Reliable Design-Build-Remodel

Our family is very sensitive to mold, and unfortunately most modern showers are prone to mold growth due to poor design (many companies don't even use moisture barriers behind the shower tile / panels), the materials chosen being porous or inflexible so they crack over time and allow water penetration to reach the building materials behind the shower, or poor sealing of the joints and pan due to installer error.

We have had a couple bathroom remodeling projects over the years that were a huge mess for these reasons. So when our master shower had a catastrophic leak, and insurance told us we were going to need to rebuild the shower, I had a terrible feeling that we were going to have another disaster of a remodeling project. I knew I needed someone trustworthy and very intelligent this time around.

After doing a lot of research on local companies, we settled on Reliable Design and Build. And I am so glad we did. James has the heart of a teacher and the attention to detail of a master craftsman - the kind of excellence that only comes from decades of disciplined learning and practice in his trade. He taught us a lot of the reasons about why modern shower designs are prone to water leaking and mold growth, and he showed us a number of building techniques and materials I had never heard of that can mitigate these issues.

James was always easy to get ahold of, and he came onsite repeatedly to oversee the work. He worked well with our insurance company, and we are very happy with the finished product. If we ever have another large scale remodel that needs to be done with excellence, Reliable Design is the first company we will call. 5 stars all the way.

Reliable Design just completed a project at our house & I’m happy with the results. They pulled off some ancient vinyl, replaced rotten wood & installed new vinyl on the exterior & did a major kitchen update — all new except cabinets & flooring. Best communication I’ve had with a contractor— this was our third renovation or addition in 30 years. Owner James Walton was immediately responsive to questions & concerns. Subs did quality work. Job took longer than estimated, but I doubt a construction project exists that met the initial timeline.

This company is aptly named-they are VERY reliable! They did several projects in our home and they were all on schedule, well organized, and thorough from start to finish. James and his team did an outstanding job on our kitchen remodel. Our remodel began because of a water leak from our dishwasher. From the start, James was extremely helpful in navigating the insurance side of things for us which we were clueless to. He provided insight and explanation throughout the entire process . James also initially came in with several vision options for us on best way to layout our kitchen for optimal use and overall look, things we never even thought of! We trusted him and so glad we did! He is extremely communicative and we appreciated the transparency via the software he uses regarding the spend/budget - everything is listed and itemized out. James is extremely knowledgeable and explains it all/answers all questions/concerns quickly - appreciated the very open line of communication. Over the past 25+ years, we have built or renovated over a half dozen houses and Reliable is by far the most professional and best organized contractors we’ve worked with. They established and kept to the schedule extremely well and kept us in the loop when the inevitable issues or questions arose. James is THE BEST contractor in the metro Bham area! He’s a very hands on manager, he’s experienced, knowledgeable, communicative, very particular (like us!), organized, and all-around likable guy. His subs are all top notch in their respective fields. For me, this project was fun and not too stressful thanks to the great management style of James. You get what you pay for, and I must say that this contractor is worth his weight in gold! It feels like a new home! When my wife and I decided that it was time to remodel the bathroom off our master bedroom, we only considered one contractor to do the job and that was James Walton at Reliable Remodeling. I have known James for about 15 years and know that he does things the right way with quality people. We had not used the shower in the master bathroom for over a year due to broken tile and leaking issues. His team came in and performed a total demo of the room and found underlying issues with the floor joist and the plumbing. They were able to assess the situation and make repairs without an interruption in the schedule. Everyone that we dealt with on his team was great and performed quality work. His project manager Kat and the suppliers that they use are very helpful in selecting the materials that were needed for the project. The Buildertrend software/app kept us informed throughout the project with schedules, change orders and up-to-date job costs. We are very pleased with the results of the work that James and his team performed in our home.

I am extremely pleased with my master bath and hall bath remodel.

Recently had our kitchen remodeled by Reliable and they did an outstanding job. The workers were always on time and the workmanship was A +. They cleaned up every day after working on our project. We had a load bearing wall that I wanted removed. James recommended a recessed beam so we didn’t have to have a header beam between the two rooms. It opened our vintage 1978 home up. There were some unexpected issues during the remodel but James was very professional and he has a good construction program for schedule and communication. I especially appreciated his plumber. We would work with him again.
