They gave us a competitive price for our roof. Very good communication on product options and job time frame. Ben even did a little paint touch up on the trim even though it wasn't part of the roof.

Paul did a great job, being fast and thorough with his installation. He also took time to explain the technical features of the heat cables he had installed for us. No problems. Clean and courteous.

We had Kuhl’s Contracting install self-regulating heat cable in our gutters.
Initially, Brooke came to see the potential project, identify/clarify our needs, and give an estimate. She was very easy to talk to, really understood what I was saying, and provided thoughtful, expert advice on how we would best complete this project.
Today, Paul came to do the install. Like Brooke, Paul was also very easy to talk to, very friendly, very interested in making sure that his understanding of how the project was to be completed was also my understanding of how the project was to be completed. After the install, he walked around the house with me to show me the completed work and explained how the cable was laid, explained how I would operate the system, modified any outlets and plug-ins to our mutual satisfaction. My husband and I are VERY impressed with the communication and quality of work from Paul. Thank you Brooke and Paul!

Paul installed out Ice Dam Prevention System and did a fabulous job. He was professional, efficient, kind, and knowledgable. In addition, he took the time to blow out all of our gutters.

We contracted with Kuhl for installation of heated roof and gutter cables. From the initial visit to inspect the roof and prepare a proposal to completion of the project, we were completely satisfied. The written proposal we received was promptly delivered consistent with our initial discussions. The work was scheduled to fit with our plans, and easily rescheduled when our travel plans changed. The installation was done by Paul and Ricardo. They arrived on time, explained what they would be doing and proceeded in a very professional manner to complete the job. While they were working, the owner (Steve) stopped by to introduce himself and take stock of the work. Paul kept me informed during the installation of the roof cables. He explained each of the components and answered any questions that I may have had. He was friendly and did a thorough and professional job.

Paul installed some HeatTape Pro on our roof and gutters and underground drain. It was drizzling and not the greatest conditions, but that didn't stop him. We had a great time working with Kuhl on the replacement of our garage siding, and especially with Tavo, who performed all of the physical labor. He was timely and professional, and clearly was very knowledgeable on all of the skills required. When it was all said and done, we were left with beautiful cedar wood 4" lap siding on the detached garage that was tailored to match the siding style of our pre-1900 Victorian house. Tavo even inspected the remainder of the garage and let us know of the areas where maintenance work may be needed in the near future. Thank you Tavo and Kuhl!

I contracted Kuhl's to remove a chimney from my older, St. Paul home. Gustavo (Tavo) performed the work, and I am incredibly pleased with his workmanship and professionalism, and the result of the job. I feel that the demolition was performed with the absolute minimum disruption to the surrounding finish of my house, he took great care with the plastic barriers to keep the interior of my house clean, and removed the chimney in a timely manner. Overall, I am very pleased with the quality of the work. Super friendly guy.

Ben and Greg did an inspection of our cedar shake roof that Kuhl installed 6 years ago. They cleaned out hard to get areas in the valleys where leaves had congregated. They sealed the shakes and trimmed some vines at the top of the brick chimney near the flues!. All done safely and efficiently!!

I appreciate that Kuhl services and maintains the home improvements which we have purchased from them. Tavo takes extra care when cleaning the roof and gutters in the autumn. After installation, Kuhl is at the ready for any problems which may arise. The crew has high quality skills and always very courteous, responsive and respectful. We recently used Kuhl for cedar roof restoration. The process involved 3 steps - cleaning, shingle replacement & protective coating application. From the initial quote through out the entire process i have been extremely impressed with their professionalism, timeliness and workmanship. As you can imagine, the cleaning process of a cedar roof creates lots of mess, which they cleaned up as if they were never there. The scheduling and communication with the office was not great but Tavo was an absolute craftsman who did excellent work. Great ideas, efficiency and work ethic the whole time he was here.

Ben and Greg just finished repairing our wood shingled rood and removing tons of moss. They did an awesome job. Roof looks like new and they cleaned our stucco and windows to boot! Highly recommend.

Another great job by the Kuhl Team! Shortly after having my roof restored last Spring we had an August hail storm. My insurance Company sent their adjuster to assess the damage and submitted an estimate, but also encouraged me to have my contractor submit their own estimate. Kuhl's Team prepared a very specific and detailed estimate, and working closely with the Company resulted in about a 25% increase in the settlement. Materials delivered Monday and the crew worked from 7 to 7 Tuesday and Wednesday finishing noon Thursday. Ben was supervisor for the project and was terrific. The Crew was fun to have around and worked perfectly together as a team; 4 teams of 2, and the 9th took care of logistics. It never occurred to me that putting on a new roof would reach a high quotient of satisfaction...but this is different; it is a work of Art.

We are the sixth home on our block to have our Cedar shake roof renewed by Kuh'sl over the past few years, and they all look great. Ben and Greg do excellent work and are very personable. Brook handles the scheduling and does a great job considering delays caused by weather or jobs that just take longer than anticipated. Last fall Ben also replaced our roof heating cable (extension cord quality previously installed by a well known home services company) with commercial grade cable which worked perfectly. Kuhl's has a waiting list, so best to get in the que, but you will have the best.

Tried to get a quote from Kuhl's from Sept. of 2019 and was told they were too busy unless we wanted an entire new roof. This is after trying to get a hold of them for weeks. We needed repairs due to squirrel damage and their website specifically advertises for that type of damage. Fast forward to Feb. of 2020, we tried calling again. After 12 days finally got a hold of someone to learn that they do not repair animal damage and don't know of anyone who does. Due to the height of our roof, we just can't hire anyone off the street or do the work ourselves. They should not advertise for something they don't do.

I recently hired Kuhl contracting to power wash my 17-year old cedar shake roof and also do some masonry work/repair on my chimney, and I could not be happier with the results! I like that Kuhl’s method for cleaning the roof did not involve a bunch of harsh chemicals. My cedar shakes had turned very dark over time, and had moss and lichen growing in various places, so my expectations were not super-high about how good it could look again, but I have to say that I was blown away with the results. The cedar looked absolutely clean and even went back to its natural cedar color (not a washed out, pale color). I would rate this service 10/10. The chimney had some crumbling bricks replaced, and a new concrete cap added, and now it looks new again as well. Steve is extremely knowledgeable in both of these areas, and as soon as I had him out for an estimate, I had full confidence that Kuhl was the right choice.

I had Kuhl’s Contracting out to power wash my Cedar Shake Roof this week Monday & Tuesday, and the two man crew did a fantastic Job! Ben and Greg were just Great to work with! I would recommend them to all that I know.

Highly recommend!! We’re absolutely thrilled with the work Kuhl’s did on our roof. The whole team was really professional, on time, friendly, and the roof looks impeccable. They went above and beyond and we’ll definitely use them in the future.

3/28/2019: The Office Manager emails Steve and I to say that they can get me on the schedule, but they don't actually have a crew that can connect the 3 ducts in my attic to outside vents.

3/26/2019: Eric sends additional followup email regarding rescheduling no-showed appointment. Steve responds that he's on spring break in Florida, and to contact him when he returns in April.

3/19/2019: Eric sends another followup email to Steve and his contractor regarding reschedule appointment they no-showed. No response ever received.

2/20/2019: Steve's contact responds: "We are still going strong and looking like no slow down anytime soon with the snow and temperature changes. I will keep you posted" As of 3/31/2019, still no response.

2/19/2019: I followed up with Steve's specific contact Kuhl Contracting on rescheduling.

2/14/2019: Steve Kuhl contacted me about my experience, and is working with me to reschedule. Steve provides a specific contractor to work with, as Steve is overseas.

Last week I scheduled an appointment with them to come at 9:00 this morning and do some minor bathroom ventilation work. At 11:30 this morning, I called them to ask when the person will be arriving. It turns out they totally forgot about me, and might be able to call me back as early as next week to reschedule.

Good thing I didn't go into the office today. >_>

They are excellent. Brook, who took my phone call, followed through on everything she said that she would do. The two men who came over, Ben and Paul, are very pleasant people (like Brook). They arrived precisely at the time they said they would arrive. They know MUCH about roofs and exactly what they were doing. I have no hesitation recommending Kuhl, Ben, Paul and Brook and will use them again if any more work on my roof is needed.

Excellent service! I called this morning for service to remove ice blocking my furnace vent on my roof in -15 degree weather. Ben and Paul were there almost immediately- not only did they remove the ice, they shoveled my roof, deck and walkway.......... above and beyond !!! Kuhl finished up doing a cedar roof restoration. They did an amazing job. It almost looks as good as it was when it was new (that was 15 years ago). What was a pleasant surprise was how they left everything spotless. After pressure washing, there was crud everywhere. By the time they left it was again, spotless.
Workers were conscientious and polite.

To Whom It May Concern:

I have had the opportunity to work with Kuhl Contracting on multiple occasions over the past 20 years. Steve Kuhl is truly the Cedar Shake Guru. I first met him on an insurance claim in 1998 when he confirmed to my satisfaction that I did not have any damage after a recent hail storm. He was the only estimator willing to actually go up on my steep pitch shake roof for a complete examination. Afterward, he took the time to educate me on what I needed to know and do to protect my cedar shake roofing into the future. Fortunately, I followed his advice.

Every few years Steve has come back for an inspection that has helped me maintain my cedar and get the maximum life out of my roof. Other houses in my neighborhood have not done the maintenance Steve recommended and they are in need of a full replacement at this time. Their roofs are deteriorating and leaking. According to a recent inspection, I anticipate at least 8 more years before having to consider replacing my roof. The time and cost for maintenance with Kuhl has been well worth it. I believe any other contractor would have pushed for the opportunity to replace my very expensive roof at the earliest opportunity instead of teaching me how to take care of it and get the maximum lifetime possible out of these materials. I found Steve to be honest and sincere in his advice and willingness to help.

In the process, Kuhl’s Contracting has done a variety of small repairs and other work in addition to maintenance. That includes replacing cracked roof vents and fixing a leaky garage heater exhaust vent that had been improperly installed by the original contractor. Kuhl installed a copper chimney cap in 2011 that is like a piece of artwork. Beautiful from the beginning, it now has a nice patina that complements both the house and roof. On additional projects I have found over these years that Kuhl’s pricing is very reasonable and they are great at providing customer service. I am able to communicate with his office staff and get prompt responses. I have Steve Kuhl’s direct email and cell phone if I need to talk with the boss. He typically answers and returns his own calls. A year ago I called him with a request that I anticipated paying for. Instead, he sent a crew to power wash an area of stucco that was stained and did not charge for it. I’ve never seen another contractor do actual work for free.

I highly recommend Steve Kuhl, Kuhl’s Contracting, and Kuhl Design & Build for any house remodeling and or roofing project. They have been dependable and done great work for me over these past 20 years.

The first part of our job just got completed (waiting on stone work) and I couldn't be more pleased. Leo "Tavo" Lopez did exacting and thorough metal work on our trim, was easy to work with and a very nice guy!

We have a thirty year old home in need of some repairs to its cedar siding. Kuhl Contracting sent Tavo to accomplish what was needed. Tavo proved to be a very respectful and extremely pleasant workman. He showed up in cold and windy weather, worked until dark, reappeared the next morning early, and finished the repairs. He was self-sufficient, polite and friendly. He cleaned up the area before leaving. I would not hesitate to have Tavo work on our house again.

Tavo from Kuhl's contracting worked on my cedar shake roof to remove leaves and debris before winter. He did an excellent job, safely and efficiently removing a lot of material that will help extend the life of the roof. I highly recommend!

The siding on our chimney was in very bad shape and needed replace. Kuhl called the day before to schedule an appointment. Tavo showed up promptly and had all the cedar siding, metal flashing and tools to complete the job. It was apparent Tavo was very experienced and is obviously a craftsman as his work was awesome. Due to a weather forecast, he wanted to complete the job in one day and used a headlamp to complete the work after dark. I checked on the progress of the job several times and he was very outgoing and kept me informed of his work. I am extremely pleased with the end result and I highly recommend Kuhl and Tavo for any roofing or siding jobs you have.

We purchased a house with a cedar roof and 0 knowledge of cedar roofs. We didn’t know the condition of the roof or how to maintain it. The first bid we got said the roof was junk (never actually going on the roof) and he could replace it for $32,000! I found Kuhl from a google search and they came out, actually went on the roof, and wrote a detailed, professional report/quote. He walked us through what he saw and recommended taking down a small tree that damaging a corner of the roof. He, also, explained to us that we had very high quality shingles and they could last another 30 years with proper care. His quote included replacement of some shingles, power washing and treatment for a fraction of the price of replacing it. Note: the first company’s replacement bid was quoted with lower quality shingles than what was on the roof already!

We moved forward with the quote from Kuhl and worked with Brook to schedule everything. She was amazing! There were weather delays, but she let me know right away. She also helped me understand and schedule work to be done after our new siding was installed but before it was painted.. then helped to reschedule when those contractors took longer than expected. The men that came out covered our deck, furniture and landscaping so it would not be wrecked by debris from the power washing. I was extremely impressed with how well they cleaned up after (including spraying down windows).

We've had multiple contractors at our house this past year and the contractors that communicate and show attention to detail, like Kuhl, took so much stress off us as homeowners. Thank you Kuhl team! We will be calling you for other projects in the future!
