Warning to TN Residents – Contractor Alert
We want to warn others about our experience with Calvin Hopkins, the owner of Rock N Decks and Fences. We paid him thousands of dollars to build our deck, and what we received was a disaster.
His crew left our property with paint overspray everywhere, which we haven’t been able to remove despite multiple attempts. The deck itself was poorly constructed, and the job was clearly not professionally done.
Calvin admitted that the work was unacceptable and claimed he would make it right. He came out briefly right before the 4th of July to start repairs — but never finished the job. We’ve been left with a mess and no resolution.
To make matters worse, one of the cleanup companies he sent even refused to get involved after seeing the condition of the work.
We’re sharing this to help others avoid going through the same situation. Please be cautious before hiring Rock N Decks and Fences or working with Calvin Hopkins.

We 10/10 recommend this company if you are looking for any work done on your home- they were super dependable and communicated very well. Good companies are hard to find and it’s even harder to get them to call you back or show up when they say they will. Calvin and his crew were all friendly and honest. He worked with us to design the deck we wanted in our budget. As you can see, Ross also approves❤️
I can’t say enough good things about Calvin and his team at Rock N Decks & Fences. This was hands-down the best experience I’ve ever had with a contractor, and the first in 15 years who actually showed up exactly when he said he would, from start to finish.
His crew was efficient, respectful, and incredibly skilled. Every step of the job (replacing my fence and building a large new deck with a metal roof) was done with care and intention, but they still finished everything in just one week. I had gotten several quotes before this, and most were sky high. Calvin’s pricing was more than reasonable, but even more impressive was the quality of the work. He’s not just fair; he’s excellent at his craft.
You can tell a lot about an employer by the attitudes of their employees. This crew clearly had a great bond—collaborating, chatting, and even singing through the day (yes, singing!). To say I’m thrilled is an understatement. This experience couldn’t have been any better.
