If I could give 0 stars I would and I’m not one to review but Mr. Home is a complete scam!!! Had my cellar trenched in the fall with a new pump put in by them. Everything looked and sounded fine with the pump until about a month ago I went downstairs and heard it (pump) being very loud! It was rubbing up against the cement side wall and burning hot! Explained why my electric bill sky rocked that month and lucky didn’t catch fire! Called them to replace pump because now it has mileage on it and to me is no good. They came back to replace it as the owner said they would then never did. Put it back in place, came upstairs and tried to say it’s replaced and all set. Little do they know I marked it with a marker to see if they were telling me the truth. I said no you didn’t and I want a replacement.. the guy walked out on me! I’ve called several times the receptionist was helpful but no one ever called. I used a different phone number to call again they answered and said sorry the owner retired, your pump is fine and hung up on me!!!!! Horrible ppl! Don’t use this place!! Shame on me for not reading reviews ahead of time!!! Spent 5000$ for this job, and I’m very unhappy!!!!
I had my mold and basement water problems solved very quickly with outstanding results. Mold is gone !!!!!! I have not had any water since than !!!!!!
Initially hired Mr. Home to stop leaks in my foundation. Then was informed about some other work needed and hired Mr. Home to do it all. I had the basement re-pointed, the back corner of the foundation was also “fixed” and chimneys were re-pointed. Everything was ok when they left. First rain, no leaking. But about 3 months in, I itch melting snow and rain, back corner of basement leaked just like it did before being repaired. And this is the primary reason I called in the first place! The solution was for them to dig down ONE FOOT on the outside of the corner of the house and apply plastic, replace dirt and replace the existing tar that was Jack-hammered up by them. They replaced the tar with cement. So now it’s half tar and half cement and has a new seam that also invites water into it.
I tried for months to get someone back to look at it. Bill came once and told me to “keep an eye on it”. Eventually, while working at my neighbors, someone other than Bill came by to look at it. He told me they needed to get me a sump pump in the cellar. Don’t need that!! I have a floor drain! Need the water to stop coming in the walls. I finally gave up and fixed it myself. Took many products, money and time. The problem was that they never patched the areas that were difficult to get to and that’s where it leaks! That part of the job was $1200… I’ll never get that back and I’ll never hire them again. I wish I had read reviews before I called. I now wonder if all that I really needed was a curtain drain to draw the water away from the foundation instead of towards it. And/or a gutter on that side of the house.
I trust people a little less every time things like this happen. But I can do lots of things by myself now. And will as long as I can.
If you know what you need and can communicate it to Bill, you might be safe. But if you’re trusting them to tell you what you need, don’t hire them. You’ll never get them to come back and fix it if it goes wrong. That’s maddening!! Such a colossal waste of time trying. Too aggravating.
The chimneys that were re-pointed had so much sediment and cement fragments and dust left in the chimney that vents the furnace that when I had my furnace repaired recently they had to remove a ton of debris to get it to vent properly (CO leak) First one I’ve ever had.
This job was done 2 years ago. I’m still dealing with the last of the leaking. Had to crawl under the oil tank and behind a tiny work bench (there was a huge hole in the foundation there). And most leaking came from the areas where the wall met the floor. The cement floor.
Basically, all of the places that water came in prior to the work being done still leaked after it was done. Only worse.
I did appreciate the receptionist. She was very patient and tried to help.
The photos are from the first time the leaking happened after repairs. It got consistently worse until it was like a stream running over the floor in several areas. Pooled in front of the oil tank, ran under washer and dryer,
I fixed most of it with mortar patch. Holes filled with ceramic pieces and mortar. Then patched.
Fun times!
