They were clean, didn't play loud music, and didn't use my electricity or request the use if my potty which was awesome! Not 1 nail has been found in the yard...not 1.
1. Nick was amazing to work with as he answered all our questions even after hours. However I did notice a significant drop off as we drew closer to install, during, and after.
2. They initially declined our request for waiver of lien, licensing/contractor’s credentials, and insurance information. We found them anyway! This was a huge red flag for us, and it may be for you as well.
3. We also asked them for itemized charges, which they declined.
4. After install, we kept sending the same list of repairs needed, and each time his guy would come out, only a few items would be repaired and new problems would be created.
5. They sawed through a solid 3-4 inch dryer vent pipe that stood about a foot higher than the decking and stuffed a roof vent on top of it, leaving the pipe just at or below the bottom of the decking threshold. When asked why they did this, we were told by Tino that "I couldn't fit our vent cap onto the roof otherwise".
6. They did come several times to attempt to correct the newly created moisture problem in the attic, and ended up replacing the cap with a more proper one, and sealing the remaining leaks with our heat tape. I would have preferred them not to touch my pipes if they didn’t know what they were doing.
7. Upon inspection of this particular repair, we discovered that they also broke the decking in half, adjacent to the dryer vent. Their resolve: they pushed the broken decking back in place and claimed it gave no leeway when stepped on. I will have to rig it from the attic to make it safe later on!
8. They replaced the flashing and the cap on the HVAC pipe but in doing so, dislocated the internal pipes downward about a foot. Their fix was to push the internal piping back up and use flex tape around the joint that seemed to be broken. We are now real nervous to use the furnace.
9. They charged us for chimney flashing but did some kind of rigging, instead, with the existing flashing. They had a valid reason, which was that the mortar was getting old, and I understand that but...to my knowledge we were still charged for what people would consider normal flashing; you know, the kind that looks good. Underneath their strange rigging is flashing, but...it appears to be the flashing used on the edge of the house instead of chimney flashing. Why was this not refunded to us? Always make sure to get itemized charges just for this purpose.
10. They didn't leave us the extra shingle bricks which we paid for, and didn't refund us for them either. Always make sure to get itemized charges just for this purpose.
11. Loading bricks of shingles onto the house was fine, but...on the second day they started placing them near their respective install sites and....BOOM, BOOM!, BOOM! They were dropping 80+ lbs bricks of shingles, from the shoulder, onto the decking of the house. This broke the ridge of the house which they refused to fix.
12. They were kind enough to fix a few problems other contractors created, which we appreciate.
13. All said, the roof looks great and we understand that with any large project there are going to be problems, but it just seems most of these problems have a common theme. Therefore, I probably wouldn't hire this company again. That's not to say they are terrible; I've delt with many contracts and many contractors and Point Roof is still somewhere toward the top. However, if you are concerned with numbers, whole unaltered pipes, ridge collapses, 80+ lbs bricks of shingles being physically dropped onto the deck, and CO2 poisoning, you might want to put a camera on these guys and make sure they know they are being watched.
