We have a large split level deck. We wanted to turn the larger section (that has an entrance into the house) into a 3 season porch. That meant tearing down a large pergola. We asked if they could build a new pergola on the other section of the deck after completing the 3 season porch. The whole process, from design to completion, was outstanding. The quality of the work was exceptional as was the communication. They will always be our first choice for any work needed on our home.

Recently, Merrell Home Improvement built new banisters for my front steps, a spacious elevated deck for the front of the house and a metal roof to go over the deck…and, in doing so, greatly boosted the curb appeal of my home in an older neighborhood. Ever since then, whenever someone comes to my house, they immediately ask Who did those banisters? Who built that wonderful deck? Several of these people are high profile business owners in the Clarksville community. After answering Merrell so many times, it was a no-brainer to call them when I wanted to replace my 4’ by 23’ walkway on the side of my house with an 8’ by 23’ foot deck…which turned out to be both visually impressive and rock solid. As before, Merrell did an amazing job, exceeding expectations on every level. Design, materials, execution and follow-up were all spot on. Going forward, Merrell will be my first and only call whenever I need structural work done on my home.

I have so many superlatives on my experience with Merrill, with the installation of a deck awning. I’ll start at the beginning. During the initial estimate I found Curtis to be a man of honor, which is hard to find these days. I’d strongly advise do your research on perspective vendors and have that candid conversation w/them regarding recent reviews good or bad. It’ll go along way in establishing a workable relationship and insuring a pleasurable experience is realized. Curtis listened to our wishes/concerns, then recommended a proposal, meeting our expectations. The next step took me aback, I mentioned having to deal with my HOA to approve construction of the deck awning. To my surprise, Merrill handles drafting the request for submission/approval, ridding me of that task. Also, what can I say about Tamera, she’s on her game. She kept the information flow smooth, efficient and kept us updated every step of the way. Finally, David and his team were professional and their workmanship was impeccable.

Merrell, did a complete Master Bathroom remodel for us and we are completely satisfied with their Professionalism and work ethic we recommend Merrell Home Improvement for any work. I know we will always call Mr Merrell first.

Highly recommend Merrell Home Improvement. Several years ago they installed windows in my home with a lifetime warranty. Recently a couple windows were needing some attention. I reached out to Merrell via Facebook. The lady guided me through a few simple steps like taking pictures of the windows and taking pictures of the serial numbers. When the windows came in, they called me and we set up an appointment. The installer came and swapped out the windows and that was it. I am greatful and thankful for their kindness, professionalism, and for making this process very easy.

I work in construction myself, and I know a good contractor when I see one. He is a straight shooter and highly experienced. You simply don’t make it in the business as long as he has without doing solid work.

Couldn’t be happier with the results. Screened in patio was completed in 3 days. Work crew was friendly and professional. The owner himself was here when the project began, again midway thru completion, and then for a final inspection. I heartily recommend the company to anyone looking to make home improvements in the future.

I would prefer to carve my own eyes out with a dull wooden spoon before I would use this company to do any job in my house again. Nothing they tell you is true, they never show up when they say they will, they don't communicate with their contractors, they lie, are hard to get in touch with after contract is signed, and try to squeeze more money out of you after contract is signed. In the end I am going to end up finishing repair work myself because they never could send someone to my house that knew what needed to be done. I've been waiting two weeks for someone to patch a hole and repaint the wall and ceiling that had to be repaired due to their poor plumbing job. 0/10 would not use again.

Update 7/28/25: Over a year after the initial review. After over a year of posting this review, I received a response to it from the "owner" which asked me to reach out so that they could address my concerns. So giving them the benefit of the doubt I reached out. First call I was told yes they wanted to talk but the person I needed to speak with was on the phone and would call me back, they never did. I called back the following week and was told "we hired a company to handle our reviews and the response you received was AI and not actually from us" and they were not willing to discuss. How this company manages to get worse over time is wild to me. They are spending money to try to protect their image but not doing anything to improve their quality or processes.

We had a great experience with Merrell Home Improvement installing a deck/patio cover for us. Our primary goal was that the cover looked like it was built with the house. It looks awesome and we are so happy for the shade on our deck now. I’d definitely recommend them for quality work! Thank you!

If you read all 1 star reviews and you use this company, we warned you..you're gonna get stiffed!!! Imagine starting a job thinking it would be fast. Nope. 7 months.. not only did it take 7 months for a kitchen and pantry to get done..but a lot of stuff had to be redone due to poor work. The worst part is the communication and tardiness. The office worker would tell you one thing, and get a different result. Very greedy company. They will overcharge you and change their contract to charge you more. If you still don't believe me, please read all the 1 star reviews. Ohh and if you cancel, you won't see most of your money..

Absolutely horrid, don't work with them. The people they contract are good but the company is horrid about management, pricing, timing, and keeping you in your spot in line. They constantly push back any job they have and they don't communicate at all with you or many of the companies they contract out. Never use them. It's been 6 months (even though they were supposed to start in 6 weeks) and they screw you over time and time again and try to get as much as they can for sub par materials. To save you time, energy, patience, and a peace of mind go with someone else. The worst contractors I've ever dealt with.

Terrible service. A bunch of nonresponsive, unhelpful hacks. I would avoid them at all costs. If they do something wrong they blame you and avoid you like the plague. If anything goes wrong you will have to take them to court to make it right. Totally not worth the endeavor. They falsely advertise, and do not standby their work.

I have used MHI pre pandemic with great results ( deck and windows). I then obtained their services to install walk-in shower. First, let me say that the quality of work they complete is really stellar.
There were so many delays trying to get the right tile ordered and poor communication that I did lose heart. The tilers did an exceptional job but left my water spigot on unbeknownst to me so the pipe burst and I had an $821 water bill.
However, now looking back with a beautiful walk-in shower, I’d rather have the delays/poor communication and have a beautiful result that timely scheduling and better communication with poor results. To be fair, MHI did entertain my aggravation and tried to make it right. Also, their worker, David, is just a one-of-a-kind guy with a can-do attitude and winning personality. He made the harrowing experience bearable.
So I am glad that I called MHI but they are welcome to compensate me for water bill and burst pipe. ???

I am very pleased with the quality of the deck that was built for our house. I am very pleased that they were able to fix am unexpected issue for a reasonable price. I was very pleased that they came out much sooner than originally anticipated. The team was really nice, worked fast, and did a great job.

The bad: I was told when i had the sales associate give me a quote that they would be able to fix the place where we would need siding (from downsizing my deck), but they never did come to fix it. I called a few times and some months later someone showed up to my house asking to see it. I had already fixed it myself by then. They didn't get rid of all the constructing debris, so I've had to take care of it myself as well. Lastly, the crew didn't shut my gate all the way when they left. My dogs escaped as a result and the police were called. Now i have a written warning for not controlling my animals.

My deck cost $17,500. It's a beautiful, well- built deck, but I can't say I've had a great experience with the company.

We hired this company for a kitchen remodel, and the only time they were ever on time, or showed professionalism, was day one to give us an estimate, and the very next day to collect their down pmt. Yes, you’re correct, Mr. Merrell, we did cancel the contract, due to lack of communication from you to us. If you had communicated occasionally with me how far out we were on your schedule, I would not have canceled, but multiple, no return phone calls is poor business in my opinion. If you recall, you promised to demo my kitchen 30 days prior to your company beginning our kitchen remodel…which never happened. Do you remember the phone call you made to me that you were coming out to do the demo, yet I never heard from you or spoke to you again until the day that I canceled, and that’s the truth. “Listen to your phone recordings”, as you say “Read your contract.” I’m all about good communication with the customer…I did not get that from you, and that is why I chose to cancel the contract, and why I would never do business with you again.

I hired Merrell for our deck and we are absolutely in love, everything about them we’re so professional! I love how they did my deck so quick!

An addition of a laundry room was completed. Only a 12x12 room. Took 5 months to complete within the first year roof was leaking. Took about 6 months to get them out here. Was told it was repaired, now have another leak and have been told by 3 roofing companies the roof was not done properly due to the level of the pitch not being high enough. Now we must have the entire roof ripped off including part of our main structure to repair. Do not use. Poor customer service.

All the negative reviews are true. RUN, don't walk away from this company. Mr. Merrrell and his staff should be in jail for the way they take advantage of people with their lack of ethical behavior. We signed a contract to remodel the kitchen and paid the deposit and that was the last time we were treated as a valued customer. After being lied to numerous times, multiple No Shows, and no effort to contact us or return calls for several months we decided to cancel this contract. Mr. Merrell continued to lie and threaten us with the signed contact and how he was entitled to keep 33% for doing nothing but coming to the house twice for a total of 1 hour. Eventually he agreed to cancel, but Mr. Merrell chose to keep $1800 of our money for doing nothing. Should have pursued legal action but life teaches us lessons. Enjoy your $1800 Mr. Merrell, I hope this review saves many people from your poor business practices and lack of quality work. To your response, those are the most expensive salesmen I have had the opportunity to work with, your a crook.

I had a big project, detached garage and a patio extension. It was a very difficult job to do but the final product was awesome! They’ve been in business a long time and Curtis answered the phone very responsive. -Chad McKinney

Merrell was the lowest quote I received out of three different companies in the Clarksville area for the installment of my patio cover with ceiling fans. There sales associate (Paul) was very knowledgeable and provided me some great recommendations with style, color and trim. The office customer service representative notified me by phone every step of the process, from ordering, parts arrival, and installation date and time. Finally after the work was completed Mr. Merrell, the owner came by to personally ensure that the work was done to my satisfaction. I am very please with my patio cover and would definitely recommend Merrell Home Improvement.

We had 15 triple pane tilt in windows replaced. We spent a lot of money. We were promised a lifetime warranty. One of the top sashes leaked gas and moisture got in.resulting in permanent dark spots between the glassThe company said sorry, the window manufacturer is out of business, nothing we can do.

We purchased and installed replacement windows for our home with a lifetime guarantee. Four of the window seals have since broken. We have been calling trying to get replacement sashes since September 2021 (it is now July 2022) and have the phone records to show. We’re always told we’ll get a call back. One of their service techs (Tony) even came to look at them on December 7, 2021, but again never got any replacement or answers on a follow-up. We have all the phone records and voicemails. It is ridiculous. Short of either showing up in person to the business and/or filing, we’ve done everything we can to get a response. MHI has gone out of their way to ignore and hope we just go away. We’ve been extremely courteous and patient. Looks like we’re not left with many options that don’t include a legal path.

Scheduled to have a kitchen/ bath remodel at the beginning of June. Barry comes out and takes all the measurements and says I’ll be in touch by email with a quote in a few days. After a week we call the office and are told someone will call us back before end of day. Now it’s almost July and I call the office and it’s the same thing over again. If you didn’t want my business all you had to say was where not currently taking new business. Don’t string people along. I’ll take my money/ business elsewhere.

From day one it was a train wreck. I'm simply going to say I had a $20K breezy room installed which ended up being closer to $27K after they started. Room was not finished or constructed how we agreed to. Faucet of house is visible, concrete not sealed, wood not sealed, and it's not level, which causes all the windows and the cheap door to stick as well.

Word of warning!! If you or someone you know is thinking about using Merrill Home Improvement for any remodeling…Don’t!!! I contracted with them to remodel master bath, which included removing small shower and large garden tub, build linen closet where shower was and build huge walk-in shower and replace large window above where tub was. I picked out all my materials. Closet was perfect. They tiled new shower and built bench in shower and build new window. This was in January of this year. In July, I noticed cracks in grout around top and side of bench. Then grout started cracking and separating from tile under the new window. I paid a lot of money for this work to be done. I started calling them mid July when I noticed this. I’ve been calling every 2 weeks since for someone to come fix it. They sent guy out in September to take pictures of the areas affected. I’ve still been calling. Today is November 19, and I still haven’t heard anything from Merrill…except excuses!!! This makes me madder than I can express. From the time that their sales rep, Barry, came to our home to generate a quote to the completion of our screen room they have been nothing but professional. They kept us informed of certain delays because of logistics problems and provided realistic expectations. The crew that came out to do the work was very professional and detailed. Last but not least, their quote was very competitive. I would highly recommend Merrell Home Improvement.

This company is a scam! First of all, to get a quote, he was an hour late. Ok, we will overlook that as my home is in the new area of a development and for "some", hard to find.. What I can't overlook is that he wanted to quote me $3000 for a 5 x 10 screen room that literally only fits 2 chairs! Nothing fancy... screen. Oh wait, he wanted to put in 2 steps for a 6 inch drop off the patio.. He then proceeded to talk to me as if I am just an ignorant female when I advised I had been quoted $1100 for the same project which was offering more than what he was. He kept saying how I wouldn't even get a door for that price... wrong! I have done a lot of home improvements on two homes and this quote literally made my mouth drop. On the way out the door, he rudely stated buyer beware of these "mom and pop"
businesses". Did he really say that to me!! Rude, rude, rude!! I am getting my work done with another construction company but even if I had found a "mom and pop" business as he so rudely put it... I would trust them more than I trusted him. You guys make up your own minds but me... I will NEVER call them for anything again!

Contracted bathroom remodel with them and paid half the agreed upon amount to them. They did not contact me to schedule the work (nor contact me AT ALL) for 6 months after deposit was paid. Showed up to do the work and contractors were efficient and did the job in a timely fashion. Supervisor showed up about 2 days after work was completed (before we were allowed to test out the shower system, due to the tile needing to fully set, we were told) and pressured us to sign the "approve all work" contract and get the remainder of the balance owed. There were a multitude of issues (tile work was crooked, shower pan cracked and popped loudly when we stepped on it, closet wasnt level and door not straight, holes in the grout, shower pan and tile walls sealed together with non-flexible tile grout, etc) and it took over a year of calling and emailing them and AT LEAST 5 visits from 5 different sub-contractors to fix the issues. Every time someone new came out to try and fix the issues, they would mess something else up in the process. I spent 6 months contacting their customer service manager and she was rude about getting someone out to fix the issues and after about 3 months of her not responding to my emails, i found out that she had left the company and no one took over with the issues that she was responsible for fixing. The last sub-contractor that came out and barely/half shot repaired the remainder of the issues, told me that the owner of Merrell would not come out to my house and review the issues and quality of the work with me because "he is afraid of confrontation with customers over inferior work and chooses to avoid customers AT ALL COSTS". Im still not happy with the quality of work done and wish I had never contracted Merrell to do the work.

We had the pleasure of having Joe come out and do work on our house. He is very punctual, professional and polite. He did outstanding work and we hope if we go with this company again that we have the pleasure of Joe doing the work. As for the office goes, some of the people don't know their butt from a hole in the ground and it's always a mess when calling and trying to get info and having all materials delivered to job on time was a bit of a hassle but all in all Joe made everything smooth sailing. I just recently found out Joe quite working here which is very saddening because he did excellent work and was punctual about it. Sad companies don't want to pay these men what they are worth or what they originally agreed to paying them. I will be finding joe and having more work done because I know he will take care of what needs to be done in a prompt professional manner

I got a Patio Cover and ceiling fan installed by Merrell Home Improvement. Even delaying by Covid-19, finally they started, and got it done in less than three days. It came out much more beautiful than I expected. They did a great job. Before they left they cleaned up all trash. I will use them again. I highly recommend Merrell Home Improvement.

Very professional staff. Always nice and willing to go out of the way to help and accommodate. They did great work and kept us very informed every step of the way since we live out of town. Provided us with picture updates which I loved. We will definitely be using them again to take care of our interior remodeling.

I recently had Merrell Home Improvement install a screen room on my home. From the first appointment they were very professional, punctual and kept me informed of the process. Despite a few delays with materials because of covid, things went smoothly. I would definitely recommend them and use them for future projects.

Was hit by March tornadoes and it tore roof off deck, I called another reputable company that did it originally they came out did measurement and I never heard from them, called Merrill home improvement they came out gave me a quote, but then COVID came and there was a delay but it's done and I'm happy now. Kim and Tony you're the best.

When my wife and I decided to screen in our back porch we contacted a few local home improvement companies to look at our project. One of the “big” home improvement companies came out and didn’t even acknowledge what we had in mind and started trying to shove his elaborate ideas at us. When we explained what we wanted he left and never heard back. That’s when we called Merrell Home improvement. The representative came out and listened to our plans, offers a few suggestions and had samples and pictures so we could make an informed decision. My wife and I felt comfortable with our decision to let Merrell do our project and even had leaf guards installed on our gutters. We had some lack of communication from the office on scheduling and a couple of miscues from the installation crew but they eventually got everything remedied. Overall we’re very pleased with the final project and enjoy it literally every day. Only downside was the lack of communication and a few hiccups along the way. We’d feel comfortable recommending them in the future.

We ordered a screen room, but Due to Covid 19 our install date happened later then anticipated but that was to be expected with everything going on. The day of installation we ran into a few issues that had to do with building and codes rules. We thought our dream of having a screened room were over as quickly as it got started. The owners came out and spoke with my husband and I. We spent over an hour talking about moving the room to the backyard instead of the front yard. They included two doors, a gate on the other side of our property and replacing the concrete walkway that got damaged in the front where the room was originally planned to go. We quickly became friends with the owner. We ended up helping him with information about our heart doctor and the VA. The workers that came to build our room were friendly, helpful and courteous! They came everyday and put their all into completing the job and doing it perfectly and in a timely matter! We are loving our screened room!! We have had a family picnic, and a yardzee game with our grandkids along with enjoying rainy days and seeing a few rainbows all without getting eaten by the bugs!!

They damaged my new stove putting in the exhaust fan. The crew installed the backsplash tile wrong had to tear it out and damaged the new counter and lied about it. They didn't finish painting even though the owner promised he would. I had to coordinate for the counter tops because Merrell forgot to. Terrible experience. Oh, they have no idea how to do plumbing. I had to fix the drain pipes myself.

This is the worst group of people I have ever worked with. The woman that runs the office is rude, unprofessional, and doesn't have any customer service. We never got told the same information that the contracted builders were telling us and were told we were not home or able to be reached to sign the final paper work which was 100% a lie. Do not use them, but do use the guys that built the deck. Good hard workers.

We hired them last year to fix a screen room that was done by another person. They came out and quoted us told us what they were going to do which was to replace all the wood used and new screen. When they came out and started it they didn’t. We had to have the owner come out and tell him this isn’t what was agreed upon in the contract. Finally we came to a resolution and it was done to our liking. Now we had some damage done to the roof of it due to a storm and when we looked at the manufacturers website of how the roof is to be installed we found out it was installed improperly and Merrell refuses to fix it. If it was done correctly the first time it wouldn’t have needed to be fixed. We have been calling them since January and had someone come out but we kept getting the run around. Really disappointed in how they handle problems like this. I would not recommend using them!

The quality of the handyman’s work is great! I would rate it a 5. Randy who bid the work was very personable. I felt like I knew him forever. Competitive rates. The only opportunity I can see is the communication in the office to the customer. More proactive communication would make this a 5. Other than that, I would work with them again.

Merrell Home Improvement is a joke and a scam. They prey on the elderly, as my grandparents have learned the hard way. This company charged them over $32K for a sunroom tin can, which is nothing like the contract states or the pictures looked.. but that's not even the worst part. The worst part is that nothing fits, the door doesn't even close, and the work is so terrible that water gushes in and floods the subflooring. So bad that my grandparents can't even put a real floor in.

Merrell doesn't care, they won't fix it, and they won't reduce the price, because they feel they can strong arm old people who they think don't know any better. It's disgusting. And their salesman Mark is a terrible and rude person who yelled at my mother on the phone. What a fiasco. They were paid half upfront (back in July!), and it took months and months before we heard from them again. Now this. A terrible job, and a rip-off.

Whatever you do, don't use Merrell Home Improvement, you'll buy something for three times what it's worth, and then spend even more having it torn up, fixed, and redone.

We had $15,300 worth of work done on our foundation through Merrell Home Improvement. The drainage line is too close to our house and needs to be extended out further. When I call them to let them know, I was informed they no longer have a foundation division, but the lady said she would send someone out to check it no one never showed up. I have called three times and was told three times that they will warranty the pumps which they have not come out and serviced, and that they would come out and extend the drain which they never did. So beware of them. I wish I had pictures but with the job under the house in our crawl space I can’t see the job that was done. All of the work was done a year ago and no one has come out to service our 2 pumps. They are suppose to come out every year to check and clean any silt build up. So I repeat, BEWARE OF THEM. Facebook has a lot of bad reviews.

I've spent 3 weeks trying to get an appointment for a follow up check on my floor jacks. Kim keeps saying she will call me back with an appointment. I asked for a manager 2x. They always say he's not available.

The owner did NOT schedule a service for me. He never even called.
