This contractor is irresponsible and doesn’t do what he commits to. I would avoid using him at all costs. He was hired to do work at my apartment. Didn’t do the work. And because of that he agreed to repay money of deposit, but he has been unwilling to repay it after many months.

Do not believe fake reviews from people who have only posted once ever. Gregg Home Improvements has been removing all reviews less than 4 stars. (Let's see how long this one stays active.)

I could not have had a worse experience (and I'm still chasing him to get my deposit back)!  To make it worse, he was recommended by a contractor colleague.  I strongly, strongly recommend everyone to stay away!  And as far as I can tell he isn't even licensed in NY.

Things started off well.  He gave me a quick estimate.  He was rather aggressive in his initial follow-up to get a contract signed and to get a 50% deposit delivered fast, well in advance. It might be fair to say he was all over me in an intense way.  I was a bit surprised about that and it made me wonder if using him was a good idea, but he came recommended.

After the deposit was sent, things quickly went downhill.  The start day came and went.  First he was confused about the date.  Then a family member went to the ER, then the family member died; of course I was sympathetic and let that explain some delay.  All along, he said multiple times, the crew would come without him (2 people came for 3 hours without enough material for 1 room and did very poor work, not even completing 1/20th of the total work).  I postponed travel, had a mess in my apartment, missed work, then flew back early because he "promised" to start the next Monday, 2 weeks after the initial start date.

That Monday when he again didn't show up, based on his prior offer, we mutually agreed to cancel the contract.  He agreed he would return the money within a few days.  Multiple commitment dates to return the money have come and gone.  I have followed-up at least 10 times.  My contractor friend has tried to help get the money back as well.  So 3 weeks after the cancel date and 5 weeks after when the job was supposed to be finished, I'm still trying to get my deposit back - a deposit which he promised to return.

My project was delayed over a month; I'm paying significantly more to get the job done; I've lived with a mess; and now, I'm in the process of taking him to court to get my deposit returned.  I've used numerous contractors and not all are perfect but this is the worst experience I have ever had.

I hate to post terrible reviews and I've warned him multiple times that I was going to take action, but enough is enough.  Please save yourself trouble, time and money.

People really don't know what their talking about. Alex Gregg happens to be an awesome man with such a good dedication to his work. His team were on time today and they did not disappoint in giving me the best experience I could ask for. I highly recommend him and I hope people will stop talking alot of false information about this guy. Very good man and I'm very happy. Thank you Alex and good Job Today

Great company for roof replacing and waterproofing in NYC! My loft in the village had a horrible roof, and every estimate I called gave me a outrageous quote and said they couldn't get started until next year.
I called Greg Home Improvements and was immediately connected to the owner Alex who gave me low quote and sent out his two best men Rubel and Abdoul to look at my roof, gave me the best quote and started the next week. They finished the project quickly and were super professional. I recommend them to everyone.

I hired Alex Gregg to do some roofing and waterproofing and concrete work at our house and we were beyond satisfied with the quality of work and approach and customer service from start to finish and we will definitely be contacting him without hesitation for our next project and I have since recommended GHI to a few of my neighbors.

In 2022 I gave Alex and company a 5-star review. This year (2024) we asked them to come back, do some roof / facade repair work he said was urgently needed. Signed a contract, paid 50% deposit, then repeatedly was told he wasn't able to get the necessary equipment, then he went radio-silent. Eventually he and company came back to do the work, but only after my wife and I each gave GHI 1-star reviews. When they did show up, the work was done well and he gave us a modest discount for the delays and hassle. I still recommend them, but be sure to get Alex's phone number and a commitment on when the work will be done.

They were timely and professional, and did a great job repairing our roof. We will definitely call on them again for future roof issues!

Alex and his team came to our office to fix a leaky window frame that no one else wanted to fix. Quick, professional, and very clean work. They are also very responsive, which is hard to find! Definitely would recommend!

Our basement was getting flooded every time it rained. They did a great job waterproofing it, and gave us a 5 year warranty.
They also redid our roof, fixed the water damage from the roof leak and fixed our backyard wall. Everything looks beautiful. We are very happy with the work.

We needed some estimates and work done for a few projects around the house. We called Alex before Covid and were so happy with his customer service and approach that we asked him to come back for another project months later. Alex is super responsive and has great communication skills. He is also punctual and was able to send us a follow up email with details of the job and references (which I felt was very considerate) We hope to keep working with with Greg home improvements on future projects!

Alex is the most professional contractor that I've ever worked with. He showed up on time, explained everything clearly, and did the most in depth exploration of our basement flooding issue that any other contractor did. It was clear that both he and one of his staff members (also a very nice person and very helpful) were looking to learn as much as possible about the issue in order to provide the best strategy to fix the problem.
Our building took a very long time deciding what to do and Alex was patient, responsive, and very easy to work with.
I couldn't recommend working with Alex and his team enough. They are my first choice for any job that my building has to do.

My landlords have had a problem for years with the absentee landlord of the building next to theirs (ours). Rainwater pours from the roof of that next-door building onto the alley between the two buildings and then enters the foundation of our building. Years ago this absentee landlord had removed one of the two roof leaders that are designed to drain rainwater from the roof of his building into the sewer drain below the leader. Even if that leader had been left in place, it would not have worked effectively because the sewer drain below it is clogged and needs to be flushed. As for the other roof leader and sewer drain, that leader is not connected to the roof; is seriously dented; and the sewer drain below it is likewise clogged. My landlords are not on the best of terms with the next-door landlord, but I get along with him fine, so they recently asked me to contact him again on their behalf and find out whether he would be willing at long last to fix this problem. I called this landlord and he okayed my getting a free estimate from a professional contractor regarding the cost of replacing the two roof leaders. I had already worked with a certain company which I knew to be excellent with regard to sewer drain flushing, but when I contacted them I found out that they do not install roof leaders. So I did online research for a company that installs roof leaders and thus encountered Gregg Home Improvement N.Y.C. They are highly rated and, as I discovered, deservedly so. I called them and immediately reached the owner, Alex Gregg. Alex told me had some time available that very afternoon so I made an appointment with him. He arrived exactly at the appointed time and took measurements and then told me he would email me a proposal concerning the work that needed to be done and the cost of that work. Within a day I received his proposal and it was very impressive in terms of details and clarity. I could tell from meeting Alex and from his proposal that his work would be conscientious and meticulous. I could also tell that the cost was reasonable. Unfortunately however, when I spoke with the next-door landlord and told him about Alex’s proposal, he balked. He did not even want to look at Alex’s proposal because he was convinced that he could use his own construction crew – he is in the business of renovating apartments and buildings – and achieve the same results at a lower cost. Now I have seen the work this crew has done on other projects and their work is mediocre, but I did not even try to argue with this landlord, because I know that his main goal is always to save money rather than achieve the best result.

I had multiple projects done by Gregg Home Improvement & was left completely satisfied. Projects (with warranty!) included roof repair, water-proofing the exterior of my brownstone, drywall/insulation installation, interior/exterior painting, & pointing. Alex is professional & reasonable when discussing both the tasks & cost. He walked me through, step by step, the intricacies of the project(s) to simplify its understanding. Home ownership in Brooklyn does come with its challenges & I’m glad I chose Alex & his team for those challenges I faced.
