Wonderful work remodeling my basement. Work was as projected and everything was completed in a timely manner. The employees were respectful of my time and my home while working. I really appreciate Tyler and his company for giving me a fair price and quality work. Definitely use them if you live on the Oregon Coast!
Smith family builders did a bathroom update to my master bathroom. They were super friendly, energetic, and prompt. They were sure not to cut any corners and everything came out exactly how I imagined it would. Will be rehiring to do my deck!
I had a vastly different experience than other reviewers. I hired them to build a pole barn. And while some of his crew were great, others left empty beer and Mike's hard lemonade cans lying around. The initial timeline was said to be 3-4 months. It ended up being 9, and would have been more except we agreed to have a different contractor do the garage doors since they still hadn't been ordered after 9 months. It took roughly 4 months just to get the posts into the holes (that were drilled by the excavation contractor), and some bracing.
As for quality, I had to press to get them to follow the engineered plans...which they apparently kept losing and having to ask me for copies. From adding nails to the posts to lock them into the concrete, to using full width boards for the truss bearing blocks...everything was a battle. They expected a few nails to hold a 4x6 beam in place over the garage door openings...something I ended up having to fix myself. But probably the biggest issue was they actually built the building about 6 inches taller than specified in the plans.
To be fair, they did adjust to a few changes. Adding roof sheathing and a couple windows. Both of which I paid extra for for materials and labor. In that regard, I was treated fairly. But I could also add to the list of shortcomings as well. Bottom line...there is no way I'd ever hire that company again.
Update 2/6/2025: Tyler...is the offer to fix issues still open? The roof is leaking.
Update 4/8/2025: Happy to say that Tyler did come out several times over the last couple months to address the roof leak and it appears to have been resolved. So credit where credit is due...he was willing to stand behind his work and resolve issues.
