During 2020 I determined I had to replace my 2nd story deck on the back of my home for safety reasons as the decking had rotted through and was dangerous to stand on. I wanted to upgrade the deck to be PVC wrapped and change the material from pressure treated lumber to a composite. I also wanted to add a deck drain system, so that the space underneath would be dry during poor weather.
I received several bids from various area contractors all of which I had issues with during the bid process for several reasons including refusal to bid the scope of work as I described, not itemizing the bid so I could see where I could increase/decrease expenditures, etc. I had one bid that literally came back as "Deck....$30,000.00" and that was it!! I had another contractor state that it would cost $6,000-$8,000 to add the deck drain system, which I knew was an excessively high estimate.
Enter PHSI. Al came by the house and we discussed my project for over 90 minutes. He knew exactly what materials were needed and what my options were. He knew what portions of the deck could be salvaged (the substructure) and what could not be reused. He also made suggested we PVC wrap the deck underneath and add a beautiful ceiling in along with an LED light system and added electrical to support the lighting and an outdoor television. He also wired in a 240 volt heater which adds much needed warmth during colder periods.
He was also very helpful with minor change orders and complications. The prior deck builder did not properly secure the deck posts, which his team identified and corrected making the deck safer than it was previously.
I would highly recommend the use of PHSI for your home improvement needs. The attention to detail and customer service are simply top notch. We used Premier for replacement of our HVAC units upstairs and downstairs. Christopher Chesla was fantastic. They were able to send Chris out the same day that we called! He was very thorough and took pictures and videos of him testing the system. He provided all options and didn’t push for the most expensive but explained the benefits. We really appreciated the fact that he wasn’t pushy. He helped us through financing options and provided a hand written contract before he left. The crew that came the next day worked for 12 hours so that we would have air on all three floors instead of taking the two day that was originally quoted.
