JB West did a great job replacing my roof... I chose JB West for a specific produce with which they work. The foreman, Frank, was on site early and the last to leave - and did a complete walk through upon completion, encouraging me to call if there are any issues. They also completed a thorough clean-up.

JB west has been amazing. The entire team from Matt my initial contact to determine roof damage to the install crew for accommodating our schedule for installation and Frank the fireman on the job everyone was wonderful. I want to give a special shout out to Matt and Frank for doing everything they could to make sure everything went smoothly and following up on a couple of very minor post installation issues. Everything on the exterior of our home from the roof on down was upgraded by JB West. Every interaction, across every department, was handled with knowledge, courtesy, and professionalism. One person stood out though: Charlie Hopper. He’s a true Pro; on site from start to finish, answering every question and making himself available until the last detail was done. Employees are a company’s greatest asset, and Charlie exemplifies the kind of team member who brings trust, excellence, and pride to the brand. Give this guy a raise!

Jared and his crew were great- efficient, clean, and the end result looks great. We are happy we chose JB west for our new roof.

I'd give them a 4.95 stars if I could. While nobody is perfect, these people were pretty close.
The job was done perfectly. I have no complaints about the quality. They cleaned up well after themselves, and I wasn't even present when the job was being done.
My only tiny hiccup was that I put down half for the deposit, and it was nearly two weeks before they contacted me again to set up a date for the job. I understand that it was after a major storm that left many with damages, but after a week, a simple text or phonecall saying "Hey, we haven't forgotten about you" would have been nice.
Again, other than that, I was very happy with the service. I would not hesitate to suggest them, just be patient.

Wish I could give less than 1 Star. What a horrific experience with this company. Cannot speak for the quality of work because I am no expert in roofing. But I’m certain if they can not communicate and clean up properly, It’ll just be a matter of time before everything is leaking. Just hope to God it’s better than their communication skills However I can tell you that from a customer service perspective and the lines of communication with this company never again. I am so glad I only had them start with one small portion. I now know that next month when I do my house roof, I will be going elsewhere.
They do not communicate with you.
They give you absolutely no indication when they’re going to be there. Until you ask repeatedly and then they tell you a time and then two days in a row they no-show that said time. And then they show up and leave within 15 minutes with no explanation as to why or if they are coming back.
The amount of debris that they left is incredible
They left so many nails and screws in my driveway. I have a collection of 21 rusted nails and large screws from my driveway. My dog stepped on one and cut her paw
Like I said, I’m glad I started with only a tiny portion of a shed and did not have them do my entire house roof.

On the day of our new roof installation the shingles were not laying flat. I was told it would take time for the shingles to lay flat. In a month the shingles started buckle. It took over 2 years for J&B West to take off the entire new roof and install another new roof. I would never recommend J&B West.

For me, communication is key in business. And JB West excelled in this category. From start to finish I was informed of every little detail of my roofing process. My new roof was completed in a very timely matter and I do not have an easy roofline. I’ve never experienced harder workers. They never took a break until the evening.
Months later, I encountered a leak inside my home and I thought it was a roof issue. Chris came out and assessed the problem assuring me he did not think it was a roof issue. He gave me some advice to proceed forward.
The next day Caprice called me to check on my situation. Now that’s customer service!

From Savannah and the friendly office staff, to working with Drew Ummel who I can’t say enough good things about, to everyone on my hard-working roofing team who hit the ground running from the minute they arrived, until my roof was finished. My property was well protected and their clean up was perfect. In all honesty, after my experiences with others, JB West Roofing did a beautiful job, and restored my faith and trust in contractors.

It turns out, J&B roofing is THE BEST! Last year, after discovering hail damage, in late November, J&B came and re-roofed our home on Lake Michigan. Unfortunately,.icy cold weather & crazy strong wind storms prevented the shingles from adhering. Within the week we had severe flapping shingles & many detached shingles found around the house. After contacting them, they immediately promised to take care and protect my home over the following winter months! Today, June 12th, they returned. That roof was completely torn off and a new roof put on. They gave me their word & lived up to every bit of it! Great Company. A+

There was a knock at my door and when I answered it there was a man named Matt Harrell standing there. He started telling me that I needed a new roof because I was missing some shingles and he represented JB West Roofing a company that had been in Michigan City for a long time and he didn't want any damage to come to my house. I told him that I was aware of the missing shingles as I had just picked them up from my yard and put them in a pile.
This made me nervous to have someone just stop by like that and I told him that that was okay and I was going to have my brother go up on the roof with me to see how bad it was. He gave me his card and told me to call him if I decided to use his company. I told my brother about the whole incident and that I didn't trust anyone that just came to my door like that.
My brother came over and we went up on the roof to discover that yes indeed there was damage to the roof besides the missing shingles. Matt came by to see if he could at least tarp where the shingles were missing at no cost. After some back and forth, I agreed. Matt was very nice and professional and said that if I agreed, he would come back when my insurance adjuster was here. I agreed because after talking to Matt several times I decided to trust him.
Matt worked very hard with his managers Justin and Alex to come up with a plan that would get me a new roof for the money allocated by my insurance company. And I mean they worked hard at it! Matt came by with a contract that suited me just fine and I signed it. He was honest and did just what he said he would do.
The team came over with Emerson (I didn't get his last name) and Matt Cannon and they and their team did a very professional job. I was in the house and could hear how hard and quickly they worked. They gave me a new roof and Sean replaced the gutter covers as well. AND they stayed within the dollar amount allocated by my insurance company. Just like Matt Harrell had promised. HONESTY. They had covered the entire area close to my house with tarps and cleaned up everything before they left. Matt Harrell came by to make sure i was satisfied with the job and believe me I am!!
I would recommend JB West to anyone that has value in Trust, Honesty and Professionalism.

My residence had gutter damage due to a severe storm in March 2025. JB West was chosen to repair my gutter and I couldn't be more pleased with the service that I received. It was done professionally, quickly, and the repair performed by Shawn (and his associate) was exceptional! I highly recommend JB West.

Had a roof replacement done in May 2025. The project couldn't have run any smoother than it did. Howard was prompt for the initial estimate and explained the job in detail. Emerson and his crew showed up on time, were very efficient and paid attention to detail. Emerson was communicating during the entire process and answered all questions and concerns. Highly recommended! Very pleased with JB West! From the initial process of scheduling an estimate, to the final closing call, JB West made my roof replacement smooth and easy. Professionalism and customer focus were on point. Estimator Dave Vandermeer, Roofing Department Manager Chris Pumroy and Production Administrator Michelle Dingman ensured the entire process was worry free and completed to my expectations.

Extremely overpriced quote. The guy on site to quote me was rude and smoking at my house. Quoted me $518 to replace two pieces of siding. When I asked him how much a piece of siding was he came up with excuses about needing to order extra. I called the supplier it was 12$ a piece. So even if he got four pieces, that is $470 in labor. I ended up doing the repair myself in about an hour. Get multiple quotes if you are going to use this company.

Little by little, my wife and I have been improving our first home and when it came time for a new roof and gutters JB West came through. What an amazing job, with professional and polite crews. I could not recommend them enough from beginning to end, the sales pitch left me with options instead of feeling like I would miss out if I didn’t sign the paperwork that day. Their prices were more than competitive for the quality of work they promised, and then delivered.

I had a good experience with this company for my roof replacement. Howard was a great communicator and always responded right away to my calls and emails. Michelle in the office was very helpful and informative with scheduling and payments. The men who replaced the roof did a great job. One screen got nicked and they sent someone out right away to replace it. Easy process!

Just had our new roof put on today by JP West. It looks great, we are very happy with the job. Frank and his crew worked very hard and long today. They cleaned up everything and helped move patio stuff back. Will post a picture when JP West installs the new gutters and downspouts. Frank and his great team did our roof and they were fast, friendly and polite all while doing a thorough job on our roof. Frank communicated well before, during and after the installation. We had a fantastic experience with JB West from start to finish. Eric, our project manager, maintained great communication throughout and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. One thing that really stood out was how conscious the team was about cleanup. As with any major project, there were a few small things left behind, but considering the scope of the work, we were genuinely impressed with how tidy everything was — we couldn’t be happier.

Buyers Remorse
I honestly feel foolish for falling for a sales pitch that ultimately prioritized closing a deal over ensuring quality and transparency. Additionally over the past few months, we’ve identified several concerns about the quality of workmanship from December 2024:

1. Debris and Nails Left Behind: The crew left behind a significant amount of debris, including roofing nails, which we initially cleaned up ourselves. I reported this to Customer Service, and while a response was given that a crew would be sent out, the timing made it irrelevant — the job had already been done by us. To this day, we are still finding nails around our yard, driveway, and near the drain spouts. This poses a serious safety risk to our young child, pets, and vehicles.
2. Damage to Siding: We also noticed a crack and puncture hole in the siding, apparently made to force a fit during installation. This is visually unattractive and located right at the front of our home.
3. Sales Pressure: While we appreciated the help with insurance, we felt pressured into moving forward quickly. Before we could consider the financial implications, our insurance was already contacted on our behalf. This rushed decision left us with a higher deductible and a significant monthly payment we were not adequately prepared for.

Some parts of the roof appear to be done well and look great from certain angles. I can only hope the areas we can’t see were handled with the same level of care to avoid future issues such as leaks or structural damage. I REALLY hate having to give a bad review, but after considerable thought this was a huge purchase to let go unnoticed. I will say everyone was very polite that we met with.

They’re were great to work with. Drew Ummel was my main contact. When my main insurance company showed up to process the claim, their roof inspector didn’t show, Drew went up on my steep roof and took pictures for them and he was very knowledgeable. He’s a roofing Rock Star and comes highly recommended.

We had a 5 star experience with Matt and this crew at JB West. They completed our roof in one day. They were so courteous. They moved all our patio furniture and then replaced them at the end of the job. Matt answered our concerns about scratches on the skylight. He will follow up with us. The whole experience was seamless. Well worth it. Adding more about Boon and his siding crew. They were efficient and polite. Had the job done within a week. Boon was excellent with communication. They also did a wonderful job of cleanup, moved the patio furniture and gazebo back into place. Again, well worth it.

Jb west just installed new roof, gutter screens & skylites. They got here at 6:30 am in morning & finished at 6:30 pm. Crew of 6 worked continuously, were personable & left nothing behind when they left. Could not be more satisfied. Jared..Great crew leader!

I was highly recommended to use JB west from a main supplier who has been in the roofing industry for years. My neighbor just had their home done and I witnessed the crew workmanship and was impressed. The staff in the office and in the field with Kyle being the supervisor kept me current with all of the details. The job was completed from 6:30am to 3;30pm with my ranch home. JB West did a great job! Our new James Hardie siding looks fantastic! The entire team is professional, knowledgeable, and extremely communicative. They kept us aware of every stage of the project from start to finish and answered all our questions in an extremely timely manner. Their communication is above and beyond any contractor I have used in the past. JB runs a tight ship and only hires the best - I cannot recommend them highly enough!

JB West has been an outstanding company to work with. We unfortunately had to work through the insurance claim process, but the JB West Guys were on our team the entire time. We had the pleasure of working with a handful of gentlemen (Kyle, Patrick, Eric, Charlie, Jared, and crew). I was the main contact for this project, but I have zero construction background and experience. Each of them took the time to answer all of my questions in depth, making sure that I understood each step of the process, even when they were more than likely common sense questions. We had a few expected hiccups along the way, but Eric and Charlie were always a text or phone call away and
helped us work through them from beginning to end as well. On top of the phenomenal customer service, my two young boys were extremely interested in the construction process, and the crew welcomed their assistance in the project (handing them tools, helping clean up materials, etc.). We couldn’t be more pleased with the before and after of our project.

I know Matt has been instrumental in the golf instruction at Blackthorn’s golf academy in South Bend so I was grateful that he was close by when we needed to evaluate the roof and get measurements. It made it easy to coordinate since we are close. He came back to double check things prior to the job starting. Many of our neighbors have used Matt as well so he has become well known in our neighborhood.

Had an amazing experience with this company and our rep Matt Harrell! On a Sunday afternoon Matt was across the street I introduced myself and asked him to look at our roof. He was very happy to do it and accommodating. When he was on the roof he said there was damage that I was completely unaware of. He took care of everything.
including estimating Insurance and the workers. with the product he got us exactly what we wanted
and it looks amazing. He said it would take a day and that is exactly what it took to do the job done, He worked with us to get it done in warmer weather. And even though it was on a Sunday that I met him we asked if they would look at our neighbors roof as well Jim and Carlene Shepherd and he was more than willing to take the time to look at theirs as well. when he completed that one I asked him if he would also look at our neighbor Mike Moose‘s house which he was willing to do as well. Both of them were extremely happy that he was doing it And JB has also completed Mike Mussa’s house. I am 63 years old have a hard time getting around so if it wouldn’t have been for Matt none of this would have been accomplished. Much thanks to JBWest and Matt Harrell!!! And also thanks to Chris who helped us schedule the work.

I like to say that Matt Harold's the rep that came to my house and did a inspection on my roof told me from bottom to top and top to bottom what was going on with my roof gave me a summary of an estimate cost argue with the insurance companies back and forth until he got the job done 100%. On a steep pitch roof, job done in one day, including replacing a skylight and a couple of sheets of plywood. Foreman explained where there had been issues and why. Cleanup was thorough. A tear off of old roof can be quite messy. Earlier the salesman explained the different shingle manufacturer options and gave us a long list of homes they had done to show their work and the different available color choices.

I would like to personally thank Paul and Tyler for helping load wood in to my trailer at Menards for no reason other than being great humans while stuck in a line of contractors. Thanks again guys!

Had my roof redone by JD west. The job went Quick, and professional. I later had to call the company again due to a leak afterwards and they sent Frank out to address my concerns. He knew exactly what to do and also while he was on the roof he took my Christmas wreaths down at my request since I’m scared of heights! Wonderful company and employees going the extra mile just because. P.s. Leak was because of bad windows not their work. Highly recommend.

Only pro through this process was the foreman jason. He was amazing through all of this an his crew. The communication from this company is non existent.
We had alot of different projects done through this company. (Roof, siding, gutter, entryway as well as refraining of a sliding door.) Sadly our property still isn't cleaned up, we have massive damage to flower beds, sidewalks an over all landscaping. That we were told basically your sol not our problem. We had security signs destroyed, issues with crews actually showing up when scheduled, as well as called the office to find out what was going on an all in which I was told you don't need to call here anymore at all. All while being fully under contract an still are under contract.
When the entryway was redo they messed up our front door to where it hardly works at all now an was like new before this.
Also, been trying to speak to the owner with no luck with that as they stated he is never around.

But I Neglected to say it all started with Matt Harrell. From the start he was very professional and personal. Professionally he He did a great job assessing the damage. And then and even better job of getting me the results. He worked hand in hand with the adjuster And I was extremely happy about Quickly he got results for me. Even after the adjuster missed our scheduled appointment and reschedule for that same day later towards the evening he made it. He was able to get my claim resolved in less than 72 hours from when he submitted it on a "Sunday". He stayed in contact with me throughout the entire process including the installation. He wasn't just a "salesman"he is someone who you can count on. I ran a small business for many years my coworkers represented who we were. Matt Harrell does a great job representing JB WEST. We appreciate that JB West price matched another contractor bid for us! They did a great job on installing our new gutters and down spouts. From start to finish working with them was a great experience! Highly recommend!

Disrespectful!!! Yep, they’re still at it! They lied about putting up a “barn”, LIED about starting at 8 a.m. As if it wasn’t bad enough, all summer long this company starting their trucks, rolling in and out with semis and polluting the air with their filthy dirt, covering my property…so that going outside was not an option…all starting a 5 in the morning till midnight. Now I get to hear them hammering away at 6 in the morning. One of the owners once told me they respect their neighbors and never start their trucks before 8 a.m. Very not true!! This company has, obviously, has ZERO respect for anyone but their own agenda. I’ll be checking with county building ordinances very soon.

Jared and his crew completed the project and were great, they communicated effectively and completed the project in a timely manner. Matt was my main point of contact and made the process very easy, his communication and customer service was fantastic and he was great to work with.

J&B West installed new gutters on two homes for me. They did an amazing job - their quote was more than competitive, they showed up as scheduled to quote the work, communication to set up the work was seamless, and end product was top notch. I can't speak for J&B's roofing work - but I assume the gutter work I had done is representative of all the work they do.

You're probably like me - when you buy something or need work done you research the heck out of it. Whether it's buying a spatula or something big - you're doing the due diligence. It can be overwhelming. I'll say 2 things:

1) For gutter or roofing work - go with a local company. That way if you have issues (especially with something like a leak) contacting them and getting them out to fix it will be easy (and fast).

2) Congrats. Your research led you to J&B. Your research is done. You found the company you're looking for.

Frank and his team did a great job. They were early to arrive and early to leave. They did a good job of cleaning up around the property as well. Everything went smoothly with no surprises. The sales team also did a great job of patiently working with us as we decided how much roofing work we wanted to commit to. We ended up doing a full roof replacement and some attic work. I highly recommend J&B West roofing!

The quality of the workmanship is Excellent. The pricing is Wonderful.
The communication level. Is a 3. We experienced nobody calling us. Being told the job would have been completed way before 2 months. When I was explaining it to the receptionist. And it's all understandable. Once explained properly to us. As a customer. The roofing. HVAC. And gutters are separate jobs. That's Great. But what we were told was it out be a 1 day job. Completed in 1 day. After not hearing from them. We placed a call. The job started in 7 weeks.
It's done now. We are pleased. Customer Service is Not. We were told we would be called for the gutter installation. Before they arrived. They showed up unannounced. Our issue is. We were getting the run around. Because their sales person. In accurately told us things. Then they were. Well.... it does not work that way. We understand. That. Represent what will be accurate for installations. It not that hard to set Clear Expectations with a home owner. Again the workmanship is excellent. Customer Service is Poor.
Now we have the Chimney cover fall off and seems not to have been properly installed? Ordering a new part. And it's raining supposed too. What about water damage to our new roof? First time home owners. And now this??? Wow.

Excellent company. Job was completed in one day and as expected. Care and clean up before and after excellent. Kept us informed through process. Highly recommend.

I had the best experience with Frank [the foreman] and his crew!!! Frank was professional, friendly, informative, and explained everything thoroughly. He texted me so I had his number should I have any questions, and he was very responsive when I did text him. Everyone showed up on time, got right to work, and knocked out my roof/shed replacement SO fast! They're definitely HARD workers! I truly appreciate their efforts and THEM!

I thought J & B West Roofing did a great job, they covered everything around the outside of the house with tarps and proceeded to lay down the roof, and it looked great when they were done. They cleaned up everything, great job. They also did my seamless gutters, and man did they do a good job there too, I'm very impressed, I would highly recommend them to anyone. My thought is you get what you pay for and I think I got my money's worth that's for sure.

If you would have asked me 4 yrs ago I would have given them 5 stars. I had amazing service with them when they did my roof. I had some storm damage 3 months ago (July 2024) to my roof, gutters, siding and railing. I immediately called them because of how pleased I was with their work.
Well this time around I feel as though I have gotten the run around. I understand insurance work is different and takes time but 3 months is pushing it. I have had very poor communication from almost the beginning. I even switched reps hoping that would help. It started to, but once again communication was horrible. I paid half of the balance a week ago and requested information about the insurance notification and establishing a start date, especially since the weather has become cooler. I have sent multiple emails and have not heard back since I made a payment. Not to mention I had to threaten to take my business elsewhere to get response to set up for a payment. Now that they have half the payment once again I have had not heard from them about a start date.

Update: It took from mid July to late December to get my work done. The roofers and the guy that did my railings were amazing. They got the work done and were very professional and did great work. Also, the lady that handled the scheduling was very polite and professional.

However, the siding crew left nails on the driveway. They place items on top of my Christmas inflatables and broke at least one of the ground stakes for them. They moved items and did not put them back.

The gutter people had to come out to do the second half of the job. They too moved items and did not put items back in their place. When they came out the second time they were supposed to clean the glue off of my house that they left the first time. Needles to say it is still there.

Then the topping to this whole mess, is their lack of communication not only with me but my insurance company. Now, the claim has been closed and I owe thousands of dollars to this company.

I wish I could say better things about this company, as they were amazing in 2021. I often do not expect compensation for things errors, but this has been completely unacceptable. After I made the fist half of this post I was immediately contacted by a manager that promised some compensation that I have not received.
Now that the insurance company closed the claim, I am upset enough to drop the company from a 3 star to a 2 star. If this was my first experience with them I would give them 1. I could not be more disappointed.

UPDATE 2: 4/23/25
Someone in the company erroressly put my job as a self-pay job instead of an insurance claim. They worked with the insurance company the entire time; from the initial evaluation to finalizing the unexpected repairs. My insurance requires a complete breakdown of labor and parts. They are refusing to supply my insurance company with this information. They claim that they do not provide this information. This has been a nonstop fight from beginning until now. I have had to contact the BBB and am looking for a lawyer to talk to. This whole situation has caused extensive stress and anxiety. I will shout from the rooftop to NEVER use this company.

Update: I was so happy with the work they did in 2023 on my roof and skylight that when I needed new siding and gutters, they were my first choice. Again I have not been disappointed. Both Charlie Hopper and Dan "Boone" along with the entire siding crew and the crew that installed the gutters were wonderful. I would recommend them every time.

I was very happy with the work they did on my roof and skylight from the initial meeting with Chris to the final walkthrough with Brian. I would recommend J.B.West to anyone.

My uncle referred us to J & B West after they replaced his roof and did a great job. They beat all other quotes we had and were very responsive when contacted about a quote. We were surprised how fast they got the supplies and were able to replace our roof within a few weeks. We loved that they were in and out in less than a day and did a great job cleaning up afterwards. We love how our new roof looks and that we won’t have to worry about our roof for years.

This is the 2nd complete roof I've had done. A rental house and my own home. Timely response back to get my quote, and on the schedule. Answered my questions through the process and showed me pictures of any suspect areas. Thorough with cleaning up after work was complete. Highly recommend J&B West. Now 2025 a 3rd roofing job completed. Can't go wrong with this Company.
