Five Stars for the entire project. Superb job by Nick Q, Project Manager, in explaining the process and answering the questions that I had. Throughout the entire process he was always there and made sure everything went smoothly. During the installation, both electricians, Charles and David, were great handling the installation.
Also, both guys took the time to show and explain whatever questions I had.
After installation, they took the time explaining how the entire system functions.

The RES team did an outstanding job of guiding us through the process of installing a solar PV system for our home -- from sizing the right system, though engineering and dealing with HECO paperwork, installation (just 2 days), and optimization post-install. About 6 mos. start to finish, almost entirely waiting for permits. They communicated at all steps along the way and made it easy. Plus, we were happy to support a locally owned and operated company with staff technicians, not contractors like many of their transplanted competitors. Grid power was out for the whole town today for 1.5 hrs and we barely noticed, except for not exporting excess energy for $ while it was down. :D

Renewable Energy Services, Inc. (RES) was the most respectful and professional company that I have ever had work on my house. Their team did an outstanding job installing my PV solar and power system in just two days and while working in the Kamuela rain/mist.

RES also installed the newest, safest, environmentally friendly LiFeP04 Fortresspower batteries (compared to Tesla's old style Powerwall lithium-ion battery), and installed the 32 large high efficient panels. All of this might seem overkill, but you are powering the entire house, not using it as a backup system when the power goes out.
With solar, you need to plan to having more than you need now, mostly because batteries and panels degrade over time, or just dirty solar panels will produce less energy, so having more, is a form of future proofing. :)

Anyway, we've had lots of contractors and people working on our house, but RES's installation crew, design, and office staff are/is the best company that I've ever had the pleasure to give them my money. Mahalo :)

Roland and his team at Renewable Energy Services, Inc. (RES) have earned my trust for reputable work and service. When installing my system a decade ago, I selected RES from among other cheaper companies because of the design/installation details they implemented that stood out from their competitors. I am not interested in cheap. I am interested in performance and quality of work and service. When manufacturing defects in the solar panels compromised the operational integrity of the system, they did their best to satisfy me at their expense, even though the fault was with the solar panel manufacturer. I recently replaced the faulty solar panels with new panels, again relying on Roland and his team at RES to do the job. I would not have had it any other way as RES has earned my complete trust as a company that will do things the right way from the start, and continue that promise and practice for years to come. It comes down to a single, simple word. "INTEGRITY". And RES exemplifies it!

We had an off-grid project collapse before installation when a lower-priced vendor ran into business difficulties. RES stepped in, took over the permit, and showed tremendous flexibility in getting our project re-started, with an improved design. They have been, start to finish, knowledgeable, easy to talk to, easy to work with, and thoroughly professional. They do what they say they are going to do, when they say they are going to do it, and the crew have been nice people to have around. They don't publicize themselves aggressively, but if you've found your way to them, you have done very well.

We had our first photovoltaic system installed by RES 23 years ago as we were building our home. At that time we didn't even have a roof on which to install solar panels. Having never lived off grid before, we were very pleased over the years with their continued support and advice.

When it became necessary to update our system, from the initial assessment by Roland, to the presentation of contracts by Joe, and the accounting support by Diane, we found all arrangements to be made with professionalism and compassion. ALL our questions were addressed and answered completely.

When the time came for installation, everything was handled with efficiency, and the utmost consideration. They were on time, respectful, listened to our questions, were as concerned about aesthetics as we were, and went above and beyond to make certain everything was installed the best it could be. It was quite obvious the professional team of installers worked very well together, enjoying what they were doing as well as each other. Charles, the electrician, handled hooking everything up even better than we thought possible. These people really know what they are doing and explain everything as well.

We are amazed with the technological advancement of our new system and are so pleased with its efficiency and ease of operation. We highly recommend RES...you will be thrilled with the results.

Purchased my entire Solar Electric Panel system from Renewable Energy Services, Inc. several years ago, it works great! Now I'm seeking to add panels because of my higher electric consumption due to addition of A/C units in the house. My inquiry was promptly answered and I appreciated that.

SOOOOOO glad we did, they’ve been here long before and will still be around long after the countless other companies have gone away. additionally they are super responsive whenever something does go wrong with any part of your system. RES installed a grid tied self supply system on my home on the Big Island. They did a fantastic job managing all aspects of the project while I was off island. The quality of their install work was excellent. One of the panels had a rare manufacturing defect which revealed itself after the installation. RES responded by replacing the panel, despite the logistical challenges of working during the pandemic.

This is great local company, and I would happily do business with them again.

We have worked with Renewable Energy Services on two projects at our home. Initially, we installed photovoltaic panels and recently we installed a backup battery system. These systems are not inexpensive; however, they are the prudent thing to do, especially while there are State and Federal energy tax credits available. I received a prompt reply to my initial inquiry..They provided good information about lithium batteries in an understandable form. Prices were right on with prices from the manufacturer and installation was reasonable. They also removed and recycled my lead-acid batteries the same day at a reasonable cost. They have answered all of my followup questions promptly and thoroughly. The crew arrived on time and worked efficiently even while answering my questions. They are knowledgeable as well. The accounting department was very efficient and timely. I can highly recommend Renewable Energy Service for solar installation. Our system is off-grid and providing all our energy needs.

RES installed a PV system with Aquion batteries. The battery system failed completely is approx. 1 year after installation. The manufacturer is in bankruptcy and RES has claimed no legal obligation to honor the Aquion warranty. I regret accepting the technology recommended by RES and believe they had some knowledge of the problems associated with Aquion at the time they sold me the batteries.

The Renewable Energy team is amazing. They took an immensely complex system, where the installer had gone out of business, and not only completed the integration that the original installer and contractor had spent a year working on and did it in two days! Then they tracked down a failure through miles of wiring and discovered the fault. I would give them an IQ rating of A+ and an implementation grade of A+ as well. Everything was buttoned up and clean - not something that is really ever seen here on the Big Island in Hawaii (90% is usually more than good enough). Renewable Energy is 100%.

RES did the original install of my off-grid photovoltaic system 12 years ago and the 3 upgrades made to the system since. The last upgrade was just last week. I fully understand the complexities of my solar system and have the upmost respect for Roland and his team. They stay current on new technology and know what works best here. If you are on the Big Island, and you want a system that works correctly, call Roland and listen to what he says. RES does quality work and they stand behind it.

My experience with the team at Renewable Energy Services(equipment supply) has been outstanding. Joe Kent and Roland Shakelford have a deep understanding of the Hawaii solar market and battery storage. With the new HELCO programs, batteries are required on most projects. RES knows batteries. When I visited their office, I was genuinely surprised to see at least 3 different battery systems being tested. Not everything works in Hawaii, but RES knows what does. I have worked with dozens of solar companies over the past 12 years and Renewable Energy Services is one of the best.

These guys bend over backwards to please their customers. They answer questions, service and remediate any time of day and immediately. Honest, hard working, they don’t try to sell a system that is greater than the need. Super to work with.
