We recently tried to have our house designed by Robert from ProDraft and it ended up in a disaster. After discussing the terms for about 4 weeks and hearing all the great things, first draft in 2-3 days, finished design in 2-4 weeks, fastest design company in Hawaii,... we entered into an agreement in October 2024 and paid the deposit (23K!). Despite we provided all our design ideas immediately, it took more than 3 weeks to get a first draft. As part of the agreement, Robert would consider the budget in the design. None of this was included or considered. The design process went super slow, lots of excuses from his end, and instead of bringing in ideas to solve issues, he came forward with plans that were not possible for example building codes or restrictions that he was aware of. After 3 months of trying we had to pull the plug as this project was not going anywhere. We had lost lots of time and ended up with nothing usable or close to a design, so we asked for 1/2 our deposit back which we thought was more than fair. Robert refused and instead sent us an additional invoice for 12 weeks of full-time work with hours he just made up. What a joke. If he would have worked that much on our project we would have received more than just the 4 simple drafts in 3 months that he had delivered to us! We talked to a few lawyers and he is not without blemish. Don't waste money like we did and look somewhere else if you want a house designed.
On a positive note: we found another great designer and he could get us the house design we were looking for in 4 weeks.
