Hughes Lumber - Dewey, OK

Sad to see what this store has become. It used to be a great local lumberyard, but you can tell it’s very poorly run these days. Prices are higher than most of the competitors, and it does not have the same customer-friendly feel that it used to. They seem to be more interested in repainting the store than they do in keeping employees and customers happy. Every time I come in there, another long-time employee has left for greener pastures. I can’t say I blame them. It’s clear this is an issue of management. The new employees, heck actually all of the employees, are doing just fine. But when you have poor leadership, you are set up to fail. Several years ago, Hughes had a manager that was very helpful and simply knew what he was doing. These days? I’ve been in the store when the new manager is on vacation or a business trip, whatever you want to call it, and honestly the employees seem to do better when he is gone. He is like a dark cloud hanging over their heads. Sad really. I’m not sure if the other Hughes locations are having the same problem but I really feel for the people who have been working and shopping at this store for decades. Another victim of bad management

Great store with great people all around. I want to give the gentleman Dillon Hiemstra a big shout for his kind service while at the store. A true all-rounder!

Hughes Lumber has been around a little bit longer than me, about 90% of my home - in which my grandfather Robert Cole (retired from PSO Bartlesville, Ok), my Aunt Sharon and my father Paul was built in 1980 from materials from Hughes. Friendly customer service, knowledgeable staff, and more importantly a local, "home town" general hardware store. For this review I have to give them a five star. ☺️
