one blade of grass not perfect, no small stick or leaf not picked up. Seriously, I would give them 6 stars if I could. Stephens Landscaping did a great job for us from start to finish. Shortly after our initial inquiry about installing a new walkway from our garage to the house, Hunter arrived to do some planning with us. Within a day or two a sketch of the plan with details arrived via e-mail, and we were delighted to have this project undertaken. The schedule was communicated and photos were sent to us as soon as the last stone was laid. (We are part time residents.) We couldn't be happier with the plan, the beauty of the landscaping, and the efficiency of the workers.

I have been dealing with Stephens Landscaping for the last 3 years as we have slowly renovated our property. The transformation has been nothing short of amazing. The entire staff is highly knowledgeable and professional! Most recently, we renovated the lakeside of our property, under the supervision of Hunter Secord. He was a pleasure to deal with, present every day to oversee the project and patiently responsive to my many questions! Hunter and his team (Delfin and Axel) are very knowledgeable and personable. It was great working with them on our firepit project. They understood with great detail what we wanted to accomplish with our project and this hard working team made it happen. My family and I are very happy with the work done by Stephens Landscaping, which included a complete overhaul of the front and back sides of our lakefront property in Moultonborough. John and Hunter developed a comprehensive plan to install a new patio, fire pit, stone walls, pathways and plantings, and a new circular driveway in order to make our property more appealing and functional. The team expertly installed the lighting and irrigation system, and Rhonda lent her extensive plant knowledge to design the garden beds.
