Hawthorne Construction did a terrible job on our HOA reroofing project. They violated building codes by covering attic vents, causing moisture and mold issues in multiple units. Their so-called “fix” was fraudulent, reconnecting vents to nowhere just to look repaired. The project was unsafe (a worker fell off a multi-story roof), dragged on longer than promised, and left debris all over the property. Their work created health risks, property damage, and major headaches. Avoid this company.

Hawthorne General Construction solved a very difficult problem in reconstructing the underpinnings of our roof. They worked on it in an efficient, practical and timely way before reroofing the church. They were considerate of our budget as well and saw to every detail to keep the church looking beautiful and being safe from water runoff on the decks. I highly recommend them.

Hello, Adam from Hawthorne recently completed a large roof project for an organization I belong to. This has been planned for years, and had many versions as we talked to architects, engineers, and contractors. Then we found Adam and he came in and simplified the project big time. He started when he said he would, finished on time and on budget, and was very accommodating of the organizations needs. Highly reccomend!!

We hired Adam & his crew to replace our backyard fence in North Portland this last spring, and they did an amazing job! Adam was incredibly communicative throughout the entire process, listening to all of our priorities & concerns. His team worked efficiently and left our space super tidy! We would hire Adam and his team in the future for any of our home projects, without hesitation!

We asked Adam to inspect our roof for possible leakage, and he did a thorough inspection both interior and exterior. He also provided a full and detailed report that we could use following up with the shingle manufacturer.

Hawthorne completed a large roofing job of 11 buildings for our HOA, EVERYTHING met and surpassed our expectations. Adam was hands on and attentive every step of the way. His crew was respectful of all owners and properties and the workmanship has proven to be high quality.
Follow up after completion has been amazing with attention to detail in a very timely manner, most of the time within 24 hours.

*EDIT IN RESPONSE TO OWNER’S RESPONSE TO MY REVIEW * owner lied in his response. They did not proactively enter all units. They broke building code during the project with vents which resulted in black mold in multiple units. Adam, you need to have all mold professionally removed (not by your young workers who don’t know what they’re doing), and bring all of our units up to code. The reason other companies had higher quotes is because they are more knowledgeable and HOA insurance for construction companies is expensive…. Hopefully you have it

Unprofessional and unsafe company. They did a huge re-roofing for our HOA. The guy leading the project lived in our HOA and moved out as soon as it was finished. One of the workers fell from a 2nd or 3rd story roof during the project. They were messy and didn’t clean up all their debris. Myself and others got punctured tires. Months later a few of us found that our bathroom vents were detached from the roof and we didn’t notice until mold developed in our attics. When Hawthorne sent workers to reattach the vents, the workers were not wearing any protection at all while being exposed to mold and insulation all day.

We had a wonderful experience with Adam Cornett and the Hawthorne Construction Team for our recent roof replacement. From start to finish, they were professional and efficient. The tear-down and installation were completed in a short timeframe, and we were so impressed with how thoroughly they cleaned up afterwards. The team was also very pleasant to deal with, and we felt their pricing was very reasonable. We had a great experience with Hawthorne General Construction. We made an appointment for a roof inspection as we are preparing to sell. They got us on the calendar quickly, they were on time to our inspection, and they found some issues we did expect after an incredibly windy storm, and also some issues we weren’t expecting. They came prepared with new shingles to touch up some spots and caulk to fill in some nail holes.
I feel 100% certain we will pass our inspection when we list the property. They even went above and beyond to check our attic for any signs of moisture and their prices are so reasonable!

I highly recommend this company if you need any roof repair or replacement!

Avoid This Construction Company

I strongly recommend avoiding this construction company for any projects. My experience with them during their work on my townhouse complex has been nothing short of disastrous. Here are the key issues we’ve faced:

1. Debris and Cleanup

The company’s housekeeping practices are unacceptable. During their work, they’ve repeatedly dropped debris—roofing panels, vents, and most concerningly, nails—onto our driveways, decks, and yards. These nails have punctured several tires, forcing some residents to replace entire sets. The debris on decks and around living spaces poses significant safety hazards to both people and pets, not only during work hours but also after hours.

2. Unreasonable Delays

The project was initially scheduled to run from July 15 to August 22 but is still ongoing as of December 5. After a full crew worked at the start, they’ve dwindled to a skeleton crew focused on painting gutters for over a month. Delays like this are frustrating enough, but the workers regularly park in fire lanes, block roadways, and leave tools and materials in inappropriate places like driveways and dog-walking areas. Trash from their work and personal items is left scattered, adding to the mess.

3. Unacceptable Safety Practices

Safety has been a persistent issue throughout this project. One worker was hospitalized after a fall—unsurprising given the lack of proper tie-offs I’ve observed. During a lightning storm, workers continued operating with a large metal mast extended. When the GM finally tried to intervene, he shouted for the workers to get down, but a significant language barrier meant they didn’t understand him, leading to confusion and increased danger.

4. Poor Workmanship

The quality of their work has been abysmal. Gutters are misaligned with downspouts and inconsistently painted, often mismatching the buildings or even each other. They rerouted downspouts arbitrarily without informing residents. Their roofing and painting efforts show a lack of care and precision. Worse, during rainy periods, they frequently failed to tarp buildings on time, causing likely water damage in several units (though I was fortunate not to be affected).

5. Unprofessional Leadership and Communication

The GM of this project does not speak Spanish, while most of the crew does not speak English. This language barrier has created significant issues, particularly in emergencies like the storm incident. Additionally, it seems the GM’s personal investment in the project has waned—he used to live in this complex but has since moved out. This lack of care may explain why the crew hasn’t been held to a standard that someone living here would tolerate.

6. Questionable Representation

To make matters worse, the company’s website prominently features images from this project. It’s baffling that they would use a poorly managed and executed project to showcase their work.

Overall, this company has demonstrated a shocking lack of professionalism, safety, and quality. I cannot recommend them for any project and urge others to proceed with caution if considering their services.

Hawthorne General Construction is a standout in our community for their professionalism and high-quality work. Their reputation speaks volumes, and I’ve been so impressed by the attention to detail and craftsmanship I’ve seen in their roofing projects. This is a review not of the finished product ( they are taking forever to finish it though) but of the workers general cleanliness. At the moment they are doing the roofs in a neighborhood of townhouses on 50th Way in Hillsboro. Since they've started work there is garbage (pop cans, bags of garbage, stuff hanging from tree branches) behind the townhouses and bags of garbage near the parking area. On top of that they are extremely slow.The workers also don't ask the homeowners beforehand if they can plug in their equipment to the townhouse's electrical outlets either. The finished project might turn out just fine but until that point we aren't very happy about anything else.

I had a wonderful experience with Hawthorne General Construction. They are very professional and absolutely great at costumer service. Communication was always prompt and easy. Company owner Adam makes sure they are running a wholesome, professional and fair business. They offer rates that are NOT inflated and they care about their workers as well as their clients. That was important to me because not only do I want to know that I'm getting a great service for a fair price, but also that the workers who are on MY ROOF are protected. Unbelievable awesome experience! I called Adam about a roof vent leaking after the big ice storm. He came out in a day and was super helpful. He doesn’t work on cedar shake roofs but he called an associate of his to help me. He came out within 2 hours!!!! Did a great job at a really fair price. I couldn’t be happier!

Nicholas came and checked out some issues we’ve been having with our roof. He spent a lot of time with us, did thorough testing, and explained everything in a way that was really easy to understand. He even came inside and helped us assess a few ceiling cracks to make sure they weren’t moisture-related. Great experience— highly recommended!

We had a leak, a suspicious area and a flapping vent cap. Adam came out the same day I called. He shared photos and explained the issues, and immediately caulked the affected areas, plus cleaned off a spot on our gutter that wasn’t draining properly. Much to my surprise, he offered this service gratis, and even recommended another roofer that might have our outdated roof tiles in stock for future work. Highly recommend.

Adam was extremely helpful and knowledable and able to help me with my issues from multiple angles (both the roof and gutters had issues). He was also willing to recommend services from a different contractor because he felt that was a better solution for me, which is always a good sign.

Adam Cornett with Hawthorne GC came to my house to check out a solar tube that seemed to be leaking. I was super impressed with his approach to his work, his knowledgeability, and his willingness to help me out. To top it all off, he did this as a courtesy, free of charge, while he was in my area on another job. I really appreciate his help, and will definitely be calling him the next time I need any kind of work done on my roof.

Adam your staff who came to my house was very, very professional. Adam was helpful and honest with me by explaining what want wrong in a particular spot on roof. I will recommend the company especially Adam to anyone who needs help on their house roof. I was so excited that my house that dropping water was fixed my Adam.

This company was easy to deal with and did quality work! I would recommend them to my friends, and would hire them again if I needed to. Reasonable cost, too.

Hawthorn construction gets an A+ from us! They put a new roof on our outside kitchen/hot tub building and did an awesome job. They knew we were on a time crunch so they worked us in their busy schedule that Saturday. They were efficient, fast, and VERY reasonably priced. Adam had his crew out by 7:30 am and the job was complete, and all the old roofing debris and mess hauled off by 12:30.

Adam went above and beyond, as he also agreed to haul off another large heavy item and take it to the dump for a small fee.

Adam and his team are experienced contractors and excellent communicators. So often contractors struggle to explain a problem and reasonable options to fix it. Adam clearly stated what was wrong, whether it was worth fixing, and what it would take to get the job done. He recommended I wait a few years to solve the issue I was worried about. I often feel confused with contractor conversations, but with Adam I felt totally clear and took his recommendation.

Had Adam out to do an inspection and quote for the siding of my house. I had a couple areas of concern but also wanted an overall idea of how my siding was doing – fine/ok, has issues, needs immediate replacement. Adam was on time (actually early), knowledgeable, efficient, and most importantly did not try to oversell or upsell me. It felt like he gave a true honest opinion, which in my case, meant no work was needed just a couple areas for handyman-type improvements. What a refreshing experience in today’s world. And he was very responsive to emails which I find also unusual in the construction industry but emails are so much easier for me to use as a communication tool with my own hectic daily schedule. If I have concerns in the future Hawthorne GC will definitely be on my contact list!

I meant to add my review awhile back but got delayed for some reason unknown to me. I can’t speak highly enough about Hawthorne Construction. The go the extra mile and you can feel confident knowing that if there’s a problem (which there won’t be) that it would be taken care of quickly. Was so impressed with this company. Took the time to walk through the pros and cons of different shingles. They sent the most detailed proposal I've seen.

On top of that, they were very responsive throughout the process. They clearly care about their craft and quality of service. Worked quickly and got lots of compliments on the roof after from neighbors. Friend checked out the work after and said they did an excellent job and asked who did the work. Very thorough. I actually had 4 different companies come by to assess my current roof and provide me their opinion on how much time it had left. They were the only company to actually go inside of the attic spaces and look for any signs of possible leakage. They felt my roof had more years on it and recommended some repairs that they noticed which would help improve the life. I gladly went forward with the repairs and their guy Kameron went above and beyond my expectations. This is the kind of service I was looking for and am happy to support. Give them a try. After a few attempts to repair the roof ourselves, water was still leaking into the bathroom vent. I found their ad on craigslist, contacted them & heard back the same day. They came out, discovered where it was coming from very quickly and got right to work repairing it. I am confident it will never leak again! They even helped get the new ceiling fan properly situated & connected to the vent.

I had a leak spring through my ceiling and Adam came out to give me an estimate the next day. He was quick he was on time and very honest. I’ve had other companies come out and tell me that my roof isn’t attached to the house and it’s going to fall in on me. Adam was honest and said that actually it is really common and normal in older houses. They patched up the hole the same day at a very good price and sent me an ebill so I didn’t have to go back out to the property. I would recommend them with 5 big stars ⭐️!

These guys did an awesome job, Not only was the work top notch they were tearing off and roofing the non fire damaged side of the house while my framers were setting trusses and sheeting the burned side of the house. When requested, Adam and team drove immediately to our business from Salem - about 100 miles to cascade locks in critical weather. they contained the leak eoth tarp and fix the entire roof next day. i would be delighted to recomlend the team for any roof work or any other service they provide. I called Adam on a Saturday (just googled roof repair!) after a huge wind storm that destroyed my roof. He sent a crew out within a few short hours, and tarped the roof until Monday when they could replace the very old, tired existing roof. They were very quick to respond with pictures and details of all activity, as this is a rental home, and I live out of state. The new roof looks amazing. The crew were very respectful of my tenants, and did a good job of cleaning everything up when they were all finished. Adam and his team did a fantastic job on our roof. Our home was built in 1997 and had the original roof, so it was an extensive job. The team was professional, timely, and courteous. I did a TON of research and got about twenty bids, and Adam's team was the best value when it came to quality. I would absolutely use them again!

The response time on getting back to me was quick, the install time was within a few weeks, and Adam was very thorough on exactly what and how the roof would be installed.
