Recommended Reviews
We were so impressed with Nik and his crew! They met all our expectations and if we had concerns they communicated well. Glad we chose them.
Overall:
I was pleased with the work Nik (Owner) and his Running Creek team did on completing my backyard landscaping project. I recommend them to do your landscaping project.
Summary:
I felt like Nik and his Running Creek team did a good job on this project. Like most people, I was skeptical on how this would turn out. I was well pleased with the Bid/Quote, Project Design, Timeframe, Communication, and the overall Product quality from start to finish. Like anything, perfection is arguably impossible and they can improve on some things. I give Running Creek a score of 94 out of 100.
(It's Long!) Further details on why I was pleased:
Context:
My yard was a corner lot, with a steep grade at certain spots, and roughly 7,000sqft. This was no simple project.
Bids/Quotes:
I had a handful of contractors come in and bid.
The details for what I needed. (path from driveway to back patio, enlarge the back patio, fire pit, retaining wall, grass, and the minimum requirement of trees, shrubs and plants per the HOA/Metro District)
Nik understood my vision for my yard. He was not fancy like others who told me I needed to add certain and/or unnecessary things I didn’t ask for. He provided sensible recommendations and asked me my thoughts. For example: I wanted one large retaining wall. Because of the steep grade, that retaining wall would have been 7’ tall. I was advised that an engineer would be needed then because of city/county code which would've made the project more costly. Nik suggested terraced retaining walls to keep the cost down.
A negative, and this goes for the majority of contractors, the estimate I received was 35% less than the actual quote. (this is expected)
However, Nik's quote was detailed and had a cost breakdown that was easy to understand. And he also wrote up the Scope of Work to be completed with the site plan making it easy to submit to the HOA/Metro District for approval (which it was approved with no question).
Project Design:
The site plan was detailed and easy to understand (if you're not good at reading blue prints or site plans then you'll find this challenging)
Timeframe:
This project was held back for over a year due to things out of my control and Running Creek’s. Nik stuck with it though and once it was cleared up Running Creek went to work.
This project took roughly 4 weeks to complete. Nik and his team worked Monday-Saturday (I didn’'t expect them to work Saturdays)
Communication:
My experience was fair in a positive way. If I ever had a question or needed to discuss something about the project Nik was very responsive.
Critique: They can improve by communicating with the customer first when there are any changes, good or bad, before doing the change.
Product:
I was well pleased with 97% of everything that was completed and their quality of craftsmanship.
The retaining wall was done right. The drainage was well thought out and works great, I'm very impressed. We have had an abnormal amount of rain after the project and it's draining properly.
Nik took over one day of measuring and leveling to figure out the complexity of the steep grading on my property to get the retaining wall right. This showed me that Nik cared and was just as invested in the project as me.
Nik was creative and added a small flower bed in the plan to bring things together. (with my approval)
Some of the original site plan had to change during production and Nik provided good insight on where trees, shrubs, or plants could get moved to without changing the vision of the project.
Critique: The other 3% were minor things that can be improved on such as a fracture on a cap for the retaining wall, and cleaning up the concrete splatter that gets on parts of the house.
I don't expect any landscape project to be perfect because it has to deal with Colorado soils and the inevitable shifting foundations.
My family and I are happy with how this project turned out.
Nik and his crew went ABOVE AND BEYOND what we asked for to giving our front yard what I call a manicure and face lift. They took out our dead tree and planted a beautiful maple, swapped out dead shrubs for new ones, added perennial flowers in front of our stairs, added 3 boulders, and placed solar lights.
We bought our home recently and the rock bed had a ton of weeds. His crew completely removed our rocks, placed new weed barrier, and put the rocks back.
Additionally, they trimmed our backyard tree, cleaned up all the weeds, and made our entire property look absolutely beautiful!
I have a tendency to want to add items last minute, but he was willing and able to accommodate alongside making some suggestions of his own we were comfortable with adding too.
Nik is friendly, communicative, professional, and produces high quality work. We have a company for many years to come to complete our future landscape and indoor projects.
TL;DR
My husband and I highly recommend this company. Friendly, communicative, professional, our quote was reasonable, and the end result was HIGH quality work. Call Nik and let him quote your project :)
