We needed a structural engineer to inspect the foundation of a home that we are purchasing and were recommended to contact Kemp. We are so glad that we did. Greg provided first class service. He was thorough and took the time to explain each step that he was taking, the purpose behind it, the potential results and what each could mean, and finally the actual results. He also took the time to educate us on some of the basic indicators of good and deficient or damaged home foundations. He was very personable and is great at making complex information simple enough for novices to understand. He also provided the inspection report almost immediately. I had a structural inspection of my home two weeks ago. Greg was AMAZING.

I am about to start decorating and I noticed cracks. I decided to get an evaluation because I didn't want to "paint over problems" and I also didn't want to pay someone to fix problems that didn't exist.

Greg not only reassured me that my home was fine; he also took the time to REALLY explain what structural damage is and how it would present if it were happening. I not only felt secure about the current state of my house, but I also learned what to look out for in the future (as I hope to live here for a while.) On top of that, he did notice a few things that I should probably get repaired to ensure they don't become damaging! Awesome!

We are new home owners, and one day we noticed some cracks in the ceilings, a few walls, as well as outside in the exterior of our brick home. As first time homeowners, we became very worried that these were signs of significant issues with the foundation of our newly purchased home. I decided to reach out to an independent structural engineer to assess our property before talking to a foundation contractor, and boy am I glad that I did. Kemp Home Inspections responded to my inquiry for a structural inspection promptly, and we had our home inspected two days later. During the inspection with Greg, he listened attentively to the issues I pointed out to him, and clearly explained to a lay person what may be the cause of some of the damage. He allayed my worst fears that there were potential major foundation issues with our home and explained that some of the cracks were likely due to some mild settlement and drywall craftsmanship. Because of Greg and Kemp Home Inspections, I am able to sleep much better at night knowing the issues with our home are addressable without massively expensive repairs a contractor may have tried to sell us. Before you think you may need big repairs to your home, I highly, sooo highhhhly recommend getting an inspection from an independent source with no financially vested interest. I would hire Kemp Home Inspection again in a heartbeat.

On a side note, Greg is a very friendly and well traveled guy. We had a good time talking about our travels all over Europe, the types of tomatoes we have in our gardens, and how to take care of squash/pumpkins. Very nice, down to Earth, and personable guy!

Greg arrived and very quickly confirmed that we had chosen the right guy! He listened carefully to our concerns, asked meaningful questions to determine the full scope of the situation, and ensured we were on the same page before proceeding with the inspection. Fortunately, it wasn't nearly as serious as we thought it might be. And with that in mind, he asked if we still wanted to have the written engineering report we had requested or if we were satisfied with his verbal assessment, in which case he would refund the fee for the write up. Who does that any more?! We stayed the course on the report and had it via email that same evening.

We hired Greg Kemp before purchasing an older (part is 1850-ish) farm house on land in Frederick County, MD.  He agreed to come on short notice on a holiday weekend because time limits were tight.  We received cost estimates in advance, signed a thorough contract, and were very happy that the inspection would be finished timely. Our agreement was for an inspection report, a termite inspection, a more thorough roof inspection, and a structural/engineering report.  He was one of very few people who had the engineering qualifications we were looking for, since there was an old stone foundation we particularly wanted examined.
Mr. Kemp arrived a bit early and spent more than four hours, even including a barn in the process.  Due to Covid procedures, we were not allowed to accompany him inside the house or basement, but he did call us in individually to point out some important issues.  He communicated with us briefly during the inspections, but spent more time at the end telling us some of his findings.  We received  all reports via email by the end of the following day, including recommendations based on Condition of many separate parts of the house interior and exterior, with pictures, well organized and very useful for first making our decision to purchase and then prioritizing future maintenance and repairs needed.

If you are in a dispute or in trouble, look else where. The owner, Greg Kemp, isn’t the one that’s going to help you out. But nonetheless it’s his company, he can do whatever he pleases!

Our just shy of 100 year old historic house was under contract, the buyer had a home inspection from hell. This guy did a thorough inspection of my foundation and even though he did not have to look at the entire house he asked too. Volunteered a mile long list of personal valuable opinions and how to handle specific items as I'm redoing a Project 1900 old house. I heard lots of BS all week everyone with a different stories. This guy stay over came on the fly to help me out as he already have a full schedule , not only was on time and did what was required he also blew the competition away . and stay to talk about the entire project and gave me Invaluable insight. knew things that only years of experiences and been associated with quality and knowledgeable people over his career apparently, but like a good chef this man love his job and it permeate to everyone when he talks about it . I recommend such a person and I'm very difficult to please but when I'm faced with the obvious there is no arguing , Greg is someone you want to meet and talk about any concern or project you are working on. for me I just made a new connection with someone I will use for year to come.

Quick response and scheduled an inspection within two days of calling. The inspector was very professional, friendly, and explained everything she was doing and why. For our small condo (1,200 sq/ft) it took over 2 hours and was extremely thorough which was what exactly what we were looking for, since this is our first time purchasing. We were first time home buyers who didn't know much about a home inspection. We only knew that we wanted to have a complete and thorough inspection so we would know what we’re getting into. The home we purchased was a brick Cape Cod, in good condition, built in 1950, and one that had minimal updates over the years (so we expected to find some things).

After reading several online reviews, we opted to use Kemp Home Inspection (and specifically Greg) over other companies (like the one that our realtor had coordinated with) purely because of their glowing online reviews.

I can gladly attest that Kemp Home Inspections are worth every penny. Greg was responsive to all of my email inquiries before and after inspecting the home. During the home visit, Greg walked me through each area of concern, which he also outlined in the home report provided afterwards (which I should add is detailed and easy to understand, complete with photographs).

One thing I’d like to mention is that we were hesitant to add-in a mold test, due to the cost. However, once Greg was at the property and noticed spots in the basement which indicated mold growth, we opted to complete a mold test. Though we didn’t want to spend extra money, we were happy to pay for it after having an honest discussion with Greg onsite. Of all the home inspection companies, I selected Kemp due to their having licensed engineers. The bar for doing a home inspection is lower than that but when making a home purchase I didn't want to leave anything to chance. Kemp was thorough, took his time, and explained things to us in detail. He advised us on which extra services to purchase and were pleased with the selection. I would recommend his company to anyone.

The inspector named Heather. On her inspection report she did not specifically identify the problems and no pictures about the specific problems.For example: in window section, she noted that there were several failed seals. This is a real estate purchase transaction and it is involve the negotiation about the repairs/replacement. What she did just put the buyer and seller into an unnecessary argument about some items. DO NOT USE this company for your real estate transactions.

Greg was great to work with. I knew the property had some issues and opted to get a structural inspection along with the home inspection. Greg provided a very detailed report about the issues with the house. I am a former contractor but still wanted a second set of eyes. I felt that Greg had a great knowledge of home inspections and structural issues. I was very happy with the report. I would use Greg again in an instant.

We found Greg through Yelp and decided to hire him because of the good reviews and the fact he has an engineering degree. He was very thorough and knowledgeable. He saw a slight bowing of the basement foundation wall, which would have been a huge problem if not repaired soon enough. The house he inspected (that we are looking to buy) was almost 50 years old, so we knew there were going to be some issues. It was great to have someone with his engineering background to let us know what is safe and what needs repairing. He was friendly and had a great sense of humor. He might be more expensive than some other inspectors, but when you compare the importance of the inspection (cost of the house, the safety, and the future expenses of repair), I gladly chose to pay extra to hire him. I am completely satisfied with his work and highly recommend him to others.
