In applying for an apartment I needed to have a co-signer to be eligible. I contacted my co-signer who was out of the country at the time to send pay stubs. He wasn’t able to for a couple days. On Wednesday, MDI properties sent me an email saying if they didn’t get the paperwork by the end of the week, they would have to move forward with other applications. Wednesday night I sent in the paper work. All other payments had been made prior, it was just the pay stubs from my co-signer that I was waiting for. Thursday morning MDI replies saying that they moved forward with other applications that they received the night before ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT when I submitted the pay stubs.

I confronted him about his dishonesty and he said that he had misspoken and that it was company policy to go with first come first serve, even though he had sent me and email saying that they would wait. I hate the double standard. Needless to say we won’t be applying for any other apartments through MDI. Only leaving two stars because they’re giving back all the deposit money and application fees which I was not expecting.

Don’t rent from them. I cleaned my apartment up and down even have pros come in and clean. The only thing that needed to be done after I moved out was a retouch of paint prolly on all or most walls after living there three years and a sink in the kitchen. And they came up with all different kinds of things to keep my whole deposit and said I own them more!!!!

My daughter and I had been looking for apartments to rent close to campus. By the time we contacted Sharon Williams to look at 1837 College Heights, we were very stressed out. Other property managers were horrible with communication about showing the units, answering questions and being untruthful regarding open units. Sharon was so professional and timely with her communication. Sharon showed my daughter the unit, and that same evening, we were contacted about the rental process. Within 1 day we are all set to go. Sharon has worked with us to make the move in date seamless and as a parent, I am excited for my daughter to move in. Excellent experience!

Do not ever rent from Crestwood or any property owned by McCullough Development. Their contracts are predatory and their employees will purposefully obfuscate information from you to extract more money from you. This by far the worst property management experience I've ever had and I highly recommend you live anywhere else if you are considering dealing with these scam artists

I moved in and there wasn't blinds on a window, how am I supposed know they are supposed to be there, if they were never there to begin with! Then at checkout out I being charged for them because I was supposed catch THEIR mistake of not notating the window didn't have blinds when they did turnover maintenance! Absolutely ridiculous and typical slumlords! The owners of that building should be ashamed of this property management!

I made an appointment to walk through an apartment at 2:00 PM. I waited outside the building I was told to meet at for 30 minutes and nobody showed up. I tried calling the leasing office and nobody picked up. If this is how you treat potential renters who are prepared to fork over thousands, I’d hate to see how you treat those who have already signed a lease.

My child lived at one of the MDI properties in Manhattan, KS, on Moro St. While some of the communication with residents could be improved (using their resident portal rather than notes stuck to the door for example), overall it was a very good experience and the apartment unit itself was great. Upper level management was extremely responsive and helpful when we had to contact them regarding an issue with a bill from the internet provider. Would definitely rent from this company again!

I toured a place managed by this company in Lawrence, and while I ended up signing a lease for another property, working with them was easy! I called to set up a tour and was able to view it that same day! Wren gave me a tour and was so flexible and informative, she really went above and beyond.

I wish there was an option to put 0 stars. Communication with them is practically non-existent. They will do everything in their power to keep your deposit. They charged me moving out fees, did not reach out to me once about them, even after I called and emailed them multiple times regarding my deposit: then out of nowhere months later I got a call from a debt collector regarding these move out charges. I would recommend no one to rent here. May be the worst management I have ever dealt with.

If I could give 0 stars I would. They will nickel and dime you for your whole deposit. Keep your utilities in your name even if you move out early, even though they advise you to do otherwise. Initially I was supposed to get $100 out of the $400 deposit. Not even three days later they called to tell me they “found” an $80 water charge. I’m now stuck with an $80 water charge taken out of my deposit WHILE we weren’t even living in the property. Wasn’t even half of that the whole time we lived in the property, our average was about $40. Now received a $24 return on my deposit. Absolutely ridiculous.

I don't ever leave reviews because my wife does. This has to take the cake for me which I'm very surprised..... Military!!!! Please be careful with the Strasser Village Apartment I will let you know now since Heather and Lauren will not inform you even with Lauren being prior Military..... Please ensure you submit your military termination orders 30 days!!!! Prior the start of the pay period... Listen they do not care if you got your orders 2-3 weeks before you need to PCS or deploy. You will still get charge that full 30 days even if you have to wait for your orders from HQDA if you submit your orders after the pay period. You have to pray that someone moves in quick within that 30 day period and they will not inform you at all. I had to call corporate myself and speak with Megan, Lauran supervisor to get it cleared up thank you.. In the future this is a vital information military folks need. Military move is already stressful and difficult no need to add on to it just be transparent. Lastly be careful with Lauran, she has left sensitive information out in the open... My wife and I walk our dogs around the apartment and not once but twice I saw her monitors open with residents personal information displayed on her screen over night. Just requesting some proper training and at least some security measures to ensure the entire strasser residents can feel just a little bit more happy and safe.

Being a first time renter you hear a lot of horror stories of different landlords, but I can say they are GREAT!

I’ve lived at the Wareham for 3 years now and have never had any issues. Maintenance is always quick to answer any problems i have in my apartment and they 100% leave you alone if you aren’t causing any issues. I have enjoyed renting through them.

I was in a studio but ended up needing a bigger space… they were really helpful in letting me choose a new apartment with many options in the Wareham and made the switch to a new unit super easy.

I almost forgot to sign my lease for this next year but they sent a friendly reminder letting me know which i really appreciated as I wasn’t planning on moving out any time soon!

If i ever plan on changing to a new space or location again, I will stick with McCullough Development!

lived in Lawrence ks for awhile at village square and this new person they hired there is prolly the worst person I have met in 10 years I Will update if any thing changes.UPDATE!!! Thank you thank you they have listened to these amazing families. And they have ridden the guy who caused so much depression and pain mentally. The new guy is so nice and respectful actually treated us like a human unlike the other guy who treated us like garbage. I am changing to 4 stars. I recommend living here because they actually listened to there customers. Been living in same apartment for 6 years and there not that bad. To summarize I would recommend them to my friends so happy today.

I had a terrible experience the first time. Told myself I wouldn’t rent from them again but was fooled by a cheaper price on the outskirts of town. I immediately regret the decision because now they are, once again, trying to squeeze more money out of us because of paperwork that they had already verified, checked, and accepted TWICE beforehand. Now they wanna charge us hundreds of dollars extra even though they already told us we were good.

NEVER rent from McCullough unless you like spending extra money and are okay with your landlord backpedaling every month or so in order to jip you out of more money.

If I could got 0 stars I would

I have lived in a McCullough Development owned property for 3 years and I had a pretty good experience. There were occasional times when I became frustrated with management (not replacing the broken washing machine for four months), but there was rarely a problem that you wouldn't find with other management companies. Rent was very reasonable, and the location of my apartment (1417-1419 Leavenworth) was immaculate.

Worst place to rent from since new management!! My sister got an $150 charge because my parents brought their 2 yr old dog up...yes simply for bringing the dog in the apartment. If you wanna waste your time and not get the best of Aggieville then yeah come here. If you are a real Manhattan then you won’t.

We rented a townhome in Lawrence, KS called StoneCrest. Not only was our townhome trashed when we moved in but when we left after they jacked up the rent price. We did not hear back from Stone Crest/VillageSquare/McCullough Development for months about our security deposit refund. It took me making several phone calls for several months to find out they charged us for extra cleaning services. I would not recommend these townhomes to my worst enemy.

Management is absolutely awful & do not fulfill the tasks they say they will at all. In the heat of summer FOR A BUSINESS, it takes 6 weeks to get a new AC, and even then- it doesn’t work great. Will not return phone calls or emails. Do not complete tasks they say they will. Poor sad company with awful leaders. “New paint job” consists of it taking months to complete with paint sitting around.

Edit 09/29: This company continues to be frustrating to work with. I have been hounding them to fix a window and only through involving risk management (which you should call if you are a resident and experiencing the same frustration) have they done the bare minimum.

The price and location of my apartment is good, but trying to get MDI to actually make meaningful repairs to the apartment is like pulling teeth. Anything that they can technically leave broken, they will, even if it is falling apart and no longer functions the way that it should. I have had to get Risk Reduction involved in the process to get them to actually take my work requests seriously. If you live at an MDI property and have maintenance that they refuse to do, call Risk Reduction for an inspection. There may be some things that even they say don’t have to be fixed (again because of a technicality) but if Risk Reduction tells them they have to repair something, they are legally bound to. Except, don’t always expect the work done to be professional, again as long as it is “technically” fixed, it’s fine.

I have had too many problems to count with this property management of 1941 College Heights Road. They entered my apartment with no warning and my things were moved around. I don't need to be concerned of who could possibly enter my apartment freely. After I had a conversation with management they made sure to let me know every time someone would be in my apartment when it wasn't their scheduled time for them to be ( like they should!!!!! Can't imagine the number of people they have done this to and it's 100% illegal). I had a flooding problem and they were horrible about fixing the issues. They will find mold along the floor boards of the kitchen and stains all over the carpet because they were reluctant to fix the issue. I was on my hands and knees scrubbing my carpet of water stains so that mold wouldn't be created. All they did was put a fan out to dry the dirty water that had entered my apartment (and my electric bill that month was $130 when it is normally $30-$40) the manager wouldn't get a carpet cleaner for the carpets to get clean and made me feel like I was stupid for sending in pictures of the water stains saying he can't see anything wrong. I was also accused of someone living in my apartment over winter break. I let them know to please go in my apartment and let me know if someone was in there because I was curious as well! (make sure you have the right person before you falsely accuse) The carpet was never cleaned before I moved in and they still charged me the $100 for carpet cleaning. The carpet was disgusting when I cleaned it the water came up black. They also charged me $75 for some paint touch up! Will not explain to me why either. They mailed me my $75 refund with no check. Just some paper work. These are just a few instances. I stayed living here because I was almost never there besides when I absolutely have to be. I don't have any good things to say about this place or management. I do not recommend.

I--i don't even know where to start....

This has easily been my WORST renting experience since I've lived in Manhattan (5 years.) I knew it would be a difficult year when THREE days before my boyfriend and I moved into our unit. When returning some of the paperwork they informed me of an issue regarding my dog, which had never before been mentioned even though we applied months in advance. My dog was on their "breed restriction" list,They continued to argue with me saying that they weren't able to get a hold of the person who signed the papers (my therapist.) It was only until I was able to contact their district manager with the help of my mother. The district manager was able to approve my dog within minutes. That was the first issue.

Throughout the lease term they have tried to charge us multiple time for random fees for things like the amount of dog dropping in our yard( which is a completely unfenced and open to the public, and where multiple people from the neighborhood walk their dogs) and smoking in our house (which was untrue.) On each occasion, I would call the main office to questions the fines. The first person to answer the phone never knew ANYTHING, I always had to be transfer to someone else or someone higher up. When I asked about the smoking charge, Melissa's answer was very vague. She stated that someone on the property had mentioned smelling marijuana and per our lease agreement we are not to smoke in or around our residence. I then asked her, if that was true, then why wasn't our neighbor fined, as he has evidence(cigarette butts) all around his property and some crossed the line into our yard/porch. She then tried to argue with me that she "disagreed with the lease agreement in that residents should be allowed to smoke outside of their home." I told her that she is entitled to her opinion. however, if she is going to hold my boyfriend and I to the standards of the lease with the mere assumption that we were smoking in our apartment, that she must also fine our neighbors for smoking in or AROUND our residence since that is a term in the leasing agreement, which you previously mentioned. After I asked her if our neighbors were receiving the same fine and she realized that I very thoroughly understood the lease, her attitude quickly changed. After a few clicks she was able to remove the charge completely.
They have tried to charge us late fees due to updates in their website not processing our payments correctly. Thankfully I had screenshot to prove our multiple attempts to pay our rents.

Basically, we felt as though we had been discriminated against for being a young, black couple in a predominantly older white neighborhood. If I have one regret it's ever signing a lease with this company.

DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Have lived in Manhattan for 4.5 years, living for a new landlord every year. MDI was easily the best place that I have rented from in my time here in MHK. Never had a problem, they promptly dealt with maintenance issues, the few that I had. Everyone that I dealt with was kind and professional.

DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. I read the reviews and didn't think anything bad would happen to me, and I was wrong.

I needed a 6 month lease because I was graduating early and was told I could have one up until the day of my showing when that magically changed and "they no longer allow 6 month leases." It was our last option and we were told repeatedly that due to location we should easily be able to find a subleaser and that the apartments we were in have "always been 100% occupied." So we signed the lease. We even paid $500 extra to have them advertise and take our names off the lease when a subleaser moves in. But that $500 was worthless considering their definition of "advertising" is posting it on the bottom of the second page of their listings and an old zillow ad. We made our own zillow ad and got more hits and have done all the advertising on craigslist and facebook ourselves. It's now February and the "historically 100% occupied" apartment is still empty even though we've been advertising for 5 months. The have no "break the lease" clause or anything that we could do, we're stuck paying rent until July. They're in it for the money and to screw students over.

Worst renting experience. The hinges on one of our doors were UPSIDE DOWN. they didn’t clear our parking lot or sidewalk when it snowed. Our stove is super messed up. Our apartment always smells like straight up pot. And the heaters are either freezing or super hot the hallways and around the building are always dirty. They showed us a really nice clean apartment but the one we moved into the paint didn’t match there were lots of little things wrong and cracks in the walls and paint that didn’t match.

Can I give it -100 stars? Never rent! They made me pay a huge amount for an equipment failure that WAS THEIRS and threatened me with the proposition of lawyers getting involved. Rent here if you want your life to be miserable. Also, their apartments were engineered by Barbie dolls. The landlords are pathetic, rude and shameless.

The worse apartment company I have dealt with, avoid! Overcharge rent, come inside your apartment whenever they feel like it, make you feel as you are unwelcomed, when you have a few months left on your lease they will show your apartment several times a week to people... the worse experience!

Andie Metcalf at Meadow Ridge, WMD, IA, is professional, courteous, and very service-orientated. While we decided to rent elsewhere-I just can't give up my in-flat washer & dryer!-I'd recommend her highly if you need a mid-range apartment in West Des Moines, IA!!!

McCullough Development Corporation is the worst crooked and unethical company to deal with and I absolutely want everyone to be aware to not do any business with this organization or their subsidiary in Topeka, Kansas called Arbor Valley Senior Homes. My parents who are 80 years old had an interest in renting a 3 bedroom senior home from Arbor Valley in 2016. The company required a $260 security deposit for a senior home that had not been built yet and my parents did not sign any contract. My parents filled out an application, but never received any communication that the application was approved or denied. To date in late February 2017, the 3 bedroom senior home for which Arbor Valley demanded an up front security deposit of $260 is still not built and my father recently passed away from pancreatic cancer. Due to being on a fixed income, my mother is not able to afford to live there now and the company will not refund the $260 security deposit. We have spoken to Emily at Arbor Valley and also Lori at McCullough Development Corporation and have been treated very poorly and unprofessionally. The company is crooked and has no empathy for senior citizens. I am filing a complaint with the BBB and filing a lawsuit against Arbor Valley and McCullough Development Corporation. In memory of my father, it is very important that senior citizens are aware of the unethical actions of this company and not taken advantage of in the future.

They are money hungry for sure. Apparently it takes 5+ months to fix three doors. They are very uncooperative and will not take responsibility for anything. Aggie Village is not great whatsoever. It is definitely not worth $805/mo. I wouldn't even pay $400/mo for this place. It is terrible and I cannot wait to not live here anymore. Awful. Awful. Awful.

Don't be a disabled veteran with a sevice dog here, they treat you very poorly and they don't give a damn about you, they more-so try to push you out of their apartments because of their no pet policy.

This is what I've seen, $300.00 in fines because I had my service animal living with me, while I had to wait for the VA doctors to get a letter written up. And if anyone knows the VA, things take a while. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Yeah it's in their policy, but he was at the time a documented service animal, and i just needed the letter..kind of harsh don't you think?

What is there to say about this place and company that can't be said about a evil landlord character from a movie? Excessively overpriced for a rather garbage unit. The company will do whatever it can to get as much money as they possibly can from you and treat you poorly while doing so. If my only other option were to be roommates with a meth cooker I would take the breaking bad life hands down. The apartment was nice and clean but not worth that price. I have family in nicer apartments in way more expensive towns that pay less rent than I did. Staff was rude and condescending. When you go to break your lease for a deployment look-out because they'll excercise their right to take another months rent from you. Which literally no other company does. Granted it's within their rights, but it's a lot like not tipping a waitress is in your rights too. You just don't do it unless you are trying to nickel and dime people. Which MDI is. Oh did I mention that I sat in the office with the agent when I first moved in and set-up my auto pay and she did not say one single word about the "end-date system" they have. What that amounted to is me getting charged a late fee on rent because my auto pay shut-off without so much as an email notification or a phone call. When I asked the company about it they threatened me if I didn't pay it. I would not recommend this place or company unless all the dumpsters or cardboard boxes in town are full.

Don't even apply. I have never had so much trouble getting into a rental in my life. Twice they spent at least a month "reviewing my application" to the point where I had 1-6 days to find a new place at the point I learned they would not rent to me for a ridiculous reason I should have known about on day 1. I can't believe the terrible level of customer service for potential tenants and it has been an ABSOLUTE nightmare trying to find a place to live in this town.

EDIT: On top of everything else, the $200 earnest money they required to "hold the apartment" has still not been refunded to me after 2 and a half weeks of waiting and getting the run around yet again. The corporate office could not care less about the people they do business with and the individual offices frequently give the "I'm waiting on Corporate" excuse. This company is a parasite and a joke.

I have rented with MDI for about 3 years now. They have a very knowledgeable and friendly staff. My experience has been 100% positive. In my personal experience they have been generous with deposit refunds which I know is a problem with other leasing companies. The maintenance staff is great. If I ever have a problem there are there to fix it ASAP. I have been extremely happy with the service I have received in the years I have rented with MDI.

I rented from MDI for five years. I was in the same apartment the entire time and they were great. They always responded promptly when I had a maintenance issue. When I moved out, the only thing they took out of my deposit was my carpet cleaning. They give you a complete list of everything that's wrong with the apartment when you move and time to correct if you find something else. My experience was all around good. I paid my rent on time. I was quiet. I didn't complain a lot. I was a great tenant and they were a great landlord in return. I had a dozen or so maintenance issues while I lived there and none of them were ever not fixed and always dealt with promptly. I was also never charged any fees for these issues.
