Bob from Red Hat answered our request in a timely manner, gave a very reasonable estimate and his crew (mainly Isaac) did a tremendous job! Isaac was wonderful with his attention to detail. I was extremely pleased and satisfied with the work and timely fashion in which it was done. Thank you Red Hat!!

After I acquired an 18 unit apartment complex in Corvallis I contacted Red Hat about an unsafe sidewalk problem. Working together with Bob Alexander we then discovered many significant structural problems with stairs, second story walks, and other not-to-code issues. Red Hat took on all these challenges readily, and thoroughly solved the problems.
In my 3 decades of experience with building contractors, I would put Bob Alexander at the top of my list of great experiences. I found him to be smart, patient, absolutely honest, bold, thorough, and broadly competent.

I've had rental property in Albany and Corvallis since 1978. I started using Red Hat Construction about 40 years ago, when I first got my contractor's license. I've used them on more jobs than I can remember. Whenever a difficult problem has come up and I needed their expertise, Bob has always come to my aid. He and his staff are extremely knowledgeable, and think outside the box when they need to.

They have helped me through many difficult projects, including fire restorations, and historic building restorations. They've also helped with dealing with difficult permit issues with both cities (Albany and Corvallis).

My most recent project was a few months ago. He designed, permitted and constructed a very difficult new bathroom addition.

Red Hat Construction trains their employees well... they are always respectful, conscientious, and knowledgeable.

I would highly recommend them.

We first used Red Hat 40 years ago, and have called on them again and again over the years. The work has always been done to a high standard with attention to detail.

Absolutely awful service. Several projects were finally completed literal months and sometimes years after the original due date. If you want a project done on time, do not come here. The quality of the projects is also abysmal. Several details were completely neglected, including a door stop that was placed completely incorrectly and ended up putting a hole in my drywall that they did not repair.

This company has been nothing but disappointing. They take weeks/months longer than promised to complete projects and remodels. They do not prioritize their customers wants and needs, do not meet deadlines, and have been consistent of this for a very long time now. If you're looking to have a project completed on time, then look elsewhere.

Awful and unprofessional company. Red Hat has been contracted for many projects in the student housing building I live in. Never once have they been close to completing a project within their projected timeline or budget. Not to mention the quality of their work is abysmal.

Edit: The 2 years it took for Red Hat to respond to this review is an excellent example of what they consider to be timely service. Not to mention their reply is unprofessional and baselessly threatening-- not sure what you are even referring to. Real stand up organization you are running here Bob, keep up the shoddy work!

We bought a fixer several years ago and upgraded gradually over the years as finances allowed. Red Hat did about 90% of the work, and the work was extensive. I’m sharing it all below, but here’s the short version: the expertise of Bob and his crew at Red Hat Construction made it all come together better than we had could have planned.

The first project Red Hat did for us was rebuilding the front porch. This involved pouring a new base, installing larger supports for the roof overhang, and building new railings. The new porch looks much more substantial and really enhances the curb appeal of the house.

The second project was a bathroom remodel. Our original plan was to replace a damaged tub and somehow increase available storage space. Bob looked at the space and showed us how we could replace the standard tub with a huge, six foot long soaking tub and simultaneously open up more storage space by simply repositioning the fixtures. The new layout is much better than the old one. Even with the bigger tub, the space is more accessible and seems larger. And to top it all off, this project came in below budget!

Our third project was the biggest. One end of the house consisted of a poorly done addition that was built in a converted garage. Outside was a leaky carport that was on its last legs. We wanted Red Hat to extend the concrete carport pad and build an enclosed garage in that space. We also wanted to somehow improve the existing living space at that end of the house as the ceilings were low and there wasn’t enough natural light. Bob recommended installing taller and wider roof trusses that ran opposite the existing roof line and covered both the new garage and the existing living space being remodeled.

The larger trusses provided several benefits. First, they tied the roof line of the addition into the existing, ranch style, structure in a way that made the garage look like it was always part of the existing house. Second, the trusses provided both a large, standing room attic space over the garage as well as vaulted ceilings in the living space. And finally, they allowed us to place a nice sized laundry room between the garage and living space. The new trusses were never part of our original plan. It was Bob’s recommendation and the work of his crew that made it all come together so well.

The final project was a kitchen remodel. We wanted to remove a post that was right in the middle of the kitchen space and straighten a wall on one side of the kitchen. This involved placing two large support beams in the old attic space and a lot of new framing. The kitchen was finished with cabinets built by Edel Designs and is a very beautiful space now.

After a decade of work, our house is finally complete. It’s become a great home for us thanks to Bob and his crew at Red Hat Construction.

I highly recommend Red Hat Construction, especially for custom remodel and repair projects that would be considered difficult by most other contractors. Under the guidance of Bob, the founder, Red Hat has built me a complex custom-designed 3,000 sf multi-level shop-storage structure in two phases; altered an industrial steel warehouse; and recently repaired portions of an historic wood building.
Their work has stood the test of time; Bob has extensive knowledge of the local codes and a wealth of old-fashioned experience in finding the best approach to projects. They have treated me with respect and fairness, while providing the highest quality workmanship. They first worked for me in 1980, and I plan on contacting Red Hat again when my next project comes up.

Red hat construction has just completed three projects for me. (1) Removing an old cement driveway and replacing it with a new stained cement driveway with stamped borders down each side. The tones of the borders blend in with landscaping beautifully. (2)Constructing a new stained patio in the back yard with a ramp connecting to the house. A black powder coated railing, custom made out of industrial stainless steel is the perfect accent. (3)A base for an atrium in the backyard was shaped in the form of an octagon, stained and stamped and sealed and is a work of art very striking..Bob also prepared for future electricity to the atrium. A new drainage system was also installed around the home.Bob was always available for phone calls answering my questions, or keeping me up to date on work days which was a challenge .(this was a winter project-a challenge for concrete work). Red Hat employees were respectful to all and had great work ethics. Bob is a great teacher as well as a remarkable boss. He takes the time to teach a new employee skills they have yet to learn. Bob prepared for me a detail itemized list of materials needed to complete the above work and other costs including labor. I appreciated this so much I could also plan my budget. The pricing was fair. Yes, it is with great pleasure I recommend Red Hat Construction it is a great company. Judy Tontz Corvallis Or.

He has tools and is a tool! We needed a contractor to get some work done and looked through the reviews here and found one with great reviews. Once the other guy looked at the job he wanted 6K to put in a simple wall and door. That seemed crazy so I was calling some other contractors to find someone who is more reasonably priced.
I got a call back from Bob with Red Hat and described the scope of the work and told him I wanted a bid for it. He flippantly told me that he didn't do bids, just construction, and was very expensive and hung up on me. What an absolute JERK! I manage 14 rentals in Corvallis and am in the market for a new contractor. His rotten attitude and rude behavior cost him a lot of possible work.

I had this company give me a bid on a custom home project that involved working with both quality woods and fabricated stainless steel for the project. I had called just about every construction company out there and couldn't even get those duds to show up.
They sent someone out there the very next day late after a long work day, gave me the best price and do great work.
My hat is off to RED HAT. Thanks fellas.
