Midwest home exteriors did an excellent job on my roof. They did it in a very timely fashion. The guys were very professional. They were in and out no time Also everything was clean as if they weren’t even here. I would recommend them to people in the future who ever need roofing work. They were a total five out of five stars to me.

A Disappointing Experience with Midwest Home Exteriors

In April 2024, I hired Midwest Home Exteriors for an extensive exterior renovation: a new roof, siding, vinyl and block windows, gutters, soffits, fascia, a garage door, a garage passage door, and a screen door. I chose the company based on a co-worker's recommendation and my interaction with them at the NARI Milwaukee Home Improvement Show.

Despite their estimate being $2,000-$3,000 higher than competitors, I trusted it would lead to superior quality and a smooth process. Unfortunately, my confidence was misplaced. Initially promised for completion by September 2024, the project remains unfinished as of today. I urge others to carefully evaluate alternative contractors before hiring Midwest Home Exteriors.

Communication and Delays

After signing the contract in April, I heard little from the company until I initiated contact in August. Work began on August 28th with the roofing, subcontracted to A&A Exteriors, who performed well. However, their professionalism highlighted Midwest Home Exteriors' shortcomings in management.

Vinyl windows were installed in early September, but two were immediately defective - one screen was delaminating, and another had a hole. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue, it remains unaddressed months later.

Siding work was promised for the week of October 14th, but no one showed up, nor was I notified of delays. This lack of communication set the tone for the remainder of the project.

Poor Planning and Execution

Siding installation began on November 6th after materials were delivered without warning. The delivery driver expressed frustration over the lack of planning. The siding process itself was riddled with delays and absentee subcontractors.

When the work was declared "complete" on November 23rd, it was far from finished. Nail heads were left untouched without paint to match the siding, caulking was incomplete, and an electrical fixture was covered by siding, leaving live wires exposed in the garage.

After the siding contractors left, I picked up over 30 nails scattered around my property - a safety hazard and clear sign of carelessness. To make matters worse, one of the siding contractors smoked marijuana openly in front of my house before leaving, adding to the unprofessional conduct.

Lack of Quality Control

A glaring issue throughout the project was the absence of any visible quality control. Midwest Home Exteriors showed no indication of reviewing or addressing issues in the work performed by their subcontractors. Defects such as exposed live wires, incomplete caulking, loose flashing, and defective materials were ignored, creating safety risks and showcasing a troubling lack of oversight.

Gutters and Other Incomplete Work

The gutters, removed in August, weren't replaced until December 17th. This occurred without notice and wasn't completed per the contract, as one downspout was left connected.

Significant portions of the project remain incomplete, including block windows, the garage door, garage passage door, and screen door. The block windows, which had no dependencies, could have been completed long ago but remain untouched.

Final Thoughts

Midwest Home Exteriors failed to deliver on nearly every front - communication, planning, execution, and quality control. Their subcontractors, while capable, lacked proper oversight, and issues were left unresolved for months. The combination of safety hazards, unprofessional behavior, and unfinished work leaves me unable to recommend this company.

I hope the remaining defects will eventually be addressed, but until then, I encourage prospective clients to seek contractors with proven track records of communication, project management, and quality assurance.

Very honest and hardworking people work at this company. I wish I knew about them before getting partially scammed by another company that submitted a false claim to my insurance company causing it to get denied. The employees came to my house multiple times and did everything they could to make my claim go through, but I am still in the process of getting it approved, which is an insurance issue not their own. I am happy with their work whether or not my claim is approved after the hail storms we had locally. Very honest and trustworthy. Go with a locally owned company, not a company out of state trying to capitalize on our misfortunes, aka a "storm chaser". Thank you MHE for all your hard work.

Fantastic experience! The contractor did an amazing job on our roof and siding! everything looks perfect. They were professional, efficient, and left the place spotless. Highly recommend their services!

We hired MHE to do our roof, siding and gutters. They have been nearly impossible to get a hold of. They broke our doorbell when they were installing the siding and installed ineffective gutters that overflow when it rains. We have been trying to get them to address these issues for several months. They have completely ghosted/ ignored us. They either don't answer or tell us that they will forward the message and the owner will get back to us - which has not happened. They also took a long time to start to job once they agreed to the contract. I would not recommend this company.

Nothing but positives. We had extensive damage to siding and roof from hail storm. Midwest Home Exteriors was our choice to fix the damage. From an old shop teacher's perspective, the work performed was top shelf. Crews got our roof done in a single day. Entire house was sided and fascia replaced in good time. Crews were here early and worked late and even showed up in the very hot weather. Workmanship was excellent. Cleanup of area was done daily. Check done daily to locate and pickup nails. James the owner asked often how our daughter and new grandson were doing. We appreciated his personal interest in what was a difficult period for our family. I could not recommend a company more highly than Midwest Home Exteriors. Job well done. Showed us they are about more than slapping shingles and siding on a building and hightailing it out.

Awful experience.
They did my roof and gutters after the hail storm including a flat rubber roof. They never took completed photos or finished the insurance paperwork. So I already had issues with them.
2 years later, it started leaking. Since it's still under their warranty, I called to get it repaired. Called, emailed, called again. Nothing, no response.
Said screw it and got some other contractors to look at it. Turns out, the rubber roof was unfinished and done wrong. So unprofessional and disappointing. They are lucky I'm not bothering with BBB and getting someone else to fix up their mess.

I had some hail damage to my roof and gutters. With how saturated the market is, I had a hard time deciding which company to choose, and man am I glad I picked this one! Bryant came out promptly and helped me get it fully replaced. He truly went above and beyond to be there for all my questions (which were a lot), came to my home a bunch of times to make sure everything was exactly how i wanted it. I was so impressed with him and the final product. He made a stressful situation a lot less stressful, with beautiful results. I would love to work with them again in the future especially after this experience with him. HIGHLY recommend Bryant!!!

They lie about every step of the way. They will try to take shortcuts to save them money! Roofing was done immediately during summer. Siding took me complaining for and bugging them for months to get done! At the end of the day he(James the owner) wanted to quickly wrap things up for cheap, he almost killed my whole family! The contractors they sub contracted literally came and cut off my chimney where the carbon monoxide gets released and patched it shut! Before hiring these guys, think twice if you don’t want to deal with the headaches and it could just save your family’s lives!

We had our roof and gutters replaced in the summer. Bryant was so professional and great to work with. The process was easy and they helped us with the insurance claim due to storm damage. IN ALL HONESTY: I used this company at the recommendation of my realtor, whom I trust. I didn't compare pricing so I can't attest to that Time will tell when it come to the quality of the products they used and the quality of work performed. Like so many in our area, we just had our shingles and gutter covers replaced. Andrea and Joe Koutnik made the process so easy. The crew was wonderful and finished in one day. They cleaned everything so well, you could not tell they were here. I highly recommend MIdwest Home Exteriors.

After damage to our roof from wind we needed repair so we looked for companies that could handle that for us we looked up roof repairs ect and got a few listing we got quotes from all three Companies that came out but Midwest stood out the best Doug was very professional and knowledgeable he didn't make my wife and I feel pressured to make any decisions but was just as please to make new friends in us we were sold on that because he and James the owner stood by that! When it came time to do the job I gotten Covid and was out of work for 60days so we had to delay the project until the following spring but in the mean time Doug checked on me to just see how I was doing that really says alot about a person and individual that represents a Company we got the roof installed and we are the envy of the neighbors because the roof looks awesome they showed up on time and was done in one day no nails ect left behind 100% satisfied and recomend there services I promised you will not be disappointed....

When our roof started leaking into our daughter's room in March, we called several roofers including the one who installed the previous roof. Doug and Midwest were the only ones who promptly came out to inspect and give an estimate. As soon as the weather was warm enough in June to properly install the flat rubber part on top, Doug scheduled the install. His crew did the shingled part in one day, came back and did the rubber part a day or so later. Crew was very professional, worked safely, did good cleanup. Roof looks great!

Overall, the workmanship was done great. Chris Mealey our sales rep was professional and knowledgeable. he explained us very well the whole job to be done. They came on time and worked very hard on the removal and installation of the roof. They were respectful and professional. Kept their area clean and made sure all the old or broken pieces were picked up from the property. Made arrangements to come back to finish one part of the garage and once again, everything was done as promised

Excellent job. Doug was very knowledgeable and helpful. The crew was hard working and all seemed happy with their jobs. They got a complete tear off and new roof plus all clean up done in just one day.

The work was for a complete roof shingle replacement. Chris who came and did the estimate was very knowledgeable. When I decided to go with them, I was told that it would be 5 weeks before they could start. 5 weeks went by fast, and even though no one contacted me, I knew I could message Chris an he would respond, he did and told me who to contact and schedule the install. A day later Selena called me and she was super nice and helpful, she told me that the shingles were back ordered and that is why no one contacted me, but now that they were in they could drop them off. The company they order the shingles came a day or two later and just left them uncovered and in the middle of the front yard. Then the rain started, I called Selena and wanted to know if they could move the shingles to the back yard, she said she would contact them. They came the next day and wrapped them up and moved them to back yard. A few days had past and Selena called to say they would be there Friday to roof the house, I was going to be out of town and asked if they could come Monday she said that would be fine. Monday came and the crew was there at 7am, and began work, and they were done and cleaned up by 11:30ish. I couldn’t believe how fast they completed the job. Thank you so much now we don’t have to worry about the roof anymore. This rating is on the work that was done, even though I would have appreciated a bit more communication, I was satisfied.

I have given mid west a one star because of poor communication. I was told on July 1 it would take 3 weeks for them to get to my roof. Mid west has not called me once to update me on anything. Today is August 11. The only way there was any kind of communication it was on my part. When I did call I was told I would get a phone call back from the owner. That never happened, twice I called them and never got a phone call back. I had to call for an update My worry is now since it's so lack of communication I have a lifetime warranty how hard it's going be for communication with that If something go wrong. On Friday August 6th I got a phone call from the receptionist saying that my roof should be done in the next two weeks. I will keep you updated if that happens. My rating is not judging them by their work, it is rating them by their communication skills only. By the way the only reason I got a call back from the receptionist is because I asked her to talk to the owner and relay the message back to me. Again my roof has not yet been done and this is not a rating on their work just their communication skills. I will update you and send pictures when the work has been completed.

We needed a roof repaired When purchasing a new home. They were easy to work with super helpful and priced competitively. Showed up on time day of the job and everything was completed and cleaned up the same day. Very happy with the look and quality of our brand new roof!

The whole team at Midwest Home Exteriors is awesome. Had an ice dam over winter and contacted Doug at Midwest Home Improvements. They worked with me and my insurance to get job done. I actually ended up doing whole roof. Price was very competitive and the service was exceptional. They finished the entire roof and tear off was done in less than a day. Roof looks amazing and is covered by the best in the industry warranty from Owens Corning. If you need a roof, this is the place you want!

I had Midwest home exteriors replace all the windows in my house with ProVia windows. Their products are high quality, their installer Carl is amazing, he does everything as if it’s his own home. The installation, flashing, caulking, cleanup, etc, is 2nd to none. His assistant was excellent too, very nice hard working respectful young man. I also had them replace the roof at my in laws house. Same experience. Use Midwest home exteriors with confidence, they are Top notch!

Midwest Home Exteriors replaced my aging (and no longer covered by my homeowners' insurance) roof. They called a couple of days in advance to let me know when the workers would be there. Those workers showed up on time and were ready to rock! Roof looks beautiful now and should last for many years. Very pleased with the entire process.

If I could rate Midwest Exteriors with 5+ stars, I would. Ice dams on my roof were leaking into my kitchen just before we were going out of town. James had his team set up and ready to replace the roof while we were gone. Unfortunately, they found our chimney had damage and deterioration which halted the roofing repair. James was professional and communicative during the entire process. We had a few other companies come in and address those issues. The entire job was completed by the time we got back home. Everything went smoothly and looks fantastic. I am grateful we put our trust in James and his company. The job was done exceptionally well and at a lower cost than other quotes we had. Midwest Exteriors surpassed our expectations. These are the people you want on your roof!

In the middle of selling my mom's house, we were told the roof needed to be replaced. We knew it was going to be a big job since she has a steep pitch and 4 layers currently. I was referred to James Gregg from the realtor and I contacted him immediately. He called me back immediately and was more than happy to quote this. In the meantime I also called a few other roofers to quote the job. James was the first one to come to the job site and met my mom. He took the time with her and explained exactly what they would do, how the job would go, and that it would take approx. 1-1/2-2 days because of all the layers. He gave us a referral discount and the price came in pretty steep we thought, but how were we to know until others came out. After the 2 other quotes came in from other roofers, James was just slightly less than the other roofers, and the ONLY one to take the time to explain everything to my elderly mom, and then speak with me about what he just told her. The only issue we were very worried about was due to the cost, we didn't have the funds immediately to pay for it and James was more than willing to work with us to be paid out of closing funds. I contacted James 1 week later and asked him if we could sign a contract with him. He met with us 2 days later, and then the following week, he had his crew of 6-8 come out early, tear off the 4 layers, install 4 new vents, reflash the chimney, repair a few damaged boards and install the new roof within 1 days work. They did a superior job, and the roof looks great. The communication and dedication I received from James and his team at Midwest Home Exteriors LLC was better than expected and I highly recommend this business for future work for anyone!
