Phinney Ridge Painting

We hired Phinney Ridge to clean and refinish the wooden soffits of our mid-century home. The process turned out to be more complex than they thought, but they stuck it out and completed the project with no change orders. PM Jarrod and lead painter Roberto were excellent communicators throughout. It looks great and feels like an excellent investment in the restoration of this home.

This was our third interior painting project working with Phinney Ridge. Previously we did ceilings, cabinet work, and this time we got two office/bedrooms done and a large theater room. Every time, the crews have had strong attention to detail and the project managers/estimators have been very nice to work with, so we hired them again. Falco, who was the painter on the project, did a great job of the rooms and was very efficient. I'd recommend them for paint projects in the Seattle area.

From our initial estimate meeting to final completion, we were very happy we chose Phinney Ridge Painting for our exterior painting project on our 1937 home. With almost 90 years of paint on our cedar shakes, we thought we might have to replace the siding on our house. Phinney Ridge assured us that we shouldn't touch our virgin cedar and that it was in good shape beneath all the paint. They were able to shave the paint off in the places that looked rough using all the proper safety precautions. Then their carpentry team was able to fix the very few places that did indeed need replacing. Finally, their painting team did a beautiful job. Everyone was communicative and friendly and they finished our project in the time promised. We highly recommend them.

We had our back decking and two gates into our yard replaced, and some repairs done on our basement windows by Phinney Ridge Painting. The crew was easy to work with and the quality of the work was excellent, especially Wesley's precise deck replacement. We have contracted with them for additional work. We wholeheartedly recommend PRP for exterior work.

Phinney Ridge Painting did a fantastic job painting our house and handling the small carpentry job that went with it. The prep crew, Vidal and Zaria, did a great job being careful and thorough. The painting crew, Poli and especially Irvin, were awesome too and they made our house look incredible. Julio was our carpenter and he took care of business, no fuss, no muss, no bother, even though our older house threw in some surprises. We are very pleased!

Phinney Ridge Painting is really good. We have a 100 year old victorian in ballard that had been through multiple paint jobs of dubious quality. We had the exterior fully repainted (taken down to bare wood in many parts). They also scrubbed down our decks, redid the porch paint, and helped restore our antique front door.

On the painting side, erica and her crew were probably one of the most meticulous and thorough contracting crews I've ever watched. They came through, did an _amazingly_ thorough prep job around the entire house, fixed/replaced up rotted wood everywhere, and then came through again to prep, tape, and paint. I swear they worked overtime on multiple days getting things just right, were always friendly, and worked around our comings/goings with kids etc.

Complementing them on carpentry side, Nick and his team were super thorough and thoughtful. They even pointed me at a possible ant incursion and stair safety issues which they noticed while working.

Coordination was also top notch. Both Ryan M and Ryan A are responsive managers that are on top of quality with an eye for detail.

As others have said, Phinney Ridge painting bids higher than most, but the work you're getting is a different level.

It's rare to pick the higher end of multiple bids and then walk away thinking "wow... given the work that is being done, I think I actually got a deal."

That happened here.

We chose Phinney Ridge Painting (PRP) despite not being the lowest cost because of how they described how the job would be done, in particular regarding dealing with lead paint.

They started in the early spring of 2025 prepping my house. They paint-shaved to remove all of the lead paint and did tight lead abatement control. They went the extra mile to allay concerns of our neighbors who have an infant.

They came back in dry weather to do the painting using top-of-the-line quality paint products sourced from different vendors. The primer they used (XIM Peel Bond) is a special formulation I was not familiar with that seemed to do a really good job and a high quality product.

Throughout the whole process, everyone at PRP was pleasant - the estimator, Ned; the project manager, Ryan; and especially the field crew Javier & Evan (my spanish improved). Javier & Evan were very pleasant and did excellent, detailed work. They kept the job site well-organized and clean.

We are very happy with our newly-painted house!

Phinney Ridge Painting did an amazing job when they took on our 1926 home. Both the paint and carpentry teams were presented with a wide set of challenges including years of lead paint to manage along with several critical repair projects. We knew buying an older home a year ago would be full of discoveries, both good and bad, and when new challenges were uncovered, Phinney Ridge painted provided sound plans and clear communication on each set up the project. They graciously accommodated our shifting timeline due to weather and color selection challenges with outside consultants. When the dust and paint settled, the neighborhood ur in love with the new color and life brought back to this home. Phinney Ridge Painting was recommended to me by a personal friend that had the interior of their house painted recently. I have been very happy with the service. The first phase of the project was to paint my living room/dining room and Luis and Noah did a great job, even moving the furniture. Then I had new carpeting installed. The second phase was to paint the kitchen and back entry, and to touch up any problems from the carpet install. Falco also did a great job and went out of his way to help me re-install the blind in my kitchen window. All of them were very personable and friendly, and competent at their job. They showed up on time and got right to work. I would definitely work with any of them again.

Phinney Ridge Painters painted a bedroom, living room, and bathroom for us over 5 days and did an excellent job. They spent 3 days of the 5 preparing the walls (old house!), and the finish is superb. They also worked hard to meet us on our schedule, coming to the house at 7:50 am as we left with the kids for school and also following instructions on where to leave the keys, etc. We plan to keep painting the house, and we will return to them. We got quotes from three painters, and their prices were super competitive. No concerns at all.....

Phinney Ridge did an outstanding job on our recent interior painting project. The work was complicated by having to protect and paint around extensive trim and many built-in components that were not being painted. I hired Phinney to demo old acoustic ceiling tiles and replace them with new drywall and a crown. They were a bit more expensive than the other companies I engaged, but considerably more thorough and collaborative in the bidding process. The attention to detail and excellent communication continued throughout the project. Both the Ryans were stellar PMs with regular check-ins to make sure stuff was on track. Special shout out to Sebastian and Javier, who did an impeccable job with the drywall + paint + clean up, worked extra long days to get stuff done on my timeline, and were generally just a pleasure to be around.

We had new windows put in and had Phinney Ridge Painting do the indoor trim. Lallo did an exceptionally good job, with meticulous work and detail. The color matching was difficult with the existing paint, but Ryan hit it perfectly as well. I am sure the exterior will be equally great...once the weather allows :)

We so appreciated working with Phinney Ridge on the job. From Ned’s really helpful initial walk about and estimation to Ashley’s color consult. Lalo and Elder were great. So careful, so good at showing up in a timely manner, setting up and cleaning up – and of course the hard work of prep and application. Ryan Arnold and Jemelle – the carpentry crew – were also prompt and professional; made short work of their part. And you, Ryan, were so relentless in making sure the paint job was up to your standards – even with fall rains and the coverage issues over the old paint. (Sorry you have to come back for the Tufflex balcony stuff in the spring – but happy you want to get it right.)

This summer Phinney Ridge Painting painted the exterior of my 110 year old house and I am so happy I hired them and with the final results! Jairo, Jose, Emerson, Ryan, Ned and the full painting crew were a wonderful team through every step of the process.

The bid was not the lowest, but Phinney stood out in several areas: 1) Nik (owner) bid the project and was the only company that wouldn't paint my house a dark blue color I was set-on. Nik explained the siding on my 110 year old house was original, and due to the location of the house and sun exposure the dark blue would heat up the siding too much and ultimately damage it. 2) Painters are company employees with full benefits, employed all year long 3) They are obsessed with the prepping process and this ultimately produces such great results and I love the comfort of 7 year warranty.

I have gotten so many compliments on the final results and the paint work.

If I could give 10 stars I would. They matched my color perfectly, took great care for neatness, cleaned up everyday. Painted the exterior of my house, and sanded and refreshed all the wood of the decks and fences. Polite, professional and a jewel of a company to deal with. It felt like they took as much care of my house as they would their own. I had seen them working on another house in the neighborhood and was super impressed with the attention to detail and professionalism. On that house some of the wood needed to be replaced and was matched. When they were finished the house looked like new. I decided that this was the only company I would contact for the work on my house. I am so glad I did. I highly recommend them. There were also little touches they did with the painting that made my house look even better than before. (Painting the downspouts the same color of the house behind it - white on some areas, teal on the major part of the house, black on the belly band.) The downspouts blend seamlessly in with the house. Try them, you will not be disappointed.

Phinney Ridge Painting was great. We hired them to paint the house, but they found water damage and it turned into a scary large repair job, but their construction crew did quality work and made it all manageable. They went out of their way to try to minimize the impact the work had on our use of our house.

We recently hired Phinney Ridge Painting to install new cabinets to extend the kitchen area and repaint our new and existing to match. Having been through 4 years of construction and renovation, they have been one of the best trades/companies we’ve dealt with. Every step of the process and employee were very professional and such a pleasure to deal with.

Phinney Ridge met all my criteria and then some. They inspected my house, found areas that needed work, had carpenters at the ready, and had a color specialist come to my house to help me decide on my colors.
One thing I really appreciated was that if there were any areas that I needed to understand or clarify, I could get on the phone and call Ryan, who I call my liaison guy, and he would be completely responsive to my needs. He made sure that whatever was needed to be done was done.

We've used several different painters over the years, but the job that Phinney Ridge Painting just did for us stands out head and shoulders above the rest. The very experienced workers clearly pride themselves on a job well done. We also had them do some carpentry work that needed to happen before the painting could start. (Replacing some boards on the porch, replacing some posts) That team also did a great job. Our has hasn't looked this good since we bought it 25 years ago. Sebastian, Ryan and team were amazing to work with on our exterior painting project. Professional, organized, and simply easy to coordinate with. They say they'll be there -- they'll be there. Would highly recommend.

Phinney isn't cheap but you get what you pay for. They painted four colors on my 3 1/2 story 3700 sq ft house built into the side of a hill with only the standard Seattle 12-14 foot sides between houses. Didn't need scaffolding or stepjacks, saving me money. They basically did the job when scheduled (mid August). I was worried about someone falling/getting hurt so we discussed safety plans and they followed them. Also discussed prep work and a couple fixes (that I did). Never had a disagreement, they worked around my schedule and accommodated our window air conditioners. Only thing left after their cleanup were a couple hidden bits of blue tape. One of the colors wasn't right (a bit off tint of my chosen color) and they made it right at their cost. They gave me the Lalo crew and they were very professional. Ryan was on top of the project throughout, and he was honest and fair about pricing and a change I requested. Seriously, the only way this could have been better would have been a lower price but the price was fair for the work done. I would/will use them again.

I could go into a million lovely details about my experience with this company, but here are some highlights. Communication is excellent. Workers are knowledgeable, punctual, and very detail-oriented. We have an old house with lead paint, and we needed repairs, and came upon some unexpected things along the way; it was not a simple job in my mind. But somehow, it all went smoothly. Special high praise to Ryan M, our project manager; Jairo, our lead painter, and Brendon, one of the carpenters. These three people kept the communication flowing and that kept me sane. Every other worker I met was skilled, efficient, hard working, and friendly. As a customer, this is a five star team doing a five star job.

We recently had most of the interior of our house painted - a huge job! Working with painter Falco Avcu was a pleasure at all times. He is a perfectionist, with a work ethic that is inspiring. He was consistent, accurate, and thorough. Communicating with Jerrod McKinley was also very easy, and clear. Phinney Ridge Painting is a solid, trust worthy painting business. We also had complimentary color consultation that was extremely helpful. Jerrod and Falco went above and beyond, repairing a closet door. I wish I could give more than 5 stars! Very happy with whole process and end result. We will miss Falco!

Phinney Ridge Painting did an excellent job painting the exterior of our 1926 home in Wallingford. Ryan Manthey was our project manager who was extremely communicative down to little details I never would have thought of (but would have cared about if I had thought of it)! Our main painters there every day were Jairo and Emerson who were a JOY to have around. We also had Jose on occasion. They were considerate of us coming/going from the house and trying to step around all of the lead paint chips with our dog. I even saw them cover a stranger's car in front of our house with plastic so small paint spray dots wouldn't inadvertently land on their car. We're so pleased with the final product and really glad we went with Phinney Ridge to do this big job.

Phinney Ridge painting did a wonderful job on repainting the main portion of my interior. From the bidding process with Ned to the excellent professional painting of Falco, I was extremely satisfied with the outcome. They were careful, paid attention to detail, and the results were outstanding.

I liked that Phinney Ridge Painting is a NPR supporter. Ned was a pleasure to work with and they were accommodating to all requests. They did an outstanding job on a furniture refinish, but as far as the interior painting cannot recommend based on my experience. The preparation left small holes, and walls not properly cleaned, leaving paint dust balls on the walls. Several areas completely missed in being painted along with drips in the painting. Though everything looked like it was covered and protected they somehow got paint over electrical cords, wood trim and sink countertop having paint on it requiring work on my part to clean up even after they did several follow-ups to fix everything highlighted. Today replacing 3 recessed lights 2 out of the 3 bulbs had paint on them. They also did not initially match the paint to a wall as requested with a paint sample when I realized the color consultant’s choice not a close match, and they had to come back and repaint that area. Lastly, they said they were done with the work ready to leave and they had not even started yet a very important scope of the project of sanding and revarnishing wood cabinets trim and windowsills. They just tried to put one coat of linseed oil and call it done but not even close to the project outlined. Had them come back to finish but the project was still not a 100 percent complete so they offered a $150 discount after I requested a discount so I could finish myself. I chose Phinney Ridge over another premium painter since a week faster estimate to complete the job and easy to work with initially. Many of the problems I believe stem from communication issues with the painters and a language barrier preventing effective communication. Overall spent a considerable amount of time trying to fix issues due to sloppy painting and communication issues.

Phinney Ridge just finished up painting our entire first floor and front and back doors. The painter, Falco, did an outstanding job - it all looks great and he was very professional, amazingly efficient, and a pleasure to work with and have in our house. We would not hesitate in recommending Phinney Ridge (and Falco!) for paint work.

They canceled the day before the project was supposed to start, so I cannot speak to the quality of their work. The communication on the front end of the project had some issues, they didn’t share information well internally, didn’t listen despite multiple attempts to achieve understanding, and ultimately they blamed the issues on us. Very surprised given the great reviews. I hope no one else ever has a similar experience, and wanted to review in case it becomes a pattern in the future.

At the recommendation of our interior designer/stylist we hired Phinney Ridge Painting to paint the interior of our house. I couldn't be happier with the experience we had with them. When we had them out to quote, Ned came over and spent as much time as we needed to walk through the entire house, talk about what we wanted to do, and even helped make some recommendations to us. From the very beginning, he inspired a lot of confidence in the company. We ultimately decided to have them do our trim, walls, and ceiling. The crew they had do the painting was outstanding and extremely professional. They showed up on time every day, worked full days every day, and were so respectful of our house. They cleaned up every evening before going home and when they were working on our kitchen even made sure that we could get access to it every night. We couldn't be happier with the end result. They went way beyond just applying a new coat of paint to everything - every single imperfection in the walls/trim/ceiling was patched and fixed.

We had such a great experience with painting that we plan to use them for a few carpentry jobs here in the near future.

We hired Phinney Ridge to paint our home. Unfortunately, our second story balcony was found to be rotten and had to be rebuilt before the house could be painted. Just wrapped an interior paint job done by the crew at PRP of our Ballard bungalow. Involved stripping two layers of wallpaper, skim-coating, then priming and painting. Very good process from start to finish - protected everything, cleaned up appropriately each day, then did a final touchup and clean up that left me searching for something to find wrong. Couldn't find anything! Highly recommend PRP.

We had new windows installed that needed the inside wood stained and varnished to match the 1920’s trim from the original windows, plus the inside and outside trim painted for the other vinyl windows installed. Phinney Ridge Painting did an amazing job on my home. Our 1961 home had not been painted in decades and after a lot of professionally executed hard work it looks brand new. Also, they do a really excellent job of keeping you informed and supported through the whole process. I would not go anywhere else for my painting needs.

The entire staff at Phinney Ridge was responsible, always on time, very good at communicating what needed to be done and what they were going to do, and generally very professional to deal with. In addition, they did a great job at basic carpentry and interior painting. We would not hesitate to hire them again for any job. The managers, the carpenters, and the painters were all a breath of fresh air, and the world of home, maintenance and repair work!

We had an excellent experience with Phinney Ridge Painting! Our older, cedar-sided house needed an exterior paint job. Along with some minor carpentry and gutter work. PRP was very helpful and professional from estimate at start to final walk-thru at end. It was great to have a project manager. Israel was super responsive to every request, question, concern. Painting crews were punctual, organized, neat, friendly and did excellent work. The paint job turned out wonderfully. We are 100% happy and fully recommend PRP!
5/24 Update-it’s been almost a year and our house still looks great! No probs w/paint. Everything looks fresh and clean.

Phinney Ridge Painting did a great job repainting water damage to our dining room ceiling and repairing and repainting drywall where we had a plumbing repair. Their worker, Luis, was fast, efficient and did an expert job, as well as great clean-up and was very professional.
7/7/23: We had an additional job done by Phinney Ridge; stripping and refinishing our porch built-in benches and railings. They badly needed refinishing after years of my amateur attempts to maintain them. Again Luis, mentioned above, began the job but the bulk of the work was done by Xavier and he did a great job. He applied an eco-friendly stripping compound that was safe to use around our garden and planted pots, then carefully scrapped it off. He was meticulous in this process and even more so in the laborious sanding that followed, with careful sanding of the many tight areas between close-set rails and boards on the benches. Then followed stain application, again a long process of applying the stain and then wiping off the excess. The final result is a lovely renewal of the extensive woodwork of our porch.

Phinney Ridge Painting just finished painting most of the interior of our house. The did a great job. They were very careful about everything they did. They prepped extremely well (a timely endeavor), protected property very well, painted carefully. And inspected the work repeatedly. No shortcuts. Stanley, the lead, was professional, worked hard (but not hurriedly), supervised the work of the other painters well and was friendly. Even the use of color consultants was very helpful. One of the best painting jobs we've ever had.

Phinney Ridge painted the exterior of our 1930 Tudor and we would highly recommend them. Stanley led the team of painters and ensured that we had a great experience - everyone was friendly and professional. Stanley really listened to our needs and worked to accommodate our requests and also offered advice. We ended up changing a decision on a color for a door after the first coat was painted already (totally on us) and the team couldn't have been nicer about it. Our house, in classic Seattle old house style, is on top of some steep steps, in very rough baseline shape, and not the easiest to paint in the heat of summer, but they did a great job. We've had nearby general contractors for neighbors come by and compliment the work, saying that it was done right.

We've used them twice now for interior painting -- the first was one bedroom, as kind of a test, and just recently we've had them do our whole first floor. Both times they've done an excellent job, and it's amazing how fast they work.
