Nelson Ace Hardware

I purchased an Ego mower. Unlike my other Ego products, this one started in a different fashion than the other Ego products I own. There was confusion which they tried to rectify. I ended up having to take the mower back in to find out what the issue was. I am giving 4 stars because the misunderstanding could have been easily resolved if they had pointed out you must hold the button in while pulling the bar (unlike Ego snow blowers, etc). However annoying, it was a misunderstanding which they tried to resolve and the kid was as nice as he could be.

Shopping at Ace Hardware has always been a positive experience. Everyone is very friendly and helpful above and beyond what they need to be doing. I never hesitate to go there.

The Nelson Hardware Team is first rate in Barre, Vt. As a former manager of hundreds of medical staff, I can attest to the Patient Satisfaction behaviors exhibited by the staff at Nelson Ace Hardware. Their salutations upon arrival, their offers to assist and guide you through the store aisles to your purchase needs, their inquiries of any questions about various products, and most importantly, their smiles and willingness to assist, are second to none in the Barre market. We received a message from Annette to come back to the store and speak to her, which we did. She gave us the service we have come to know and love at Ace, and even went above and beyond to honor the deal for us. We appreciate all who work at Ace, and will be customers for life. We’ve been to ace a few times for various house repair projects and we’re always greeted with a warm and welcome environment. Recently however, that hasn’t been the case. We went in today to buy a space heater and grabbed a lasco ceramic heater with a stand for the ticket price of 79.99, but when it was rang up, it came up for 89.99. We asked about the price difference and we were told that if it said the price that we saw they would honor it and they went to look at the tag. When they came back they brought over two tags: one that stated the he price we saw of 79.99 and the other one for the 89.99. They stated that the fan was in the wrong spot and that they wouldn’t honor the price. We explained that we didn’t know it was in the wrong spot as we grabbed the last one and asked if they wouldn’t honor honor the price on the ticket, they said no and offered us 10% off the actual price.

This experience left us with a bad taste in our mouth as we didn’t know that it wasn’t the price, the tag nor the fan were in the right place but in the aisle of heaters there was no other place it could have gone. I wish they would have just honored the price that we saw it for instead of fighting us for a dollar.

This is a great hardware store. A terrific, knowledgeable staff and a store full of things you need or will soon need. And they are very helpful when things go wrong. My Ego lawnmower stopped working after two years. After poking around at it, Nelson returned it to ego and got me a brand new free mower. Ego certainly deserves credit as well, but it was the helpful staff going to bat for me that made the difference. You can’t do that sort of thing with Amazon!

Every time I need something fix your repaired I bring it to their staff and they take care of it perfectly each and every time at a very reasonable rate and a quick turnaround. Very very impressed. The staff is friendly helpful. The store is well stock. Wonderful store.
I just brought them a Rug Doctor and it’s running like it’s brand new. Great job.

Bob Nelson and his entire staff are excellent. They are all well-trained, courteous, knowledgeable, good communicators, and always will do that little bit extra to make sure you are getting the right product for your job. If they don't have exactly what I need or want, they will order it for me, it will be there in just a couple of days, and they will notify me right away. Far better than any of the big box chain stores! I shop there several times each week and it feels like visiting family.

Unpleasant store to try and browse around. Staff members constantly jump out and want to know what your looking for and if you don't tell them they obnoxiously follow you. If it's close to closing time it will be made clear to you to put your items down and leave. Have tried several times to visit this store but always feel uncomfortable and leave after a few minutes.
Update
Have visited twice more since it's the only option locally for certain items. If you pick up an item any item when you first enter you can tell the staff you found what you need and they will let you browse. Would give more stars but the obnoxious jerk from my first review gives me dirty looks so it's still uncomfortable there.

I've said this before, if the kid was 20 I would be surprised. Knowledgeable, Helpful, funny, but most importantly kind people working there. I've been to a number of ACE Hardwares all over the country, bar none, no other chain, no other ACE can hold a candle to this gem.

Nelson's is an awesome locally-owned Ace. The owner is stand up guy and this place has some of the best staffing you're going to find nowadays. Was personally very helpful when I had a large amount of paint that needed mixing and color matching, and we frequent them for a reason. I don't normally review a hardware store but I couldn't be happier with Nelson's.

We recently bought a house and moved to Barre from across the county. We have a ton of home improvement projects
so we visited Ace Hardware and was thoroughly impressed with the exceptional customer service and extensive product range. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and went out of their way to assist me in finding exactly what I needed, offering useful advice and tips.

Nelson's Hardware is our hometown hardware store that carries a huge inventory, even in comparison to national chains. You know what else they have?? THE MOST AMAZING, helpful, friendly, customer centric staff of any business around. THANK YOU for sticking it out through a terrible flood, and building back so you could continue to serve us. The business itself carries a lot of items but often not the items you're looking for. And for the sake of my own sanity.
Please train more people to be able to cut keys and cut specialty keys. You are one of the only local places that can cut some specialty keys. But every time I have ever needed a key cuthere's a person that is not there is the only person who knows how to cut it with your machines.

Great "little" hardware store that spans about 3 buildings on Main Street in Barre, VT. They got it all (minus lumber) and some of the nicest people around. Plus, THIS Ace Hardware offers 10% Veteran discount unlike my Ace in Iowa.

I’ve been going there a few years to get things for work and am blown away by the friendly attentive customer service , which is the complete opposite of other places I’ve been…
I’ve met a lot of awesome dogs there over the years and realized mine hadn’t been there as I’m usually there on the clock so brought her down this morning as I needed a couple keys made and we both left on cloud 9!!!

This is the best Hardware Store in Berlin, Barre Vermont. They go out of their way to meet your needs. They could easily put Walmart in Barre out of business!!

Excellent service.. helped immediately for a piece of flex pipe we needed to fix a water line and they cut the length we needed from a large roll.... think we walked out with everything we needed under $6 bucks!! Whoo hoo and didn't have to buy the whole roll like another supplier!! Everyone was friendly and helpful. Looking for something else today and going there first... sorry Aubuchon and TS...

I was greeted right away. I went to the section I needed something and wasn't there less than 30 seconds and was asked if I needed assistance! I was very impressed with the staffing levels and assistance provided. I was a first time shopper here and was extremely impressed with the level of service. I had been an Aubuchon customer in the past and the service and atmosphere here was far superior. You have earned a new customer!

Immediately helpful, clearly knowledgeable, and pleasant. The Nelson's team was functioning as a team so soon after a major flood. I was very happy with my experience!

After a terrible shopping experience at Aubuchon's this morning I headed to Nelson's. The staff was extremely helpful and kind. I was able to get everything I needed and will shop at this location for every future hardware purchase. Thank you for all that you do and your outstanding service.

I could not let any time go by before I left a comment about my visit today. Today has been pretty dicey weatherwise. The parking spaces and steps into the store were very slippery. Two young employees were diligently scraping to clear the area. But what blessed me is that while one scraped the area ahead of me as I walked reward the door, the other lent me their hand to assist. The same was true as I exited. He walked me right up to my car and even opened my door. Talk about going the extra mile. Kudos!! And thank you.

The home hardware store of stores. Very helpful staff that come to you. No searching for what you need. They know we're it is and the best way you use it. Worth the trip if you are not close. Wish more stores were like this one.

Every time I go in there, a staff member never fails to address me and ask if I need help. Really great service with a personal touch. The store has a great selection, good prices and good vibes all around.

I just wanted to update another meaningful experience with Nelson's. When I asked to hang up a flier for our annual seed swap event this Saturday I was not only offered to hang up one but one on each entrance. It may seem trivial but it was a warm example of a community business supporting community events. Again, thank you for helping us get the word out, in addition to my other friendly interactions with your company. :)
