The RCI team was great to work with even through our custom requests. Brian Click and Gabe made sure all our needs were met and some. They get it done and advocate for the homeowner.

AVIOD RCI AT ALL COSTS. My wife and I selected RCI as our builder as they were also the developer in the neighborhood we selected.

Fast forward from planning to punch out.. and that is where the problems started to arise. For a builder/developer that charges clients 6 to 7 figures for their properties, you receive such subpar work it’s not even funny. From millwork finishes, to complete lack of care in regards to painting, to bowed out wall studs… we had to spend the first several months of living there, going through endless punchlist items.

Additionally from the beginning, our piece of property was on a slope, yet the developer chose not to install a culvert on the property. This has caused so much erosion, that our yard and parts of our gravel driveway have washed away. To top it off.. water comes over our front sidewalk and washes the dirt out around our foundation.

RCI and the owner Todd have ignored the proper water redirection solution here, and have told me that per “code” they have done all they need to do.

So if you are looking to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on your forever home, just to spend most of the next year trying to keep up with all of the issues that come with building with RCI, then enjoy!

In all honestly though, there are plenty of other developers that actually care about the longevity of their sites, so do yourself a service and pick one of them.

Purchased a new build from RCI. Used their realtor (Lindsey was awesome), their mortgage lender (Nick with Townebank Mortgage was fantastic) and their closing attorney (MG Law). A bit reluctant in the beginning to use all of RCI's "products" but I figured, "we'll see how this goes". All went smoothly. We've now been moved in for 30 days and we couldn't be happier. Build quality is great and any issues that have come up were quickly resolved. Even minor things that I would usually expect to be responsible for, they quickly resolved. Post purchase, RCI (Bobby and Wade) have continued to be very responsive and actively seek to make sure we're happy.

Never built with them but they are the main company that manages our subdivision. Sold “high end homes” in Old Church area but they’re cheap and run it like a cheap motel. The contractors they get are low bid do terrible work but they want well over half a million to live in a “luxury” neighborhood. They had some 14 year old come “hydroseed” the roadsides and coated the road people’s yards and half the trees with hydroseed that’s probably weeds like the first round of “grass” they installed, but hey, $600-1M luxury right. Very disappointing, each passing day seems like more motivation to sell and get out of here. Sucks our dream home (that’s falling apart and built shoddy) on some land is pretty tainted and not enjoyable. Do your research before you get into any of these RCI neighborhoods and make sure you know what you’re getting in to.

We recently built our dream home with RCI. We are thrilled with the results. We did a lot of research to find the right builder. We have been very impressed with RCI’s transparent pricing, craftsmanship, and customer service. We worked with Josh Kegel as our project manager, and he did a phenomenal job. He was responsive to our questions or concerns and had an excellent eye for detail. We had a couple of hiccups come up in the build process, but Josh gave us peace of mind to know that everything would be taken care of. Their warranty program and commitment to their work is exceptional. We would recommend RCI builders for your custom home 10/10. Our home is exactly what we dreamed of- and more!

I moved into Stags Trail in March, and I love living here. My house is gorgeous and the subdivision is
perfect for homeowners 55 plus. A shout out to Gabe from RCI, he is great to deal with if any issues occur and resolves them quickly.

Great! Attentive! Personal!
At our initial meeting with RCI & Brian Click, he walked us through the build process and said he would be our point man every step of the way, and he did just that! Brian spent countless hours with us in person, emails and the never ending texting and handled all of the nuances of the build to perfection! We could not imagine building a new home without Brian by our side. 5 Stars is really not enough emphasis on our experience because after the close and over a year later he’s attention to continued service has been outstanding and above & beyond the obligation of the job. Brian has become a personal friend, continued his commitment to his product and a complete pleasure to work with.
If you’re building a home with RCI he’s hands down the choice for project manager!

We're so lucky to have built our dream home with the dream team.

From start to finish the process felt like a breeze. I have extremely high standards and am admittedly picky, so when I was continually impressed with the efficiencies, cleanliness and exceptional communication, I was left pretty speechless.
Throughout the design and build process, we got to meet with a number of exceptional members of RCI's team & we'd be remised not to call them out for their friendliness, professionalism & guidance.
Katie Newell made our experience at the Design Center, seamless & I may be biased but with her guidance, our selections looks absolutely amazing in our home!!
If only everyone who builds a home were lucky enough to have Brian Click as their Project Manager. He consistently worked to make sure our expectations were set & then continued to exceed them all. We were lucky enough to close way earlier than originally anticipated (which was great news for us) and we fully attribute that to Brian and his team's hard work to execute everything so efficiently from start to finish.

I know there are so many teams and people we didn't get to meet that worked tirelessly to make our house our dream home & we're so grateful to each of them.

We'll continue to recommend RCI to our friends and family and will always be team RCI (not that we're ever leaving this home)!! Not only were we so happy with the process but we're over the moon with the finished product. RCI delivered us a beautiful home and made my dreams a reality. Thanks a million!!!

My husband and I built our dream home in Stags Leap Subdivision with RCI last year. We looked at many different builders and their homes and kept coming back to RCI. Their craftsmanship stood out beyond the rest. We added a lot of custom features to our home and our project manager, Brian Click, was very accommodating. He told us he would keep us informed of the build step by step and that’s exactly what he did. He was easy to reach when we had questions and if he didn’t have an answer for us, he would find it out quickly. We worked with Katie, one of the designers at RCI and she was patient and helpful during the entire selection process. We love our home and even a year later still have people drive by asking about it. Thank you, RCI and Brian!

We built our home in Kennington Subdivision last year. The process was so easy working with Jake Sklar our realtor in finding our lot and house plan to working with Bobby our project manager. Bobby was very attentive to our requests. He was very professional , honest and friendly. RCI builders have good employees that performs their job above and beyond expectations. We are happy with the results.

We had the pleasure of working with Sara Crum and Bobby Jackson throughout the building process of our new home. From the start, Sara was incredibly informative and easy to get in touch with. She communicated with us daily and was very helpful getting the process started and helping us narrow down all the details/designs! We had Bobby as our project manager and he was great to work with. He made sure everything moved smoothly and in a timely manner. He met all required deadlines and made sure to answer any questions or concerns we had throughout the build. We appreciate both of them and all the others behind the scenes who helped make our DREAM HOUSE a reality!

RCI Builders offered an excellent experience from start to finish, and even after we closed! Our project manager Bobby was 1st class all the way, and didn't hesitate to make sure that everything was up to his and our standards.

RCI Builders built our house and it was a great experience. Everybody we worked with was great. Bobby Jackson was our Project Manager and worked with us from start to finish. He has been very professional throughout the whole building process. Communcation was always there whenever we had a question or concern with Bobby. He kept in touch and updated us on everything. I would refer both RCI Builders and Bobby Jackson to anyone looking to build. Thanks Bobby!

I will add another review of our overall experience in the near future, but for now we wanted to acknowledge our appreciation for our customer Service manager Jeff Drinkwater, who conducted our one year (+) inspection and follow-up work. We could not have asked for a better, detail-oriented, and customer responsive rep than Jeff.
We figured the "one -year" would be longer for inspecting and completing necessary work. Jeff was always honest with us, and was good with expectation management (as per timeline). Jeff made any wait for service well worth it in his attention to detail during the inspection and ensuring any and all deficiencies were brought up to and beyond expectation. He found deficiencies we missed or were unaware of, and was responsive to other items in addition to those found in the original inspection.
Jeff is a primary reason for turning the process of building a new home into a very satisfactory experience. RCI should give him a raise! He is gold. Thanks Jeff.

We recently purchased a new home from RCI and closed earlier this year. Josh Kegel was our construction project manager and he was fantastic! We weren’t able to relocate to Virginia until our house was finished, so we were 1,300 miles away for most of our construction process. He kept us updated, always made himself available, addressed our questions, had great ideas and got things done. Josh is extremely personable and the kind of guy that values relationships. He’s been incredibly helpful and we truly appreciate the positive experience of building our beautiful new home with him!!!

We have had a great experience working with RCI building the house we moved into in January 2023. The staff were knowledgeable, and worked with us through the decision-making process to help us to design the house we wanted. The build process was completed ahead of schedule and with quality workmanship. Issues were taken care of in a cooperative manner and we're very happy getting settled in to our new home.

Certainly the most subpar builder I have seen. I work for a company that does repairs and sixty to seventy percent of the business is fixing RCI homes. They use the cheapest materials, cheapest laborers and the fastest methods to build their houses as fast as possible. It seems their ploy is to not respond when you call them out for the required walkthroughs and touch-ups so you will end up being financially responsible. I made sure to attach a picture of some of their lovely handiwork. As one of the other reviewers stated, if you're thinking of hiring RCI find a different company before you ask yourself RC why? P.S take a look how long it took them to respond to that reviewers post. Further shows their lack of interest and professionalism.

We have been completely satisfied with RCI and the new home they are building for us. The design and contract process was organized and professional. The process of selecting interior and exterior features was easy and we had excellent guidance from Katie of the RCI design team. The construction process has been smooth and on schedule. Our project manager, Brian Click, has been excellent. He communicates with us each week and keeps us informed of progress. Brian led our electrical walkthrough and it was extremely thorough. We discussed every light, every switch, and every power outlet in every room to make sure the house would be set up the way we wanted. Brian has resolved issues and answered questions quickly, and he has consistently been on top of every detail. Our house is beautiful and we’re looking forward to closing next week.

RCI is currently building a house for my wife and I that is nearing completion. We have been working with Sara Crum as our sales representative and Brick Click as our project manager along the way. Sara has been our advocate from day one, has always been very responsive, and has worked very hard to accomplish our objectives along the way. Since we have broken ground, I have worked closely with Brian and we have been extremely impressed with him. As an attorney that practices in the area of construction law, I had very high expectations for the build process. I can say with without a doubt, that Brian has met or exceeded those expectations at every step of the way. In spending 5 minutes with Brian, it is obvious that he takes great pride in what he does and his work product is a testament to that fact.

Our home was just completed at the end of January 2023. We had the BEST experience with RCI from start to end. Our realtor, Keith Harding, was so helpful from the beginning. Communication was great and he really helped us narrow down exactly what we were looking for in our new construction home. He was straightforward, thorough, and clear with communication which we appreciated!! Once the home building process began, our project manager, Bobby Jackson, was extremely helpful and knowledgeable! He kept us up to date with the entire process and was very easy to communicate with! The whole process was quick and easy. We loved how everything was laid out for us on a chart so we could keep up with what was happening and what was to come! I would highly recommend RCI Builders!

I always said we would never build a house because I thought it would be too stressful. The team at RCI made me very happy we chose to build. From our first encounter with Katelyn Gwaltney at the model home, through construction with our project manager, Troy Szalay, to service with Ben Fritter, the process has been efficient! The team is patient, knowledgeable and responsive and have been a pleasure to work with. I would definitely recommend building with RCI!

RCI Builders is currently building a home for my family in Stags Leap. I’ve been very pleased with Sarah in Sales with her wealth of product knowledge and thoroughness and Brian who is our construction project manager. Brian has kept us informed each week with house accomplishments and expectations for the next week. He ensures the construction site is clean, organized, and meets or exceeds standards along the way. Lots of complements regarding the construction site from our future neighbors. Brian rocks! Sarah is a gem! Hometown Realty agent, Eugene Bordonie, exceeds and partners with you through each phase of the building process. Great team work!

We just celebrated our 1 year anniversary in our nee home that RCI built . Brian Peay was our project manager . I began my house hunting process in August 2021. I looked at several homes in the Richmond, Goochland and Ashland areas. The craftsmanship of the RCI builders stood out. Once I locked into a contract for my home/property, things went quickly. My design appointment with Ashley was fantastic and the PM, Josh, has been so accommodating and responsive. Any issues I’ve had, have been dealt with quickly. Josh even connected me with a contractor, Brian, to do some upgrades I wanted. I’ve had periodic inspections and am coming up on my annual inspection next month. I know that will also go off without any issues. I would absolutely recommend RCI to anyone moving to this area or looking to build a custom home.

We moved into our RCI built home just over a year ago. Construction took place during what I would say was the peak of Covid related supply chain issues so the build took far longer than anticipated, to no one's fault. While there were definitely some challenges and hiccups during the build, the primary reasons I'm still giving RCI a five star review is due to the VERY positive experience we had with our Hometown/RCI realtor, Sara Crum, and the tremendous service, attention and diligence of RCI's service department (particularly Ben Fritter) after the close of our house.

Over the last year, Ben has done a phenomenal job of addressing any issue or concern that we have flagged to him in a timely and efficient manner. He has gone above and beyond to process our feedback and schedule the appropriate follow ups with vendors.
He has always maintained great communication to keep us updated on status of any outstanding item.

Again, this would not have been a five star review without Ben and the service team so huge kudos to them.

Nothing but the best things to say about our experience with RCI! We built a new home in Hickory Hill (Ashland, VA) in 2022. The experience was professional, friendly and very satisfactory. The quality of the workmanship is very good. We love the style and features of the home we chose. Our manager, Brian Peay, has always answered all of our questions and concerns in a timely and competent manner. Any issues we had (normal to be expected when building a new home) were always addressed and remediated as soon as possible. We can highly and heartedly recommend RCI!

My husband and I was new to the area and decided to build our first new home, we both feel incredibly fortunate to have gotten lucky enough to meet Matt Rutledge with RCI! Matt led us to an unfinished model home in the area and my husband and I both knew that was the home for us! We had no idea what to expect and had lots of questions along the way. Troy Szalay was assigned to be our project manager and we couldn't have been in better hands, he was very patient and responsive to all our questions and needs. My husband and I are grateful that we were introduced to RCI and their team. We have been in our home for about a month now and couldn't be happier, everything was finished ahead of schedule and the quality of the home is second to none! If you are considering building a new home please do yourself a favor and select RCI to be your builder!

Everyone talks about how terrible building a house is, or so they say. I found that to be all wrong with RCI!! Our experience was fantastic! From start to finish. Started with Sarah helping us as we picked out our floor plan. To us changing things back and forth. Then to the design center, where everything was thorough and gave lots of options to choose from. I loved how everything was in one place and I did not have to travel from store to store to pick things out. To the actually building processes where Josh our project manger took over and was there every step of the way. He answered all questions we had fast and if something wasn't right made sure that it was fixed! We broke ground the week of Easter and closed with keys in hand the first week of September! If and when we move and build again, honestly would 100% go with RCI again! Stop seconded guessing and take the leap! Totally worth it! The Harrisons

We built our house a little over a year ago. This was our second home build and we are very happy that we chose RCI for this build. We worked with Brian Peay. He was very good at communicating with us through the entire process. I feel Brian and RCI went above and beyond what they had to do. It felt like they built the home for a family member.

UPDATE: It has been 1.5 years in our house and we have an issue with what seems to be our subflooring. Actually, the issue seems to have affected a few of our neighbors. Lots of soft spots within our floors. 6 months past our 1 year and they haven't even ripped up the lvt to see what the issue is. It seems like they're busy trying to figure out whose fault it is vs actually trying to come up with a solution. Even then, the builder says a job this size is impossible to fix. I really hope that isn't the case since we spent a lot of money on our house and would hate to have structural issues such as subflooring.

We bought a new construction in Ashland. It took a little bit of time to get started but when it did the house was built pretty quickly. Our design meeting went smoothly and we could customize pretty much whatever we wanted. We have lived in the house for a few months and are very happy with how it turned out. Just a few issues that came up but RCI fixed them relatively quickly. Kaitlyn and Josh were great to work with. My son loves it when Josh stops by to either check in or fix a minor issue.

We chose RCI to build our "forever home", the "Lynn" model, in the Fall of 2021. Most definitely not the easiest time to build a new home, amidst supply chain issues, laborer shortages, etc. But our Project Manager, Josh Kegel was right by our side, every step of the way. We received weekly updates, always received timely replies when we had questions, and in the end, we were told by our independent home inspector that our home was "one of the cleanest new builds he had ever seen". While the process of building a new home is stressful, Josh always took the time to communicate and keep us in the loop, which in turn took much of the stress out of the equation. If you are searching for a high quality new build, RCI is your builder! And if you are fortunate enough to have Josh as your PM, you can rest assured that you're in wonderful hands.

RCI built our "Lynn" home in Stags Leap slightly more than a year ago and today with great confidence, we can highly recommend RCI to those seeking a quality construction product. Experienced staff, professional, responsive and focused on client satisfaction made our choice easy. Special thanks to Sarah Wall (sales), Brian Peay (program management) and Jeff Drinkwater (customer service) for making our new home and maintenance free living a reality!

We purchased a spec house from RCI and it has been the best decision we have ever made. They spared no expense on the upgrades and we could not be happier. We were paired up with Josh as our project manager and he has gone above and beyond with his services. He introduced himself early in the buying process and at our two week walk through had already gone through the entire house and marked off all the things that needed attention and he did a better job than we ever could of! We would definitely build again with RCI and Josh!

Love everything about my new home at Luck Farm. It’s my dream house! I’ve been here four months, and so far, so good.

Top quality craftsmanship, finished on schedule, and sparkling clean when I walked in on day one.
They allowed a few custom modifications too, that I’m super happy with.

Project Manager Josh Kegel has been terrific to work with, very responsive and detail oriented.
(He earned extra stars too, for helping me dispense with that spider…haha)

Thanks, RCI Builders!

We built our home with RCI in Hickory Hill nearly 1 year ago. I am giving a rating of 5 for one main reason, and that reason is for our Project Manager, Troy.
As with any new build there are certainly things that do not go perfect. Or do not turn out the way you hoped or thought it would.
But every single step of the way Troy was right there as our advocate making sure things were as close to perfect as possible.
Even in one instance when we experienced a large problem well after closing, Troy took our call and played the role of advocate once again until it was resolved.
We absolutely love our home. RCI is beyond blessed to have Troy.

We used RCI Builders to build our dream home. Our Project Manager, Troy Szalay, was wonderful!! He was very responsive, addressed all questions and concerns we had throughout the process, and always made sure we were well-informed of the progress. We had such an amazing experience working with RCI builders for our new home. We absolutely love the finished product and quality! The staff is fantastic from start to finish! Our agent was phenomenal at keeping the mortgage process moving as it should. The support after moving in has also been fantastic, they really value their customer’s satisfaction with their product!

My wife and I recently completed the building process on what was to become our dream home with RCI. With our project manager, Brian Click at the helm - our dream home quickly became reality!

Finishing ahead of schedule, Brian and his team kept us in the loop with weekly (sometimes daily) updates. High quality care and work was maintained throughout the duration of the build.

Simply put – we are overjoyed at the finished product. Brian’s follow up and follow through work ethic kept us confident in our decision to build with RCI. We highly recommend this builder for your next home build. Five star quality and service.

Apologies for the length here - but if you are someone looking for a builder with great communication, transparency, and responsiveness - this is NOT the builder for you.

My husband and I inquired about a lot that was listed for sale in mid January 2022. We told them that we were very serious buyers and basically ready to start as soon as they were available. We tried alternating calling and emailing to get a hold of someone for more information, but we could only get a hold of someone for a single response at a time. They would reach out and say that they were so sorry we were having a hard time getting through to them, and then they would promptly drop the conversation again and not return our calls. This went on for about 3 weeks.

We then tried to reach out through our real estate agent (thinking they must just be super busy) and she got a hold of one of the original agents we tried to reach out to. She again completely apologized for our experience thus far, and then proceeded to again not return our calls or emails! It was infuriating.

She briefly told us that the company didn't "have good numbers" for the lot we were inquiring about, even though it had been listed on the market for about 6 months. She said she would get us information on it, but that they were going to take it off the market in the meantime. Low and behold, 4 weeks later of no communication back from her, they go and re-list the same lot $150k over what it was listed before, and even put the floor plan that we had inquired about as part of the listing. They never even bothered to let us know. I. could. scream.

I have no experience on the quality of work they perform, unfortunately we didn't get that far, and I am the first to say that I understand the difficulties that everyone is facing right now with supplies and lead times, but it costs ZERO dollars to be an upfront, honest, and responsive company. They wasted 6 weeks of our time and 3 weeks of our agent's time. Looking back, if we had built with RCI I can't imagine how awful that entire process could have been based on the client service we received. Buyer beware - unless you are looking to be dragged around and disrespected as a customer - you might want to look elsewhere.

We have built several homes in our 41 years of being married and without exception our experience with RCI builders has been exceptional! Brian Peay was a professional responsive and empathetic during the build. Ashley and Sara were just as helpful keeping us informed during the process of design and selections.

I would recommend them to anyone that wants to build a new home and if we ever build another home we would definitely use RCI again!

Expedient service and great communication throughout our home build with Troy. We are very happy with our new home. We also had our first post-closing walk through and the service team was great for the few minor touch ups needed. Ben coordinated the repairs and followed up after completion to make sure we were satisfied. Very happy with the service we're still receiving even after closing!

From our first walk thru at Luck Farm our experience has been nothing but wonderful. The contract process, design center, construction has been completely transparent. Myself being in the commercial construction industry and knowing the challenges 1st hand of the supply chain and labor, I will say RCI has done a World Class job of managing through all of those challenges as transparent and compassionate as any Contractor I have experienced. They have helped my wife and I build our forever home to enjoy with our family and friends for years to come.

RCI built our home for us. They were a great company to work with and had a systematic friendly way of getting you through the construction process that was helpful. They are a semi custom home builder which allows you to make changes to things that you would like. Our project manager Brian was great to work with and informative about the process. They use very skilled tradesmen and very good products. We would use them again in the future.

It's hard to capture in words how pleased we are with our home! In the middle of a pandemic, supply challenges and as first time homeowners, building from the ground up was overwhelming. Picking the home and the place was the easy part. The construction and the waiting was the hardest part of it all! However, our Project Manager, Troy S. provided the highest level of customer service from the moment we met to the day we moved in. He provided weekly updates, answered every text/phone call and full transparency of the process. AND, our home finished ahead of time! RCI is lucky to have him as a PM and if you get him as a PM, consider yourself lucky!

We are thrilled with our RCI home! The quality of the workmanship and dedication of the entire RCI team was exceptional. Our site manager, Ray Melton, answered our questions and offered suggestions to make our home perfect for us. We were so blessed to find them!

These guys are the biggest joke of a construction company I have ever seen in my life. I've worked for multiple construction companies over the course of my life and even the worst one I've worked for was still significantly better than RCI. They don't pay any attention to detail, they're impossible to get a hold of, and I currently have three clients who are still waiting on 45 day and 90 day walkthroughs. One of my clients has called 15 plus times to get no response. When we have to go in to work on houses that they built it's always a nightmare for us because things are out of square, studs are missing, drywall isn't nailed properly, roofing shingles are falling off. I even found an entire tin worth of nails on the roof of one of the houses they had built. If you're getting ready to use RCI bail before you ask yourself RC why

Good Morning,
I want to acknowledge how appreciative my wife and I are of your warranty manager, Tim Richardson. Tim takes the time to make sure everything is done right, and keeps in communication regularly to make sure projects are completed. On top of all he has going on, Tim keeps an upbeat, pleasant, and realistic outlook on his customers. Tim is a shining star and without a doubt, a major asset for RCI.
Fondly,
Julianne and Kevin Bamford

Where do I begin, I was under contracts and a few days later after signing the contract I was told the price went up another $10,000. I decided to walk away at that point and requested that my earnest money deposit to be refunded back to me. I never received my earnest money back in an appropriate time I had to keep following up with the builder sales agent and after a while the agent stop responding to my text email or phone call. My suggestion for anyone trying to use this builder is to be really careful. If you know you want a builder that will frustrate you, don’t stand by what they say and flip-flop then you can go with them. The builders sales agents are so unprofessional unresponsive and my suggestion to anyone trying to consider this builder is to look elsewhere as they have tons of other builders in the area that would respect and value your time.

Working with RCI’s warranty group was a great experience. Tim Richardson with RCI’s warranty department did a phenomenal job and was on top of all of our concerns and issues. He addressed every issue we had in a timely and detailed manner and we could not be more pleased and appreciative of everything he did to help us get all of warranty issues corrected.

RCI built my home. My comments are about the year end review. Jeff Drinkwater did an excellent job in finding things that needed attention. He was very professional and all repairs were done in a timely manner. He also made sure end results met his standards. Thank you Jeff for a job well done.

We found the Wilton with a BOYL base price of $320,490 (7.23.20). Our house was under contract which cleared inspection/appraisal effective 9.2.20. With a confirmed sales contract, a full 5% liquidated deposit, we were prepared to sign a BYOL contract with RCI. RCI told us No. The contract on our house needed to be fully executed, which was effective 9.30.20. On 9.30.20 we learned BOYL prices increased. The Wilton base price was now $347,990. We found the land, had the funds, and were told No. In that time RCI raised their prices $27,500.

We met RCI’s top sales agent to discuss new options/pricing. The 1st thing I and our agenda discussed was the price increase. The sales agent response was gosh, that’s tough but RCI does not negotiate.

2.12.21 was the Pre-Construction mtg with our Project Manager. Our PM was wonderful early on. After headaches/heartaches we felt we’d hit our groove. We met our PM on 4.21.21 for the electrical walkthrough. We didn’t speak with him again until 7.2.21.

Communication only occurred through text. Questions/concerns went unanswered, updates rarely shared. We reached out often, asked to schedule calls, asked for updates, no response. In June my husband mandated a call. Through text our PM gave us the timing of 7.19.21 around 8:30-9a. We were ready with our discussion list. He never joined the Zoom. We texted, he messaged back he was running late - he would get his laptop and join. He blew off the meeting.

I called RCI to escalate and a supervisor reached out. He validated there was a significant breakdown in communication, yet defended the PM in most areas. Our PM texted the following day with an apology and asked to meet in-person. We met on 7.2.21, we were scheduled to close on 7.29.21. My husband identified a popping in the subfloor on 5.16.21 (marked through text, and followed up on 8 times), 7.2.21 the floor was unfixed. Our PM took notes and said he’d get his crews working on the list. We visited the house daily to review progress. I emailed our PM asking for an update on the list we discussed on 7.2.21. Two days later I found my email printed on the kitchen counter. I only assume the notes he captured were balled up and thrown in the dumpster.

Our PM, the supervisor and both agents joined our final walkthrough on 7.22.21 The rear decks were incomplete, subfloor still popped, numerous electrical and drywall issues. It was concerning knowing we were closing in a week. We were reassured all would be done. A specific point noted was the painters would be given two days to give the full house, interior/exterior, a final coat. Never happened.

3 days before closing my husband raised concerns. Our final appraisal and county inspectors were due for the mortgage loan. 2 days prior to closing, our PM called to say he would spend the afternoon at our house. Those 2 days were a blitz to finish the house. We’re told by neighbors it was a constant stream of contractors in/out.

The afternoon before closing (7.28.21) we met our PM for a final walkthrough. There was no final paint coat, there were visible drywall patches, lengths of trim unpainted, unfinished hardwood stairs. Shoe molding on the kitchen cabinets had not been installed properly. Protruding nails were found when my husband cut his foot while in his socked feet. Our PM assured us he would have everything finished by the next day.

We should not have closed on 7.29.21. We walked out of the law office at 12p with keys in hand. That afternoon we took our U-Haul to our new home and pulled up to three work crews inside our home: cabinet, painting, and flooring. Livid. In the blitz to finish the house we received shoddy, half-finished work. Carrying belongings into a home we now own while trying not to get paint on pieces of furniture/clothing. We were told we couldn’t go upstairs because the flooring crew polyurethaned the stairs at 3:00p the DAY WE CLOSED!

There are issues in every single room of this house.

Do not purchase a home with RCI Builders.

We drew out a design for a unique house we wanted, but due to budget we had to make some changes, and RCI helped us with the redesign. We were blessed with a wonderful Realtor, Keith Harding, who introduced us to our amazing builder Troy Szalay. Troy answered all our calls and texts quickly, and he called us with updates every week. He and his team did an amazing job. Ashley Cahoon was awesome in assisting us with design choices.
The main complaint we have is the air conditioner units were placed right outside a bedroom window blocking view of our property which is why we moved here, and which we were told they would center away from the windows. Once we saw what they were doing we asked to have them moved but no response and that was not changed. Also wish windows opened at top also.
RCI did use top quality products and they say they stand by their work. We believe and hope they will. Roger Shepherd has already come by and it hasn't even been a month. Overall things turned out better than we imagined and it is beautiful! There were other issues too, but compared to other builders We believe they do good work. We would recommend all of the above mentioned.

All I can say is just don't buy an RCI home. That should say it all. Addendum: they never did a walk thru at 11 months and all that we asked to be replaced or fixed went undone. Lip service only. We are now here a year 9 months and the back door lock broke. Called as it has a lifetime warranty and was nastily told by Alicia (customer service manager) that we are out of warranty and she would have someone call from the office. We call this turfing in the medical field. NO ONE called. One more item we had to replace at our cost because of shoddy material use.

**Here we are 3 years into this "build" and finally a response from RCI and Tripple Electric. The outlets upstairs are DEAD and when called was told OUT OF WARRANTY. What warranty??? Complained, asked nicely, begged for a final inspection and NEVER received one. SO much wrong with this house I advise anyone looking to buy in this area use another builder! So far we have replaced dry wall, the non working fireplace, flooring and a cooktop. Now the dishwasher which was a problem from day 1 and their fix was to reinstall it with duck tape is going South and it will be time to replace it. The floors gap and Costen told me it is RCI not them who is at fault as the subfloor is uneven and that is not their problem. Spent over 10K regrading the back and installing a french drain as water back up was a huge problem (many neighbors have done the same - all after discussions with RCI) and now my electrical outlets are starting to fail. My advice stay away from RCI and Hometown realty who push their product. When they say that houses are now made with tissue paper and toothpicks I think they are talking about RCI. This is house #10 for us and the WORST ever. Had 2 other new builds and have to say Eagle was wonderful. Three years after moving into the house got a knock on the door with a rep from Eagle saying they were replacing white cabinet4 doors because they were turning yellow (3 YEARS after purchase!!) Never got a walk thru or any answers from RCI during year one. Buyer beware or know that when you buy from RCI you buying as is.

This is our second house we have had RCI Builders construct for us in the past seven years and we had dealt with Troy Szalay during the first house build as he was in the service department performing the 45 day and 1 year inspections. We learned from Kaitlyn Gwaltney (RCI Builders site agent for Hickory Hill) that Troy was going to be our Project Manager and would be leading the construction of our new house. Kaitlyn provided excellent guidance through the contract process and the structural design of the house. Then once Kaitlyn passed us on to Troy we would receive a weekly text update on the construction process. He would always answer any questions we had on the build. We are happy and glad RCI Builders constructed our house and they can do the same for you.

Service questions
1. Should I stay home during roof replacement?
+-

It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
